Well...I dont know if I can officially call it an upgrade, being that I own a few Seagate drives and have never had a problem with any of them. But this drive is neck and neck with my Seagates.I love the color. It's the same color as my old motorcycle. Looks great along side a Macbook (which also was the same color of my bike....ok....ill stop now.)I was worried this drive would be a bit too heft because of the added real estate for the additional hidden wire, but it really is not a problem. And it's also not as thick as I thought it was going to be. It is still bigger than my GoFlex, but since it has about 650 more GB than my GoFlex, I wont complain. Also, the 'hidden wire' seems to stick out a little bit. I can never seem to get it fully hidden in the wire storage area, but its not enough to be annoying.I am very careful with my electronics, so I dont plan on dropping or spilling anything on it, so I didn't really care so much for the military specs. More so than anything, I needed a 1TB drive that was small, and I loved the fact that it had the integrated wire that can be stored. I was going to go with the BUFFALO MiniStation Extreme 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - HD-PZ1U3R Red but after watching some YouTube videos, I didn't like how loose the wiring looked.Which brings me to reason 2.I have never owned a USB 3 drive, but I have worked with house wide networking and audio / video installations for many years and for some reason, the new USB 3 connector just do not look that sturdy to me. And a lot of reviews confirm this by claims of even just remotely tapping anywhere near a USB 3 device causes it to lose connection with the host. This is the only USB 3 drive with 2 identical male USB connectors on it, which are very secure and sturdy. The wire itself may not be standard, but I like it better than the new USB 3 cables. One other thing I definitely want to mention is how slippery the outter coating on this drive is! It's almost as though they 'want' you to drop it just to prove how sturdy it is. I about to sand it down just to make it easier to grip with my hands.I almost dropped it about 3 times within the first 20 minutes after opening it. So be careful when handling this.I still have yet to actually use the USB 3 speeds as I dont currently have a card that supports it, but I have used USB 2 and I can say that even that seems faster with this drive.Overall, I recommend this awesome truly portable drive!***UPDATE 08/30/2012I still have yet to see the full potential of this drive as I do not have a fully functional USB 3 card as of yet. However, I did wind up purchasing a ExpressCard 34mm to USB 3.0 Adapter 5Gbps w/ External Power Port for my Macbook. Although I did get it to work (check out my review on the products page), the speeds were not that great.I since then purchased a Uspeed PCI-E to USB 3.0 Express Card with 2 USB 3.0 standard Ports and 1 USB 3.0 20-pin Connector with Male Power Connector for my desktop PC, so I will let you know how it turns out once I get it installed.***UPDATE 08/31/12So here are some speed results using my USB 3 PCI card (Windows):Simple test was run copying a 2.18GB file over to the drive34 seconds using the USB 3.0 PCI card1:29 USB using the internal motherboard's USB 2.0****UPDATED 9/1/12Another thing I forgot to mention that makes thing thing stand above the rest...THIS DRIVE DOESNT GET HOT EVEN AFTER COPYING 100s OF GB WORTH OF FILES ONTO IT.Truly amazing how it stays cool to the touch after all of that work.My Seagate FreeAgent Go Pro for Mac 500 GB 7200RPM Firewire/USB Drive gets so hot after copying only a few files over to it that I cant even touch it. I actually have to prop it up in the air because I am afraid it is going to catch on fire. But maybe that is because it is a 7200 RPM drive..???***UPDATED 10/2I am loving this drive! The wire being embedded in the unit is such a god send. It saves me the trouble of having to carry around extra wires or sort through a bunch of wires to find the right one.The only thing I wish is that the case held the wire in better. After a month of use, the wire case is losing its grip with the wire. It is starting to fall out into my bag at times. It would have been great if they had a little handle that you could flip up to hold the wire in. Also, the wire is very small which is a bit annoying. It is flexible, but I never flex it around because then it really wont stay in the casing.

I only recently became aware of the 'Silicon Power' brand of hard drives when I happened upon an excellent review on their model 'Armor 80' (A80). After reading several other great reviews I decided to order one.I chose the A80 750 GiG model to benchmark (using CrystalDiskMark and AS SSD software). I currently own the very popular Western Digital 'My Passport' 750 GiG unit, so this will be a heads-up, apples-to-apples comparison (both are 5400 RPM drives).Sequential read speed: WD My Passport 86.27 MB/s, the SP A80 106.20 MB/sSequential write speed: WD My Passport 85.95 MB/s, the SP A80 105.21 MB/s4K read speed: the WD My Passport 0.437 MB/s, the SP A80 0.550 MB/s4K write speed: the WD My Passport 1.394 MB/s, the SP A80 1.929 MB/sCopying a 500 MB file: the WD My Passport 29.76 seconds, the SP A80 26.97 secondsPerformance wise, the Silicon Power A80 bested the Western Digital 'My Passport' in every category I tested (I ran each test three times and posted the best numbers for each drive). Just for comparison, I have a Hitachi 2.5" 7200 RPM 750 GiG drive installed in an after-market USB 3.0 case and its performance is equal to, but not better than, the Silicon Power A80.Additionally, the SP A80 comes with two USB cables: one is 31" long and the other is a short 4.25" -- but, it stores in a neat little compartment in the side of the drive itself so it is very handy when traveling or for use with a laptop on a table or desk.Construction: the case of the WD is all plastic (but very nice). The case of the SP A80 is anodized (blue) aluminum and is also water and drop resistant (it is of military-grade construction). Both are attractive.Size may be a consideration for some. The SP A80 (5.50" x 3.75" x 0.75") is larger than the WD (4.35" x 3.30" x 0.71"). I was not able to find a carrying case locally that would fit the SP A80. The WD easily fit into a middle-sized Case Logic case.Bottom line: both are very good drives. The Silicon Power wins the performance race and also the ruggedness-of-construction race. Western Digital wins the 'more compact size' race.Price: At the time of this writing, the SP A80 750 GiG drive is selling for $89.36 (I got mine for $74.99 just a week ago). The Western Digital 750 GiG is going for $75.99. Both are very good drives.I give the Silicon Power A80 a five star rating and would recommend it to friends.

It was encouraging to open the package and actually hold this drive in my hand. It is compact, about the size of a language phrase book and flat enough that you could unobtrusively carry it in a pocket of your jacket or your cargo pants. There is a short USB cable nested into the side of the drive which is a great convenience. It has a little heft, but nothing unusual, especially for a 750 GB external drive. However, the best thing about it was with the metal casing and flat, simple profile. You can physically sense that this thing can take a certain amount of beating. Protected by a waterproof bag, I would have no problem carrying this in a climbing or hiking camera pack if I had to.I have traveled many thousands of miles with this drive and it has been dropped, shaken and stirred. It has been subject to very high temperatures and has not failed to work. I don't intentionally abuse it any more than I would any other drive, I'm just significantly less concerned about it if it does face some physical challenges. Several years ago, a different plastic case drive I was carrying in my camera bag took a direct hit (within the bag) from the end of a 2x4 someone was carrying on a bicycle. Although it survived, I was sick with concern for most of the day that it was damaged and I had lost important data. That concern simply ruined the day until I could confirm that the drive still worked. With the "Silicon Power Rugged Armor Drive" I would not have been nearly as concerned with the exact same hit and in fact, I believe I would have been grateful that it provided a barrier to protect the camera! As others have reported, the speed is great, better than any other drive I have, but I did not actually measure it, so I don't know how much faster it is.I bought it primarily to store digital video images while I am travelling. Usually I will back up these images to another drive just in case one fails or is stolen. I always keep them separated with different members of our party because things "go missing" all the time, especially in third world airports and hotels. You really can't go back and reshoot many things if you lose your digital footage. I bought a second one of these (a 500GB one) and between the two of them and a comprehensive backup strategy, I am confident our footage will make it safely back home. Believe me, that is a huge concern. If I need more storage, I will buy this product again.

My Product Review and Photo's published @ UMLan dot Com! Check it out for more Details! Enjoy!Today, we have a product that we can compare ruggedness with the hummer in its unique tests. It is portable, small, and a beast to most people that are familiar with the HDD storage market. In this competitive market, the product does stand out from the rest because of its proven features. This little beast can endure water and physical abuse, where many just can't. UMLan would to thank Silicon Power for providing their all enduring show off portable hard drive which consists of a traditional 2.5" 9.5mm 1TB hard drive inside, they call this little beast the Silicon-Power Armor A80.Most of us say "Eh..." Some of us say "Wow!" well let me break down some cool little features for some of you. As many and most enclosures, they are all the same, "True!" but what can't the rest do?! Most of us purchase HDD enclosures by design, features, and how cheap the enclosures are compared to in pricing. They all do the same but some may show differentials in Transfer Speeds and Design, the Armor A80 states one question and directly states it is a small battle tank, UMLan would like to Thank Silicon-Power for providing us the opportunity to test and try out the product, let's check out the details and performance tests. The benching software used are ATTO, CrystalDiskMark, HD TACH, and HD Tune Pro which has been included. ATTO benched @ 2GB file size, CrystalDiskMark @ 4GB file size, HDTACH @ 1GB file size, and HDTUNE PRO @ 40GB file size. Overall benchmarks resulted in the same average score and stability for most USB 3.0 transfer speeds, the sequential read and write levels @ 116/112 MB/s, Random 512KB read and write levels @ 36/39 MB/s, Random 4KB read and write @ 0.4/0.7 MB/s, and Random 4K + Queue Dept of 32 read and write for NCQ and AHCI levels @ 0.49/0.70 MB/s. Adding this storage device to my collection, I see that the Silicon Power Armor A80 can perform stably amongst most other portable hard drives in the market with a strong punch by adding additional rugged support for security during accidental physical and abusive damages even from liquid.Currently I am working on an introduction test video to reveal the Silicon Power Armor A80 Portable Hard Drive, the video will introduce to the product in addition to multiple endurance tests, physically abused!! Stay tuned!!!The Silicon Power Armor A80 1TB portable hard drive is just like all others in the market with additional rugged support regardless of being kicked around, drowned, and fully neglected. Through these overall abusive tests, the Armor A80 can certainly endure the wrath of my physical tests as you will see in the coming video. The overall performance resulted in transfer speeds relatively similiar and respected just like most others. Silicon Power uses the Asmedia AS1051 processor, which we can usually tell by now a days, those that are unfamiliar with Asmedia, they are one of the first few USB 3.0 chipset certified manufacturers in this technology. The overall design of this unit is fairly sleek, ergonomic, and holds a solid quality feel to the Armor A80. Today we thank Silicon Power again for sending over proof of what this portable hard drive can do as well as securing our data for the rest of our lives. Now, it all just depends on when the HDD will EOL, not the Armor A80's tough and rugged protective casing. UMLan would like to provide the Silicon Power Armor A80 portable hard drive a score of 9/10 for the following pro's and con's listed below.

It's a Western Digital 5400RPM Scorpio Blue drive in a strong metal enclosure with engineered shock mounts and immersion resistance tested at 3 feet.In general, portable drive enclosures come in two varieties:1. Metal construction for good heat dissipation, but with the drive rigidly mounted to the enclosure. The slightest shock while running, such as a drop from 1/4", can destroy a drive mounted in such an enclosure. When not running, a drive mounted rigidly in an enclosure cannot take a 6" drop to a hard surface.2. A sealed plastic enclosure with shock mounts, at the expense of heat dissipation and re-usability.At a very reasonable price, you can now have a drive mounted in a metal enclosure with good heat dissipation that can accept minor jostling while running, and large ones when not running. The result does not have the mechanical shock resistance of flash media, but is far more durable with respect to write-life.The interface chip is by JMicron. This is the only touchy part. With some USB 2.0 controllers, the JMicron chip causes the host USB software to misinterpret the connection topology. Under Windows 7, the "Safely remove device" widget may incorrectly report the location of the A80 drive. In the case of a DLink USB 2.0 hub, the hub would not re-recognize the drive once removed and reinserted, until the hub was unplugged and replugged. The combination of a "Transcend USB 3.0 Express Card Adapter for Laptop TS-PNU3" was glitch-free, and provided large block transfer rates of ~90MB/s into a Lenovo laptop. Very high throughputs of 50MB/s were also noted with the USB 2.0 ports of a Lenovo X61, the fastest I have ever seen. Some reviewers have expressed disappointment that their drives have failed. This enclosure protects a drive to about the same degree as if it were mounted in a laptop or desktop. The user should understand that, while the Scorpio Blue series has a very good reputation, it is still subject to all the common failure modes of hard drives, even while mounted in this excellent enclosure. If the enclosure were sold as a separate item, it would command a premium price, and it can be reused if the drive fails.

This is by far a very good investment. A solid state drive has no moving parts, so instead of having a rotating disc like all hard disk drives have, it's all based off of flash memory. Much like a flash drive or an ipod, for example. This means that if you drop it, you don't have to be so worried about it damagine the memory. Speaking of durability, the case is also metal, meaning it can take even more of a hit. And to top things all off, it's also waterproof. I saw a video of somebody dropping it in the sink and leaving it for 5 minutes, and the device still worked after. But the good features don't stop there. It's USB 3.0 AND 2.0 capable. Most USB 3.0 devices will only work on a USB 3.0 port. But this works on both, which is great seeing how USB 3.0 has only recently surfaced. USB is much faster than 2.0 and is also alot better for multitasking. Reguardless, the drive and cable is fast either way. One final feature you will notice is the cable attached (in the picture). This cable sits right in that cubby hole, and it doesn't even have to clip in. It'll stay in as long as you're not banging it or dropping it. It also comes with another cable, so don't worry about that small cable. The small cable is convienent for placing the drive next to a laptop on a table. One final great feature is the strength of the USB connection with the hard drive. You can carry the drive by the cable and not have to worry about it dropping, much like sticking your headphones into your ipod and carrying your ipod by the cable. This drive is definitely a great investment and I'd recomment to anyone, especially if you're moving around alot with it. It comes at a great price too. I got it on sale on Amazon as well so I saved even more.

I own the 1TB version of this drive. So far I have flown with it five times in international flights and I have suffered no ill problems. I also stuck it in my sink to test the waterproof claims, and had no issues either. (The flap covering the USB input is a little iffy, however it kept water out of the port, so that was good enough for me.)Right off the bat, I was a little disappointed in the sheer size of this portable drive. It's much larger than regular 2.5" external portables, however the build quality was much better. I feel like I could drop the drive (which I have no intention of doing) and it would suffer very little. Other drives would shatter- I have a WD 1TB Portable, and I am able to crack the case open and remove the drive in less than ten seconds. Not that great. The speeds for this drive are blazing fast, in both USB 3.0 and even 2.0 slots. I use the drive to back up photos and movies I have shot while I am out traveling, and wanted to ensure that my photos/videos would be protected and backed up in multiple areas (my laptop, on the camera itself and a durable external). So far this has not disappointed, and I have plenty of space in the 1TB capacity option that I've had no issues storing even my entire photo folder (13 years worth of photography) comfortably inside as an entire mobile backup. The price is high for this item, but trust me that the increase in price is well worth the build quality in comparison to other external drives you would purchase. Their flimsy plastic cases have NO seals whatsoever to protect from any liquid spills, and with several hundred gigabytes of data, you don't want to take that sort of risk, right?

Великолепно
