Device works well, stock firmware is OK but really you should load DD-WRT on this to get the most out of it. Wireless speeds are what you would expect (not great, but that's par for the course with a non MIMO device).Cheap with no frills!

I bought the ASUS RT-N16 for installing custom firmware like tomato or ddwrt in it. The router brought some great stock firmware and it was very easy to install custom firmware on it. For the price the router performs greatly and has been running strong for months. Issues that I previously had with my previous router like port forwarding and upnp have been resolved and I can finally play in games with Open NAT.

Bought this to replace an old PC I was running an ipCop installation on. After trying to decide between another PC running pfSense and the Asus RT-N16 for a week I went with the Asus. I am very pleased. I had no trouble at all flashing the firmware and installing DD-WRT v2.6 on it. All the features I have tested work well and the router is very fast. With 128Mb of RAM and 32Mb of Flash RAM it can more than handle the 5+ PCs on the network constantly streaming, gaming and file sharing. Three external antennas leave a lot of options for customizing your WiFi coverage.Excellent choice for a home network. Runs a little warm so I suggest giving it a lot of room and/or a laptop cooler.

This router has been excellent. It offers a lot of choices and options. I would highly recommend it. The Asus Network printing works great with a Samsung ML-2010. Finally no more USB cable!

Resets kinda funky sometimes when you make changes but great features for the price. Makes sure to make backups of your settings, I had to use them once when it totally factory reset for some odd reason. That was early on and coud have been operator error.Would recommend to my friends

I was looking for another access point to increase signal strength to one side of my house. I ran across this device, which can also be used as a router or repeater by setting a switch on the back.Setup was simple: setting the switch to AP mode, plugging in a computer, and configuring any settings. Other than assigning a fixed IP address, I didn't have to do anything. WebUI is functional. I stayed with the stock firmware.Signal strength is excellent and I've had no issues. The only strange thing is that I cannot see the device as a client on my router's network map (Asus RT-N66U), but that's not really a problem.Given the low price and versatility, I'd recommend this, although my experience is limited to AP mode only.

I am tech-savvy software developer, and have no problems configuring and manipulating routers. This product was giving me less than 1Mbps download throughput with my laptop sitting directly adjacent to the router. I called Asus tech support, who reviewed by configuration and told me I had a defective unit. I ordered a replacement from Amazon, and had the exact same results. I again called Asus tech support (USELESS), who again reviewed my configuration, had me update the firmware on the router, and then again told me I had a defective unit. Quite a coincidence... I strongly suggest you avoid not only this model, but this brand.

This might be the best router for the price, but stay away if you're not comfortable updating firmware. Mine shipped with firmware that was way out of date and broken, refusing to even bring up the setup screen. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with ASUS and in the end was told to ship it back to Amazon. Not having a backup router I played around until I was able to get into the setup just long enough to update the stock firmware, and then put on Tomatousb.The router is working like a champ now, but I have to take off some stars for ASUS allowing it to go out with such broken firmware. I'm somewhat tech savvy and was able to fix it (after much frustration), but I wouldn't recommend the router to my grandparents...

After updating the dd-wrt firmware, the router works great so far. If you're concerned about the range, get another one as bridge! The setup is pretty easy.

For the money this device is hard to beat... I installed DD-WRT on it and it works like a champ as an AP.Havent tried in Router mode so cant tell you how it works as a main router... but the range is very good on it and installing the custom software is very easy.

Do not buy this item as an access point - it simply will not work. I tried two of these router / access points with same results. Purchased an access point at a competitor and no problems. Must be a software glitch.

I LOVE IT! I bought it mainly because my old router kept disconnecting from my wireless network but I love it because now I can print from either one of the laptops in my house, wirelessly. No more having to connect usb cables to my laptop(s) to print, it's the next best thing to buying an actual wireless printer.

I've owned several RT-N12's over time - the first one was bought after a fair amount of searching to find a device that would run as a wireless bridge in the house. It served very well in this role for quite some time, until I needed to use the device somewhere else for a totally different purpose. Since then, I have purchased at least 2 others for various projects.I had read that the device would run DD-WRT, and it does so very well. I have converted all the N12s that I have to run DD-WRT, and I cannot say anything but good things about the complete configuration as such. The device simply works, and can do an incredible amount of things in a small package. If there was anything that I wish that the device would do, it would be for it to have support in the 5GHz band, which it does not. Then again, I now only have one device left that supports 5GHz, so it is really no big loss for me.I have placed these units both at my house, as well as for business use, and the DD-WRT combination with the RT-N12 has proven itself in each and every configuration to be an excellent device, solid as a rock. As to the original firmware - it works, although it can be a little cryptic at times.Highly recommended if you don't need a 5GHz band for 802.11n. Even more so if you are willing to do the (fairly simple) task of running it with DD-WRT. Do however read the instructions for updating it to DD-WRT carefully...

This router's worked well, wasn't too hard to flash with dd-wrt, giving me much more control over the router. But it's only been up and running for about a month, so time will tell whether it performs solidly for the long run...

Like many, I wanted to exhaust connectivity options for my home theater gear (Panasonic plasma, Blu-Ray player, WDTV Live) before running ethernet cable in my walls, patching drywall, texturing and painting. Just before going the wired route, I bought the ASUS (RT-N10+) 150 for it's repeater mode. It's been weeks and I'm thinking this might be one of the best values out there.Setup was easy. The various mode options (router/bridge/repeater) are not only obvious but simple to configure. I'm using mine in Repeater mode which essentially rebroadcasts the wireless signal but the killer feature here is how the four ethernet ports are enabled and can be used to connect to non wifi enabled devices; my TV and BRD player. How cool is that?Regarding throughput, it seems to fall halfway between wireless G and Cat5e cable; much like N does but I think this might be better than embedded N in components. The higher end power line ethernet devices are likely still better but only in optimally wired homes which mine is not.Prior to using the ASUS, I was relying on the embedded wireless G on a Mac Mini to stream HD video from the embedded wireless N on a different and newer Mac Mini. Before rolling out the ASUS, I was limited to 720p and it was often choppy but now buffering has been nearly eliminated and streaming compressed 1080p video is now possible. Again, this setup still lacks the performance of wired but it's a winning compromise.Okay, now let's talk value. Many wifi adapters for flat panels and BRD players cost $80 and provide connectivity to one device each. The ASUS provides 4 ethernet ports which could save hundreds if one has a lot of components. I plan to eventually move to an internet capable AVR or surround processor/pre-amp and I won't need to concern myself with connectivity.It really does deserve 5 stars.

As an IT consultant I am always reviewing products based on the "Best Bang for the Buck". If you have more than three devices in your house than this unit is it. Very Good Wireless Range! Very Good options for filters! Pretty much a mindless setup. Plus the hardware can accept different OS's.

I have been continually frustrated with the Cisco/Linksys routers. The older models work so much better than the newer ones and are so much more dependable. In my search for a replacement for use in my IT business, I tried this model. It almost works right out of the box. There is a simple switch in the back to set the mode to access point, router or repeater instead of having to configure it in the interface. Once you plug it into the network, plug a computer or laptop into one of the ports and open a browser, the setup comes right up. There are 3 or 4 steps for basic setup and you are done. Accessing and setting advanced features is easy as well. I also think the antennas are still the way to go to get a better signal. Internal antennas are mutidirectional and can't be tweaked. Many wireless routers sit on top of or next to ISP modems, so you can also get some signal separation. I also like that it has the wall mounts holes on the bottom.I have found that signal strength is excellent and I have not had any issues with dropouts or sync issues with the ISP modem if there is a power outage or the ISP's service goes out. I have purchased several and have them in place as both routers and access points and will be setting one up at my house to supplement a poor wireless signal from my UVerse gateway.Price point is excellent, so it is a great value as well. I don't think you will be disappointed with this purchase.

I purchased this router based on the excellent reviews. I used the router as it came out of the box. I noticed that about every other day my Cable Modem would stop communicating with the router and would require a power cycle. Be aware that the router ships with an Asus firmware release that came out about 1.5 years ago. I updated the firmware to the latest Asus firmware for this router and have not had another problem. Router has now been running stable for 6 weeks with no modem hang ups.I'm a techie but have no desire to download other oem firmwares and zap the device as others are doing. I just wanted a better all around router then the Linksys routers that I have used in the past. Linksys used to be good, but the quality of their products are not what they used to be. Don't believe me just read the reviews. Now there are Linksys routers that have good reviews, but they cost close to $200. I just won't spend that kind of money on a router. Final price for this router after rebate was $65. An excellent deal for a high quality router.

Works well as a repeater - set up is almost automatic - I just needed to login to the webinterface, select the network I wanted to repeat and join it. In my case, because I use encryption .I just had to enter the router's password once (and never again even after restarts etc.). I did have a problem installing new firmware and had to restore that - the directions are extremely poor for this if you need to restore firmware see this tutorial - follow that and it's not hard - [...] restoration-win7 - those instructions work for this router and if you have a slightly different version of Windows, you can figure it out - Windows settings names and places might be slightly different.Overall, quite pleased.

About a year after I bought this the router crashed. Some kind of firmware bug made it not able to log in. Even after resetting it to stock and starting over. Flashed with a newer firmware and it's been rock solid since.Good range. Fast speed. Want another one.
