Let's face it. Hewlitt Packard makes great inkjet printers. Some can give you amazingly true color prints. Others have really high productive printing rates. Others can be set to give you accurate registration for printing on pre-gummed labels. Still others can actually print on card stock without hanging up or jamming. The only question is which printer can do what? HP has written artfully descriptive specifications for every printer they have produced but without ever telling you exactly what you want to know. Mostly by trial and error and purchase of several of the wrong HP printers, I have found one, the 920C, that does a reasonable job registering on pre-gummed labels and also on medium weight card stock. I have two of them. Why ? Because HP stop making the 920C and I can't figure out what the replacement is. This is a good basic printer and I will never get rid of mine.

I started my own business and purchased this item because of my past experiences with HP laser jets. One year later, I'm about to throw it out the window and buy a new printer. Why? First of all, even when printing in black and white, the device uses color ink. Approximately 97% of my printing is black and white, yet the color ink cartridge levels are consistently depleted. As a result, I have to purchase (what a surprise) HP color inks even though I don't ever use them. I estimate that's cost me about $150-200 over the last year. The second reason I despise this machine relates to its annoying warning message pop-up boxes. When ink is running low in any cartridge, a pop-up appears. They cannot be disabled. They appear until the ink cartridge is completely empty. Since the machine depletes color inks at such minute levels, these messages can appear for days (or until you replace it with another expensive HP ink cartridge).Lastly, the machine will not operate if any of the ink cartridges are empty. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to print a simple black and white document but could not because the machine was out of pink or yellow ink.Clearly HP has decided that the best way to make money is through ink sales. If they'd focused more on the customer's ultimate experience, they'd have secured me as a repeat, long-term customer.

I recently purchased this printer to use on domestic and international business trips. Unit has performed flawlessly, with excellent document resolution. Simple to use and travels well, even after I dropped the unit twice going through TSA check points. Only drawback is that it is a little bulky and I had to purchase a new computer bag to carry the printer and lap top on airlplane trips. Well worth the investment, no hesitation to purchase this product. Would also be great printer for students at home or in college.

I have owned this printer for just a short time, but I am satisfied with its performance so far. It has a great sleek and solid look; all of the function keys are up front and accessible, as well as the slots for all of your media cards. I think you save money on ink cartridges because it has 5 separate color wells and 1 black inkwell. It prints at a very good speed and the prints are very good. I previously owned a HP psc 2510 Photosmart All-In-One Printer, which gave me a lot of headaches. I was somewhat leery of buying another HP printer, but I did, and so far I am happy I did.

The only things that has worked harder for me is my Maytag washer. Honest!I have printed perhaps 4oo to 5oo great photos in 8x10 and several hundred 4x6. I printed simple signs that earned more than the coast of the printer, all the ink used and paper. I am on my 3rd case of plane paper, plus heavy weight paper.I have use it with the usb cable and the printer cable. The small photo tray worked well after I surrendered and read and followed the instructions.I have had my P1000 for 5 years or more...I have gone through several PCs, am on my 3rd scanner and have tossed two printers in the dump...one a wide print photo oriendted HP, the other that came "free" with another PC.I considered buying a new one (or two) on Amazon 2 years ago for ?..$75/00 if a member correctly.I have been able to download software that enables we to use it on XP home edition. The HP software worked well for me. Also have been using photoshop 6.I have given away numbeous framed photos to frineds and family printed on it and had the pleasure of seeing people enjoy them.I doesn't give up. There many be better printers. I am still looking and also am holding on to this HP P1000...I also have a Canon i9900 which is working out well enough. And I just might get another P100. I was looking for a good quality mid-level ink-jet all in one and compared many different products: Lexmark, Epson, Canon, and HP. I picked the HP because it offered high, near photo quality printing with good, simple and fairly quick scanning/copying, and in an acceptable size. I really liked the display screen and the full size flatbed scanner (vs. just sheetfeed) although I would have liked both for multiple document scanning/copying. I've printed about 50 pages so far (ranging from simple word documents to full color flyers) and the included starter ink is still showing close to full. Overall great value.

Being able to connect with a 3' usb cable means no extra power cables and their time is spent with the client, instead of running cables to get started. We have been very pleased with our purchase of these printers.

I used to brag about my old HP printer which I owned for 5 years when it went kaput 3 days ago, so naturally I knew I'd buy another HP.In three days since purchasing this one, I have had to uninstall and reinstall the whole software package every time I restarted my computer. Then the printer constantly says its in disconnected state even though it is firmly connected. And when I unplug the USB and re-insert, it crashes my system. Blue screen of death. No other peripherals do this. I have tried multiple cables and multiple ports. The software is terrible if you frequently print envelope or other odd sized documents. It's incredibly fast if you print on the fast draft setting but UNBEARABLY slow on any other setting. When printing an envelope I could literally tell it to print, have a bowl of cereal and catch up on the news before it finished! The scanner and TWAIN software are also nauseatingly slow. Also, when will printer companies learn that the consumer doesn't want/need 11 separate programs to have to be installed with our printers? This piece of trash is going back to Wal-Mart. Luckily It hasn't been run over my Jeep in my drive-way.Thank you :-)

Have been looking for deals on all-in-one printer and after browsing/comparing in a a local shop figured that this printer is the smallest and sleekest (ipod white look/feel) in its category; wonder why no one highlights that in reviews or comparisons with other new printers. Size is important since all other printers hog a lot of desk space that people forget when purchasing printers. Preliminary results of copy and scan were pretty good. The LCD menu is very easy to navigate and so are the big functional keys. Even though the product is not the latest...Overall impressed.

For those of you who rated this printer highly, you are indeed correct for it is a great printer--FOR A FEW WEEKS--that is! Then it becomes nothing but one problem after another--problem with paper-pickup--somewhat noisy--and finally will not print at all due to fact that the printer will not recognize that there is even any paper in the printer! What a mess! It took hours of emailing HP back and forth when they finally gave me a telephone number for DIRECT technical support--for an opportunity to speak directly with someone in tech support who could immediately resolve the problem!!?? After what would tally up to be a total of many hours over a several-day period, I finally reached someone who could understand my English and could truly assist me. However, that too, ran into another hour and a half of time when he finally spoke with his supervisor and discovered that there was a hardware/software problem WITHIN the printer. A manager came on line and after insisting that I provide my credit card information (for security purposes, he said), he (the manager) promised he would have a replacement printer delivered to my home within two days. Of course, that never occurred! After nearly a week of telephoning HP and finally being assigned a Case Manager to handle my printer issue, I was informed that all of the all-in-one printers were out of stock and a replacement would not be available for at least 45 days! After elevating my complaint to another department, the person in that department finally requested that a replacement printer be forwarded to me from a home shopping club. After nearly two weeks of pure frustration, I finally received a replacement printer today. Thus far, I have successfully printed about 10 pages--but after speaking with several salesmen at local electronics and office supply stores, I won't be surprised if this printer, too, stops working. For now the printing is excellent, but everyone has told me I'd better not expect any long-term success from this printer!!

I just bought this printer and came home to install it. I followed the directions step by step. everything started smoothly, and the alignment sheet printed fine. As I began the software installation, I heard a pop. The printer had no lights of any kind. I tried the on button, checked the cables, and even replaced the surge supressor, but the unit would not power up. I went online, read some of the reviews, and found tons of people with the same problem. In the mean time the software had frozen my computer. I promptly returned the printer and purchased the cannon mp600. Hp's used to be so good what happened.P.S. For all the people who complain about printers. No printers come with usb cables, inkjets go through ink quick, you have to read the directions before you do stuff like connect the usb cable. This is standard operating procedure.

This printer is really a great little machine. It prints excellent pictures and even has an insert for the 4x6 photo paper. One plus is the 90 series ink cartridges. For those of you that have complained about buying the hp name brand for your ink cartidges instead of remanufactured keep the following in mind. The 98 cartridge that this machine uses is what HP calls Vivera ink. It is a durable, longer lasting ink, not the generic stuff that they put in the remanufactured cartridges. HP even promises that if you use the 98 and 99 cartridges with the HP Premium Plus paper, your photos will last 105+ years. Check out the machine and hopefully HP will get the needed updates for Windows Vista soon instead of just the generic drivers.

I just purchased and set up this printer several hours ago. Being on a Mac (OS 10.4.7), I found set up occurred easily and quickly. First, I followed the 14-step "Start Here" poster. Once the software was loaded, it transferred from CD and ran through its installation application quickly (about 10 minutes). In my set-up, the C4180 is connected by USB cable to a G5 iMac. I also have a G4 PowerBook and both machines are connected by wireless network. Copying, scanning and printing from the iMac was successful. But to print over the wireless network required that I activate Printer Sharing from the Internet & Network > Sharing preferences (accessed from the System Preferences). Once this was done on the iMac, the C4180 showed up as a printer on the remote PowerBook. One hitch occurred during scanning. I placed a map on the glass and used HP's Photosmart Studio to control the scan settings. I set the scan to 200 dpi and enlarged the preview frame to scan the whole image. After clicking OK a warning came up that I didn't have enough memory to complete the task (I had 1.5 GB of RAM and no other software running). So I brought up Photoshop and controlled the scan from there. No problems (and the scan completed at 200 dpi). I'll have to return to Photosmart Studio and dig into how it works. For ease of set-up and immediate gratification, this printer fulfills my needs and meets my expectations perfectly.

I've had my HP 2300n LaserJet printer for 8 months, and I'm very satisfied with it. It's my second HP LaserJet. My first was a LaserJet IIID which I bought in 1992 and still use today. I wouldn't have bought the 2300n except that some movers handled my IIID roughly and damaged the duplexing unit which I had been using almost constantly. It really saves paper and file space to print on both sides. When not in use, the 2300n goes into a power-down mode which is silent and makes it seem to be turned off except that an indicator light lets you know it's still on. Send a print job to it while powered down and it immediately springs to life and processes the task just as if it had not been powered down at all. This is a great feature because the machine does not wear itself out whirring away, making noise and using energy as the IIID does when not turned off.The 2300n is fast. The IIID's speed of 8ppm was considered fast when I bought it, but after getting used to 25ppm, I'd hate to give it up. The 2300n prints at a pace I associate more with photocopiers. My IIID had excellent print quality until last year, about 11 years after I bought it. The output has become dirty. It needs cleaning and servicing, but that's not practical now, especially considering that I live far from a service center and my 12 year-old IIID printer weighs 75 pounds.By comparison, the thirty-one pound 2300n is much easier to lift and move. I also like the fact that it takes up much less space than the IIID does, and it doesn't have those paper trays protruding out of it. The paper is nicely tucked away inside, where it should be, in an easy to open drawer. To accomplish this, the machine is intelligently designed to be slightly taller which is not a problem at all, just a better use of space. The IIID has only 300 dpi resolution which is fine for text, but not so fine for graphics. The 2300n prints beautiful graphics, not in color, of course, but when I want color, I use an inkjet. When I want to print a picture with the 2300n, the high resolution is very nice.I'm still using the toner cartridge that came with the shipped unit, but I keep a spare cartridge on hand. A great feature of the 2300n is the economical printing mode. I can easily turn this feature on and off (from within the Windows XP printing menu) and make my toner supply last longer. Unlike with the IIID, which also has an adjustment for toner consumption, with the 2300n, the econo-mode feature takes effect immediately. It makes the print lighter, but it's still quite readable and appropriate for those times when dark print quality is not needed.Whenever I think of my HP 2300n LaserJet, I always get a nice feeling. I can't think of anything I don't like about it. It takes up little space, It's fast, It duplexes, It's economical with time, energy and toner, It's quiet, It networks, It has wireless capability, It's plug and play, It has an easy to use control panel on the front, and I feel confident that it will perform whenever I call on it.I've come to trust the Hewlett Packard name for quality and performance. I teach English at a university in Japan where I write and print a lot of educational materials. Sometimes I make workbooks and print them in my office. I need a workhorse of a printer I can depend on to produce clean clear results. If my 2300n holds up only half as well as my old IIID did, I'll still be very satisfied.

Just recently I have been looking for an all in one printer that can also print good quality photos. I have always bought HP printers so I went to the hp site and looked at what they offered and decided to buy the hp photosmart 3210. So I came to amazon and was surprised to get it at a really great price.Anyway, after ordering I noticed many negative reviews here, mostly about paper feed problems. I was a little worried after reading so many bad reviews but I'm glad I bought it, it is a great printer. In one review I read something about hp having problems with the rollers which was causing the paper feed issue and that they dropped that company and started using new rollers which are black rather than gray. So the first thing I did when it arrived was open the back and check the roller color and they were black. So far I have printed over 100 pages and havent had any paper feed problems. Software install was really simple and i didnt have any problems with it. The photo quality is great even on the normal quality setting. Also the ink doesnt seem to get used up that quick, as i said before, i have printed over 100 pages and about 20 photos and the ink levels havent really gone down at all.I have recommended this printer to a friend and he has placed on order for it and i would recommend it for anyone else looking for a great all in one printer that can do great quality photos. It seems that HP has fixed the paper feed issue with the black rollers. If I have any problems with paper feed I will update my review.

To start off, let me say that I am traditionally not a fan of HP's products. I did, however, view this all-in-one as having some nicer features than some others and took a chance.I feel that generally HP does well with hardware products and or designs but struggles with their software integration with their products. I feel this is the case here as well. I have had my 3210 for about 2 weeks and here are my experiences.Pros: i) Scanning resolution and overall quality is quite good. ii) Printing quality is also good. I wasn't planning on doing a ton of printing but based on experiences I will probably do more than anticipated because of the good results. iii) Scanning and printing are both pretty quick. Marketed as the fastest picture printer all-in-one on the market... can't compare with others but I suspect they are correct here. iv) I was happy to find in my research that replacement ink cartridges are NOT terribly expensive and they are easy to replace and know if they are running low.Cons: i) Paper magazine is small so it doesn't hold a lot -- minor. ii) Software install was more of a pain than I was expecting. Installation on WinXP SP1 was generally OK but on WinXP SP2 it was a struggle. Not HP's fault, certainly, but they weren't able to make the installation easier to prevent some of these isssues or frustrations. I hope they have a lot of tech support people available as this product sells. iii) Network configuration was not as automated or straight forward as they could have been. iv) Software interface isn't as easy and fluid as it could be. I think that those who purchase this product that don't have some comfort with computers will be on the phone with HP often.Overall, I am pleased with the purchase thus far but still have some configuration to work through. In HP's defense, I haven't called or emailed their tech support -- but I shouldn't have to and my schedule makes this tough. Again, I feel the hardware implementation is quite good but their installation software and interface is lacking.

I'll keep this short...Pros:Prints QUICK.Print quality ROCKS. Even pictures. I normally can see the inkjet 'dots', but this is severely limited with this printer. While cartridges are small, if you print on "Normal" or quick printing, or degrade the saturation on default if you print a lot of for-your-own notes, the cartridges last over a semester of college (that's printing school papers, all class notes, etc)Never had mine jam.Ink cartridges aren't excessively expensive, and a few places give you $3 for bringing in old HP cartridges.Cons:Itty bitty cartridges. Can sometimes take in more than one sheet (inconvenient when printing double sided notes)When using the fastest setting, the printer doesn't so much as "set" the paper in the finished document holder ... it'd be more accurately described as an "emergency ejection"Printer is a bit noisy on normal settings. On the fastest settings, it wakes the dead.

However, this software seems especially "buggy". Nothing I couldn't overcome, but geez I do this stuff for a living. I can't imagine some nightmares others might of experienced. Like most companies they short change development have it coded overseas and we the customer are the software testers. Then if you're lucky and you get to call them for support you can't understand them.So great printer, buggy software, ok support.

This is my favorite item that I've ever purchased in my entire life! It is perfect at whatever it does - everyday printing, fabulous photo printing with superb quality, copying (color or b+w) and scanning. What really impressed me is the special feature that allows you to scan in 35mm slides! To me, that alone was worth the price! I had tons of old slides from my childhood that were languishing in boxes; now they've been scanned into my computer, manipulated via my graphics program, and printed out using paper and inks that will last over 100 years! WOW doesn't begin to describe it! It will also let you scan in negative strips, but I haven't tried that yet. The HP image editing program that comes with it is good. This printer also lets you print out a proof sheet of your digital pictures still on the card, and select only the ones you want to print. Oh - another great feature is that each ink color has its own cartridge, so you just replace what you need instead of replacing all your inks. I haven't needed any service help yet, but my experience with HP has been that they are the very best in the business. Altogether, this all-in-one has made me VERY happy and productive! A+++++++++++++++++!

I have always been a fan of Cannon photo printers but when it came time to replace my old printer this HP printer came highly recommended. 6 months later at about 50 4X6 photo's a week along with regular printing & this thing still works like it is brand new. It prints great photo's. I have compared the photo's to photo's from my old Cannon printer & there is just no comparison.Having 6 ink cartridges is also a huge plus, I can just replace 1 color when it runs out. The scanner works great, I have scanned in pictures that are 25 years old & have reprinted them & people just cant believe how great the quality is.Overall I really think it is a great printer, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great photo printer & who would also like to have a color photo scanner. As many of the other reviews have stated, the software installation was a little difficult but after about 15 minutes of working on it I got everything working. Well worth it though, I would not just take it back because of this. Also the paper tray does not hold to much paper. Honestly this is not a big deal to me, I just open the drawer & put more paper in, its not a big deal. Reading some of these reviews you would think people had to walk a mile to get to their printer to add more paper. This is why I read up on a product before I buy it so that their are no surprises.Maybe I just got the good one out of the batch, I don't know but I really think its a great printer.

I have been a fairly loyal customer of HP printers but my experience with the 3210 put me over the top. As everyone else, after 3 weeks, I got the dreaded "out of paper error" when the printer was not out of paper. I returned my first machine and thought it was just a lemon and bought another. The second printer did the same thing. I called HP and also got the run around on the phone with advice to pull out and reinsert the plug in the outlet. (Be serious!). Naturally, it did no good. They promised me a new one but in over a month as it was on back order. After making a big fuss, I got one sooner and that one did the same thing - out of paper when there WAS paper in the machine. Called HP, and got another one. That one had a defective mechanism and the entire machine quit. You guessed it, machine number 3 came and that one corrupted my system and it wouldn't boot up as soon as I tried to install the software. And when I installed the software for the first machines, my cd-rom drives disappeared and problems caused me to have to bring in my computer twice for repair. This is a veritable nightmare and there is NO reason for it. And I now have a stack of 3 machines in the process of being returned. After reading the letters I checked the rollers and they are both black AND gray and none of them work correctly. My solution? After swearing NEVER to buy an Epson, I did. I got an Epson RX 620. I prints beautifully, works perfectly, installed with no problems and did not corrupt my system. HP should be fined for their incompetence and unwillingness to fix this and compensate people for their ruined equipment.

I got this printer as a gift from my employer. Functionally, it's a very nice printer, scanner and copier and I was very happy with it unitl I ran out of ink. The HP 98 b/w cartridge it uses has a capacity of only 11 ml (HP 56 is 19 ml). It does not take too many pages of printing to use it up. Office Depot does not make any remanufactured ink cartridge for it and you have to pay full price for the HP original. It may be an inexpensive printer to buy but it is an expensive one to keep.

I travel quite a bit and needed a small printer to work with my Dell 700m laptop. I'm in the technical field service area. I was trying to choose between the Canon ip90 and the HP 460 but the Canon was out of stock so . . .I have found the HP 460 to be a fine printer. Software installed w/o any incident on WinXP Pro, size is small enough to fit easily in the suitcase. It is quiet and fast. When not in use it folds up nicely for protection. I've got no issues with it and am pleased with it's performance. Someday I may try printing a photo but I purchased it for it's mobility.I will be purchasing the battery and the 802.11g card for it in the next few weeks. That will provide some additional flexibility I occasionally need.I see some negative comments on the install but I earn my living with my laptop and keep it fully operational. The install was flawless.

we are very happy with it, it's quiet and easy to use. The display is a bonus for us since we like to print pictures straight from our camera card. I would purchase another and highly recommend it.

I bought the HP Photosmart 3210 about 6 months ago. The print quality, scanning function, and copy funtion all passed with flying colors. However, those qualities come second to actually having the printer function as expected. I too started having a paper feed problem (as you can see from many, many of the reviews). I am now on my THIRD replacement (remanufactured) printer...and still having the same "out of paper" error when the paper tray is full. It takes me about 30-90 seconds to print one page, if the printer decides to accept the paper you put in the paper tray. I have come to the conclusion that the HP front loading paper technology has some apparent flaws. I just gave up on getting the FOURTH replacement printer offered by HP and bought a comparable Epson. I am sticking with the top-loading paper technology that I know actually works.

Do you want to print photos? CAD images? How about a multi-page PDF? Well, if so, then avoid this printer. Yes, such simple tasks will not be possible. It has so little memory (just a guess) that it fails on nearly everything I send to it. As well, the same trouble with paper misfeeds, etc. you read about below are entirely true.

OK, received my first one of these as a Christmas gift. By Jan. 14, I was back in Best Buy returning it - the scanner/copier bulb had frozen in place and ceased to work. Took the replacement printer home, all was fine for about 3 weeks, at which time the paper feeder decided to pack up (got the old "paper tray empty" message despite the stack of HP brand paper in it!) Chatted to a tech at HP who said there is a "known problem" with the paper feed issue. Glad they are aware of this and apparently still selling them! Anyway, they sent me another one (no doubt a refurb) and within 1 week it started playing up! This time I get random error messages about either the yellow ink cartridge being missing (what?), or the ink cover door is open (huh?) According to tech, plugging the printer straight into the wall will help solve that (what a joke!) So far It's an on/off problem and a bit of jiggling/switching the machine on and off tends to take care of it, but I have to say I am absolutely disgusted with this product. For close to $300, I should not have to jiggle anything to get it to work properly. I have an old Canon printer too which is years old and still works like a dream! I will NEVER buy or recommend HP printers again which is too bad as they used to be quality products. Do yourself a huge favor and take this printer out of your shopping cart RIGHT NOW! I'm bummed that I am well and truly stuck with this - I would exchange it for a different brand in a heartbeat!
