The high points:* Print quality. I was completely amazed by the print quality of this printer, as everyone else has said. Once I'd printed out my first 4x6, I paraded it around the house, showing people and making sure I wasn't imagining how clear and sharp it was.* LCD screen. I didn't expect I'd care about the LCD screen, but it really does make printer maintenance and such very idiot-proof. And hey, eye-catching bright colors are nice too.* Separate trays for photo paper and regular paper. It's nice not to have to constantly change paper sizes.* The printer prints parallel to the edges of the paper! This hasn't always been my experience with HP.* The printer even looks nice. How often do you say that about a printer? I love the glossy finish.The only quibbles I've had so far are tiny, such as:* If I let the printer manage colors, sometimes there's been a bit of a light band at the bottom of various pictures. Letting Photoshop manage colors took care of that.* Occasionally there are tiny tiny spots of white on the otherwise flawless prints. No idea what causes this.* The printer really is big, but I knew that up front, and if the printer has to be this big to make pictures this beautiful and to handle 13x19 pages, then for gosh sakes let it be big.* The printer makes a lot of noise doing various mysterious printer things after you print a page. I don't know what it's doing, but it does it a lot, and loudly.* The included ink ran out quickly, with only light use. Buy the XL size cartridges.* The printer didn't come with a cable to hook it to the computer, and it uses the less-common square USB plug. Luckily I rummaged around and found a spare.* The HP sofware isn't great. It's better than any other HP software I've ever seen, but it's still clunky and buggy. I get an error message every time I shut down because of some sidebar gadget (even though I don't actually have it open on the sidebar).* The usual HP lies about how your ink cartridges are almost empty, and you should be ready to replace them any second! You can print and print long after these messages pop up (again and again). Just keep clicking OK and print until your pictures start looking bad.* And finally, the cropping problem (described in a couple of previous reviews).But, overall, moving from a Deskjet 1000C to THIS? It's like freaking night and day. I may seem to have a long list of problems, but they're really minor. In fact, I take it all back. The printer prints AMAZINGLY, and I don't know about you, but this is really what I look for in a printer.And now for the cropping problem. I've just spent hours sorting this out, and finally I've come up with a workaround. It's not elegant, but at least there is one. (My workaround is for 4x6 images printed from Photoshop [CS4]; you'll have to adapt my method to whichever program you're using.)For best results, do the following.1. Stretch your image's longest dimension to 102%.Yes, it's true, the printer doesn't print at the same proportions you see on your screen. It squashes your image's height just a bit. I know it's the printer, and not my screen, because I drew a perfect square in Photoshop and zoomed in on it and measured it with a ruler, and on the screen it was perfectly square. I printed it on photo paper and then measured the printed square, and the square was now a rectangle.2. Increase your canvas size.Your short side should be 105% of the original size, and the tall side should be 104%. This is to make a thin border around your picture and compensate for the cropping the printer does.3. Preview your picture.Definitely preview it before you print it (there's a setting in your printer properties), this'll save you paper. When the preview comes up, what you're looking for is a white border of a more-or-less consistent width around the edges of your image.4. Print it.You should find that your picture is practically identical to what's on your screen. It still crops the image ever so slightly, but you do want SOME cropping, because without cropping you'd have a white border, and we're going for borderless here. But on my prints, you have to look really close to see that the image has been cropped. MUCH better than the out-of-the-box results.5. Don't save your image!You're only making these changes for as long as it takes to print. You don't want your beautiful image to be slightly stretched with a permanent border.There you have it. I wasted half my pack of HP 4x6 photo paper to find all this out. But I wasn't content with the suggestion of transferring my picture file to a memory card and plugging that into the printer...too much hassle for me (although I'm sure it works just as well). I know my method isn't exactly streamlined, but if you do a lot of 4x6 printing I think you'll appreciate it. And if you're using a program with Actions or Macros you can automate this whole process.By the way, anyone want to buy a few dozen pictures of my 10-month-

Not impressed when I opened it, very plasticky, but now I am used to it I think it is great, lovely clear printing, I never thought that I would say it but superior to my recent Canon and the Airprint facility is simplicity itself. It is also noisy but I can live with that for the super results from either printing or scanning, amazing value from Amazon.

This is such a good printer. It's my second,and 100% better than the last(not an HP) Although I'm pretty ancient(76) AND a woman,I have found it reasonably easy to operate. It will print both sides(what a saving on paper) It also prints very quickly. I've had it for 2 months, and keep discovering new possibilities, The little touch-screen is magic. I can only recommend it.

I have only had this printer for a few weeks but so far I am very pleased with it. It was very easy to set up and very easy to learn how to scan to both email and my computer. My Mac, that I bought in 2011 recognised it without me having to load the HP software onto the Mac, I found that bit a little confusing but I worked my way through it, so even if you are not very good with computer things it is do-able. I think the quality of photo print is very good, printers have come a long way since I purchased my last HP printer nine years ago (which I might add is still going). This particular model was considerably cheaper for me to buy through Amazon than anywhere else.

If HP made printer/scanners, they'd probably make the worst in the world. Oh, wait a minute they do, and they really must be the worst in the world! I've yet to make a successful scan with mine. I think their idea is to get you to phone their premium rate line with your inevitable problem. That's where this bunch of swindlers make their real money!

Just as I expected. I bought this to replace an old HP psc 1355, that I'd had for along time. The new one has a bigger foot print, and a few more bells and whistles, but its quality is just as impressive and took no time to set up. I work from home and only do a small amount of printing but quite a lot of scanning. However I was a little fed up with the delivery, paying extra to have it delivered on a particular day, stayed-in waiting and it arrived on the morning of the next day. I feel this type of guarantee needs attending to because in my opinion it's not really a guaranteed delivery day. The printer however is great and I would recommend it.

The HP printer i had before this was crap - this takes it to a whole new level!
install loads of unwanted, badly written software to get you started - then constantly falls of the network (pretending to be in "eco" mode) - fixed only with a reboot.

i know these printers are cheap - but this one is going out of the window pretty soon.

avoid it like the plague.

Product was not a HP part. It was a refurbished unit. HP verified this information as did an outside vendor who was brought in to replace the part. This new unit had fuser defects, the print rollers were the wrong print rollers and were not usable. Poor experience.I was planning on having my copier support people install the parts, that I thought I could obtain cheaper and save money. End results costs me more. Will not buy from this vendor again.

Good printer, good quality prints, does what it says it will do but DON'T DARE put in aftermarket ink [non HP product] otherwise you will receive a notification on your screen every 2 minutes that a "Non HP Ink Cartridge" has been installed. Infuriating and will stop me buying ant further HP products.

WE were looking for a compact good quality printer and am very pleased with the ease of setting up and excellent detail in the photographs. My only dislike is that it seems as though the ink cartridges run out faily quickly but it is early days and the jury is still out on this one.

very pleased with this printer, had it for about four months and had no problems so far. Very easy to set up, I don't think the scanner gives a good copy of the picture being scanned, the colours are not as accurate as I would like them to be, but overall the printer is good.

Please do not buy a H.P Printer! I have an H.P Photo Smart E-Station printer. It wasn't cheap, so I thought that it would be great. The printer jams most all of the time. It won't pull the paper through, and even with new ink cartridges, the colors look faded. I have spent several hours both talking and left on hold by H.P. customer service people in India, only to be hung up on after they could not figure out the problem. Several times the customer service people said that they had to do some research regarding the problem and said that they would call back. I've not been called back yet and I've waited three weeks. Each time you call H.P. again, you start all over from the beginning, so have all your product information handy, and expect to be frustrated and NOT have your problem resolved. I get it now. H.P. customer service works by wearing you down, then you stop calling them and buy a Lexmark printer like you should have to begin with.

I've read a lot of printer reviews lately and many of them claim that the wifi printers turned out not to be compatible with wifi.

I received this printer in the morning and within 20 minutes had already printed my first photo from my iPhone.

Not only was the touchscreen really easy to use, the printer was ready to go and the photo looks as if I could have received it from a photo service!

It's a quiet and fast printer that is perfect for everyone.

Prints double sided which is great as my last one did not do that.
I did hav a problem when my first arrived in that it had a spring coil loose frominside the printer but contacted HP direct and they replaced the printer with a new one which was great

Found the printer easy to setup on wifi by following the printers setup guide. Having never used e-print before was not sure how easy this would be to set up, but again followed the instructions, created an email address and it worked - simple.
Also printed straight away from an IPAD.

This is a good personal printer. One fault I find is the noise and the meshing of gears when it is setting up. Quite harsh on ink and doubt it covers the amount of printing the cartridges say - or the cartridges are not so full these days.

I have always had a Canon before but dismissed having another as they seem to be just too smart and I am led to believe, use too much ink

superb printer great price amazon direct.sets up great iphone prints ok.
one problem now sorted.... e print setup wouldt setup and print code etc, workaround for this is go into printer setup on desktop go to ewr settings .network tab then alter ip settings to manual and enter 8.8.8.8 and below this 8.8.4.4 apply and alls well esetup working a treat.even without this its great printer.

Bought this to replace a previous photosmart printer which just did printing and photos and a lexmark all in one. This replaces both, with better quality than either. It is coping with a desktop running xp and two laptops with windows 7. I have hard wire and network to the desktop and have both network and wifi to the laptops. Quality is great and the change in cartridge type means I have replaced printers, bought spare ink, all for less than just getting ink for the previous 2 printers. Also saved space. Thoroughly recommend.

Don't believe the low reviews on this printer. I bought this printer first and then read the reviews. The low reviews scared me, but now that I've used the printer, I know that the low reviews are because the users didn't know how to set up the computer. Listen, it's an easy set up process. It takes about 20 minutes, but it's easy. Just follow the tablet instructions & videos. Another complaint from some was there was not a manual. Well, you can download it on the HP site. It explains everything! I think it rather funny that the people who complained about no manual didn't even think to read all the literature you can download from the HP web site. Nothing electronic anymore comes with a priinted manual. Manuals are all on pdf files now a days. I think the manual is also available on the CD. If you're having trouble, at least go to the HP web site. There are steps there to walk you through set up and everything, if you you really want print.When you register at HP there is all kinds of support. There is a FAQ list. A "How To" list. And even, a very short list of problems and how to fix those. HP has listened to their customers and have addressed them. And, no I don't work for HP. Like I said, i was ready to send this back until I did the research, so I want to dispel the myths from the low reviewers.This is a great home station! I have printed an email from work with Adobe & Word attachments with no problem. The attachements came out perfectly formatted.I have sent pictures through eprint from my cell phone email. The photo quality is AWESOME! Brilliant & vibrant colors.The tablet (Zeen) is basically a Nook with loads of extras. The touch is sensitive, but it's a learning curve. It's an android tablet, so you can download some other apps, I'm told. And you can take it with you to a wireless cafe & browse your email, the internet, facebook, read an ebook, whatever, and then email what you like to your printer at home. It's not an IPAD or a Zoom, so don't think of it like that. If you think of it as a super cool Nook reader with extras, you'll love it. Hey, you're getting a cool basic tablet pc and a wireless printer for a great price. I don't think you can print wirelessly from those pricey tablets.This printer is for home use so a dedicated fax line isn't necessary unless you fax tons. I occassionally fax, so the EFAX 20 free faxes per month is great for me.It takes time to learn all that the printer and Zeen can do. Just be patient and you'll love this. Oh, and if the tablet is not attached to the printer, you still have print, copy, and scan functions available to you.The SD card slot on the tablet can be used to read all your SD cards and send stuff to the printer or just listen to music, watch videos, and view photos directly from the card. Awesome!!"

One week, and dozens of delicious 4"x6", "5x8", custom 9"x6", 8.5"x11", and 13"x19" prints later (on glossy, satin, and matte' finishes), I am just in awe of this printer. I've always been an "Epson-person", and was almost tempted to go for the Epson-1400 (on-sale these days for only $199!). But, after comparing specs, features, user reviews, photography magazine reviews, actual print quality, and importantly (to me), operating costs, the HP-B8550 was the clear, no-doubt-about-it, hands-down winner.No, the B8550 does not handle super thick art papers like the Epson 1400, and it has fewer controls (RGB, ICC, etc.), but for 80% to 90% of professional and semi-pro photogs out there, it will do everything one needs, and do it well. For the average consumer, it will simply blow most other printers in it's class right off the table, and certainly in its price range. Thus far, in my experience, operating costs for this printer are roughly half (!!!) of what they would be for an Epson 1400. The HP OEM ink carts cost much less (and re-man carts are available), the paper (if using HP's brand) is cheaper, and according to my "at the plug" tests, it uses less energy as well. What's not to like?I personally did not find the printer over-noisy either. Compared to the three Epsons I have, it's far quieter, and spends much less time cleaning itself (an ongoing procedure that uses tons of ink in the Epson, while making an infernal racket). Setup was fast, and it puts out studio/lab quality prints in a comparative blink of an eye, and much faster than the Epson 1400. Though the feature set is geared more towards the "educated consumer" than the professional (ie, a built-in card reader, direct print options, and some of the controls), take that away, and you're still left with a printer that does professional quality work, and does it well. As a bonus, I also found it to handle everyday printing tasks quite well, with very readable text, graphs, acceptable speed, etc., though I suspect most, like myself, use a smaller format printer for these.It's large, but not overly so, especially in comparison to others in its class. The double paper trays are handy, but it has no back feed-through, as do some of the more expensive models. Unless one is using really heavy art paper, it's not needed anyway. One can front feed a 13"x44" (length limited by HP's printer driver) sheet through the front, and it works just fine for up to 70lb paper. For those types of long-length panorama-type printing jobs (and even smaller ones), I buy paper by the roll, and cut it myself. The printer allows nearly all types of finish and paper size options too, including user defined, and, as long as it's no larger than 13"x44", one can choose to print any size they like within those parameters.What didn't I like? Well, thankfully, the list is short. The upper photo paper tray will not stay up. It can slam down on you while servicing the lower paper tray. The design of the plastic hinge on the upper tray is weak. No biggie. I also did not like some of the "bloatware" (though many consumer-type users may find it helpful) HP included in its software package. Another reviewer here outlined how to deal with that. Once done, the software is much less intrusive and memory hungry. I also wish more color controls were available. As it is though, there's enough to satisfy nearly all users. As it cannot use the heavy art papers, this is less of an issue anyway, as one wouldn't be needing to download and install defined controls from the paper companies. I've found that HP's own color control standards, as well as others that I can use with this printer, including Adobe RGB, along with application directed controls from programs like Corel's Print Shop Pro Photo, really cover the gambit for me, and I would imagine most other users as well.In sum, I've been trying hard to wipe the smile off my face over this purchase. Every now and then, one stumbles upon a great value, and this is one of those. It's obvious, at least to me, that the few negative comments about this printer are from those who haven't yet quite grasped how to properly operate it, especially proper use of the controls. It's not that hard, and most controls are very user-friendly. Patience and practice is the key, and in no time, you'll be wondering why you waited so long to buy one,....and fire your processing lab.

brand new getting to know it. It replaced a previous photosmart that had more colours and a fax key.
I think this is better but it has still to prove its self.

It is better regarding the movie phone tablet wireless connection.
Would recommend hp photosmart printers.

HP Photosmart C4180 All in One Printer, Scanner, and CopierI bought the HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One not too long ago. I went with the HP brand because I have always heard good things about their printers. Although this printer I would not go with. I am a college student who prints a great deal of paper and I also wanted the option to print photos on my computer. For the money, I would have to say it does not work well enough for the price. For just regular printing, the sides of my pages are always bent once they are done printing. Being in college, this is not acceptable. It is very annoying when you have to reprint something because your pages are being bent. When printing pictures I find that it takes a great deal of ink to print one small picture I find myself buying too many cartridges just to keep up with my printing. In all, it sort of gets the job done, although I am not overly happy with it. I am not sure that I would recommend this printer to anyone just because it is not perfect for either photo printing or regular printing. The cartridges alone cost well over 50 dollars for colored and black and spending that once a month to print ends up hurting my pocket book.

I found initial set up somewhat tedious for my iMac (OSX 10.8.2) by downloading from HP, however it has been faultless in operation since and, unlike some reviewers, I have had no problems with Wi-Fi at all. Early days yet but I find no reason to complain!

Two hours out of the box and I can't connect the wireless to my computer. Amazingly HP don't appear to have included a USB cable in the box so I will have to go out and buy one tomorrow - if I haven't thrown the printer out of the window by then.

The print output is terrible!! Horrible!! Gum-like black ink... sticky and spreads like gum on the paper! What HAPPENED??I have received very good cartridges from this vendor for the Brother printers.I suspect this one is OLD and dated.. perhaps it has a very very old shelf life.I will try something else.., maybe fork over $170 for the pricey OEM HP Q2610A! I guess.

I was familiar with the HP 5740 and fortunate to get the same model as a replacement. The only reason the old one failed was becacause of poor handling on my part. I abused it and caused the ink to run out of the cartridges. It was a judgment call whether to spend the time and money cleaning the ink out of the interior or buy another, The new one has been used every day since I purchased it and functions very well. Великолепно

Economical & dependable... This is my 4th one. Too cheap to repair... I prefer single purpose printers that I can count on. Shop carefully... They are around.

very fast.
Arrived very quickly in a few days, What can you say to that.
I would really recommend this product for Home and small
