I love the printer but wasted a lot of glossy photo paper and ink trying to get it to print a good quality photo when it was first set up. I finally was able to get the quality I wanted by changing the paper type even through it did not match the paper type I was using.

I think of myself as a fairly savvy PC user. However, I was amazed when at the end of the install, the install program reported that the H470 does NOT run with my Windows 7 operating system. I figured the install disk was old so I Googled and found the windows 7 drivers. Installed them, reconfigured the printer to use the new drivers - yet the printer did not respond to the test page. So deleted the printer, reinstalled the drivers, reinstalled the printer, and still to no avail.After 2 hours of effort, I finally gave up trying to install this on my current PC and installed the drivers on an old XP laptop. The printer still would not print a test page. How frustrating!It's going back to the store.

The navigation is pretty straightforward. The ink runs out pretty quickly it seems, but it will print for you until its last breath. Takes up a lot of space on the desktop. The functions I've used to far have been nice - I particularly like that I can stick the memory card from my camera straight into the printer and upload pictures.I am severely disappointed with its scanning capabilities. Flat, one-page documents are fine and crisp enough, but you will get nowhere trying to scan and save documents from books, notebooks etc - the light isn't strong enough to catch the words close to the binding. You see crisp, good image and then a large blur, as if someone brushed their arm against the entire left side of my image. I have extremely large textbooks and notebooks for class, and had trouble scanning my notes (so that I could plug a USB into my laptop versus carrying 70 lbs on my shoulders). It was also hard to scan artwork out of sketchbooks, etc.I do appreciate the options they offer in where the scan would go - such as straight into a microsoft document, or powerpoint.

I've got a bit of a love-hate relationship with the H4700. It's a necessity in many cases, and has saved me a few times with last minute print jobs that I overlooked or the ability to print out drafts in a hotel room, conference center, or even airport. However, there a few things that really frustrate me about the printer. The primary of these is that HP should have named this the H4700-ala-carte printer because everything aside from basic functionality requires the use of a dongle (for wireless and blue-tooth, both of which cost nearly fifty dollars each) and if you want to print photos or graphics, you need an additional ink cartridge. Then there are a few functionality issues:1. The blue-tooth connectivity is a bit sporadic, and each time the signal is lost, it takes some messing around to get the print job started back up.2. The loading tray for the paper is a bit prone to jamming, but I suppose nothing worse than most printers with a top loading tray. This of course occurs at the worst possible moments; but that's probably just Murphy's law and not HPs fault.That said, once it is printing, it does a fine job of it. Text looks fantastic with the supplied cartridge, and is indiscernible from text printed on a standard printer. Set up is easy as long as the blue tooth connects, and the printer will churn out its 14 pages per minute without complaint.For a portable printer it's good but not perfect. Make sure you factor in the cost of either a wireless or blue-tooth dongle if you want to use it that way, as well as a print cartridge for photos/graphics if you're planning to print more than text. Even with a few complaints, the usefulness of the printer speaks for itself.4/5 Stars.

I did a lot of research and chose this printer because of high quality ratings and large format. I really wanted to do some fancy photo prints, cool stuff. I am so disappointed. First, photos that look beautiful on my monitor print in disappointingly different color even at best quality. I have tried adjusting the color settings and have not been able to find the right combo for the realistic look of my monitor -- the color prints very off. I feel like I am constantly wrestling with this thing. It seems to have a hard time getting ready to print with all kinds of whirring and shifting about inside. It has eaten an envelope today, and a sheet of business cards yesterday. I really regret not buying something CHEAPER and not expecting so much from it. My expectations were NOT met. I am a long-time HP customer that will be seriously considering other than HP for my next tech purchase

Don't waste your money on this printer. It eats ink very quickly. As soon as one of the cartridges runs out of ink (which seems to happen entirely too often) it won't print anything, even in black ink. This has happened to me too many times... I'm planning to throw it out and get something else. I have never been happy with the quality of pictures is prints either. The first sheet out always has colors that are way off, the second sheet looks better... but who wants to waste all of that ink? Buy something else.

I have owned the B8550 for a little over a year - the good news is that the print quality, price and the wide format quality are excellent. The bad news is that the printer uses the micro-sized 564 printer ink cartridges which have EXTREMELY small ink quantity - if you have visions of printing more than five or six full color brochures using this device, plan to have a BUNCH of extra print cartridges on hand. If you print a single photo quality 8x17 print you'll ding the individual cartridges by as much as 50% (you'll then think "that can't be right", but it IS right).I'd say that the B8550 is okay for a hobbyist/photographer who wants the ability to occasionally print an oversized image or brochure for one-off purposes. Aside from that the unit really doesn't have much of a place in professional office setting.

You can expect this printer to take 40 minutes to print ten 4x6 photographs. It will require you to stand over it the entire time pressing the OK button every 90 seconds. It will claim it is out of ink when it clearly has plenty of HP ink. It will claim the photographic paper is not glossy. After you press OK you wait a minute or two while it grinds away to receive the same set of errors. After five go rounds it will print one picture, and then you start the process over again. This printer insists on only printing on HP paper. It refuses to print on the higher quality Kodak paper. The HP software installs pop-up ads all over your computer.

Im on hold waiting to return it.I bought it on sale,$150,exchanged for a new one after a week,same thing.-jams paper,constant"paper mismatch" alert,sensor is just bad-keeps printing when paper is jammed(sometimes)-means that its spraying inside the printer-forget printing 11x17 or 13x19,it just doesnt get it right,regardless of app that you will use,i use ps cs4,tried wpf viewer,hp software,same thing.it crops or leaves an inch at the end of the print white,it shrinks it somehow.-win7 x64,doesnt find the printer via hp software,it shows it as an available printer but you cant check in levels via pc,not a big deal but it is an issue,after few hours with support the managed to get it to work but now i have minor issues(7 will switch to basic display,from time to time for no reason...)just got an epson 1400-P E R F E C T .

Update:After using this printer for a big project (Calendars) I'm a bit disappointed. The reason is that I was able to print out about 3 11x17 with less then half coverage before the ink totally was empty. First the Yellow, then the cyan, then the magenta and one of the black inks within minutes from each other died. Did they run out so fast because of the paper (67lb cover stock) or was it because the starter inks have less ink in them then what you buy in the store? I've ordered a complete new set of inks (cost about 50 bucks). I'll try it again and see what results I get and post another update.First, this printer is huge. Its not a desktop size. It handles 13x19 size paper which is a mini poster so the size of the printer has to be able to fit it and like I said its a very wide printer. Its very stream line in design and only has a few buttons on the left side along with its 2.4 lcd screen and memory card slots. I love that HP made the 5 ink tanks separating each color instead of the usual multi cartridges. There always seems to be one color that you use more but have to buy a whole new one, so I'm glad they have individual ink tanks this time.The paper tray sticks out a bit so where ever you decide to place it make sure there is plenty of room. Another feature is that you can have multiple size papers in the tray at the same time so your not re loading and removing other sizes. It also prints 1200x1200 dpi which for large photos really makes a difference but on small 4x6 you can't really notice it but it looks great still. Colors and detail were great.It can also be setup to be a wireless bluetooth printer but you have to buy an adapter to have this feature. It might be worth investing in because most people won't have the space to keep this printer on a desk and might have to put it in a different room.The printer is fast and the quality is very good. Its pretty quiet too for its size. I've only done regular size 8.5x11 and 4x6 but will be printing a calendar on 11x17 as I can't find 13x19 at my local office supply store. I'll update the review and let everyone know how it worked.My final thoughts is that while this printer is fantastic for not only day to day prints, photos and posters, its just too big and I really won't print many 13x19 sizes so unless you print a lot of them it might just be too big for normal everyday printers

This unit was a great disappointment. It took several installs and reinstalls to get the software to work - the printer kept mysteriously showing up as "disconnected". Then when I downloaded updates they sent the printer into disconnect yet again. Rather comically HP tech support suggested that I not use the updates as they have a lot of problems with the H470 and related updates. The print quality for a letter on very high quality paper is at best average. One has to constantly check the paper feed as the machine fails to pick up a sheet quite often or inexplicably jams. Machine is expensive and for this money you should get much better quality. I do not recommend this model.

It is almost criminal that you can purchase this printer for $140-150. This is definitely the printer for the home user that wants "beautiful" 13X19 and smaller prints. Pro-sumers may seek more a more feature packed printer for their needs. Home users..."you do not need all of the extra features". Aside from that, the printer "almost" looks like it was designed by Apple. Very nice. One of the other things to make note of is that you can buy the XL inks at Costco in a bulk package for around $65. Enjoy this printer. Once again...it is one of the best deals that I have ever seen in "printing", and technology over the years. [...]***Unfortunately it appears as though HP has discontinued this printer. If you can find one....snatch it! THIS WOULD BE A GREAT ITEM FOR AMAZON TO LICENSE AS AN "AMAZON BASICS" PRODUCT.

I purchased a hp photosmart B8550 printer in December 2009. I also upgraded a computer that I had previously purchased in September 2009 foma a Vista program to Windows 7.So far the printer will not print anything from the internet and Windows 7 is not as good or easy to work with as Vistra.I will survive with the computer but how do I return the printer?I have asked for help from your office, frome the supplier of the printer and from HP, but no one will respond to my requests.Please help!KEN ERICKSONheidi0110@aol.com

My old HP printer (don't remember the model) died but print quality was excellent. It used two cartridges (totaling 5 color + black) and it produced very high quality photo prints. It became time to replace the old HP and being familiar with HP quality and the reviews, I opted for the 8550 since it was positioned as a photo printer and had a large print format. It did not come with the USB cable and instructions hinted it might not be included (add $15) which means you can't test it out upon receipt. But after getting through all that, the moment arrived to print a few photos previously printed on the old HP. WHAT A LET DOWN. I produced two prints from the same photo, both were dark and image quality was appreciably different between both prints. I felt pretty stupid when considering that the 8550 uses only three colors compared to five on the old HP. Bottom line: if you desire a high quality photo printer, the 8550 is really not a good candidate.

While the printer is good as a multipurpose office item, the cost of the cartridges is very high and they don't last long at all. I was spoiled by my laserjet. I won't buy one of these again as HP overcharges for the ink you need to use it. Not a good purchase on my part

This is very user friendly for your average person1. prints 4x6 to 13x19 photos( and other material),has a viewer to help you see pics and correct or enhance etc. without a computer. My only complaint is I can not figure out how to make wallet size, but it is probably user error. 2.The prints are great . We tried w/ plain paper, HP paper and a generic photo paper and ALL looked great. However, the HP paper w/ the HP printer dOES work best and they are DEFINITELY superior photos to the photos labs develop3. Has very intuitive and user friendly software that comes w/it to help you do whatever you want to, prints from iphoto and integrates w/photo shop and iphoto both very easily , make booklets, calendars and more, straight from the printer WITHOUT needing a computer and much more. 4. having two paper trays is the ultimate in convenience !! 5. We were able to print photos that came out great with this while a chain photo lab could not print them with good definition. 6. it is very nice for business, for photos, to create calendars and cards. 7. We have not had it long enough to know what the ink costs are butthe photos have been excellent for us and we are using it a lot, so far no refills needed despite heavy usage. 8. My K class materials print out just as nice as the extremely expensive school printer does.And this prints kids masks and other hard paper projectsas well .I can do it all from home now.I can also print posters , fliers,play programs and all the really neat things kids and parents both love.I am impressed at how good a job it does for a much lower costIt's the best we've had yet and it is great for those who like to be creative. great for those who want to really produce excellent quality creative artistic projects , as well as for everyday business items. We make colourful report cards for our clientele and they LOVE them, now we are making educational brochures , next will be business cards....This is why we are sold, there is just sooooooooo much we can create thatis practical and creative.For the price, compared to other printers, this is a good buy.

As a disclaimer, I'm one of those photo-holics that likes to print everything out and and keep a library of photo albums and scrap books.Oh, and I'm obsessive about top-quality printing.As a result I've been paying top dollar to have my digital prints made at one of the most expensive places in the land, and until now I was very happy with the quality.The last time I got a batch of prints, though, I said to myself, "I got to get a photo printer. They have to be able to do as well if not better than this."I don't take disappointment well.When the opportunity to try out the HP Photosmart B8550 Inkjet Photo Printer, I was primed to jump all over it.Initial reaction when I got it, "Wow, it's big."We have an HP all in one printer that doesn't take up as much surface space.Following the simple instructions-for-dummies, we were able to set the printer up in no time. The only things I was disappointed about not having with the printer is wireless networking and it didn't come with a USB cord.Once we fired the printer up, I printed out a small scale color photo and an 8X10 B/W. I have to say the resolution on each was quite good. Certainly no more bad than the recent disappointment with my expensive photo lab, and honestly, quite a bit better.Now, I know you're wondering, "Yeah, but then you have to get the paper and the ink and how many photos do you get for that?"If you want to compare this to Walmart, Costco, or Walgreen's printing, then it might not feel like much of a deal.However, if you've ever been willing to pay $25 for borderless matte prints of top-quality resolution and get your photo cd with it, then this printer will seem like a dream.Plus, for those think of taking digital photography up as a hobby (as my husband is), it will be completely handy and worth it to have your print lab at home.Overall, I'd recommend this for moderate to serious photo enthusiasts who take the quality of their prints very seriously and perhaps enjoy the sensation of 'control' over the entire photo-producing process.

This printer prints nice quality pictures, but is very noisy. After it is done printing the noise sounds like a paper jam every time. I feel like I am stuck with this noisy printer. I got if for a Christmas present and if I send it for warranty purposes HP will send me a refurbished one. Companies never send back a new one. I really wanted a Canon photo printer but it was not meant for windows xp. I really think HP products are going down hill fast. I really loved my HP 1215 printer but it got too expensive to purchase ink. Canon is the way to go anymore for quality and price.

JUST MY OPINION HI ALL, DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER. I have own mine for about 2 1/2 years; and lately it is not stop paper jams or wrong size. Error messages.It was a once an a while deal, but now I can not count on it. Note I have changed paper stock several times and with only HP paper. I have maybe ran 1500 sheets of paper and maybe 80-100 photos. BUT and I mean BUT a good 1/3 of the paper were paper jam. WHEN this printer works, it works well; BUT TO MANY PAPER JAM. I believe for the amount of paper ran through it; it is not old; just by the age. DO NOT BUY!!!!!! AN FOR YOU HP I WANT A NEW PRINTER!! FOR FREE OR I LEAST I BE WILLING TO PAY FOR SHIPPING. thank you for your time. you no believe me; check the internet for the complaint; it affects this unit as a whole.

After struggling with this printer for the last 2 years, I'm throwing it in the garbage tomorrow morning. It has been the most frustrating printer I've used in my 25 years of dealing with printers. The paper never had fed correctly so you have to practically sit there and feed it manually. There are 5 dinky color cartridges of which at least 1 is constantly out of ink and it won't even let you print in black and white if one of the cartridges is low.There have been so many times that I wanted to smash this thing with a sledge hammer that it isn't even funny. It goes tomorrow!

Company purchased and sent me a new hp h470 printer. Before I was able to print one page of text a message pops up stating the "carriage is stalled." Our IT department could not resolve the issue over the phone so ordered a second device and had it shipped directly to my home. This device fared no better than its brother, for once again right out of the box and before a page could be printed, the same message pops up. The only silver lining in the story is HP's tech support service which, was prompt and helpful. The solution, after 20 minutes of diagnostics, was send me a replacement. Will it be "three's a charm" or "three strikes and you're out," stay tuned.

I just purchased the HP B8550 from Amazon. Basically I wanted a large format photo dedicated printer to avoid the photo labs. I like to have total control over my prints. I had thought about a pigment ink printer..but after reading all the reviews and the expense of replacement pigment inks..decided to go with a tried and true HP This printer was originally going to be a standalone..not hooked up to the computer..as I had read reviews where its software causes problems..baloney! Not true..I have windows vista and I have absolutley no problems with this printer.I also own the HP 8250 and the B8550 its comparable to that in quality but a bit slower..so I am going to dedicate my new one for any prints over 8x11...and for just over $200 I can justify this expense as printing to labs can cost $20 each print in 13X19 format and sometimes there work is honestly not that good! The Hp papers are great..I just ordered the advanced soft matte 13X19 for $45.00 for 25 sheets..so I am a happy camper. Another thing... if you go to HP you can get profiles for many other papers so you can use Epson papers just as easily. I have no experience with a pigment ink printer so not qualified to comment on comparisons..but this is one sweet printer!

I hate this printer, and I will NEVER buy another HP product because of it. A friend bought the first 3210 all-in-one for my birthday because the salesperson told him it's compatible with Macintosh.It worked fine for about 3 weeks, and then it started paper jamming. I mean every piece of paper I tried to print, jammed in it. After a couple of phone calls to customer help, they sent a replacement printer and I mailed this one back to them at their expense. I begged them not to send me another 3210, but they did anyway. After about 3 weeks of usage, guess what? Yes, you guessed right - it has started paper jamming.Here is everything so far that's wrong with this all-in-one -1. The output tray isn't flat, but instead has some levers on it that are totally unnecessary but cannot be removed. When the paper comes out of the printer, it catches on these levers and jams back into the printer. I have never seen such a poorly designed output tray as this. Every page I print that doesn't jam comes out wrinkled because of it.2. The place to remove paper jams is located at the BACK of the printer. So if you have your printer placed on a shelf with a backboard like I do, it is a real pain in the keister to get to the back of the printer to unjam any of the numerous paper jams.3. Do not press the scan button on the all-in-one to scan images! If you do, it will save the default as a huge tiff file (2mb or more) and download it to only God-knows-where in your computer. Save your time, system resources and sanity, and only scan the images through the HP Scan Pro software that comes with the all-in-one. This at least allows you to manually set the size and type of file, and lets you choose where to save the image.4. There is no way to get the scanned output images to default to jpg or gif files even with the Scan Pro software. The default is tiff, so if you upload numerous images to amazon or other websites that only accept jpg's or gif's, then you have to manually set each image to jpg or gif. It makes no sense for HP to make the default a tiff, when so few websites accept this image form.5. It will not print anything off the internet directly. Anytime I try to print a web page, I get a "communication error" message. I have to save the web page to my hard drive and then print the page. I pay a lot of bills online and need to print the receipts. It is absurd that this printer refuses to print these receipts directly from the internet.6. It is not too easy to use the many functions. It comes with a 140 page User Guide. I've read novels shorter than this. I previously used an Epson all-in-one when I used Windows, and I was able to figure everything out with relative ease and without using the User Guide. The HP all-in-one practically requires a degree in technical engineering to figure everything out.I'm sure there are many other faults with this all-in-one, but these are the ones that immediately came to my mind. The HP 3210 is a perfect example of "Caveat Emptor" - let the buyer beware.

Although this product is listed as compatible with Windows, it is not compatible with Windows 7. I have a new HP Windows 7 computer, but this printer will not work with it since they have not yet created a compatible driver. Waste of time, and HP does nothing to make up for that little advertising error, just sends you back to Amazon.

General Thoughts:After looking at a friend's HP F380, I decided to get an all-in one printer, but wanted one that had a better duty cycle, so I ended up buying the C4180. It was a replacement for my HP 3820 USB printer, which had died a couple years back after owning it for barely a year and never printed that good to begin with. This is a much more reliable unit and follows the HP tradition of quality a lot better. Print quality is pretty good, and it can scan/copy without having the computer on. Nice feature when one is in a bit of a hurry - This printer worked really good right from the start. My take on the features and performance is as follows:What's Cool:Very easy to setup and get working.It's fast for a cheaper printer.Useable scanner, if not stellar.Decent copy quality, even in color mode.Nice onboard display - useful for seeing more information, and it shuts itself off to preserve itself.Very easy to setup and use right out of the box.Works like a USB printer SHOULD work - that is to say it's going to work as a UID device with Windows 2000, XP and Vista with no quibbles.Separate photo paper loader is nice plus for a printer of this price range.Has a universal media reader - almost. My camera uses the original Sony memory stick format and it's not supported - only will take memory stick pro or newer (original won't fit into slot).Has standalone functions onboard for scanning, printing and copying that don't require the computer/print server it's connected to be on.Built in calibration - and will automatically calibrate when new ink cartridges are installed - you don't have to calibrate it manually thru the software.What's Lame:Nickel and Dime mentality - included ink cartridges are not fully loaded and you don't get a USB cable.No Ethernet port.Has a tendency to spit printed material out on the floor since there is no paper guard in the paper input/output tray.The software suite takes entirely too long to install and is very obtrusive - and once installed it constantly looks for updates and tends to get in the way on the desktop - which was a bit pompous on HP's part - modules running in the background or system tray should stay there until you call it up.Online registration is a bit annoying too - be careful when registering - and watch which boxes are checked before submitting it - if you don't pay attention you will start getting junkmail and promotions you don't want.Overall:The HP C4180 appears to be a decent performer - HP won back my confidence after the disaster I had with the 3820. Whereas the 3820 pretty much only printed text ok (and smeared everything else), the C4180 prints text and photos pretty well, and is a reasonably fast deskjet printer. I wouldn't recommend it for serious photo printing, but for general purpose use it's a good choice.4 stars for this product - mainly because of the obnoxious functionality in the software suite. Otherwise it's a solid printer and should offer years of general purpose service.

Functionally, this printer works. Print quality is very good.HERE's the issue. There is no way to adjust print quality when using a MAC. I use this same exact printer on both my MAC and my PC. With the PC I've got a bunch of options to adjust to "fast draft", so that I can save money printing. With the MAC drivers HP has included there is no such option. So each time you print, you are using maximum ink!!!!VERY costly to run. Cartridges are expensive and I go through a lot of them. Time to switch printers -- this one just isn't good for MACOcassionaly there are problems printing photos using my PC -- lots of colored lines through the photo. Nothing seems to fix that, but when I print from iPhoto with the MAC, it doesn't happen.So there you go -- works perfectly with MAC, but insanely expensive. Problematic photo printing with Windows XP SP2, but cheaper to operate. Great combination!

Let me start the review by stating that this is a PHOTO PRINTER. I emphasize this because a great photo printer is not necessarily a great everyday document printer. If you don't print a lot of photos or color fliers, but print mostly documents, then this is not the right printer for you. Printing simple documents is noisy, slow, and expensive on a printer like this.However, if you want a lab quality print up to 13" x 19" then the HP B8550 is a masterpiece. The print quality is so remarkable that you literally could fire your photo lab and print all of your photos at home. This printer will quickly pay for itself and save you a lot of money on photo processing.The physical set up of the printer is easy and intuitive. The print cartridge carrier slipped right in place and the print cartridges are color and shape coded to simplify installation. For some odd reason, HP doesn't include a USB printer cable. This doesn't make any sense to me at all because you have to have one to use the printer and they don't cost that much money. Luckily, I had a spare cable or else I wouldn't have been able to use the printer until making another trip to the store! So be sure to get a USB printer cable.I use the printer with an Apple iMac G4 so my review of the software is Mac OSX specific. I haven't tried the Windows software.The Mac OSX software installed with ease and the printer was discovered and ready to print immediately. The software is smart enough to alert the user if an inappropriate paper size is selected - a feature that is greatly appreciated! However, one must still remember to choose the correct paper size and appropriate print tray before printing. Given the cost of paper and ink for a specialty printer like this I can't overemphasize the importance of this. The software won't catch every user error. Check twice and print once!Enjoy!

The HP Officejet H470 is a great travel printer. It travels well, has a high print quality and is economical on its ink usage. My experience has been that the ink cartridges last about three times as long as two other portable printers that I have used (Canon and HP). The vendor was quick with the delivery and the price was excellent.

I purchased this printer 2 years ago to replace a much simpler color printer as I planned to do more photo printing and color documents. The software installation took two tries before everything was installed...and that took a great deal of time. My husband could not install the software onto his laptop at all. He tried twice, but the installation froze and discontinued each time. The machine is quite large and heavy and shakes a great deal when printing so it is essential it be placed on a very supportive and sturdy desk or table. It seemed to operate well and print as expected for a few months, then the paper-feed issue began. It did not matter whether the paper tray was full or nearly empty...but it would not feed the paper and displayed an Out of Paper message. It became necessary to gently push the paper-length guide to encourage the paper to feed into the printer. Eventually it was necessary to do this each time one attempted to print. I went back to the store and the tech people kept the machine and then returned it to HP and gave me a new machine. I once again set-up the machine and it worked for a short time before beginning the paper-feed problem again. It was checked twice with no real resolution so I decided to keep the machine until now when I am upgrading it and leaving the HP family. I have been a fan of the HP printers for years, but lately their quality seems to be suffering from lack of attention. The one thing that is really terrific is the individual ink cartridges that allow you to replace only the color that has been depleted rather than a single color cartridge. We'll see what the new machine brings with it. Perhaps one day I will once again learn to trust the HP printers.

There are so many printers on the market that are doing a solid job, and the Photosmart D7260 is one of them. I have not had a single problem with this unit. The touchscreen is intuitive and sharing this printer over the network couldn't be simpler. It's got support for several different flash cards although I rarely use them.I can only give this unit 4 stars though because these companies should be put in jail for what they charge us for ink. It's a crime.I guess these inks are made out of Gold.

I just received mine. The device is about as light but somewhat bulkier than I had expected. Also, the parts are made of very light weight plastic, so its not nearly as rugged as a laptop. For example, that top panel could be irreparably broken off by an errant elbow. I was able to get a third party bluetooth adapter working in just a few minutes, although I had to install the print drivers from the included DVD. I was fairly pleased that the power adapter is the same model used by HP pavillion laptops - so road warriors only need 1 power adapter for both printer and laptop. Also, the print quality is outstanding. Whether b/w or color, its producing prints that are just as high quality as full size printers.

The Photosmart is not as easy to assemble and use on a daily basis as might appear on the small thumbnail picture. It takes forever to print and I've tried tweaking the printer. When you take a print out of a colored photograph, expect it to be limited because there was a greenish tinge to mine. It doesn't come with a usb cable to attach to your computer so good luck with finding that small accessory. Also HP software takes forever to download..overall this is not a printer meant for an office and even for home use, I think it's quite slow. The compartment for keeping the A4 sheets was slghtly comfortable. The best thing about it is the fact that I didn't need to pay for it and that's not saying a lot. This now rests in the corner of my apartment and collects dust and newspapers. Takes about a minute to start processing a print out.

This printer makes beautiful photos!It's larger than I expected (my fault for not paying attention).The only set-up problem I had was that the printer didn't recognize one of the ink cartridges. I went through the HP troubleshooting help with no success, but when I explained the problem HP immediately sent out a new cartridge and the problem was fixed. I am NOT a computer savvy person, but did all this with no other help.I have not done any regular document printing yet.

I've been really happy with the prints that have come out of this printer. I'm not a pro photographer, but I do like to hang my best work on my walls. I used to order my large prints online, but at $20 a pop I found it easy to justify this purchase. By my math, this printer is only worth it if you are going to print large prints. The 4x6 and 5x7 are just too cheap to print at a kiosk or online, and I didn't feel like I'd ever break even if I just printed those. Though it would still be a lot more convenient.I'm very impressed by the quality of the prints from this printer. Photos printed on this printer hang right next to photos from professional print labs, and I can't tell the difference.The printer was fairly easy to setup. I have Windows Vista (64-bit) which made me worry that there wouldn't be drivers, but I had no problems. I wish the printer was wireless or network capable, so I could hide the monster in a closet somewhere, but for the size prints this is capable of it doesn't take up "that much" space. At least it looks good since it's sitting on my desk.

When I purchased a new computer three years ago, this printer came with it. It is the first all in one (minus a fax machine) that I have ever owned. We use it heavily and have since we got it. With four kids, one of which is in high school and another in middle school, this printer gets used daily. We combat heavy ink usage by printing everything but very important papers and pictures on the economical printing setting. It still prints beautifully on that setting.We have never had a paper jam, it has never locked up, and we have never had ink spillage. My youngest son (who is now four) has climbed up on it many times as if it is a stool, still no issues (not that I recommend that).I love the fact that it is a copier as well as a printer and a scanner. It is so convenient, and should this one break I would purchase this same one as the replacement. The only real downside is that it does not have a separate tray to hold what has been printed. It is not a deal breaker for us.

I am very pleased with this printer. It prints exceptionally good photographs. I would have perferred it in black. I checked back later and it was 20 dollars less a week later. Overall I am pleased with the printer.

This is a very good portable printer and comes in three versions. The printer for all 3 versions is identical, but difference is in the rechargeable battery, the wifi wireless, and bluetooth communicator.There are some negative reviews for this printer stating poor photo print quality or subpar text. But this is due to the user not reading the manual which clearly explains that the supplied cartridges are for general use. If you are going to print photos, then you need to purchase the photo cartridge for superb prints. If you want deep crisp text, then Cartridge #88 does the job. So the negative reviews are not fair to HP or the prospective buyer.This is a great little printer which can go on the road by either powering it through the car adapter or rechargeable battery (not included with the basic model)Also, this printer can print from cellphone pics, and other handheld devices such as PDA (via bluetooth technology). The photo's are clear, crisp sharp imagesand the text prints are also good. Not a bad investment at all, just buy the proper cartridge for the job and you'll be a happy camper. Not a bad choice at all.

I have exactly the same problem as D.P Shroeder. When printing borderless on any size paper with any photo, the printer crops about a quarter of an inch off each edge. Top, bottom and both sides. I have spent the last 3 weeks with HP trying to fix the problem and they have had me running in circles. At various times they have told me it's a printer problem so they sent me a new printer, an Adobe problem so I removed all Adobe software from my machine, my computer fault so I tried 3 others. The latest theory is that it's Windows XP at fault. So right now, I would say if you care about borderless, give this printer a miss.

I can't believe how HP would make a product that functions this poorly. I agree with all the people who have given this printer bad reviews. This printer continues to jam up and I have to hand feed it all the darn time. I had an HP 940c and it was fabulous, so I thought HP was reliable. What a mistake. Hp should really have a recall on these. That would be the only way I would purchase another HP printer. I'll simply put it this way, I would not take a few minutes of my precious time to write this if I wasn't as fed up with the Hp Deskjet 5740

Yes the prints are very good and it is fast... but that's it. This printer will continually jams (read other reviews) and it refuses to print envelopes. Then when it jams the paper you have to go to the back of the machine and open it, pry out the jammed paper and then put the cheaply design door back on. What a hassle. The paper feed tray pulls out forward of the machine which means you can not place this on a work desk without clearing what you have in front of the printer every time you need to put paper in... Who in the heck designed this malformation?
