I had high hopes for this camera. It's gotten good reviews on photography websites, but my experience with it was surprisingly disappointing. The first photos taken looked great using the image viewer. So, I decided to use it for a friend's wedding anniversary party. It didn't take long to find out about the camera's poor low light performance even using manual settings, and the short-comings of the zoom. The worst part was the image distortion that made subjects look like they had been photographed using a fun-house mirror, i.e. long torso with short legs. Maybe my camera was a lemon, but this is the second Sony P&S I've tried that's had serious faults. There are other sub-$100 cameras that will perform better than this one. I do not recommend this camera.

Small. Light. Durable. long lasting battery. charges off phone chargers cable. great photos everytime. easy to use. great on the fly editing system. Hurst me to say all this i hate sony but i really cant say one thing bad with it. sorry

I've only had this little guy for a couple weeks, but I love it! It fits very easily in the palm of my hand and is portable without sacrificing quality. There are a ton of settings that I had to play around with first and I'm still getting the hang of it, but the pictures have great definition and color. I can't wait to travel with it!
Update: I've had this camera for over a year now and I still love it. While I end up taking more pictures with my smartphone for convenience now that I have one, the "soft face" setting on this Sony is still unbeatable for pictures of group outings!

All I have to say is that I am very pleased with my purchase of the camera and it works perfectly for me. I carry it with me wherever I go and have taken a ton of great pictures.

I got this camera as a birthday/Christmas gift and loved it! It has tons of features and a great zoom, which is what I really need for pictures of animals!
Con: Camera would not charge after about a month. I had to ship to the repair center ($10) and wait for it to come back (15 days total). Now it works great though, and they sent me 2 new chargers. (I had to call and ask for them)
Con: I can't figure out for to get video to my computer. The format that I am seeing the videos in is not recognized my by computer. So now I have a full SD card with videos that can only be watched from my camera and have yet to figure out a solution. I am hoping it is just user error!

As a professional photographer, I am pretty picky when it comes to cameras. I bought this for an upcoming trip, as I don't want to haul my DSLR all over Prague. I've only played with this camera for a few hours, but the photographs look awesome! I'm usually not a fan of "in camera effects", but I am loving some of the extras that this camera comes with. The only downside is that you have very little control over the settings, but the camera is smarter than even most professionals the majority of the time anyway. If you are looking for a camera that takes great pics and fits in your pocket. This is the one!

Bought for a vacation at the beach and took great pics, but not at first. Too Orange and surreal. Use the Easy mode. In this mode not great in low light but we did not do much at night anyway. Kids loved it. Takes great video too. Feels good in the hand. Decent build quality. No plastic. Only had it for two months will update later. Happy with purchase. Would buy again. Got the package deal with case and sim. Great deal for $100.

I purchased this specifically because I was looking for a point-and-shoot camera that would take decent pictures in low-light conditions. I've had it for less than a week now, but I'm already very impressed! I took some pictures in a dark room (with flash on) and I could see things better in the pictures than with my naked eyes! I also tried taking video at night, and it looks fantastic! The last camera I had was an Easyshare; That took decent pictures in bright light, but in low-light conditions it left much to be desired. This camera is so easy to use. I've used it on a tripod and free-hand...picture quality is equal because the Sony Cyber-shot has a photo stabilization feature. I REALLY like the USB photo transfer capability.

This is a 16.2 mega-pixel camera with 5x optical zoom. It also has video, panoramic photo capabilities, a timer, and a continuous photo option. We were looking for something to replace our Nikon point and shoot that just broke. The Sony Cyber-shot is a good middle of the line point and shoot camera. Pros: It takes good quality photos and is simple to learn to use. Although, the manual that came with the camera left a lot of necessary information out. After an online search, I was able to find a full manual for this camera that was much more helpful. Cons: The processing time (from the time you take the picture until it is ready to take another one) is quite lengthy. It doesn't come with an SD card so be prepared to purchase that also. Overall, a decent camera, just wished it operated a little faster.

This is my third Sony Cyber-shot, and every one has been impressive in terms of value, features, and performance. There is almost nothing this camera can't do well for it's size. The combination of the f2.6 Zeiss lens with the Exmor R CMOS sensor is great as it does exceptionally well in low lighting without the flash. Video quality is also excellent, and Sony's superb image stabilization is almost like having a tripod or a steadycam. This is also one of the only ultra compact cameras to feature stereo audio recording, which as a musician, is extremely helpful. Plus, you get all of the cool Sony features like the original and still the best sweep panorama, background defocus (for a DSLR-like shallow depth of field), and hand held twilight mode for extremely low light situations (I use this more than any other feature). I've compared this with my older HX9v (replaced by the HX20 and HX30) and performance is very similar, although the WX50 is a bit faster at processing. I'd say that unless you really need the extra zoom from the WX100 or 150 or the few extra features like WiFi or GPS on the HX20 or 30, the WX50 is perfect and an absolutely stunning value.

Takes terrific pictures, no matter what the weather conditions are like or how much light is on the subject. But the battery does not hold out for a long day's photography and it will fail you just as you find the shot of a lifetime!

This camera has many features that you would find in an expensive camera but at a reasonable price! Would definitely recommend for a novice photographer.

I haven't tried all the features yet, but the quality of pictures is outstanding, and the buttons are easy to use. It's so nice to have a dedicated video button so going back and forth is as simple as taking another picture, no scrolling through options to get to it. Also I like the fact that it zooms in on faces and auto-corrects unless you tell it not to. I use it to take pictures of kids and they come out great, even back-lit. The last good point to mention is that the charger has a USB port that plugs into a wall socket or into the computer or can be plugged into a car charger, just like a phone, so that's convenient. All these are steps up from my previous camera which I got about five years ago. What a difference from that one in quality and ease of use.

I bought the sony Cyber-shot to take with me while I'm living abroad, and so far it works great. Mind you, I'm not trying to take professional photos, just something to send back to my family and show them I'm alive and doing things.
The only problem I have had with the camera is that sometimes pictures are constantly blurry, even with the shortest shutter setting and resting it on a solid surface. But, I think this may be more a problem with the settings I changed than with the actual camera because it doesn't happen all the time. If you want to use the other settings, maybe do what I didn't and read the manual!

I absolutely love this little powerhouse of a camera!!! I have been looking for a camera that takes great pictures, small enough to pocket if need be and be able to learn how to use with the computer. This one fits just right in what I wanted in a camera. I can do more with the cyber-shot than I expected. Good little camera and for the price.... well that was even better ; )

I like the camera, still works in regular camera/picture taking mode, but the button that switches between panoramic (which I never even tried to use), still and movie no longer works. What's up with that!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I have to try to get it fixed, I suppose... YUCK.

This was actually an impulse purchase at a Big Box store, on the eve of a Saturday trip to the Penn Relays. I'll consider buying an additional battery for it, but am leaning toward returning it. Bottom line, the battery life was much poorer than I had anticipated, and I don't think there's much I can do short of dragging around spare batteries.
I already have, and am thrilled with, a Sony DSC-H70 and a spare battery which I purchased on this site. Unfortunately, it's not pocket friendly. The new DSC-WX50 looked like a more portable equivalent (16mp and 10x zoom), with the added benefit of Full HD 1080 video.
I didn't anticipate that the WX50's battery life would be this poor. I calculated that the battery life equated to 13 Full HD videos averaging about 4 minutes each, plus 20 still pictures and 2 panorama shots. That's 22 pics and less than 1 hour of HD video, total. Sorry, that's just not good enough, unless you're dragging a bag of batteries around. My DSC-H70 more than doubled that output on a single charge, and recently survived an all-day track meet on a single battery.
Full HD 1080/60i movies with the DSC-WX50 were consistently stunning, and superior to the 720p movies I took on the same date, under the same conditions, with my DSC-H70. If I do keep the DSC-WX50, it'll be for the movie quality. The WH50 gave incredible detail of each runner at the opposite end of the stadium, with almost no visible camera shake. The action from that distance wasn't as clear with the H70.
Pictures were better on the DSC-H70. The DSC-WX50's pictures were good at first glance. But when loaded and viewed on a large monitor, they were disappointingly fuzzy on faraway details, both in smart/intelligent/auto mode and in landscape mode. My guess is that the H70's G-series lens is superior, because the detail is better with the H70.

I am pleased all round with this purchase.
Firstly I like the software which came loaded on the camera. After an automatic update from the website I have software which works with the camera well and also allowed me to register my camcorder and use the same software.
The camera works great. It fires up quickly so I can take photos quickly.
I have used a Sony DSC-P8 for some years and been very pleased with the results. However it was large by modern standards and only 3.2Mpixels.
The WX50 is much smaller and fits into my shirt pocket easily. The photos are fine and compare well with the P8. The only complaint I have is that the zoom is too quick and difficult to control accurately.

Haven't used it, as is meant for a trip overseas we're taking soon. The ratings on this camera were found to be excellent on more than one site for it's review, which for us, means it's worthy. Cost was a factor too, and the Cyber Shot is well within our budget limits. When comparing this to other small camera's at Best Buy & Costso, the value is evident as competitor camera's range to be about 30-50% higher in price. Am not very tech savvy so ease of use was important, and this camera fits this need.
