The short review is: excellent router, extremely easy to set up, great range, good stability, nice white color, absolutely no complaints.Here's the longer review:I took a total risk on this router...there were no reviews on Amazon, I'd never heard of ASUS, and wasn't convinced that ordering it was a good idea. However, the price was right, and I had just spent frustrating hours trying to configure a Netgear route. My previous router, a D-link, had a "known issue" that the manufacturer solved by discontinuing the model's support. So, I thought, let me try this unknown brand and see what happens. If worse comes to worse I'd just return it to Amazon.WOW was I pleased! Literally, 10 minutes after I had opened it, I had it configured as an access point, had logged into the router from my wireless laptop, and had set up a password to encrypt the network. I've set up maybe 5-7 routers in my life and always dread it... this was by far the easiest experience I've ever had. In the picture on the site, this router looks like it's an ugly grey color. It is a shiny smooth white - think Apple ipod aesthetic - with nice white antennas. Very aesthetically pleasing.Though the advertising for this router states "diskless setup" it come with an optional setup disk. I did not use it as I wanted to test the advertising's claim...and am pleased to say it's an example of truth in advertising!I'm also getting very good signal strength, speed and stability...I will DEFINITELY update this review if I run into issues, but overall I'm giving this thing 5 stars (and I almost never give 5 stars because I think everything has room for improvement) because it was so inexpensive and easy to set up, and performs exactly as advertised.I am using this router as an "access point" which means it is connected via ethernet cable to another router and serves to extend the range of my wireless network. There's a switch on the back that allows you to select access point mode, standard router mode, or bridge/repeater mode.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Update 5/10/2010- still working great... I put some white electricians' tape over the blue LEDs in front as they were too bright, but other than that, no issues at all. I forget it's there - it just works all the time without needing to be unplugged every so often like my other routers.... my wireless devices are always connected to it and don't lose signal. Still a 5-star review.Update 8/13/2011- This unit is still cranking away...doing great. I NEVER have to unplug and plug it back in, it just works... no rebooting. I just bought the N16 model to replace my primary wireless router (using this one as an access point to extend the network) and am very pleased with it as well... the two work well together. STILL happy with this router!

I bought this router to use as a wireless bridge for my Sony Blu Ray player. It's a bonus that it can be reconfigured as a router for when I eventually re-organize my network, or as an emergency back-up in case my existing wireless router fails.Set up couldn't have been easier. There's a three-way switch on the back to select between router, repeater, or access point. I set it to repeater, connected it via ethernet to my PC, then surfed to the admin page at 192.168.1.1. The default login/password is admin/admin. From there I simply selected my wireless network to repeat and entered the WEP password for it. That's all there is to it. I uplugged the router, plugged it into my Blu Ray player, and it just plain worked. No fuss whatsoever.So now it's acting as both a wireless bridge for the player, and as a repeater which increases the signal strength throughout the rest of the house!The instructions that come with the router aren't the greatest, and they're printed in what appears to be a 2 point font. But it was simple enough to set up that I didn't need them so I'll still give it 5 stars, especially considering the price.

I needed at wifi repeater so I could get a signal out to the workshop above my detached garage. Setting the unit up in repeater mode took under 3 minutes. After I set it up I positioned the router where I wanted it and went up to the workshop. Success! My wifi signal went from one bar to three bars immediately. Watched a Netflix movie without any connection hiccups like I had before buying this router.Haven't used any of the modes other than "repeater" but I would say you can't get better than this for the price.

We have Verizon Fios coming into a Verizon Actiontec wireless router (wireless G only) and a Linksys 54G access point on other end of house. The house is somewhat long and has old heavy duty walls (5000sqft). We have kids with laptops, Ipads, Iphones, and Ipod Touches. I had wanted to improve our wireless coverage and speed and ordered this unit based on reviews and flexability of the device (AP, Router, Extender). If it worked well, I thought I could get another and cover the whole hoouse with Wireless-N.I plugged it into a cental portion of the house (Entertainment center) in AP mode. Came up immediately as wireless-N AP (open). Was a snap to configure and security and had some nice additional features such as setting multiple SSID's and having the wireless turn off at certain times (ie. after midnight for the kids).I have not had a Wireless-N device before and to my surprise it covered the WHOLE house. The laptops are all connecting at 130Mpbs, which is 3x more than we were getting. The range is a HUGE improvement over the wireless-G devices.All of this for under $40! I wish I had done this a year ago.

I'll get right to the point. My 95 year old father is a nursing home resident. I set him up with a notebook that he uses for photography, email, Canadian Patience Solitaire, Facebook and most importantly Skype for face to face contact much his large extended family. The nursing homes wifi gave him 2 and 3 bars on his computer. Three bars gave him so-so communication but two bars gave him none. I bought the ASUS (RT-N12)wireless-N 300, plugged it in and started set to set it up. It was up on a shelf across the small room unattached to any thing. There was immediate communication between the notebook and router. With my mouth wide open I quickly noted that the notebook was showing the maximum six bars from the nursing home network. Skype has been working flawlessly since the router set up. The repeater segment of the N-300 certainly has worked in this instance.

You know what primary feature of router is stable sending/receiving traffic in your environment. I've tested several AP router.This had been gave the most horrifying experience to me. Don't buy this if you want to reduce your stress.Problem- Too easily disconnect or reboot if you uploading any file in your NAS at home.- USB port is not stable.- Control UI is crazy.- Wifi of PC/Mac is continuously stuck out whenever you ask big file sendingGood luck!

Received on time. Immediately changed routers to dd-wrt software which went exactly as it should. Bought four of them and they all have been working as expected. Nothing fantastic, range is about the same as our other wireless N's, but for the price it's a much better deal. I heard that any router under about fifty bucks is suspect, and hackable, but with dd-wrt this is much less likely to be a problem. Have to wonder if inexperienced users are buying low priced models and not setting them up securely by leaving the default settings. Have another order in for more of these, they're doing the job for us.

I had been looking for a while for a way to extend the range of the wireless in my house without having to dish out a bunch of money for a new high-powered router. I have an Asus RT-N12 and have had a bit of trouble with a few different access point and range extenders. The RT-N12 also works as a repeater, but none of the other points I purchased would connect to it unless I dropped my security. Back to my point, I finally came across the RT-N10+. Hooking this up was easy. I was able to connect it to the RT-N12 fast and easy and had the RT-N10+ running as a repeater within 15 minutes. At the price, I'm very happy with this purchase.

I needed an N router that could run Tomato firmware. This is one of the few, plus it has gigabit ethernet to boot. The router (with tomato) is great in every regard except for one: range. The range is not very good at all compared for my old buffalo G router. I experimented with several antennas, even directional ones, but that made little difference. I might also add, it very difficult to collect range data given the amount of variability that exists in the RF range. Overall, I like it and still use it, but next time plan on getting one in the 5Ghz range.

Pros: Fast, Powerful, USB Ports at a good priceCons: Firmware from Asus is crappy, it drops wireless signals all the time. The other major issue is that the included directions and utilities have no Macintosh support. I emailed their tech support and they told me outright that they didn't support Macs. This is mainly for the file sharing & printer sharing functions. the utilities worked fine on Windows.I flashed the unit to the Tomato USB firmware and its working much better. Re-flashing was pretty easy (no command line). Only negative with Tomato is that I've not figured out how to use the scanner function of my multi-function printer. The printer works fine.Update: Tomato didn't do everything I wanted. I never got the multi-function thing working and this router keeps giving me trouble, up to and including no longer holding wireless clients. I'm going to be returning this to Asus.

When I first received this router I had difficulties trying to navigate the built in user interface. I know it is supposed to be user friendly and make things easy but that was not the case at all for me. It kept telling me to change this and that setting to enable to make a network, then it didn't allow me to actually change those settings. Eventually, I got frustrated and just flashed tomato onto the router, and now it works like a charm. fast, lightweight and easy to use.

This router has been nothing but great. I needed something to replace my old Linksys WRT-54G and this fit the bill perfectly. I can't comment on the default firmware because the first thing I did was flash it to the TomatoUSB firmware, but I'm yet to have a single issue out of it.

I can say about this router that for the price, you get a great value. I have used it for about one month in my apartment that has concrete walls between rooms but that is not an obstacle to obtain excellent Wifi reception in every one of them. I can stream movies to four computers simultaneously from my WD Media player without interruptions. I have not tried yet the FTP function, and I think I won't, cause I can use my 1.5 TB WD HDD as a server in my LAN, attached to one of the two USB ports of my Media Player. Also its look is very nice, in conclusion great buy for the price.

exceedingly difficult to set up. I'm not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination so I basically tried every combination of mouse clicking and google searching to get this sucker up and running. I purchased this as a repeater but QIS (quick internet setup) NEVER worked for me so it was a huge headache.Trying to go to 192.168.1.1 failed every time so I ended up having to install "Device Discovery" to access/configure the ASUS. To actually get to the place where you can select the network you want to extend the range for you have to go to the configuration screen. At configuration screen, choose "Network Map" on left. Click the top icon with the Earth globe over a router (this was tricky because the icon doesn't look like it's clickable/selectable so I passed over it the first 10 times). Select "Go" from the menu that pops up to the right. Then select the network to extend.No guarantees that this will work because there were a lot of missteps, unplug, replug, connect, disconnect, yelling at the router, etc. Good luck.

I bought this router from a local store about 6 months ago, to replace a Buffalo router with a failed wireless board. I wanted to make sure I got a router that was explicitly supported by DD-WRT, since that is what I was running on my old router, but I decided to give the ASUS firmware a chance first. Configuration was easy enough, but the wireless connection was inconsistent and kept dropping, even though my laptop was 10 feet away. Sometimes it wouldn't reconnect automatically, which forced me to reboot the router once a day on average. I gave up after a week and installed DD-WRT, and it has been solid ever since. So while this is a good inexpensive router, in my opinion it really needs DD-WRT installed to make it reliable.

I've had this router since Black Friday 2011 and it works fine. I updated the firmware and find this latest version finally good enough that I won't switch to either Tomato or DD-WRT. BTW, I'm successfully using a different branded router(RNX-N150RT) as a (Universal)repeater to extend my wireless network.Many warn against expecting 2 different branded routers to interface in what I believe is a non-standardized function, but Universal Repeater vs. WDS is a safer bet, or so I've read.

Bought this router and tried to use the factory firmware. Very frustrating and not very powerful at all. Had to reboot this router all the time it seems.I finally downloaded the appropriate DDWRT firmware and it's great. The DDWRT firmware is solid and expands the functionality so much!Bottom line - if you don't mind installing the DDWRT firmware, this is a great little router. If you don't know much about firmware installation or you're looking for an out-of-the-box solution - look elsewhere.

I purchased this router through amazon less than a month ago. The router was working great then all of a sudden I had to unplug it to move some stuff around and then when I plugged it back in, it doesn't turn on anymore. I tried it in every outlet in my house and nothing. Very Disappointed!

I bought this device to use as a wireless repeater. I have a wireless N router that sits in one corner of my house. I needed something to boost the signal past some walls, appliances, and to the other end of my house and screen porch. This ASUS did the trick. I have it plugged into an AC wall outlet in the middle of my downstairs and it has taken me from two bars to five bars on my wireless signal throughout my entire home. My only complaint is the directions and set up. With a device that works so well, they should have better instructions. Quite frankly, the instructions look like a second grader wrote them and you need a magnifying glass to read. When I first hooked it up to my laptop to run the setup, it crashed. However, by that time, it had already communicated with my router and was working, so I didn't bother it anymore, as it was doing what I wanted. If the manufacturer would spend a few hours rewriting the instruction booklet, this would be a perfect product. Regardless, it is working great as a repeater and I have five bars throughout my home and even on the porches. I would highly recommend in spite of the instructions.

Okay, this is the first review I have written for Amazon, but I felt compelled, because I had to do too much research on this project.The quick backdrop:I have recently moved to a new house, and I have two areas in the house requiring internet. I could not run a CAT5 cable from the source to the back room, where I am running both a windows XP and Ubuntu desktop. I already have a Linksys wireless b/g/n router but I didn't want to buy USB wireless dongles for my desktops (each new desktop would require a new dongle).After much looking on the internet, I wasn't sure which equipment was correct to act as a long distance access point (for my wired devices). I bought this one, because it was a good price, and had both repeater mode and access point. I figured something must work.I was quite pleasantly surprised to find out how easy it was to set this up. I am quite techy and don't fear digging in to solve any problems, but I didn't have too many issues. One warning; when using the IP address for the original Linksys router (192.168.1.1), I ran into problems. After installing and using the manual software on that came on the CD, I was able to get to the proper settings. I am now running in repeater mode (yes, the repeater boosts the signal AND communicates to the 4 wired/switched LAN connections) with the bonus that I also have good signal to the garage (200 feet away from the original transmitter).Let me repeat: THIS PERFORMS WELL AS A WIRELESS BRIDGE TO WIRED DEVICES.I hope this turns up in someone else's Google search.The Final analysis:It works well for what I needed, without any upgrades. I have been using it for 4 days no problem. I will now consider Asus as a legitimate computer accessory brand, and look forward to using their products.

I had this router during 9 months and I was not satisfied at all. The slightest small jolt (flash of lighting, thunder, even rain, residential electric variation, sometimes nothing) made that I lost the connection and had to disconnect / reconnect the router. When I called up to get some help(ASUS technical support), the technicians tried to help me but unsuccessfully. I do not recommend this router at all.

I bought this router to extend the range of my service provider wireless signal. This product was able to extend the signal from good all the way to excellent. I did also have the router hang but will flash to the latest. I bought another product for twice as much and was disappointed with the power and range. This product has excellent transmit power and sensitivity.I took it to my hotel and was able to get 3 times more wifi sites than my laptop. Also the signal repeated into my laptop wireless is excellent. I now have no problems with week signals and dropped connection in the hotel and can also search for surrounding free wifi hotspots.

if modem reboots, will not suck up new address. will not support all printers. canon mp530 as well as many others, plus only three brands of printers are supported, i believe the other 2 were hp and epson. go to the website to find if your printer is on the list. i tried to flash with tomato- no go but that was when it first came out. i was going to try again (as i finally lost my old rosewill router due to lightning, 2nd time. rosewill was great, always sucked up new address, no print server on rosewill though.) when i discovered why my printer froze up while printing, it isnt supported by asus. it is also slow when connecting to the router, once connected, it worked faster than my rosewill.some sites that might help: [...]but this one is the motherload of info:[...] worth trying again, but not sucking up the address and having to power cycle the asus router each time is not something im looking forward to. if you only use at home, this router should perform like a champ, maybe.

Many reviewers mentioned poor firmware. As this is an 'old' router, the new one is rated top-tier, and this was priced right, I decided to chance it.After plugging it in, I installed (easily) updated drivers available from ASUS. It has run like a top ever since: iPad, iPods, Xbox and PC's (wired & wireless) go without dropping or hesitation.Outstanding; would recommend to anyone.

With Linksys doing everything in their power to cripple their hardware and Buffalo churning out some of the flimsiest shiny plastic boxes a hundred dollars can buy, Asus seems to be rising up as the lesser of the three evils. Asus' firmware is so far beyond worthless it's not even funny, but if you don't mind dinking around with tftp four or five times in a row to get a successful flash going, you can load up something else and be on your way.Signal-wise, I found the performance to be good, but not stellar--in my house I got twice the strength I did from a WRT54GL, but not quite as much as one of the sadly discontinued Buffalo HPs. Antennae are removable, but I noticed no significant difference with any of the bigger ones I've got laying around; whatever's in the box is probably best for city-dwellers.Tomato USB found and shared my aging LaserJet amongst my Macs without issue--something Apple's printer sharing has never been able to do. The power supply doesn't look like it's particularly well-made, but I haven't had any problems with it so far.All-in-all, I'm satisfied with my purchase, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who needed a good user's manual or was afraid of replacing the firmware.

I've had this item for about one month and it's still working great. I had an older N version router that would not work with the wireless feature on my Directv DVR. I hooked this up and after a few problems (not caused by this router), all 7 of my wireless peripherals are running super smoothly and FAST. You can also flash this router with DD-WRT if you're feeling adventurous.UPDATE: Died after about 10 months (no power). Returned to ASUS to fix under warranty. One month later a replacement just showed up in the mail (no communication during that time). The replacement unit lasted ONE DAY and I had to send it back. ASUS Customer Service has returned e-mails fairly quickly but be prepared to wait months to get warranty issues resolved.

If you want to use the RT-N12 to connect devices to your wireless router from another room use the REPEATER setting, this sets it to act as a bridge. You need to use a computer for initial setup and boot it up with ONLY the RT-N12 for network connectivity. When it boots up, it pops the browser and in my case, I just selected network, it asked for the WEP Key, and went through a 3 minute setup cycle. I confirmed I could access the internet and then shutdown. I then moved the RT-N12 to the entertainment room and connected my old non-wifi Xbox 360, to it and had no problems at all. WARNING, if you try the above with the Wireless Access Point switch setting your barking up the wrong tree and will get nowhere. For this situation use the REPEATER setting not the WAP.

I purchased this to replace a G LinkSys router that also worked very well. This was easy to set up and defaults to a secure network, unlike the LinkSys I had. My laptop is a G still, but my signal strength changed from "low" to "good" and sometimes "very good" in one part of my house with no other change. This router also allows you to not broadcast the SSID for added security. My network ready Blu-Ray connected easily as did my Wii. No problems on set up. I recommend for the price (I paid $30).

I was concerned I would need to move my existing router to the center of the house AND get this thing set up in the basement in order to get good signal - not the case. I have the wireless router upstairs on one side of the house, and this guy set up as a repeater on the other end of the basement, and I get 5 bars all over the house. Now I can enjoy all the wireless downstairs and plug my TV into one of the LAN plugs on it to enjoy its internet functionality. Just what I was looking for.

For timesaving setup info regarding the RT-N12 in REPEATER (WiFI Bridge) mode, please read Jay's review from Sept 20, 2011.Great unit, as advertised if setup properly in Repeater mode. I went from 6-7Mbps to over 17Mbps with this repeater plugged into a wired connection. Why use the wires when you have wireless!? Well if you use equipment that are download hogs (Roku, Apple TV, or even a TV hooked into Netflix) this system will do you wonders without running CAT5 around your whole house!Thank you Jay for your information (saving me an hour on the phone with ASUS)! I really appreciate it!

First off, this router is amazing. I am completely confident if I had solely purchased this router for single use, not as an extender, I wouldn't have had a problem at all to set it up. However, I was trying to extend my wireless connection for my wired xbox 360. I simply was not having any luck using the preloaded firmware. As a note the wireless router I am extending is the Linksys WRT54GS with version 1.05I.7 firmware. Fiddling with ASUS's dumbed down firmware was enough to make one pull their own hair out. Reading the other reviews and their successes with DD-WRT prompted me to go ahead and try it, sure enough it worked. To all of those who cringe at the thought of flashing the firmware yourself, its not bad, really. By no means am I an amateur computer user but I am far from being a super user. I simply googled around for DD-WRT and installing it onto this particular ASUS router. I found a fairly cookbook recipe to do this and was able to get my xbox up and running in about 3-4 hours. The first hour was essentially wasted trying to use the ASUS firmware. If you have two computers it might make the whole process a tad bit easier, that way you can manually set the IP address of the router and then with another computer configure the wireless router you are extending. I hope this review helps someone.In all I was able to extend my wireless connected to a wired XBOX360. Best of luck to everyone.

In addition to the title of the product being a Router, Access Point, and Repeater, they should add "4 Port Wireless Bridge".Prior to setting up this product, I had a 2 port wireless N bridge and an 8 port hub plugged into it - 2 ports weren't enough. Also plugged into the bridge was an old Wireless G Access Point to provide extended coverage at that end of our house. I used the access point plugged into the bridge because the bridge was already in that area of the house, and having this old access point it saved me a few bucks that I wouldn't have to spend on a repeater. All was working well - aside from the minor inconvenience that while connecting to the access point at the other end of the house, it had a different SSID.I picked up this item since I saw one on Warehouse Deals for a bit of savings, it is wireless N, and I figured I would get good use out of it since I could repurpose it in the future.When it arrived and I read the quick setup instructions of how to configure the repeater mode, I began to think that it could double as a repeater in addition to being a bridge simultaneously. Sure enough, after it was configured, I replaced both the existing bridge and the wireless G access point that was plugged into it, then plugged everything into the RT-N12 and voila! Everything is connecting - repeater mode for the wireless devices that were out of range, in addition to being a bridge for all the wired devices.I have other Asus wireless products and they all function flawlessly.I'm very happy with this item - couldn't be happier.

Within 5 minutes of receiving the packet in the mail, my WIFI was up and running, and for someone who doesn't really understand computers and all the technical jargon, that's a pretty big deal. Easy installation and set-up. The router itself is also very aesthetically pleasing. Can't comment on the longevity of the product since I only received it a couple of days ago, but given all the other reviews on how long this router lasts, hopefully I won't have to update my review for the worse!

I just received this router last night .. and many people had recommended flashing it with DD-WRT firmware .. so I was very scared of that since people also said that if you make a mistake, your device can become useless. but I decided to take a chance because of the amazing price of this product. it turns out that after watching some YouTube videos on how to flash a router with DD-WRT, it's very easy!! you have to be very dumb to screw up! haha .. just make sure you watch a couple of different videos so you understand what's going on. Overall, the entire process of learning how to flash and setting up my wireless network took me about 2 hours. but it was worth it! So far, this is a great product! I will update my review if something goes wrong!

i bought this router two month ago. it always showes full lines when i check the signal.the reason that i bought it becacuse i have Asus computer. it worth more what i pay fore. go head and dont hestate and buy it.Bingo

Didn't work upon arrival. The lights came on, but no one was home. The Asus support website was a nightmare to navigate through. The only good part about this product was that the man who helped me from Tech Support spoke fluent English! He ruled that the product was defective and needed to be returned. Now I'm forced to find something else.

Worked as advertised - I am using this as a repeater to extend the range of my network ; main router is from Cisco. Set up was a bit of a challenge, but not overwhelmingly so - it was not just plug in and go ; finally got it to setup by hooking up computer and managing it through an ethernet connection.

Bought 2 of these to set up a wireless bridge to replace a wireless-G bridge I had before (Buffalo). Router is fairly straightforward. The second one as a repeater needs tinkering however if you want best performance. The stock firmware did not seem good enough. I had to get the latest beta firmware on Asus's website (v9.x) to get decent speeds between the 2. I tried DD-WRT Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) min. While the settings on DD-WRT are comprehensive, I need to reset it once a day (after a period of disuse, the client bridge seems unresponsive). BTW, the best performance seems to be when I do 40Mhz band, wireless-n only between the routers. On the plus side, this is very very cheap!

I guess you get what you pay for. From the positive comments I was hoping for a repeater that could pick up a signal better than what my Toshiba (Win 7) laptop. Not only did it fail to be equally good I had to move it almost 10 feet closer to the router to pick up the signal. The problem was that point was outside. Once the signal was picked up the broadcast was good but not great.The directions are evil! They consist of plug in and "go to the website" a website that does not auto load and the address is not printed in the directions or CD. I finally launched the website after so many steps I cannot recall how I managed to find the address! I think it was in the pdf manual. After that good luck finding the utility to list connections.Before you purchase walk around with your laptop. If where you want this repeater you can get a strong signal on your laptop this may work for you. If not,... good luck.

There's a lot of potential for this router and honestly, the third party firmwares available are in the beta stages. Many N routers fall into the same beta category. I didn't like the reviews & forum results for DD-WRT for this router so I went with Tomato instead. But I found another beta firmware I liked better. Both worked better than the Asus firmware it shipped with. I did not try any of the recent firmwares released Asus.There are posts out there stating that flash to DD-WRT prior to flashing to Tomato is necessary but not true for me. I followed the instructions and installed the Asus Recovery Utility to PC and downloaded Tomato firmware (saved in PC). Then I connected PC to LAN and disabled my PC's firewall (the Asus Utility requires that)and removed power from router. Holding reset button on back of router while applying power and holding until power LED flashes will prepare it for a flash. Launch the utility and browse to file and load it. Simple if you're familiar with flashing. Once flashed to Tomato, it's actually easier to update or flash to another third party source. (Important: don't forget to re-enable the firewall!)My network consists of this router, an 8 port switch and the DOCSIS 2.0 modem. I would have preferred the DOCSIS 3.0 modem but I can't complain about any traffic issues and browsing speeds are fast. I actually have two VOIP devices connected; one is Ooma telephone (two lines) and the other is a cellular booster for Sprint (up to three lines). I also have a streaming capable BluRay Player, two stream capable Directv HD-DVRs, a PC and a networked multifunction printer in my network. The Qos in the router is setup in such a way as to not limit browsing speeds drastically while still giving highest priority to VOIP adapters because their bandwidth needs are small and can be limited accordingly. The firmware I'm currently using was not recommended for VOIP as it is classified in advance for a number of common needs but simple classifications can be added and elevated up the list of priorities to personalize. I had no problem getting flash and INTERNET connection. I have a dynamic IP and this router with the Tomato versions I tried booted after flash and connected within a minute. Streaming of video and audio is both local and INTERNET.What some may not like the lack of dual N-band wireless. There is only wireless 2.4GHz N-band. No reboots or wireless dropouts to report but most of my network is wired.

Omg ....I bought a different router and had an I.t. professional try to install it...well it didn't work. so he told me to buy this one and try to install it and call him if I needed him....long story short...I didn't need him! I am not computer savvy at all and this was SUPER easy to Install! I highly recommend this router!

I bought this router to use as an access point for my Netgear dual band router. It is easy to set up as an access point (AP) if you have a PC. Actually it sets up as an AP simply by setting the switch on the back and plugging the ethernet cable in. The enclosed drawing for AP setup is misleading. It seems to indicate that the cable should plug into the WAN port, however, it has to be plugged into one of the 4 LAN ports. Plug and play leaves you with no security on the wireless connection. The CD supplies a Discovery Utility for a Windows PC that lets you see the box on the network and determine an IP number. With the IP number you can use a browser on either a PC or Mac to administer the AP and setup WPA encryption and a password. Since box initially picks up an IP by DHCP, I suspect you could set it up even without a PC, by trying IP numbers by trial and error.The box has been running without problem since I set it up. I used to get a transmit rate of 27 Mb/s connecting directly to my Netgear router (3 walls and 50 ft away). I now get 145 Mb/s from the Asus (1 wall and 25 ft away).March 26, 2011 Repeater ran flawlessly for two months. Now I have to reset it on an almost daily basis. I'm afraid I can no longer recommend the router. Update: Updated the firmware to the latest version, but the reset frequency ended up on the order of a few hours. I have returned to Asus for repair/replacment under warranty, but I pay the shipping costs to CA.April 23, 2011 ASUS replaced router with ASUS RT-N13U. Setup is very similar and is working well at the moment.

Finally a device that has smart self configuration software and works great without hassles.I bought it as a network extender (repeater). It has a hardware switch to change between router and other functions. You connect it with a ethernet cable to your computer. It opens up a browser window and with a few question self configures itself within a few minutes. Very good signal strength. Buy it. you wont' be disappointed. My only con is that the white is pretty obtrusive, I'd prefer black.
