I own the 1TB version of this drive. So far I have flown with it five times in international flights and I have suffered no ill problems. I also stuck it in my sink to test the waterproof claims, and had no issues either. (The flap covering the USB input is a little iffy, however it kept water out of the port, so that was good enough for me.)Right off the bat, I was a little disappointed in the sheer size of this portable drive. It's much larger than regular 2.5" external portables, however the build quality was much better. I feel like I could drop the drive (which I have no intention of doing) and it would suffer very little. Other drives would shatter- I have a WD 1TB Portable, and I am able to crack the case open and remove the drive in less than ten seconds. Not that great. The speeds for this drive are blazing fast, in both USB 3.0 and even 2.0 slots. I use the drive to back up photos and movies I have shot while I am out traveling, and wanted to ensure that my photos/videos would be protected and backed up in multiple areas (my laptop, on the camera itself and a durable external). So far this has not disappointed, and I have plenty of space in the 1TB capacity option that I've had no issues storing even my entire photo folder (13 years worth of photography) comfortably inside as an entire mobile backup. The price is high for this item, but trust me that the increase in price is well worth the build quality in comparison to other external drives you would purchase. Their flimsy plastic cases have NO seals whatsoever to protect from any liquid spills, and with several hundred gigabytes of data, you don't want to take that sort of risk, right?

When I saw this product, I liked what I was seeing. I love the space of this hard drive, how tough it could stand just about anything, and that I could use the USB 3.0. I purchased this product three months ago, and everything was working well until last week. All of a sudden, I could not gain access to my files that I stored on this hard drive. The hard drive receive power, and I can hear the hard drive working well. Also, my computer recognizes the hard drive and says that it works properly, yet I can't gain access to my files on my hard drive. I have everything within my power to find a solution to fix this issue: I have plugged it to other computers, changed features on my computers, asked another person who computers well to solve this issue, and try to look on the company's website for contact phone numbers. This company has a VERY poor customer service. I have been on the company's website, and I can't find anything to help me.I am not giving up trying to revive this hard drive. I paid good money for something that I believed would be high-quality and durable for a long time. From reading the reviews of others who rated this product to one-star, I noticed that the USB cables are pretty awful. I started to notice this issue today when I notice my long USB cable would connect for an instant under my "My Computer" section. I may test this cable to see if these USB cables are the reason why I can't gain access to my files on my hard drive. If that is the case, I shall buy another third party USB cable.I am not going to say not to purchase it because I need to be sure that I know what exactly the problem is; however, I think that anyone on the fence in wanting to purchase this product should wait and do some research more. I think that this hard drive has HUGE potential, but I must figure exactly what the problem is to ensure that I know that it can achieve its potential that I want it to achieve.

Reading the reviews prior to purchasing this hard drive I saw some of the (1) stars had issues with the hard drive crashing on them. I weighted the risk based on the limited number of clients that purchased this hard drive, and decided to take my chances. My plan was to use this as a travel hard drive and to move all the content from this drive to another external drive once I arrived back in my office / home. For the most part I did this, except I had about 3 events back to back and put off transferring the content since the hard drive was flawless the first couple of months. Well, suddenly this weekend the hard drive took a dump. There was no physical damage done to the hard drive to cause this type of failure. I can only point the finger at a solid build and well protected hard drive from physical damage, but lacks the quality to ensure data errors don't cause the Hard Drive to quit reading.I have tried the hard drive on several machines, it's toast. I had to pay $99 for a software that recoveries the files on the hard drive. Currently, the majority of the files are being recovered, however the name of the file changes and thus causes additional head ache. I would strongly recommend passing up on this hard drive. I have written the company but have yet to hear back from them. There is a 3 year warranty so at the very least I will return it to Amazon if the company doesn't reply. I would want to be refunded my purchase price plus the cost to recovery my files, but we know that won't happen. I wouldn't accept a exchange for a new hard drive of the same make and model, since as mentioned it works fine for the first couple of months, and then out of the blue decides to quit on you. Not the reliability I want with my files.Once again, strongly recommend you pass on this hard drive and find another one with a lot of 5 / 4 star ratings and as close to zero negative reviews about crashing. Learn from my mistake and pass on this one, or accept you will be paying additional costs to try to recover your files in a few months.

Bought this drive as a mobile file transfer and backup solution, and it certainly hits all the bullseyes in that capacity. First, the enclosure is entirely matte anodized aluminum, not the combination of plastic or rubber that I initially thought. This means it is quite substantial, but still light, and seems like it can take some abuse during travel (I hope so, given what it is sold as). Next, the drive inside is essentially silent with only a slight humming vibration when placed on a hard surface. Where the "rubber meets the road," it transfers files very fast. Much faster than my Seagate-based, AC-powered USB3.0 externals! This comparison to my other USB3 externals brings up the only negative about the drive, and why I docked it 1 star - the included USB 3.0 cables! Shown in the images is the very tiny (3 inch?) cable that fits into the slot on the outside. This little one is great next to laptops or anywhere you have a hub or easily accessible port, but for my big desktop, I needed to dig into the box for the (also included) 20-something inch cable. Can't use my other USB 3.0 cables because this drive has the same connector as most host devices (Type A - the big ones), while most other devices use an A-B cable, with the smaller "B" connector going to the device. At least I don't need to worry about which end is up!With that as the only negative, I think this is a great 1TB bus-powered drive for the money, and the ruggedness is a bonus. I won't be throwing it into a lake or dropping it from a moving car to test that out, but it's nice to not have to think about it.

During the Winter Holidays I broke my old portable hard drive by letting it fall from a table. It fell about 3 feet and landed on a hard, tile floor surface. That's when I started looking for portable hard drives with extra protection. I was so excited when I discovered this Silicon Power drive. When I got the drive, I was satisfied but I thought both of the cords that came with it weren't long enough ... but that wasnt a big issue for me at all. What is an issue for me is that the drive broke after two months of having it. I had my drive placed on a small table. The table was no more than 2 feet high. The drive slid off the table and landed on the soft, carpeted floor. It wasn't thrown on the floor. Someone was trying to move the table over a few inches and it just slid. The fall was so small that I didn't even think to check to see if my drive was broken. 30 minutes later when I wanted to transfer some files over to another computer, that's when I noticed it was broken! While the drive did fall, the reason I am upset is because:1. This hard drive's selling point is that it can withstand small drops and falls. It should not have died after THAT fall. If it fell on a hard surface, or maybe from 4 ft, I would not be writing this review. But that is not the case.______________________________Edit: Hi Everyone! I forgot that I even left this review. Now that a few months have passed, I'll leave an update to help people who are looking to buy portable hard drives in general.1. The drive WASNT in use when it broke. I had it sitting on a little coffee table in the living room. My friend moved the table a few inches and it fell. It happens.2. After this drive broke, I bought a regular ole Western Digital drive and a cheap little case (http://www.amazon.com/Merkury-Innovations-Nintendo-DSi-Slim-Hardshell/dp/B004UC4YVK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354649478&sr=8-1&keywords=merkury+case+nintendo+ds) and to my surprise, I didn't break it! OMG! lol.If you're going to buy a portable hard drive, I suggest getting a case. If I would have bought a case for the Silicon Power drive, it may have lasted longer. The reason I left the review was because I thought it was strange that it broke after falling on carpet from a distance that wasn't so high. It was advertised (and it even appeared) as a device that could withstand more.

Ужасно

So far satisfied with this drive. The Silicon Power Armor A80 has met its advertised promise so far. I have not checked its strength by doing any drop test on it (It seems unnecessary at this point). But as far as its speed and storage capacity it is right on as promised.I have a little bone to pick with about the Armor A80. It is in reference to the short cable and the scant instructions/information available with the unit. I have ordered two of these drives. The short cable comes twisted, something that looks odd. Well both units have been the same way. I don't know if it is that the short cable is intended for USB2.0 or what is the issue with it. But in any event twisting this short cable does not show it to be durable. This short cable is one of the features that make this drive appealing. With the twisting going on once damaged and no way to get another one is a bit of a dead end owning an Armor A80. This part makes me hesitate a little about the Armor A80.I have searched in Silicon Power website and even emailed them about ordering an extra cable. There is no response back. (The Silicon Power USA seems to be a whole different company which disclaims involvement with the 1TB units).Lastly is the amusing part that whenever trying to download the SP Widget software the link leads to an offer of CIALIS. Wow!!!! It has been surprising to find out that Silicon Power is into Pharmaceuticals too :).These units are not cheap in anyway. The price is among the highest seen online. So it is prudent to get more information with the units or online, about instructions, ordering or support. After all, I am satisfied with my Armor A80 and will order it again. The above ranting is more intended to make the distributor or manufacturer provide better support.

This drive is a wee bit different in appearance from the photo displayed on the Amazon page: the monitor light is red, not blue. That's really neither here nor there, but here's a something you do need to know. I was growing untrustworthy of a 750gb drive which was already 99% full anyway, so I bought this drive. Right away I started getting errors that this file or that was too large for the new drive. WTF? A little googling and investigating revealed the problem: the drive came formatted for the old FAT32 system which has maximum file sizes. As someone who shoots photos in RAW which are 12Mb big when shot on a 12Mb camera, and who also does a little video, the file size limitations prevented a lot of data from being transferred. While the drive looks tough (and probably is) the first thing you should is reformat it to NTFS, the more modern file system which tolerates large files. It's simple and quick, but save yourself some grief: do it before you start putting data on it.I haven't used the drive long enough to give it 5 stars, but I gave it 3 stars for the rather dumb idea of formatting it FAT32, forcing many of us to reformat the drive.
