I, as with many other "reviewers", thought I did my homework before I bought this printer...what a huge mistake! I paid $300.00 at Office Max and thought it was such a good deal for all of the features the HP 3210 had to offer. After the first one I brought home went totally crazy with error messages and never worked at all, I allowed myself to be talked into replacing it with the same unit...Dumb! It worked okay with just a few "Out of Paper" messages but as soon as the 30 days was up and I couldn't return it to the store, the 3210 went from bad to worse and now three months in, I can't print at all! Tech support is a total nightmare, they're very polite, but I spent three hours on the phone performing all kinds of crazy irrelevant tests on the thing, only to be told it was a hardware problem and that department was experiencing so much call volumn that they would have to call me back...that has yet to happen and I can't go thru another HP tech phone marathon to get nowhere again. We have decided to box this junk up and hold onto it until the extended warranty I purchased kicks in thru the store and I can then exchange it for something THAT ACTUALLY WORKS! Do not purchase this printer!!!

Two of six 5740 printers have had to be replaced because they failed to feed paper properly. The usage is very low, but the environment is very dirty, so that might contribute to the problem. I have good success with many different HP printer models, but would not recommend this printer.

I just purchased this printer last night at BestBuy and took it home. When I removed the contents of the box, I noticed that the USB cord was not in there. I read the directions and said that you had to buy the cord separately. I couldn't believe it. So, I went to the store and bought one. This cost me an additional $11. I went home, installed the software and plugged everything in. I printed off a few things and it looked great. Today, I went to use the printer again and the power woudn't turn on! I disconnected then reconnected everything and still no power! I tried several more things and still couldn't turn the power on. Now I have to return it to BestBuy. This was the first and last time I will ever buy anything from HP!!!

i have this printer for 6 months now without problem, though it already costed me a number of ink cardridges. i calculated it only makes about 50 print-outs per inkcardridge and i do not understand why it does so. website says it should print about 250- 450 for thr 9m, or 10ml ink cardridge.and i use it in fastdraft format which should save ink, not waste it. HP tech support suggested the ink cardridge was faulty, but how many faulty ink cardridges?i' m still trying to figure out what is wrong with it, or what i do wrong to make it waste the ink. with the cardridges i bought up to now, i could buy another cheaper printer and be also more economical.

We bought a 3210 on Dec 31, 2005, after doing a fair bit of research. I've always liked HP printers. Unfortunately, this paper feed (roller) problem was not in these reviews yet. After a month (and probably not more than 50-60 pages printed), we got the dreaded "load paper" error when there was plenty of paper in the tray. For a while you just had to hit the OK button on the printer and it would procede, but then it got worse and after a while it simply would not print (paper would not feed).After spending many hours on the phone with HP (they told me they were unaware of any problems such as this), they suggested I exchange at the store I bought it. I did. After about 2 weeks (maybe 20 pages printed), it started again - "load paper".Talked to HP again and they admitted there was a pickup roller problem on some of their printers (and not specifically the 3210). They told me I should exchange it with another store because maybe the store I had got my first and second printers from were part of a bad batch.After getting the runaround from the store, I just got a refund and I'm currently looking at Canons and Epsons.

Extremely easy to install the software. CDs are included to install on both a PC and Mac. We love having a scanner and copier as well as a printer. Very satisfied with all functions. Have not tried the photo printer yet but expect great results. Our daughter has a matching unit and is very satisfied as well.

Scanning and printing photos is much lower quality than I expected for the price and features of the machine. Document printing is quick, however it takes 30 seconds to calibrate your first page, which knocks the 32 ppm down to 16 ppm or so.

Great printer I'd recommend it. I replaced a USB Scanner and an HP 6840 with this HP 3210 2 months ago, and I'm extremely satisfied. The speed is amazing, its faster than lasers that cost 10 times as much. The photo quality is very good, boarderless prints from the built-in 4x6 tray are flawless. As a Linux user I was very happy to find out that the product is fully supported by the HPLIP project, if the HPLIP project isn't for you it works fine with the old school HPDJ 990C driver as well. The Scanner is accessible over the built-in web server and produces JPG files, making it essentially compatible with any network capable OS. The multi-ink pack Q7964AN is available online and is great to have while you figure out your ink usage patterns. The single color ink carts make it more economical when replacing ink carts, I use to hate replacing the 6840s Ink cart when Red ran out, I still had 30% blue and 50% yellow. I had no problem installing the software and updating it on 3 computers and a wireless laptop in about 30 minutes.The only strange thing I've found is with the ink cartridges. While the cartridges all have the same price, they have different volumes of ink. If you look at the HP 02 Ink carts on HPs web site you'll see that while Light Magenta contains 5.5ml of ink, Magenta contains only 3.5ml, yet same price? Wow, what a great product! This is the best printer I have owned. It scans and copies fast with great image resolution. My photos print like I got them developed at Kodak. Printing is fast. I use the built-in Network feature so all my mac's and pc's can print wirelessly. This is one of HP's better ideas. Too bad they have discontinued it already. I don't know what model that have released to replace this one.

Just bought mine yesterday, set up was quick, easy, no glitches no problems, it was so obvious what to do with it, read on instructions later.HP has done a great job with this printer at a very reasonable price, my first attempts at printing photos were just great,very happy with this printer, I think at any price its hards to beat.Tried scanning and then scanning and printing, all very successful.Only negative I have is that HP does not give you full ink tanks with their printers, its a bit more than a sample, but, ok, the printer is so good, I accept it.Their method of using another cartridge for printing 4 x 6 prints fits neatly on the side and is unseen,yet, works so well when pluged into the printer.A top printer at a great price.

This printer was a great deal when I purchased it, but quickly caused me more trouble than it was worth. It printed great photos, was fairly easy to operate, and I liked it most of the time. However, it frequently did not want to work, caused my computer to lock up, and jammed. Then, after only having it for less than 90 days, it just quit working at all. Though this may be just a bad model, I will never own another HP product again.

This is one of the worst HP products that I have bought in 13 years! It is flimsy, has no output tray and the photo paper feed jams. Even the HP technician told me that, for the money, I should upgrade to the 5100 series - which I did. For $50 more my HP 5180 is conversely the best HP product that I have ever bought -- and an elegant compliment to my new iMac 24".

Being a fond believer in HP products, and a strong believer in doing my research before I buy something, I picked up a 3210 in December 05'. After the first 150 prints the printer stopped picking up the paper and it would say it was out or paper. I had to open the back of the printer and clean off the rollers to get it to work.BUT!!! Then I talked to a local HP Sales representative in the store, and he stated that HP dropped one of their roller manufacturers for this reason. They were manufacturing a roller that would also leak fluid causing the paper pickup to slip. (They are a gray color if you open the back of the printer) HP has a new company that supplies new rollers (Black color) If you end up with a printer and after the first 100-1000 prints you are having this problem, check the color of the rollers. I am guessing they will be gray in color. In any case, if you are having this issue, make sure you call HP and talk to someone that knows of this issue. They will honor this issue, and you will receive a new printer. Not ALL gray rollers have this issue either! The tech department of HP are aware of the flaw. (why else would they drop the manufacturer :))After my new printer, with the black rollers, I am up and running for over 5000 prints already. GO HP!!!!!

Setup this printer with a wireless router and installed the software across a mixed (3 Macs/1PC) network and it was immediately up a running. Accepted printing and scanning from the remote computers. Only problem was trying to print to the lower photo tray from iPhoto on the Macs.After checking out the documentation and online stuff, had to call HP tech support. The tech knew exactly what I was talking about and acknowledged that the info is not in the manual. But he walked me through the process and, as we spoke, sent me an email with directions. "Problem" solved.We love this printer.

I bought this printer for a few reasons. First was the print head cartridge combination. I had gotten tired of the innefective print head cleaning of my Espon c-80 (soon to head to the junk pile since I can't get the print head to print reliably anymore) and wanted to avoid that issue alltogether. The second reason I bought it was its footprint, which is great for a small desk (or under the desk in this case). Lastly was price.However, its paperhandling is horrible, and I concur with a few of the other reviewers complaining about the same issue. The ONLY way it will feed paper (standard 24# white) is by my moistening two fingers and gently pressing the paper forward as the printer seeks the next sheet. Frankly, this is NOT an acceptable alternative. While it seems that some reviewers are not having this problem, the machine I have is a lemon in this regard. I would not recommend this printer.

I purchased the 5740 early this year as a replacement to an HP 970Cxi. It was still running great but, my printing needs had increased and I wanted a newer model. At first, I was quite pleased with my purchase. I had used it for both b/w and color prints with no problems and then one day it just stopped printing in color. I naturally replaced the color cartridge thinking it had run out. Nope, that wasn't the problem. I went through all the maintenance procedures they recommend...still nothing. I did the HP chat and he thought it might be a driver issue. I removed the printer and did a new install and for that day, the printer worked fine. I shut down my computer and when I rebooted the problem was back again. Did the whole removal...from the the registry and everything...and a fresh install. Again, it worked fine for the day and then died again. Nothing had changed on my computer...no new software or hardware. Spoke to HP again and he decided the unit was defective and suggested a replacement. I agreed. Sent back the unit, received the refurbished one and once again removed the drivers, etc and reinstalled. Bingo, this one doesn't work either. Removed the 5740 and hooked up the old HP and installed its drivers. No problems. I tried the 5740 on another computer with XP and similiar problems ensued. I've decided it's not my computer...it's the printer. Another reviewer stated the drivers weren't compatible with XP. I'd have to say that I agree.

This printer was a giant mistake by HP, when it says I am out of paper, sometimes it is and sometimes it isnt, who knows, HP does'nt.For a machine at this price range, it is pure garbage, it gouges the thinest glossy 4 x 6 I can find, I,ve even seen it gouge plane paper. It probably is not properly set, or maybe thats the best they can do.Using this thing is so ponderous, reading the instruction book is ridiculous, what it says it can do, it can,t.The software is horrible, (ok we all know that) dont even attempt to use this.For some time had an in HP 1610 all in one, I just ran it to death,it gave me thousands and thousands of beautiful prints.The ink situation is a joke, you buy their non black for about seven buck, they contain just 7 ml of ink, if you dare to print like 1 dozen 8 1/2 x 11 color prints in Best resolution, it will bankrupt you,Never again HP, never again, tomorrow monrning its Epson or Cannon, I,ll take the loss, no use calling HP again, waste of time, I think they know how bad this thing is.Very angry former HP customer

I LOVE THIS PRINTER. i just haven't gotten the hang of the stupid hp software that it comes with. i had NO TROUBLE at all installing the printer. however, i also have an old hp laptop. so maybe they work well together. the only "bad" pictures i have printed were when i printed from the hp software that comes with it. to avoid bad pictures, i either print directly from the memory card or print off windows. however, i also haven't tried really hard to figure out how to print good pictures from the hp software. i know its probably in the manuel or something, but i'm just too lazy. i really like that i can print without turning on my computer.the ink for the printer is insanely cheap. i went to a sam's clubs, a wholesale store, and black and all the colored ink was only 54 dollars. i can't say it enough. i love this printer. the only problem is the stupid software.i read a lot of reviews that were slightly negative, but i am really glad that i bought this printer. a big reason i bought it, despite the negative reviews, was because a best buy sales man said that he loved it. he said that it was the best available for the price. besides the software, which might be okay if i invested any time into it, i have no complaints about this printer.

I like the features of the printer. But several things have turned me off. The software install took about 30 minutes. That was a bit longer than expected. It doesn't read memory sticks through the network. Its attempt to determine paper type causes paper type errors with non-standard paper sizes like envelops. FINALLY, the paper does not feed properly over time. When I first got the printer, it fed properly. After about 3 weeks it began to miss sheets and complain that the paper tray was empty. It wasn't. I'd have to push the paper forward beyond the back of the tray to get the sheets to feed. This had to be done a sheet at a time. I finally took the back off and watched the paper feed rollers attempt to feed the paper. The rollers simply slip on the paper in the tray. There doesn't appear to be any paper thickness adjustment to correct this. This problem has been very frustrating to deal with. I recommend not buying the printer. I feel that the positive posts will eventually turn negative after printing a few hundred sheets. I'll never buy another HP consumer product. I've bought HP computers (motherboard failures), printers(paper feed problems) and scanners(software issues) and have various amounts of trouble with them.

So far I have not experienced the problems others have wrote about. I love this printer -- the scans are nice, the print quality is suberb, and the interface is intuitive. Some of my favorite features:*Built in print server allows you to share the printer easily between multiple computers. This is a big plus!*Small screen on the printer allows you to look at photographs, zoom in, and do other various configurations without touching your computer*Built in slots for memory cards used in many camera (Compact Flash, SD, XD, MS) allows you to print straight from your camera to the printer without having to go through your computer

This thing works sometimes, and its cheep. Other then that I don't have much good too say about it. It uses up the ink in the expensive cartridges like water. And is so noisy it sounds like a truck going off road. I've owned quite a few cheep HP ink jet printers, and I've been disappointed by them all. I am going with Epson or paying a little more for a higher model HP. In the print world, you get what you pay for and buying cheep is a bad idea.

I agree the printer looks nice... nice size... easy installation... no problem scanning... until... I had to scan a newspaper article for a client. At 200... I could not read the type... at 300... still could not read the type... at 600 still could not read the type. Finally, I switched to my husband's Epson and got great quality on the first scan. So.. I am now on my way to return the printer/scanner and order an Epson instead.

I purchase a lot of PC's and peripherals for my job.Just over a year ago, I ordered a few of this model.The semi pros:- the black ink cartridge is an enlarged one. Probably a bit short of twice the tri-color capacity.-adequate print quality.- average print speed.The cons:- only lasted 16 months and now shows indicators that it requires a trip to the local HP service center.(We all know what that means. Pitch it and buy another unit).- tri-color cartridge is the small size.Conclusion:I should have stocked up on the older, FULL SIZED cartridge HP printers in the PRO series, like the 895 (I think it was).Still have a few of those going strong.

After a week of use this printer won't feed paper. There's a 2 month back order for a replacement (refurbished units). An unknown source from an HP forum says the paper feed issue is a result of undersized rollers which fail to catch and feed for printing. I also heard the HP 3310 with fax capability uses a larger roller with no issues as the 3210..Be prepared to break out your credit card # in security for the exchange. BTW, it seems HP out sources there tech support overseas. To quote a tech support agent with an Indian accent, "If you don't return printer within 30 days, you'll will be fined!!!" Pure comedy folks......update:An early replacement arrived despite the 60 day back order (prepaid label included to return old unit). It looks brand new to me but I'm betting it's a refurbished unit. Upon removing the back panel I noticed black rollers opposed to the grey paper rollers on the previous unit. I'm not sure what other parts have been replaced but it's apparent to me that this was a hardware issue.good luck,

Driver loaded first time no problem, battery charged quickly, test print came out perfect, test printed a 8.5 x 11 photo, it took about a minute and came out great on the included standard ink. The printer weight is 5.4 lbs with the battery installed it's not light but it's not that bad either. I owned a Canon portable, it lasted 10 months and had to be replaced under warranty, I quickly sold the replacement, they are slow and noisy, they cost way more, the ink cartridges are very tiny and expensive, I had to refill my own to afford to use it, the HP cartridges hold twice as much ink and are cheaper. If you've got money to burn then get the Canon, if not this HP is a deal and you get a battery with it, what good is a mobile printer without a battery?

I bought this to replace an Epson photo printer I had that repeatedly smeared blank ink in the middle of an otherwise perfect print.I've printed over 40 8x10 pages of B&W photos and so far have not had any problems. My old Epson had to be fed photo quality paper individually or it would jam...with the HP I can put 50 pages in at once and print away!While my Epson ink catridges were cheaper, these seem to last much longer. My Epson would also clog after a day or 2 and have to be cleaned frequently. No problems like this yet from the HP.While my Epson printed photos every bit as good as the HP, it was just more costly and much more of a hassle to use

The printer is fast and printing is always properly aligned on the paper. Quality of printed text is as good as any decent desktop printer and that is why I bought it in the first place. I am yet to try printing photos. Because this is a mobile printer the manufacturer needs to ensure that the unit will stand up to the hits and accidents caused by regular transporting. It might mean providing a second skin or a padded bag with the unit

I purchased the 3210XI. It is a great all in one machine. My photos come out gorgeous. Someone mentioned they felt their photos came out low quality, all you need to do is go into the printer setting and you can select the quality of the print you want along with the size and type of paper. Set it to "best" on the quality level for photos and they look fab. The software installion was so simple. I know men like to try and hook things up without reading directions first : ) but if you take the time to follow them step by step you will have no problems and get great prints.

I have this unit on my ethernet network, and I am able to print and scan from my Powerbook G4 (Mac OS 10.4.4). But the results are unacceptably bad:Printing: Printing black text with a colored background results in extremely dark and fuzzy text, almost as if the ink is bleeding. This happens whether I print a PDF or Word document.Exact same PDF, printed from a Windows XP machine, looks perfect. So the hardware is OK, but the Mac HP sofware is giving the printer bad instructions.Scanning: Scanning at resolutions above 300dpi results in a "stair step" effect, as if the data stream got out of sync. Several calls to HP finally resulted in the suggestion to set the "Dust and Scratch Removal" scanning setting to "Medium". This eliminates the "stair step" effect, but the resulting image looks as if it was smeared and there are weird smudges.Again, scanning from the Windows machine works fine.So, if you have a Mac, I would stay away from this unit.

I had an HP Printer that held up for 4 years of undergrad and one of law school before I decided to replace it (worked fine, just was a bit slow). Since I had such good luck with my last HP (5 years of printing) I thought I would get this model. I have been consistantly disappointed with it ever since. It constantly reports that it is out of paper when it is not, routinely pulls in 2 sheets at a time, reports paper jams when there is no paper in it, and has lately taken to saying that the ink cartridge can't move, which also isn't true since just turning the thing off and on fixes that problem. Whatever you do, don't buy this printer, if possible I would give it 0 stars.

I had this computer for one day and when it worked, it was slow and noisy. I took it on a trip and it occupied most of the desk I used for my laptop. How anyone could call this a "portable" is beyond me. What a waste of money! Then, after a week of use, I plugged it into the USB port and, WHAM! It killed my computer for two hours! When the computer started running again, guess what--no USB Ports! I got on tech support and confirmed that the printer fried my USB ports. If you really feel you have to have this printer, WARNING: Get the PCMCIA card with USB and Printer Power Port. You won't get your USB ports zapped dead! Let the buyer beware! My next portable will be a Canon.

I've had the 940c for a couple of years and use it at my work. I print 20 to 30 documents a day, mostly b&w but some color also.Overall this is a good printer and does its job nicely. What this printer lacks in features it makes up for in ease of use and consistency. Rarely have I ever had a paper jam but when I have it's easy to resolve.

I owned an HP printer before this one and loved it--until after about 1 1/2 yrs.and it began to have its own set of problems. I cannot begin to convey how much I dislike this printer, which had all the features that I really wanted. It sounds like most of you have been luckier than I have, because right off the bat mine had a paper jam. I never, I mean Never, print even one page without pressing the O.K. button once, twice or even three times. I always have the paper tray full, so until I read all the customer reviews, I thought I must be doing something wrong. It is very slow, loud, and even vibrates at times. My printer is truly a piece of junk - would throw it in the trash except that I plan to get my money back. Wish I could have something positive to say.

Maybe it's just my particular one, but this thing (which I got for free with my new Powerbook) is THE worst printer I've ever used. The function of a printer is to turn on and print. This works maybe 20% of the time. EVERY SINGLE PAGE causes a paper jam on standard office supply paper--yes, that means for a five page document I spend a good 10 minutes worth of digging shreds of paper out from the inside of the machine. Or there are the times when it just won't turn on--it makes lots of lovely mechanical noises and sounds like it's breaking, then shuts itself off. Or the times when I send a print job and absolutely nothing happens at all.I'm a broke college student and now I'm going to have to buy another printer--but definitely not an HP. Never again.I don't know what on earth is wrong with my printer, but I will never trust this "passthrough" paper tray design again. I used to have HPs, a few years back, and they seemed like decent machines--but after this, I'm going straight back to my Canons, which feed the paper in through the top and out through the bottom. I can't imagine anyone designing a printer which simply DOESNT PRINT, but I seem to have come across one..

We bought this printer because our old printer wasn't compatible with our new Mac. I insisted that we buy an HP because our old HP printer was so reliable. This printer, however, drives me batty. It gets frequent paper jams, and I cannot get it to print envelopes straight. Currently, it is printing black print in varying shades of brown, despite the fact that I just replaced the black ink cartridge. Most infuriating, however, is its tendency to just stop working midway through a print job. This happens about 30% of the time. It will simply stop, and I have to go into the printer box on the computer to restart it. It is a huge waste of time and paper (it spits out the half-printed page when you restart it and starts that page over), and just plain irritating. I think maybe I'll check out the other brands when I finally lose it and pitch this one through the window.

I love this printer. We also have the printer feed problem, from a Malaysia unit (MYxxxxxxxx).HP offered (almost immediately) to ship a replacement unit no cost to us. I accepted, and will give it one more try.The unit is that good. It melded immediately w/o headache to our network as a free-standing device for all our pc's downstairs and prints/scans etc. beautifully. Will update if replacement unit does not fix problem. 5 stars.Also TREO-650 owner, "early adaptors frequently fix problems".Have political problem with HP spending 1BLN to remodel printer line and ink line when 20MLN would buy 3 sattelites over IRAQ to protect from IED day adn night, but oh that's just me.

I purchased this printer to replace my Epson 870 photo printer.Other than the wait to install the huge amount of bundled software, I am satisfied with the printer. My main concern is with the 5 individual ink cartridges. I thought I would like this feature, but at $70 a set, I am beginning to rethink this as a 'valued feature'. Also, after about two months of use printing a variety of text documents and photos, I have gone through 2 YELLOW ink cartridges and haven't even made a dent in the other colors. I find it ironic that I can't find any at the store either. They have all the other colors in stock but are sold out of yellow. How many other people are experiencing this "YELLOW" phenomenon?

I recommend that you pass on this printer. I tried to install the software and kept getting the following error: Setup has encountered a severe error and will exit. I went to the HP support site and followed the instructions there for this error and still got the error. I sent a message to tech support and didn't get an answer. I tried the online support but kept getting disconnected.When I would reboot after trying to install, Windows kept doing a disk check.Save your money or buy the Canon BJC-55.

This is the fastest color printer I've ever used! My husband uses it to run sets of beautiful powerpoint presentations off for his work. I'm an avid scrapbooker and find this to be a huge asset to me, saving me money in almost every avenue (printing pictures, backgrounds, colorful clipart headers, etc). I did run into a glich while installing the software...which another reviewer did mention. However, I was able to fix the problem myself using the troubleshooting section of HP's website with a little patience and diligence (and I'm no "techie"). As with every new bit of software you ever add to your PC, you just have to take a breath and hope for the best. Gliches in installation just aren't enough to slam the actual machine - which runs like a champ and prints with great clarity.

First one packed up after 10 days, during the routine maintenance which seems to trigger every few pages of printing, so got a replacement from the store.Now I am stuck with the second one which always fails to feed the paper. Should have read those reviews before...
