I have a linksys router which isnt wireless. theres no usb port on it. so i though, in all my wisdom, i could take this adapter, hook it into the ethernet port of the router then plug in the Sierra USB598 so i could have internet on both computers netwrorked thru the router.wrong.this is no relfection on the seller or the device.i'll keep it incase i lose my ethernet on one of my motherboards.wtf..

Nowadays if a computer can't hook up to the internet then it's worthless. I abandoned my wireless network for a more secure ethernet home network. I acquired an old computer that didn't have a working ethernet port. I already have several other computers, and so I didn't want to spend a lot of money to get this hooked up to the internet.This adapter was PERFECT!!! Easy to install on an 8 year old computer, and I was on the internet like a flash.I don't think it's as fast as a dedicated ethernet connection to the motherboard, but even with USB version 1 my connection speeds are fast enough that I can watch Youtube and download small files without really noticing the difference. Unless you're seriously into downloading gigantic files, this is a good gadget to breath new life into an old computer without spending a lot.I could have just bought a new USB 2.0 pci card for faster service, but I didn't want to spend that much on this old computer.

This was a great (and inexpensive) solution to get my Toshiba RS-TX20 DMS (Tivo Series 2 with latest (v9+) software) hooked-up to the home network and internet. BTW, I saw them @ Frys yesterday for $9.58!

I purchased this to connect the Wii to the internet. Easy plug and play and it works well. Not much of a review, it does what it says it would do and that's a good thing.

I bought this card as an addition to a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition computer I run at home as my network server. It does it all: NAT, DHCP, DNS, file server, print server, and domain controller. I also have it set up to be SQL Server and web server for my own experiments.It is true that I was able to install it by simply connecting the card in a PCI slot. The OS picked it up as new hardware and I was not even prompted for drivers.The problems became apparent later on: The card is hooked up to a 16-port switch that connects all of my computers. I had no trouble navigating the Internet on other computers, but it turns out that I was having a lot of intermittent problems accessing other Windows services. For example, one Vista laptop could not print all of the sudden. It could not even connect to the server to enumerate the file shares! Nothing helped, and my Vista desktop was having no issues connecting to the server. The next day the laptop was working just fine, being able to print and enumerate file shares.I was also having problems copying a 6 GB file from the server to my Vista desktop. Most of the time the copy operation would be interrupted for no good reason, and when I once or twice was able to copy the file, a SHA1 hash revealed it was corrupt.So, troubleshooting my problem I notice this: My Windows session on the server was being cut off suddenly during the file copy; nothing remained in the Windows event logs to help me out. After that, my Vista desktop was having intermittent problems reconnecting to the server. I looked up updated drivers (the driver I was using for this card came from Microsoft) in the TrendNet website and the problem was largely resolved, but not 100%. I have experienced the same problem once already with the new drivers. I just hope the problem will not appear that much anymore, but to be 100% honest, I would not buy this brand again, or at the very least I just won't recommend this particular product.One more thing to note: When they worked, the Microsoft drivers were able to sustain a rather constant feed of 260 Mbits/s while the updated drivers from the manufacturer oscillate a LOT between 290 and almost 0 MBits/s. True, the new drivers don't cut me off as the Microsoft driver did.

For my needs it worked perfectly. Admittedly I needed it for an unusual situation. I have an HP MediaSmart Server, which among it's many features, it can completely restore any client computer to an earlier backup date (it's worth it for this alone).Thus was the need for my daughter's computer. She had gotten a computer virus, so I decided to just restore to an earlier date. HP provides a 'Restore Client PC' CD for this. The problem was her computer has Vista 64 OS, and the restore software could not find the built-in Ethernet port. The restore CD is 32 bit, so the 64 bit drivers didn't work. I fussed with trying to locate 32bit drivers, to no avail.So, I bought this. Installed the drivers on a USB thumb drive, plugged it in and 5 minutes later I was restoring. Worked perfect first time.Bottom line is, it cost me $18, but saved hours of headaches.

At the moment I cannot get this product to work...bought it for my sis computer while visiting...and tried to install it only 1 day before I left (2 days ago)...so was unable to do a proper troubleshoot to see if it was indeed the item at fault.Will do an update .

I could never get the Vista driver to install properly. The one on the CD didn't work, the one on their website didn't either. The Realtek driver that installed itself automatically made my machine unstable. I called tech support and the lady hardly paid attention to my problem, and instead read from an annoying script as is what appears now standard for outsourced tech support.On the other side, even though Trendnet doesn't support Linux, it was plug and play and worked as expected in Fedora 9. So the open source Linux guys *without pay* made a better driver than Trendnet "engineers"? Unbelievable, I don't think I'd ever buy another Trendnet product.So if you're planning on using it in Vista, steer clear. However for other OSes it may work. Since I bought it to use in a Vista box, this one goes back to the store.

Not worth all the hassle testing and trying. It may work for some specific computer configuration. But it does not work with me Dell 1210 with XP SP2.

This item was purchased to upgrade an older Toshiba laptop having a 98 OS and no RJ45 port. The Toshiba meets/exceeds system requirements of this TRENDnet Adapter. I installed/verified the win98 driver according to the TRENDnet instructions and then tried to restart the laptop. The OS froze up completely. Nothing worked. I could not shut it down, or take any other action. Finally, I disconnected AC power and ran on the battery power until it was exhausted. Only then could I plug in AC and restart the laptop. I tried installing the TRENDnet driver 3 more times and had the very same result each time. I gave the unit 2 stars because of the very neat packaging and appearance of the unit. I will keep it in case one of my 2 other Toshibas(XP and Vista)developes a broadband connect problem.

I needed to dedicate my older laptop for the MagicJack I'd been using on my desktop, but the Ethernet port had been damaged. I found the wireless PCMCIA card to be much too slow (54Mbps) for the MagicJack to work properly. The TRENDnet card, along with a new Ethernet cable plugged into my wireless router, was a simple and inexpensive solution to get my laptop back online for my business calls.It just plugged in and Windows XP found its own driver for it, set itself correctly to 100Mbps and within a minute or so my old laptop was back online. I also did not use the included CD. It works fine without it.

Well, the price and construction of this adapter made it attractive to me, but when I got it, it wouldn't work with my half-sphere iMac (whose internal ethernet was fried by a power outage, but whose USB ports still work fine). After wrestling with the company's drivers and discovering that they don't have one for a Mac that works with this model of adapter, I gave up and ordered the more expensive Apple adapter.It turns out that the Apple adapter only works with the Airbook (and possibly with other computers running Mac OSX 10.5). So, as my son was pining away without the internet, I went back to the drawing board.After some futzing around, I did it. Here's how to make this adapter work with a Mac:1) Go to http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=121785and download version 1.0.9 of the driver you'll find there (you may have to do this on another computer and transfer it to the computer that doesn't have ethernet with a flash drive). UnZip the file, open the disk image, and click on the installation package, which is straighforward.2) Go to System Preferences:Network and wait a few moments for the system to find the new adapter. Then activate it by following the instructions (clicking on a button).Voila! It worked! My son was pleased, but not as impressed as I thought he should be with my accomplishment.So, this is a solid, functional, inexpensive adapter for those of you with older Macs who need to get around the loss of Ethernet functionality and are willing to jump through a couple of hoops.

Mac users beware -- this adaptor requires Windows-only drivers. The Linksys USB Ethernet adaptor is not as fast, but it works flawlessly right out of the box, no additional software:[...]Note to TRENDnet: "PC" is not a platform.

Pros:It's an ethernet to USB adapter. It does exactly what it's supposed to, and nothing more.Cons:The cable is WAY too long for most things.

I've had this gigabit Ethernet card for two years. It worked great until the card suddenly acted strange and then died. For the price, though, I would say that I've been satisfied with it. I was using it with WinXP.

The TRENDnet Gigabit PCI Adapter of the few network cards I'ved used that was recognized (though not at full speed) without installing drivers. However, you still need to install/download the latest drivers to get full Gigabit speed.Simple installation, good speed, performs as well as any of the other gigabit devices I have. It's Vista, XP, and Server 2003 compatible. Keep in mind that via PCI, your network speed can be limited by the PCI bus or mobo if you've got a cheap chipset.

I bought this to use with Macbook Airs, but my MBA is at home so I connected it to the front panel USB port of a Dual G5 running 10.5.6. A dialog stating that a new network port had been detected came up and asked if I wanted to configure it, which I did by copying the settings from built-in Ethernet. I switched the Ethernet cable and tested it by visiting a few websites, printing to an appletalk laser printer, and copying files to and from a local Leopard server. I'm not going to run any benchmarks, but I will say I could use this as my everyday NIC if the built-in Ethernet port stopped working. It comes with a CD that has drivers for Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 and Panther 10.3, which I did not test. It also comes with a Quick Install Guide for Windows, which directs you to the cd for Mac instructions, which you may need for Tiger or Panther.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, this card is slightly faster than my 100mb/s onboard nic. I copied a 4.7 gb iso file over from my NAS drive using the computer's onboard nic. It avg around 7.5-7.7 mb/sec. Then I installed the pcitxr gigabit card and it definately was faster, but it only went up to about 11mb/sec. I didn't expect 10x improvement, but was hoping for just 2x (think about it, 1000/100=10x).BTW, I'm running a dlink dgs-2208 gigabit switch between the computer and the nas if that matters.Update 6/14/10:The slow speed is due to the dlink NAS drive. I have a dlink 321 and 323. They are both slow and even though they are advertised as NAS with a gigabit interface, it will only average 8-11mb/sec. Some have seen 15mb/sec (I have), but that's not average.I've been running this nic card for about 1.5 years and it's been reliable. I'm updating the rating from 3 to a 5.I also noticed someone gave me a thumbs down on this posting saying it was not helpful. Well, I made a mistake and i found out why over a year ago, but I forgot this review until I stumbled upon it today. I guess I deserved that :).. Cheers!

I love this adapter! When I downgraded my machine from Vista to XP, the ethernet port didn't work and I couldn't find drivers for it so I bought this. It worked instantly and has worked ever since. No hassle - just quick, easy internet. Nothing could be easier.
