This Hard Drive is truly awesome!! I've had ZERO problems with it so far! As I received it, I popped it into my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on it. It's been great so far! It's held all of my files, I still have a bunch of space left! So far over 100 movies (some in HD) and several thousand songs, tons of pictures, lots of music videos, software, etc. It's probably the best hard drive I've had! HIGHLY RECOMMEND this!!

Loved this hard drive...my friend suggested it for my daughter's laptop as it was going bad. Price was really great and the speed of it just as good. My daughter loved the new hard drive thus saving us a bundle where we did not need to purchase a new laptop. Thank you Amazon for a great product at a great price!

Installed drive in my laptop a few weeks ago and so far it has worked just fine. It's faster than the original so many AVCHD videos play better. We partitioned it into two drive letters and left basic data on the "C" drive and pictures and videos on the "F" drive.

While I was looking for a good deal on black Friday 2009, I just happened to figure out that I need a new 2.5" hard drive to replace my old one in my Lenovo Thinkpad T60. By default, I got a 100GB inside my T60, but apparently it's not enough over years. I did some research, and This is one of the only two choice, 2.5" 7200rpm 500GB hard drive. Both of them are made by segate, but... here is the difference:Be careful,The cheaper one, ST9500420AS, doesn't come with protection during shocks or drops.On the other hand, ST9500420ASG support G-Force Protection which is more suitable for installation on a laptop.Although I'm not a guy who uses the laptop during the flight or train, I still consider that $20 is acceptable comparing to the lost of data in case. I do know that G-Force Protection is not a guarantee but I'm too lazy to back up my data frequently. Anyway, the "hot" deal on the internet (from newegg, amazon) usually come with the cheaper one. It's your own risk :) But I do think that the product description should highlight the difference on spec.The installation is just a piece of cake. And I download the norton Ghost 15 to "clone" my old disk to new one. I'm using windows 7 but apparently it's a little tricky to clone it without violating the authenticating process of genuine version. I don't want to reinstall the O/S. But if you encounter the "preparing your desktop" problem after copy, here is the solution:[...] Or you can google: windows 7 ghost preparing your desktopFollowing the steps above solves all my issue. I'm happily writing this review booting from the 500GB hard drive.Old review: The noise is okay (I owned a 7200 rpm 100GB also). It's almost the same in noise level.Update 07/09/2010: The high frequent noise becomes a serious problem. It's getting louder and louder. I cannot stand it anymore and AM seriously thinking buying another SSD now.There's no vibration or bizarre things so far. I only installed it for about 1 hour, and I know it's might be too early to endorse it. But I will update the review if there's anything going wrong. If you don't see any complaints and the review stay for 5 star, it means that it works fine for me. I use my laptop about 10~15 hours a day so I think it should be fair to see some problem soon if the quality of hard drive is bad :)I do heard a little noise while o/s accessing the hard drive. It's a little louder than the original one. But the noise is acceptable comparing to the noise from the fan of laptop. If you are very sensitive to the hard disk noise, go for a 5400 rpm one or solid-state drive.--- update 12/07/2009I change my rating from 5 star to 2 star, and might go to 1 star if things getting worse. After a few days, the hard disk sometimes get a very high frequency noise. It's much louder than my another 100GB/7200rpm hitachi drive. I'm not a very sensitive person, but the noise is pretty loud enough so that you can't ignore it. Unless you working in a noisy office, you will aware of this noise. I hate it for sure... It keep distracting me from concentration on my coding. You don't have to run any i/o on this drive, you just keep hearing the noise, so I guess the noise come from the spinning of the disk. Very disappointment with this product. Not recommend !!

Its been 13 months now and my 500GB hard drive has been running smoothly. I upgraded my 07 80gb PS3 fat and I still have tons of free space on the PS3's hdd. Its a massive beast. I was going to buy the 750gb hdd but it seems that I really don't need it.

Had two ASUS laptops with this model of HDD. Both hdds failed in less than 1 year. Very disappointed. Miss those days when seagate was #1 hdd manufacturer.

I had literally no space left on my PS3. It is an original 60 GB model. After buying this new hard drive,it became an original 500 GB model. Install was a bit tough, only because the screws on the hard drive case (for when its in the PS3) were very tight. Other than that, a very simple install and a good hard drive.

I was very pleased with this hard drive which replaced one that was sent near the end of my warranty. The other one lasted about 2 weeks. This has been running constantly for a few couple of months now and I have not had any lock-ups or blue screens or anything like that. I'm very happy to have bought this drive.

This drive has been cloned to our lap top computer with no problems. Sometimes, on coming out of hybernate, the hard drive runs for 10 to 20 seconds before lap top is operational. The prior 500 gig hard drive did not have this problem. But, we can for the first time in years, defragment the hard drive, because this drive is big enough to allow extra space for moving files.

I needed a fast drive to expand the avaialble storage by replacing my OEM 250GB HDD in my MacBook Pro. The drive works great and the 7200rpm speed allows me to quickly edit photos and manage a large photo library. I just followed the instructions on ifixit and after creating an image of the original drive onto the new drive, the actual hardware replacement took less than 15 minutes. The laptop seems faster now that it was with the OEM drive.

Fast, quiet and simple to install.Its double the throughput of the 5400RPM model I am replacing in a Lenovo laptop.However, Amazon packaging is inadequate, as it is shrink wrapped, without any foam or bubble wrap protection,in a box with paper stuffing.

I decided to buy this product even though there are a few scary reviews on here for two reasons:1. Seagate has NEVER failed me, and I've owned a few of their drives, both external and internal.2. I have TimeMachine, so even if the drive crapped out, there is little risk b/c my info is automatically backed up.With that being said, the disk performed well during installation of hardware and restoration of my data. It is a little louder than my previous (5400 RPM) drive, and the computer gets a little warmer. But these issues are SO SLIGHT that I wonder if I would have even noticed them if I weren't looking for them. I was only looking for those traits b/c other reviews mentioned them.Again, Seagate has never failed me, and has never failed my roomie since 2003, (back when data storage was going for $3/gig!!!If this drive ever fails as people claim, I will update this review, so as long as you don't see that update, you will know that it is performing satisfactorily. And I suspect that it will. The drive isn't questionable to me as much as the reviewers are . . .UPDATE ON 6/22/12 - THE DRIVE IS RUNNING AS QUICKLY AND QUIETLY AS EVER. Glad I made the purchase!

Rockband takes up a lot of space. With my 60gb launch PS3, it took up all the space. I installed this one as an upgrade, it was easy to install and runs smoothly and fast on system. It even came a little screwdriver that I didn't find until I was done and cleaning up. In an often usedPS3, it's not loud, doesn't vibrate and doesn't lag.

I purchased one of these to replace my laptop hard disk. Everything was working fine for about 5 days, and then the disk failed - badly. There were many failed sectors which could not be remapped, and eventually the disk couldn't be read at all.Amazon set up an exchange for me I got a second disk. This process was really quite nice because they shipped me the replacement disk before receiving the failed one, and they shipped it next day (the original shipping method I had selected).The replacement disk lasted for 5 days also before failing. At this point I gave up on the seagate momentus, and returned it for good. It is possible, but unlikely, that I just happened to get two bad disks in a row. I would suggest looking to another drive for your storage needs for the time being.

Purchased this to replace a WDC 120GB HDD in a Dell Vostro 1520 laptop. We are by no means heavy users, as the laptop is for Internet surfing, photo-viewing and editing, so the raw speed was hardly a concern to us. After the upgrade, again, we don't notice much difference in the way of disk speed. However, we do notice that the the laptop is now noticeably quieter. SO, along with four times the disk space, the extra quietness is definitely a bonus.

I never had a lot of problem with seagate hdds. Of course, they do fail in 4~5 years. But, this one failed in 2 months. And I gave it a one more try, then it failed again in 2 months. Ok, I'll get a warranty replace. Let's see how it goes.

I bought this to replace the 250GB drive in my mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13". I haven't noticed much different, except for a lot more storage. The drive is quiet, cool, and fast (not dramatically different). It was pretty easy to replace. The hardest part is taking off the bottom cover of the mac. You just need the right size torx screwdriver to remove the drive. Then restore from a time machine backup. This is my first time replacing a drive on a mac (have done on a Windows PC prior). I was impressed at how well the restore from time machine worked. I'm also happy that I didn't pay Apple's inflated priced to get a 500GB drive at purchase time, when I got this 750GB drive for cheaper.
