In short, this is the best router out there on the market. The RAM and the Flash space beats all other routers by a mile. Seriously. Other routers don't even come close.For those of you less advanced... stick with the original firmware. It actually works well (the original firmware even contains snippets of Tomato's VPN code), is easy to set up, and didn't have a problem dealing with the wireless and torrents I threw at it.A bit of advice though for advanced users, I've been using this router for a couple months now, and in my experience Tomato firmware works *MUCH BETTER* than DD-WRT for this router. I've installed about 5 different DD-WRT builds on my RT-N16, and Every single DD-WRT build I use, the wireless connection would slow down from about ~20 MBytes/s to ~5 MBytes/s after about ~20 minutes.Switched to Shibby's Tomato Build, and the router has worked flawlessly since. For those of you who want to try, get the following build from the tomato.groove.pl site:tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT5x-MIPSR2-083V-AIO.trxor just search for Shibby's or Toastman's latest K26 MIPSR2 Tomato build.Tomato Fixed everything for me. DD-WRT is good firmware, but they support so many different types of hardware that sometimes support slips through the cracks, like for this router.

I've had this product for an entire year and its going very strong. I flashed it with Tomato, and have all kinda things connected through it. THe CPU and large memory is particularly nice, its almost like a mini computer. Signal strength and speed is very strong. Totally recommend it.

This truly was a router for someone more tech savvy then me. I was not able to set it up for the extra uses that I wanted it for. I had to buy a dumber router that does it automatically.

Great router, but you need to update the firmware with better results and options for variation of connectivity purposes andother security reasons. If you know what your doing I highly recommend this router for advanced purposes.

I did not realize how powerful this router is until I bought and tried it at my home. I download a lot of torrents. This router has a built in torrent downloaded. A Great help for people like me who do not have a computer at home.

Installed and updated firmware to newest version (released 5 days ago ) easy as cake. Excellent coverage through masonry walls in uncrowded airspace, ASUS UI is equally as great. Haven't dug into USB features or custom firmware yet but you can't beat a product that drops out of the box and really works well. Also of note, ASUS has added the AiCloud feature listed on their newer devices.Amazon's link to current rebate is expired- had to go though competitors website- however you can't complain about their blazing fast shipping.

I purchased another "so-called" DD-WRT router, but it was a huge lie!!! What turned out was a regular router which I had to throw away since I already owned one. If you are looking for a DD-WRT preinstalled router, go with the ones sold by FLASHROUTERS. I just received their product today, complete with a customized installation and configuration guide. They contact you right after you put your order and ask you for your technical details and custom configure your router! Simply amazing!

First off, let me say here and now that a good router is one of the most difficult components to choose. I had some specific requirements which were as follows...1) Stable wireless signal, ie not dropping all the time, also decent range and good throughput.2) At least 4 gigabit ports for switching.3) Dual band simultaneous4) DD-WRT support.5) NOT be a linksys (last 2 experiences were horrible)6) $100us or lessHonestly, I went into this thing looking for a dual band router, specifically a simultaneous dual band router. All of them though apparently suffered from poor 5ghz range, throughput or some shortcoming or the other. I looked around and found a whopping total of 1 device I have that uses a dual band wireless card. So really, whats the advantage of dual band if the 5ghz is weak and slow. What do we do with the weak and slow? Shoot it. So I shot the 5ghz most humanely.From there, my choice became clear. I have been playing with this asus for a few days now with DD-WRT and its great. You are able to create policies that will block torrent access via ports. You can also select specific clients to which the policy is applicable. There are also time of day settings where all policies can be implemented on the DAY and TIME you want. VERY sexy. So ive set up a policy on mine that can block ALL torrent access while keeping the Internet accessible.There's also a dedicated internet killing option that totally kills ALL internet access, leaving only local file access in tact. Again, this can be set on an individual client basis.At first I had a lot of issues with the wireless signal dropping during file transfers even with Asus' latest firmware. After much frustration, it turned out to be the wireless adapter I was using was faulty. I switched over to another and instantly the problem went away.So far I just managed to get a solid, stable 150Mbps using a Belkin expresscard adapter while another laptop with the Intel 5300agn adapter reached 300Mbps quite easily. Even so, strangely enough, I got faster transfer rates with the Belkin using Windows 7 despite its slower connection speed.The wireless coverage is sufficient as all areas of the small-medium single level house receive at least a 'good' Windows signal rating through a mixture of wood partitions and concrete walls. While the Asus will be used primarily for N connections on channel 6, I also have a Linksys RT160n on channel 1 as a secondary access point to handle guest machines and wireless g connections.I've heard many complain about overheating on this unit but while transferring data through both wired and wireless connections simultaneously in a ~ 26c room, it NEVER gets more than slightly warm to the touch.In closing, here are some pro's and cons I have identified in my week with this router.Pros1) Blazing wired performance through its 1Gbps switching ports2) Fast, stable wireless connections that have not dropped as far as I have observed3) dd-wrt compatible for accessing advanced features (MUCH better than the default firmware)4) Strong dd-wrt community support and updates (there is a lot of help available for this router on their forums.5) Aesthetically pleasing6) Fast cpu, memory and storage7) Blue lights are a nice touchCons1) USB drive setup using dd-wrt is a bit challenging (not a fault of the router itself)

This is actually the first wireless router I've bought for myself and the first one I've ever set up. It was incredibly easy to set up and start using right away. I've had it for a little over a month and it's worked perfectly so far. All of my devices find it easily and it has pretty decent signal strength. It's actually managed to make my internet connection nice and smooth while my connection when hooked to the modem (stock cable company modem...ugh!) had issues with cutting in and out. Overall, thumbs up!

This is a good router. Asus customer support was helpful (beyond slight communication/language barriers) when my house got hit by lightning and the router crapped out, surge protector didn't help but apparently it's not a lightning arrester so I get what I paid for. Anyway, Asus just sent a new router and the problem was solved. Setup was very easy and I was surprised to see a noticeable speed bump over my old Belkin 802.11g router. The lights on this are a bit bright but some tape could fix that if I really cared. All in all it's nice, get it.

The is my first ASUS product. I didn't have any hesitation buying it as I have always heard ASUS had good quality. Just under three months of use and it is dropping the broadcast signal. The front shows that the wireless is working, but the unit is not broadcasting. Unplugging and waiting a minute, then plugging it back in resolves the problem. Updating to the latest firmware fails to resolve this issue. It is definitely a hardware issue. I contacted ASUS support, they agreed it was a hardware issue and the best they can do is a 2-3 week turn around time for repairing it. 2-3 weeks is unacceptable to go with out this item. Please be aware that they do not offer advanced replacement on this product, so if it fails.. you will be without.

Bought this to replace a wireless router for my MIL that has been causing her huge problems.This router just works.Its rock solid.It allows you to create a guest SSID with QOS so you dont have to tell everyone your protected SSID password.This is actually the second time I have purchased this router for someone else.Once its in place I never hear about problems from them.Great price, great product.

I purchased this router through Amazon. I did not get an opportunity to try and install it on my computer until the 3rd week after receiving it. When I did try, I had technical difficulties and got some (after an extensive game of phone tag) tech suppport. The tech determined the product did not work with my system. So, I contact ANTonline as they were the seller through Amazon. My 30 days had expired as I had spent the entire last week trying (spending many frustrating hours) to get the router up and running. I am guessing I spent about 10 hours total. I explained to them that there was no defect to my knowledge, but the router just did not work w/my system and one of their techs suggested I return it for a refund. I explained that I care for two immediate disabled family members and found it difficult to get time to install the router and I had spend several days trying to get tech support, phone numbers and live people to talk to. They did not care; my 30 days was up and that was that. Now I am stuck with a pice of equipment that I don't want nor need. If I resell it at a discounted price, that person would not have a warrany :( So sad that they cannot make an exception from time to time for honest people who have these types of difficulties.

Recently replaced an ageing non-wifi dsl router with the idea of loosing the standalone AP I had connected to one of the LAN ports.The N-10 was a doddle to set up using the wizard, only having to input my providers username and password.However, like other reviewers I found WiFi conectivity a nightmare - dropping in/out all the time, strength excellent then lost. Other family members I-phones, Laptops, Network printer, all experianced the same issue, even if they were allowed to join - sometimes they wern't? Thaught it may be the 5db ant, focusing the signal to give better distance at the expense of short range conectivity. So changed it for a 2.5db - no change. Canceled all encription. Making the WiFi open. No change.Eventually visited Asus support and downloaded the most recent firmware v1.0.3.2 (was 1.0.1.2) and re-flashed.RESULT. Have now refitted the 5db ant, re-set encription and have had a stable connection on all 5 client devices for the last 4hrs.

Hardware is good, strong signal, and great throughput. Stock software leaves something to be desired, kept dropping connection, and didn't stream video very well.
