As a computer technician and troubleshooter I have plenty of experience in fixing faulty printers (read replace!) and came a cropper myself when after 5 years use my Canon MP620 decided to give the dreaded 6210 error which meant powering it down before every print job with the resulting loss of ink as it re-initialised and cleaned every time! Well, that's out on the street waiting for someone to rescue it or the garbage man to take. Half and hour into installing my replacement HP 6520, I have printed superb photo's from computer (wirelessly) from iPhone (airprint). Scanned and copied to email and pdf. Utilised the printing to hpeprint.com that allows printing from any device anywhere directly to my printer via a dedicated email address. Tested and smiled inanely as the paper was sucked back in when printing duplex sheets (two sided). Great access to all settings via touch-screen the size of my iPhone, quick start-up and print which was a real bugbear with the Canon. The only thing it doesn't do is print directly to printable CD/DVD's. Well pleased, checked that inks from HP are pretty expensive, but compatibles are out there with good reviews. I'll place further comments if anything changes.l

The wireless printing and scanning worked for a few days until it stopped working and even professional IT engineers couldn't fix this issue.
The ink was over after only a couple of weeks (and we didn;t do much printing at all)
The space for papers is very small therefore I need to keep recharging every few days.
I'm very disappointed.

Very happy with my printer. It was easy to order and delivered quickly. I was able to set it up myself very easily. The quality of printing is excellent and it's wonderful to be able to send things to the printer, which upstairs, without having to take my laptop ups stairs and connect it up. So easy and so efficient. Photographs are lovely too!

Bought 3 months ago. Took ages to set-up with my macbook using air print (had to pay someone to resolve in the end after 20 emails to HP). Since then endless problems with scanning to email, scanning to computer and air printing.

Have had HP printers for a while now and the last two have been all-in-ones. When my last one finally gave up the ghost I thought it may be worth looking at other vendors to see what else was out there. After much musing and researching I found myself back at HP and the 6520 e-All-in-one. My main requirement this time round was the auto duplex feature and printing from my iPad/iPhone/other smartphones - all of which work a treat.

Very easy and quick to set up. Had it connected to my wireless network and printing within about 10 mins of removing all of the packing. The printer also has the Internet printing feature which is a nice to have but not essential.

Print quality is what I have come to expect from HP for both photos and office type documents. The scanner/copier function is also solid and about what you should expect for the price. There is a nice web utility for managing the printer which tells you how your ink is doing and control scanning.

For those with kids there are also a lot of free worksheets, puzzles and colouring sheets from various Disney and other providers to keep them entertained.

I have had my H470 printer for a couple of years, and I travel with it all the time. It is an amazing, durable, trouble-free portable printer. I used to have a Cannon, which was smaller and lighter, but more troublesome. I have a battery for my HP470, and may yet add a bluetooth. I bought a newer HP printer (Officejet 100 Mobile L411BT) with built-in bluetooth because it would have a wireless interface as well as a battery, and would therefore not require me to carry cables when I travel - the printer looked almost identical to my H470, but it was slightly larger, and I thought it would be as reliable and trouble free. Wrong. The L411 printer has been simply terrible - it has to have landscape and portrait modes set MANUALLY before printing - weirdest thing I have ever seen. Plus it crashes frequently. I cannot deal with that in my work, so after two days of fighting the new L411 model, I went back to my H470.The H470 rarely has a paper jam, and when it does it is easily cleared. It is just plain durable - no other way to say it. When you print multiple documents in landscape followed by portrait, the H470 handles them with no problem. It does not seem to use my computer memory (unlike the L411, which seems to depend on the computer memory rather than its own). The H470 has never - and I mean never crashed.If I wanted an improvement, I would like it to have been smaller and lighter - and/or I would like it to have scanning capabilities - but other than that, I cannot say enough good stuff about the H470 for someone who travels and needs a small, HIGHLY RELIABLE printer that you can carry in a case with your computer.

very easyto set up and perfect for the whole family as we have 4 laptops and a dektop between us. Great to work in a preferred room and then remotely send printing work. Has facility to automatically print on both sides of the paper if required. Great to fill the printer with paper and not keep feeding in single sheets.

What a wonderful invention - no more cables or connections needed. The printer connects to my wifi and I can print directly to it. The printer is very nice quality. The out put is great and offers all the features I wanted. Very nice tool.

Got this HP printer and an HP laptop brand new as a "bonus" from work about 18 months ago. It works okay with the laptop's Windows 7 OS, but has three big problems otherwise:1) it cuts off the bottom of a printed page 50% of the time.2) it refuses to print at all 50% of the time until we turn it off/on a few times and send document to print again (with 2 minutes of it making noises and "thinking") until it decides to print, even with brand new ink cartridges installed.3) HP ink cartridges cost about $30 each or $53 for a two pack, and although we don't print even a page a week, the cartridges last about 3 months. Ridiculous!!!!I've used many printers at work and home for 20 years, but never had one that needed so much hand-holding for so little output. It's only used at home, only print a page a week from MS Office and the internet, but it performs unreliably in all cases. I spent an hour trying to print a two page Word document because it continued to cut off the last sentence of the page no matter how many blank lines were added after that last sentence or how many settings were changed. Finally it ran out of color ink... I was disgusted.On the positive side, it does print okay half the time, and it is small compared to other printers, although I don't travel with it. The quality of what does print is fine. We've researched the problems on HP's website, etc... with no luck. 9 months after owning the two devices, the laptop totally blacked out and my husband called HP, who had no solutions. I called back with more persistence and got the help we needed from a knowledgeable HP rep (yes, in India). Now we've owned the printer more than a year and it's outta warranty, so it will cost us $$ to get help from HP. We'll deal with it for now, but if I used it more, I'd get a different printer.

Purchased this printer to replace an existing HP printer which was no longer able to print using black ink. The HP fault diagnostic site provided good instructions and suggested replacing cartridges then cleaning the printhead and power cycling. Did all this to no avail. Priced replacing the print head and can buy a printer for less! Reviewed the current HP printers using HP 364 cartridges ( I have virtually new cartridges salvaged from the old machine) and the 6520 does all I want at a reasonable price. I was a little concerned about some of the reviews on the HP site regarding ease of set up and problems with wireless connectivity some guys have had with the 6520. I had no problems with the printer set up, or software installation on my Windows 7 laptop. Wireless connectivity was an issue when I tried a test print but once I had input the network password on the printer set-up menu was able to print and scan without a problem. Used the machine for a week now printing mostly but also scanning and copying, no issues so far. The jury is out on whether there is a problem with HP printheads or the cheap cartridges I have used at times. Will only purchase genuine HP cartridges for this printer and see what transpires.

It prints well. it prints text very quickly. The printouts generally look good and it doesn't jam at all. These are the good point about the printer.The reason that I really hate this printer is because it feels like asks for a new ink cartridge every few days. about a week ago it asked for a couple of new cartridges. I went out and bought them, and came back and installed them and then it asked for a new black one. (which it didn't before.) Today I went out and got a new black one and installed it and now it is asking for two more different cartridges. (keep in mind that its been sitting idle this whole time. Where did the ink go that you had a week ago?)It has always asked for a lot of ink, but this week has made me mad enough to get online and write a review. I am going to boycott HP until they get their act together.They have these photo printing kits you can get that include all the cartridges and like 100 sheets of photo paper. they are a joke. you can print about 30 pictures before it starts asking for replacement ink. I have stacks of unused photo paper from these kits.run away from this printer. run away from HP.

Brought this printer to replace an existing Epson model. Spent a lot of time looking on the Internet and various printers and reviews. Saw this on a shopping channel more expensive than Amazon. I had a new Windows 8 computer and wanted a new printer that was easy to set up for Wi Fi printing. Within 30 mins of getting the printer out of the box it was all set up for wi fi printing. Also can print from IPad and Nexus 7 tablet. Love the separate tray for photo printing. Not noisy as other printers and the printing is quick. Also extras such as crosswords and recipes which can be sent to you daily. Overall ,very pleased that I picked this printer.

* not easy to configure - although it says easy to do so. (wireless configuration is not well expalined for non-technical people)

not worth that much money to be honest - I had to send it back after much deliberation to wirelessly configure it.

It prints quickly and quietly. It does backed copied superbly with no fuss; the first side prints out - the display says "ink drying" - it feeds back in all by itself and prints the second side.
It is environmentally friendly in that it switches itself off when it is not being used. This means that you have to remember to switch it back on when you want to print something - not a big deal but I am finding it takes a bit of getting used to.
I find that from my netbook it will not print pictures - no idea why; bit irritating but not the end of the world.
All in all I am pleased with it.

First of all, I didn't buy this from Amazon. Bought it from Currys.

The printing is very good quality. Photos look fantastic and bright,
Ink is expensive but there are options on compatible inks.

The scanner works fine but reliability is the issue.

This is the 3rd HP printer I've had which failed within the first 6 months(luckily I kept the receipt this time)

Unfortunately, it has to go back to HP so I'm printerless for at least 10-14 days. Not impressed at all.

Next time, I'll buy a Canon

Probably the worst item I've ever been shafted on buying. The damn thing just does not connect, wirelessly or otherwise, to any of my three different Mac computers, let alone ipads or phones. It just doesn't work.

A completely wasted day, which as a self employed person is unforgivable, trying to get this utter disgrace of a machine to do what it is supposed to. It is full of its own self importance, and tells you how it is not at fault, but five computers and three other printers working perfectly, straight out of the box, tells me that this HP is good at lying and hopeless at doing what it was purchased for. I'm taking it back tomorrow and will buy a Canon.

After a month the printer doesn't work, following one paper jam. White screen, blinking on/off light, not communicating with mac. Tried all the usual things but it has to go back - and I'll be without a printer again until it's replaced.

This is an excellent machine, giving the usual HP high quality text and photo prints. It is easy to use and is the ideal wireless printer, particularly with iPads and tablet computers. I have only given it four stars due to the fact that initial set-up can be slightly tricky, or maybe it's just me that cannot understand the instructions! Overall though, a quality product.

This seems to be everything I need air print so connects to IPAD eprint so can print anywhere. Very easy setup just follow the quick guide. excellent software I can even check my printer status on my android phone using free HP App. Ink is only

Quick & easy to setup, this printer quickly found my wifi and connected without any problems.

Testing a couple of different images, the print qality is excellent, and along with the large amount of memory it has, it takes a lot of pressure of your system when doing large print jobs.

The scanners quick enough for most users and with the nice (large enough) screen, it's a 5 star printer for me!

I have bought HP printers for years now. Was a bit out off by the fact that there are several different coloured ink cartridges. Have already replaced the black with the one that came with the machine, so hope this XL one lasts longer than a couple of weeks, which is why I only gave it 4 stars.

It was very simple to set up and it's so handy being able to print direct from iPads and other laptops in the house.

I love the 2page print option to save paper.

All in all, definitely recommend this

Really well made printer. This model of HP has the advantage of being able to print on both sides of the paper very easily - it does it automatically first printing one side then taking the same page back in and printing the other side without human intervention. I have been using it extensively for the last two weeks.

I thought I got a deal on this printer at $[...], delivered, a few weeks ago. Now it's available for slightly less. Friends, this is a deal. Look at the prices for the top-end photo printers from HP, Epson, or Canon and you'll see that this model is a bargain.I will not attempt to duplicate the many excellent reviews already posted. I will just post a few comments:1. This printer replaces my Deskjet 9650, which also printed up to 13x19. Three gripes:--The Deskjet had a rear-feed slot for straight-through printing of heavy papers or cardstock. The B8550 lacks this feature. It's not something I used often in the Deskjet, but it's something you miss when it's not there.--You could specify a custom page length up to 50" on the Deskjet. On the B8550, it's 44". Question to HP: Why? C'mon, HP, panoramas are pretty popular these days. Why the reduced page length in the printer driver?--No "Banner" selection in the printer driver. If this setting were available, several programs (like Qimage, which I find invaluable) would allow printing panoramas well in excess of the maximum page length in the printer driver.I just got interested in panoramas a month or two ago, which is why I mention the gripes above. In reality, I can probably live with a 13x44 maximum page size. But I'm always puzzled by printer-driver limitations like this.On the upside:1. Haven't printed 13x19 yet (just received the paper), but prints on 8?x11 paper have knocked my socks off...and have elicited comments from others like, "Did you have this professionally printed?" A noticeable step up from the Deskjet 9650, for which I paid $[...] (on special) in 2004.2. HP has done a great job of optimizing their printers for the paper they supply. Don't curse them for this, as I used to do. Just go to your local Wal-Mart and buy the HP Advanced or Premium paper for about $0.50/sheet in 50-packs and use it. You can see the difference.3. This printer is NOT an ink hog. Unlike most other HP printers, the printheads are NOT built into the ink cartridges. Instead, ink from the cartridges is pumped to the printheads...meaning that a good amount of the ink in the starter cartridges supplied with the printer will be used up by the time ink is pumped to the printheads--meaning that you will get "low ink" warnings very soon in your experience with this printer. Take my advice: order a full set of the 564XL cartridges the same day you order the printer.4. The ink is not especially expensive. OEM cartridges are available on Amazon for FAR below retail...and even less than the $12.95 Walgreens charges to refill cartridges.5. To those who complain about no cable being included, I must ask: Is this the first USB printer you have ever bought? Even if it is, every Staples & Wal-Mart on the planet carries the appropriate cable.6. As clearly stated, this printer will print on 13x19 paper. If you open the box and discover that it's much bigger than you expected, you are dangerously unobservant. Read the specs, here and on the excellent HP site.7. Stay around during the software installation for this printer. You actually have to push a button & do a couple of things to complete the installation (test print, etc.)8. I have no idea why a few reviewers report installation problems and/or poor print quality. I was getting great prints 30 minutes after setup & installation.9. A basic test: Using the built-in card slots, print a photo directly from the printer. Print quality okay? If so, open the same photo on your computer and send it to the printer. Print quality NOT okay? Don't blame the printer, please. Color management is screwed up somewhere in your software. GI,GO.10. I was going to end by echoing other reviewers: if you only occasionally print larger than 4x6 and 8x10, you don't need this 13x19 printer...but at less than $150, why not? Go for it.Update, April 2010:1. Still very happy with this printer and the quality prints it produces.2. For photo printing, I have essentially switched over to the HP Advanced Photo Paper recommended for this printer. Packs of 8?x11 and 13x19 are readily available from Amazon at a good price. Note: the HP Advanced glossy paper is very much so. The "satin-matt" would be more appropriate for some subjects or display settings.3. 13x19 prints have exceeded my expectations. One caveat: I do all of my photo printing from Qimage, a printing utility with some very sophisticated interpolation algorithms. When you're printing large, it can make a noticeable difference.4. Other papers: I have started making photo note cards using matte cardstock (coated for inkjet printing) from [...]. I did not know that it was possible to get that level of quality on matte stock. The special size and thickness feeds reliably through the B8550.5. It's a bit quirky to set up a special paper size AND the printer settings which you wish to use for that special paper. I bought this printer after reading all the reviews and am pleased to say it has not been any problem at all, even when using refurbished inks.
Connected by Wi Fi no problem I would certainly say this is a good buy and recommend it to a friend. Keep up the good work HP

Great printer, bought to replace anothe HP which jammed. However when beginning to recover spares found bottle top causing the jam so now have spare printer. Colour phots brilliant quailty but inks not cheap and that is the price to pay for such clear vibrant prints.

Ordered late 28th May, received this morning 3rd June....in Spain! Well packaged, no obvious faults, yet.
Installed and running in 15 mins! No problems with setup thanks to graphics on the printer attached screen, I had tried to put the ink cartridges in upside down! Not everybody is perfect !!
The wi-Fi works well with both our iPads.
Only one complaint, what do we do with all this packaging?

Had many HP's and this is great improvement. Wireless printing and printing back-to-back without having to pull paper out and turn it over - excellent. It's light, and with care the ink cartridges will last and last.

The printer is not small but not huge either, just about right for a medium sized printer. Setting up was simple, however for those not computer literate, the manual is useless in setting up the printer both wired and wirlessly. Ended up installing by just following onsceen instructions and own experiance. Didn't even use the CD software, downloaded the latest drivers from the HP website.

Wireless connection was easy, I just let it connect to my router so it can download updates and is available to all other computers on my network

So far after a few days use, no problems. Will comment later on Ink economics

Arrived in time for Christmas which was perfect as I had bought it for my wife for that occasion. Unwrapped and installed in a couple of very easy steps. We are HP veterans, this is our fifth printer and our fourth HP. We changed from a very early wifi model as it didn't have AirPrint capability, not a problem though as our old one has been recycled through the family and now resides at my fathers house instead. Both use the same ink cartridges so we have commonality.
Prints very quickly from either laptop, pc or I-pad. Scans well also, not tried copy function yet but sure it will also perform faultlessly as well.
Touchscreen needs a firm pressure to work for me, but my wife has not had any issues. Not quite a month old yet so will update if anything crops up
