Hi, So I have written precious few reviews at Amazon, and only when I am thoroughly amazed by a product, in both a positive and a negative way. In this case, its the first. Definitely the first. I wont even go into the "1TB capacity in such a small module + USB 3.0 BLAH BLAH BLAH", there are lots of these drives nowadays. I was myself torn between this, A samsung M2 1TB USB3.0 at newegg(100$), LaCie Rikiki Superspeed 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive 301952 (Black) for 118$, Buffalo Technology MiniStation Stealth 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive HD-PCT1TU3/BB (Black) for 112$. Obviously, the A80 was losing, its atleast 20$ more than all the competitive drives. Or so i thought. Because see, I dont go for features, I go by what I need, what would benefit me, something I would pay for. I didnt need military grade protection, since the last 6years, I have ownned 2 Transcend drives(160GB&320GB, rubber casing, very durable, etc), 1 WD Passport 500GB, 1 WD Passport SE 250GB, 1 WD Elements 2TB Desktop HDD and I have never dropped/destroyed any of them. No issues with any of them. So of course, I didnt need to pay for something I would never need.My requirements were:1.1TB2.Good construction, preferably Aluminium(One wants to be a bit safe).3.Cables not coming out,etc-My room-mate has a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1 TB USB 3.0 Ultra-Portable External Hard Drive in Black STAA1000101, and GAWDALMIGHTY, that thing frustrates me to no extent!!!!!!! The cable does not fit in the socket well, and if I move the drive even a bit, the drive gets unmounted from my laptop, data loss, crashing, frustration, swearing, drinking, etc, etc..4. Fast. I will explain this later.5. International Warranty, and good record with it: I am a frequent international traveller, for extended durations. ->V.IMP.So I started out verifying the warranty first: WD has it, Seagate/Samsung has it, Lacie has it, Buffalo doesnt-so out, SP has it.Samsung was plastic(only con), else Samsung was my no.1 choice for a long time(Gr8 price!)The Rikiki had a lot of reviews about the cable coming off, I didnt want to take chances.Anyways, it was either the SP or the Samsung. I took the leap and got the SP-> 28$ over the Samsung, for the "Military Grade protection". i dont know what made me decide, maybe it looked better, I am partial to blue, maybe its the huge number of positive reviews of Silicon Power, maybe its my distrust of Seagate(Samsung's partner, I m negatively partial to Seagate, even though I love Samsung).when it came in(just 1 day delivery, evidently it shipped from just 100 miles from my home lol :P), heres what I found out.1."military grade protection" test- Dropped it twice on the carpet from 5ft, twice on the floor from 4ft(once flat on its face, once in a horizontal trajectory, like falling out of my pocket. Result->Nothing. Zilch. Nada. No dents, scratches, parts flying out, etc. Now here is when I pop in my opinion of the construction. Full aluminium. Rubber seals on both sides. Waterproofed USB3 port, Cable on other side. No give, no bends, smooth pure blue aluminium. God I love how it feels.Anyways, I digress.2. "Waterproof test"- Dropped it in the sink, turned on the water directly over it, waited till it filled up. Took it out, wiped it, opened the USB3 port, popped it in the laptop. worked perfect.Note:Just to spice things up a bit, here I mention that on the second drop, the rubber seal on one side popped out a bit in the middle, I didnt notice it, and did the water test on top of it. It survived. Without a hiccup.3. Speed test:Formatted to NTFS, transferred a 5.5GB file- got 78-98 MBps( The speed is lower on the inner parts of the cylinder). then I benched it on ATTO disc benchmark, a standard benchmark tool. Got 110/110 MBps on sequential read/write.I tested my roomies' Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1 TB USB 3.0 Ultra-Portable External Hard Drive in Black STAA1000101, got 77/76(NTFS formatted). So here you see what I mean by my 4th requirement, both are USB3.0, but my drive is almost 50% faster than his. Now I am glad that I didnt get the Samsung(Seagate :P)I also tested my year old Western Digital My Passport Essential 250 GB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive (Midnight Black), got 35/33 MBps Read /write- To show what the difference is between USB2 and USB3.4. Package contents/ Ease of use, etc: The package had the drive and a quick start drive, along with a short and a long cable. Pretty standard. I like the additional cable, but i really like the integrated cable, cables can be so easy to lose, break, get chewed on , etc etc...No software included, none needed infact, and i dont like bloat. but from the website, you can download a backup utility called SPWidget (havent tested it out yet, maybe i will sometime) and an utility for password reset when you lock this drive in Windows 7. Both are quite neat, and appear non-intrusive. Meh, I dont need them now.....Anyhow, if you havent got the gist of it till now from my review, i

Well...I dont know if I can officially call it an upgrade, being that I own a few Seagate drives and have never had a problem with any of them. But this drive is neck and neck with my Seagates.I love the color. It's the same color as my old motorcycle. Looks great along side a Macbook (which also was the same color of my bike....ok....ill stop now.)I was worried this drive would be a bit too heft because of the added real estate for the additional hidden wire, but it really is not a problem. And it's also not as thick as I thought it was going to be. It is still bigger than my GoFlex, but since it has about 650 more GB than my GoFlex, I wont complain. Also, the 'hidden wire' seems to stick out a little bit. I can never seem to get it fully hidden in the wire storage area, but its not enough to be annoying.I am very careful with my electronics, so I dont plan on dropping or spilling anything on it, so I didn't really care so much for the military specs. More so than anything, I needed a 1TB drive that was small, and I loved the fact that it had the integrated wire that can be stored. I was going to go with the BUFFALO MiniStation Extreme 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - HD-PZ1U3R Red but after watching some YouTube videos, I didn't like how loose the wiring looked.Which brings me to reason 2.I have never owned a USB 3 drive, but I have worked with house wide networking and audio / video installations for many years and for some reason, the new USB 3 connector just do not look that sturdy to me. And a lot of reviews confirm this by claims of even just remotely tapping anywhere near a USB 3 device causes it to lose connection with the host. This is the only USB 3 drive with 2 identical male USB connectors on it, which are very secure and sturdy. The wire itself may not be standard, but I like it better than the new USB 3 cables. One other thing I definitely want to mention is how slippery the outter coating on this drive is! It's almost as though they 'want' you to drop it just to prove how sturdy it is. I about to sand it down just to make it easier to grip with my hands.I almost dropped it about 3 times within the first 20 minutes after opening it. So be careful when handling this.I still have yet to actually use the USB 3 speeds as I dont currently have a card that supports it, but I have used USB 2 and I can say that even that seems faster with this drive.Overall, I recommend this awesome truly portable drive!***UPDATE 08/30/2012I still have yet to see the full potential of this drive as I do not have a fully functional USB 3 card as of yet. However, I did wind up purchasing a ExpressCard 34mm to USB 3.0 Adapter 5Gbps w/ External Power Port for my Macbook. Although I did get it to work (check out my review on the products page), the speeds were not that great.I since then purchased a Uspeed PCI-E to USB 3.0 Express Card with 2 USB 3.0 standard Ports and 1 USB 3.0 20-pin Connector with Male Power Connector for my desktop PC, so I will let you know how it turns out once I get it installed.***UPDATE 08/31/12So here are some speed results using my USB 3 PCI card (Windows):Simple test was run copying a 2.18GB file over to the drive34 seconds using the USB 3.0 PCI card1:29 USB using the internal motherboard's USB 2.0****UPDATED 9/1/12Another thing I forgot to mention that makes thing thing stand above the rest...THIS DRIVE DOESNT GET HOT EVEN AFTER COPYING 100s OF GB WORTH OF FILES ONTO IT.Truly amazing how it stays cool to the touch after all of that work.My Seagate FreeAgent Go Pro for Mac 500 GB 7200RPM Firewire/USB Drive gets so hot after copying only a few files over to it that I cant even touch it. I actually have to prop it up in the air because I am afraid it is going to catch on fire. But maybe that is because it is a 7200 RPM drive..???***UPDATED 10/2I am loving this drive! The wire being embedded in the unit is such a god send. It saves me the trouble of having to carry around extra wires or sort through a bunch of wires to find the right one.The only thing I wish is that the case held the wire in better. After a month of use, the wire case is losing its grip with the wire. It is starting to fall out into my bag at times. It would have been great if they had a little handle that you could flip up to hold the wire in. Also, the wire is very small which is a bit annoying. It is flexible, but I never flex it around because then it really wont stay in the casing.

Великолепно
