This system is really outstanding. By now I'm sure you know that from reading the other reviews, but it's worth reiterating how rawsome it really is. It's accessible and fun for everyone, especially those who've been turned off by regular video gaming in their pasts.
Yay for such features as a remote that 'falls asleep' when you've stopped playing and wakes up with the press of any button, allowing conservation of battery power when not playing. And for downloadable games from the past. And being able to check the weather and being able to track whose played and for how long. AND BEING ACTIVE! The best part about this system is the activity level required to play. Instead of sitting and playing (which is also an option), you stand and move and shoot and play guitar and dance on mats and sword fight and behead zombies and drive race cars. Watching is also fun, which makes this a good option for young families. Younger siblings will want to watch older ones.
This is really worth picking up if you are curios. You will find yourself discovering and re-discovering it with every new game you buy, because the Wii remote allows for so many different applications and approaches.
There are games for this system for so many different kinds of players. Even if you are not a traditional 'gamer' and do not have other systems or been playing anything recently you will have fun with this system. Try it! Besides, it's the cheapest one out there.

I have been a Nintendo fan since the original NES launched and have stuck with them through ups and downs (loosing the FF series hurt). The Wii is the perfect living room console system. The last few years my PC has been my primary gaming platform. The console has been there for select games from the Nintendo library like Zelda, Metroid, and Mario games. Most of the play time on my GameCube was for playing MonkeyBall minigames, Mario Party, or some other multiplayer game that anyone can pick up and play. Nintendo was king in that department with the Cube and they will be even better now. My friends who don't play any games have fun with MonkeyBall and Mario Party. They aren't just for kids. Look how popular DDR, eye toy, and guitar hero are. Moving around and getting into the game is fun for everyone.
5 Reasons to buy a Wii.
1.The Wii is at a good price point to make it reasonable for a secondary gaming system as well as a primary system for casual gamers.
2.The motion control system and combined with the IR targeting of the remote make this console even more accessible. You don't have to throw the controller as hard as you can. A simple flick or sublte movement is enough. Although, I confess to some aggressive swinging now and then. Many people say Madden 07 for the Wii is the best version yet because of the control (just needs online play. Maybe in 08). The Wii could revolutionize every genre out there if the software devs are creative enough.
3.Nintendo will keep their great multiplayer lineup and probably expand on it. The new Rayman game is one of the new titles. Returning we have Monkeyball, Smash Brothers, and many more in the pipeline.
4.They continue to have the best exclusive lineup in the industry. Zelda, Metroid, and all the Mario games are amazing series that will continue to get better with the new console.
5.The virtual console is great. They just released the original Ice Hockey. Now, that is a classic game that is still fun.
So, if you are like me and find your console to be used for casual gaming with friends who may not play many games, or if you just like the exclusives that Nintendo has, this is the perfect console. Perhaps you are bored with the existing state of console gaming where the focus has been so much on graphics that only 1 or 2 actually good and original games come out per year. In all honesty, unless you absolutely despise video gaming, there is no reason to not have a Wii. It truly is the perfect console that has something for everyone.

I ordered the wii system and recieved it in a timely fashion. From the appearance of the system and other items I ordered eveything seemed to be ok. I purchased the wii as a gift and did not set it up right away. Almost 2 weeks went buy and at my son's birthday we set it up and it didnt work. Not overall pleased with Nintendo as they sent me a "remanufactured" model. Waited 4 days and we got it-everything worked ok from then on.
I payed full price from this store and after I recieved a defective unit, nintendo sent me a "remanufacured" one. Doesnt seem right to me.

The Nintendo Wii has been bashed again and again by so called gaming purists as a gimick and a joke. There have been jokes about how you look while you play it, jokes about accidentally throwing the controller, and jokes about everyone who owns one being a bit of a puss.
Next gen purists have sadly lost sight of what gaming was all about in the first place - fun. The Nintendo Wii is anything but a joke, the controller makes it a sort of side-show attraction for non-gamers and a loveable oddity for avid gamers. in addition, it is somewhat of a link to the past for those of us who grew up on the original NES.
The graphics aren't that much better than the Gamecube. So what?? They're games. What do you want them to look like? Nintendo and gameplay have always gone hand in hand, no matter what the competition was doing. There is no doubt of the fact that they left a lot of the polished graphics aspect behind in order to do something more important.
Although the controller is a bit of a reach for a lot of gamers, I found it a welcome change with most games that I played. It is slightly physical, but who has time to make fun of you when there are games to play?
Nintendo has always been a company full of geniouses, but what they've done this time is beyond compare. They took their main markets of loyal oldskool fans, children, and general fans of Nintendo platformers (esp. Zelda and Mario), and played to all of them. They seem to have left out 18-24 year old males, the main demographic of the gaming industry, but it was apparent that they would not win that battle anyway. In their place, they took up a whole new market, that of the non-gamer. Games like Wii Sports enable you to hand a wiimote to any of your non-gaming friends and have them playing a game within a few minutes.
The Wii is an incredible system and it has not EVER given me any problems since I got it at launch. Soon enough there will be a whole new batch of games coming out for it and it will become even better.
This system is highly reccomended for Nintendo purists, fans of oldskool gaming, people who want to get their kid a new system (but want to play the same system themselves), and really just for any gamer. At least make it your second system. You won't regret it.

Wii bought this system for our son last Christmas. Wii paid a bunch of money for it but this is a very good family type of fun.
I love the fact that it is so interactive, it gets him bouncing all over the living room. Just need to be carefull that nothing breakable is near by or ceiling fans for that matter.
I really have not found any downside to it other than the price of the games but all game systems are that way.

I'm older, 27, and have a job and a social life. I don't have or will make the energy to spend studying games hardcore, I just want some simple fun and then I'm out. This system in my opinion perfect for my needs. I'm familiar with old school nintendo games so when I bought Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it has such a nostaligic goodness feeling to it. Plus they introduced me to their new characters- I had no idea what Pikmin was before. Plus I can buy cheap gamecube games and play them (I never owed a cube) and so I have gotten FZero Gx, Pikmin, Rouge Squadron, and Metroid Prime for about $30 total. (Though I must admit I haven't really played them- damn you nintendo for your great marketing). I also bought Bomberman 93 (similar to the Snes one) and had a nice bomberman party with four wii controllers. Just to end it quick, but this system is cool, cheap, quick fun!!!

I am writing this review from the prospective of having this system since the day it came out and being an avid gamer for over 20 years(I had the original NES..loved it).
The Wii is very well designed, and compact. It's got some great features. The remote is definitey innovative and games like bowling and tennis on Wii Sports is really fun, especially if you're with a group of friends. Other features like the internet browser, weather channel, and ability to buy older games is cool too.
The biggest problem is that there aren't many games and the ones that are out aren't too diverse. Most of the games appear to be aimed at younger gamers or party-style games. I'm 30 so it's hard for me to get all excited about games like Happy Feet and Cooking Mama. Also, yes I know innovation is a big part of fun, but why not at least TRY to push the graphic power of the Wii? Most of the games look about Gamecube quality or Xbox quality. I'm positive the Wii can push more in the graphic department if the developers tried. In addition, I am not sure where Nintendo is going with the online gaming aspect. I think that's going to be a HUGE part of next-gen gaming yet they seem to have no solid infrastructure for that. I had tons of fun on my PS2 playing games like Socom online w/other people, which also in effect increased replay value.
I'm not writing this to bash the Wii. I genuinely like what is is and the idea behind it. I just wish that there were more games and more TYPES of games out. The gamecube suffered from lack of software, and to be honest I feel the Wii is so far running the same track. I just bought RE4 yesterday as that is the only game at the local store that looked fun for me. I'm not sure I like having to wait another half year for the next killer app title for Wii. If you like shooters, RPGs, or action games, the Wii probably isn't the system for you.

If you're looking for something with great graphics then the wii is not it. Go for a PS# or Xbox 360 instead. With that said, the wii more than makes up for it's lakc of spectacular graphics with it's incredible game play. What makes the Wii so awesome is the interactive play. People of all ages can learn to play the wii and each family member can create their own character. The wii can also get online which allows you to download updates and games from older systems. Those of you in your 20s and 30s like me will appreciate being able to play those "old school" games again. The longer this system is out, the better the games get for them. Look at the craze over wii fit!

My wife wanted to get our daughter a Wii for a gift. I was very resistant as she has several gaming systems and I couldn't really see the point.
I lost and we got it. As reluctant as I was to get this system, I must admit that it is great. The games are very interactive and require quite a bit of movement. It is much better than the typical 'couch potato' interaction of most video games. That is not to say that playing Wii sports should be confused with exercise. It is not that, but at least players must be somewhat active. That is a big plus in and of itself.
In addition to the activity level required in some of the games, it is very fun for all ages. I have only played the Wii sports games so far myself, but those are a lot of fun. The games that come with the system include boxing, tennis, bowling, baseball, and golf. I have played four of those so far and they are all quite fun.
I have noticed that the prices have gotten a bit crazy on these systems this season. Although it is a lot of fun, I don't think it is worth some of the extreme prices that it is being sold for currently. I would recommend watching and waiting for it at the normal prices, which is about $250.

Who knew you could REALLY work out your muscles in front of a TV? The system keeps track of your success and that helps keep you going. I love it!

I purchased an extra Wii nunchuck so that I could have the option of playing with multiple people rather than just playing against the Wii. I have only used it once because the only game I have that uses nunchucks is the Wii Sports boxing. It's worth the money to buy one so you can have it just in case.

I think this is the best game console ever. I have had others in the past but none measure up to the Wii. The controls are easy to use and the games are alot of fun. It is one of the few game consoles that does not turn players into couch potatoes. :)

First things first. I am a gamer. My fiancé is not. Getting her to play video games is darn near impossible. Then we got the Wii. For the first three weeks we played it every night.
Playing the Wii isn't just sitting there playing a video game. It's interaction, both with the game and the people you're playing with.
If you haven't tried it, find a friend that has one and try it. You'll be wanting one soon enough. This system will change the way games are played.

Only disadvantage was the price, but since I was told about [...] where I got one for completing a simple offer I've been really pleased with my wii. Loving the wireless function and the fun we have when family and friends are over. If you're finding the gadget to expensive then I'd definately recommend [...]. Just complete a free or cheap offer and refer some friends to do the same!

This console is much better than the other two when it comes to new game design. Nintendo actually went for something new. The new control scheme is much more advanced than powerful CPU and GPU. It reminds me of the song, "Razzle Dazzle" from the musical "Chicago." "Razzle dazzle 'em
And they'll never catch wise!" is a perfect analogy for what Microsoft and Sony have done with their systems. At least Microsoft added other media functions to attract people to its system even though that doesn't qualify any more to be considered next-gen. Sony on the other hand, copy features from both of its competitors and still only has a half baked system.
Nintendo has no stake in anything but gaming, so they actually focused on gaming when the Wii was in R&D. They did put motion, force-feedback, and traditional buttons on its controller and it does work great. Sure, the graphics aren't the greatest but I was warned well in advance, even before the system came out that it would only be slightly better than the GameCube. So don't listen to people complaining about the graphics when they already knew what they were going to be like. The lower graphics does allow games to be easily put on a single disk. I thought the graphics on the GameCube were fine, so the slight increase pleases me. And, because the games aren't too graphically intense, Nintendo just needed to use full-sized DVDs, which can be read much faster than Blu-Ray discs, so performance is not sacrificed like on the PS3.
As for the limited number of games, for me it's not as bad for the Wii as the 360 or the PS3. There are more games for the Wii that I want to play than there are for the 360 or the PS3. I'm rather picky when it comes to the games I'll buy, so right now there are only two out for the Wii that I want with a third coming out in June. But there's only 1 or 2 for the 360 that I would want and none for the PS3, so it's not like I didn't consider games when I bought the Wii.

I would rather have wireless everything but when its wireless it is more expensive and harder to take care of. Very important to play many of my games.

There's probably not much more I can add that hasn't already been mentioned about the Wii, but it's a great system and our family loves it. My husband is the most proficient with it, as he grew up on one of the old Nintendo systems (NES??). I'm doing pretty good with Wii Sports and the Wii Play games, and even our 5 year old daughter is holding her own on several of the games. We plan to add some more games to our collection - looking forward to the release of Wii Fit in (supposedly) May - which will give us even more playing options.
I do recommend getting at least 1 more Wii-mote and Nunchuk combo so more than one person can play at a time. Also, if you have the option, connecting it to the Internet is a neat option. We have fun with the Everybody Votes channel, I like reading the various news stories, and of course there's the option of buying some of the classic Nintendo games.
As a first-time gaming system owner, I'm very pleased with the Wii. I can see why it is so popular!

I never played any games or used any of the gaming systems (nintendo ds, xbox, ps2 etc..). The last game I played was doom ( a couple of times when it was released and then got bored of that).
Nintendo Wii has converted such a person to a game addict (almost - not quite yet!). The included sports game disk is good (I do have some issues - there is room for improvement in tennis in placement of the ball, you cannot move the player etc).
I also tried Mario and Sonic at the olympics another great game for Wii.
In all it is a great entertainment for the whole family.
I wish Nintendo makes it less scarce in the US.
