Amazing local speeds, great range, wish there was a switch to turn off only the LEDs as they are quite bright and its in my room.AMAZING candidate for DD-WRT.

I got this for around 30-35$ don't remember but anyways its been a while since I got the router and it works fine. It was the first router I ever bought and I think it was a pretty good buy so if your a 1st timer as well I would recommend this. I didn't really know much about routers when I bought this and this one satisfies my needs I can connect my xbox laptop and other devices like iphones/ipods to it its really easy to setup so I give it a 5/5.

Most of the complaints I've seen for this router seem to involve the stock firmware, but with WW-DRT this is a great router. I'm getting full house coverage without issue so far.

Very easy setup. Turn off everything that would connect to it including the modem, connect all the wires, turn on the router, and then turn on the devices. Then connect to the internet. You will come across a screen that you can put a password in for security. Then you are all done. This is fast and very reliable. Do not hesitate, especially when it goes on sale. You will be very happy you did. I promise.

The RT-N16 does everything it claims to do and does it well. The default management software is good, but I replaced it with TomatoUSB to get some additional features.

Software is not the best; but if you know your way around routers, it is fine. I purchased it for the multi network in a single unit. We use multiple secure and unsecured networks in the same office so having a single box is great.

Best router I've ever owned.After installing a custom DD-WRT release, I like this router more and more, but even with the stock firmware, this is a great wireless router for the money.

I've owned several routers and this is one of the best. I have two of these actaully. I have one running DD-WRT, the other running stock firmware. Both just keep running and running and running. No issues to speak of.

I bought this exclusively for testing DD-WRT. It works great and boy, what a deal. I had difficulty putting it into repair / recovery mode to install DD-WRT, but I was able to use the firmware update tool pre-installed on the router instead.

I have two of the older version (RT-N12) of this model, one configured as a router and one configured as a repeater. They work quite well, but when I added the RT-N12/B as a second repeater, a couple of my devices had a hard time picking up a signal. When I disconnected the RT-N12/B, everything was fine. Now I have some weak spots in my house because of the loss of the second repeater, and this router is unplugged, sitting in a closet. I'll find another use for it, but it won't be as a second router.That said, if you're using this as a router or as a single repeater, you'll have a good experience. The web interface is a little clunky, but I have yet to see one in a consumer-grade router that isn't.

Got this to use as a wireless bridge not a router, haven't tested that functionality but as far as hardware goes it works perfectly as a bridge and costs the same if not less than other wireless N bridges that do not have the option to also act as a plain router as well.The asus firmware on this is just plain bad. It's designed to be very user friendly with a plug and play setup and it is very much so when it works. Put it on router mode and plug it into a PC and a set up guide for hooking the ISP comes up in the browser window(this really isn't necessary but would still be nice for the less tech savvy). Put it in repeater(bridge) mode and the web browser will pull up a UI to connect to a wireless network. Didn't try to access point mode since we already have a wireless router.I first set it up in repeater mode and the plug and play interface worked fine to connect to my network, the performance was great until I unplugged the ethernet to the laptop that I was setting it up on and connected back to the wireless network. The repeater function was slowing down the wireless to a speed of only 1mbps. And I could not turn off repeater function(leaving only the bridge functionality) despite disabling it in the routers configuration page. I updated the firmware hoping it would fix the problem but after doing so I could not get any of the plug and play or manual configurations to work to set up the repeater mode.After that I flashed DD-WRT(a linux based free router firmware) onto the router. The process was pleasantly simple you just needed to install the asus recovery program from the CD, put the router in recovery mode and then upload the dd-wrt download from that asus program(there was a browser based upload function as well but I couldn't get that to work). Setting the DD-WRT firmware up to act as a bridge was more complicated than installing it onto the router(it is linux based after all which is rarely simple, don't take that the wrong way I am posting from and use a linux distribution as my main operating system and dd-wrt is not any more complicated than the average router firmware).I'm now using it as a bridge running dd-wrt to use wireless N on my PS3 and other devices with only G or without their own wireless adapter and it is preforming flawlessly, I only wish it had an on/off button or switch to turn it off when not being used so I would not have to fiddle with the power cord in the back.

I replaced a 4-year-old dead/spotty router from Linksys with this one. Plug and play, it works just fine in my 2,500 ft2 home with multiple wireless devices. Netflix wireless to my TV works like a charm as well (about 50' away through 2 walls). I like the software that lets me disable internet access for my children's devices when they've been on too long.

Purchased this N-router (online from DataVision...also a good experience) after reading reviews for many manufacturers for months. One of the least expensive ones I found also! Have Comcast/Xfinity internet. Screwed on antennas. Plugged power adapter into the router, then into the power outlet. Clicked on View Available Wireless Networks in task tray of the computer and the Asus RT-N12/B was there. Put CD into drive, then followed prompts to setup new network name and secure the signal. Took maybe 10 minutes! Worked like a charm...without requiring a call to tech support, like so many people that purchased other makes of routers seemed to require. Haven't tested range outside, but works great inside a 1000 sg ft apartment with block walls. Computer is a Dell Latitude D630, running XP Pro SP3. Wireless signal showing 130 Mbps connection speed.

I've been reasonably happy with this purchase as a second WAP to my Comcast modem. I wanted to boost the signal to the bedroom so I bought a second one. Setting it up as a repeater wasn't very smooth but seemed to work. Within a week I unplugged it because it only made the internet work less frequently and more slowly than before.If I was judging it only on a WAP I'd give it 4 stars. Only on a repeater, 1 star. I rounded 2.5 -> 3

Before firmware update, I'd give Zero stars and have returned it. After, 5 stars and perfect. So be sure to update that firmware before you beat it to death a-la Office Space!

I purchased this router to load DD-WRT or TOMATO firmware and turn it into a Client Bridge so I could get Free Internet from our Subdivisions Clubhouse next door!I followed these basic instructions: [...]It works Perfectly! I purchased Larger Antennas and Now I TOTALLY ELIMINATED MY INTERNET BILL!!!THANK YOU!!! I have been using it for about 2 Months now and it is PERFECT!!!!!I LOVE IT!!!!

I purchased this product to be utilized as a repeater in conjunction with a "Surf Board" for more complete coverage in a relatively large home (about 4000 sq. ft.) As a software engineer with more than 25 years of experience in the embedded real-time arena, found that this device was probably not quite ready for formal product release as I was never able to get the device to work reliably in conjunction with the product's technical support team. The user interface was especially weak, with radio buttons that were not selectable, which according to the technical support team should have been. Almost closed my Amazon account as a result of the experience and as I have seen it start to show up on the shelves of my local "non-chain" vendors that I support, have cautioned them of my experience. I purchased the router/AP/repeater due to the incredible quality and range covered with just the Surf Board and the ASUS PCI 1X Wireless-N NIC. I cannot imagine how a company that produce such an incredible wireless-N NIC, especially in the PCI 1X form factor, could have produced such an incredibly poor product, apparently within the same family, but as a router/AP/repeater. It should be noted that the product worked superbly so long as it was attached to the RJ-45 Cable, but as soon as I disconnected it from the cable and placed it at a very high point on top of cabinetry, the performance was worse than with just the Surf Board Router/AP. All I can say is that I must have had a fundamental misunderstanding for what the product was intended for in the way of basic functions with the repeater switch set and fortunately Amazon accept my return and refunded my account promptly. I did spend about a week working on the device, reflashed the firmware with 2 different versions, but I really don't know what to say about the poor, basically, non-functional user interface, where with a device such as this one, you typically spend very little time with where you just "configure and go." Living in this user interface performing the same operations over and over again with the same result (definition of insanity), was just about more than I could bare. Based on the quality of their PCI 1X NIC, which I plan to purchase more of, I would expect them to eventually get this multi-mode much needed device in today's large homes ready for market--especially if they reassign members of the NIC team to the router/AP/repeater.

This router is so flexible, I cannot eve describe how useful it is. It can act as a small file server using an SD card. The cap on the router by default seems to cap my campus' usual 400Mb/s to about 10Mb/s on wifi, but you can change the settings. Using the ethernet ports, I get only a slight decrease in transfer speed.It has a massive span of reception. You can also adjust it.Be sure to use ddr wrt if you want to get the most out of this thing.

This is actually the router that most of the Tomato devs use. The stock firmware is really cheesy and hard to work with, but once you install a stable version of Tomato on it, life is great. It's fast, it's reliable and there's plenty of RAM for the option features. The CPU is quite fast and I actually use it to control my X10 devices around the house with some custom hardware.

When will companies learn. There is no need for a client app for router firmware updates. But if they make that their only way to upgrade firmware, than better make sure it runs on OS X, Linux. Because not everyone uses the turd that is Windows.Can't upgrade firmware using a Mac. Returning the product on general principle.
