Setup can't be easier, connect all the cables and turn it on. The system will walk you through a couple of setup options. The system has built-in wireless, and it can connect to the Internet if you have a wireless connection. If you have encryption enabled on your router, you'll need to setup the connection manually. Once connected, it downloaded 2 updates but it was ready to go within 30 minutes.
The remote controller is an interesting piece of technology, playing back sound, vibrating, and sensing your movements. It took only about 5 minutes to get adjusted to "pointing" to menu items on the screen, and I was amazed that you can also "twist" the direction of the pointer so that the hand points up, down, and all around -- I can't wait to see how this is used in games. The controller is well-designed and the wrist strap is comfortable and doesn't seem to fall off at all. My 5-year old could handle it with little difficulty. If anybody thinks the Wii is not technically advanced, a lot of the advanced technology is in the controller/remote -- keep that in mind.
Wii Sports is an interesting game package. Bowling is fun and very realistic. Gold is extremely enjoyable, and I don't even like golf. Even my 5 year old daughter could play the golf game. Tennis is fun but somewhat challenging and requires a lot of practice. Baseball, as well, is fun -- but "changing sides" and pitching isn't all that fun. Boxing is fun and can be quite a workout.
In fact, I think the real beauty of this system is that you're not sitting down when playing games like those in Wii Sports. Get up and move! I can imagine a game where special controllers are strapped to your ankles, and you hold the remote and nunchuck in your hands...and you dance...while the character on-screen mimics your movement. The possibilities are endless...!
Although I don't have a Gamecube, I love that it plays Gamecube games and supports all the hardware (memory and controllers) so that it's backwards compatible with the technology. Nintendo can continue to write games for the Gamecube and those of us (like me) with only a Wii can still buy and play them. Ingenious.
There's a ton of other features -- but in all, it appears to be a well-built little package...very well-thought-out, with endless possibilities. It turns gaming on its head. You won't be disappointed!

The Wii comes with a controller and nunchuk as well as some Wii sport games. The games are Tennis,Baseball, bowling, golf and boxing.

However, this is not a console you want to buy if you are a hardcore gamer expecting to play hardcore games. Honestly, I have a Wii to play with friends that aren't really into other games. For instance, my girlfriend only played PS2 games with me about once a month, just because she was okay with them. However, she is very into the Wii and will play for hours because she feels its simple and fun. Me on the other hand, I play Wii, but I have another console for the "real" games...the Metal Gears, Final Fantasys, GTAs, etc. So, if you or the recipient is into certain types of games, you may not want to get a Wii and look to PS3 or 360 as your primary console. But, I will say the Wii makes a solid back-up console strictly for simple and fun gaming.
Overall, Wii offers a great experience for the casual gamer and their friends, but offers little to the true hardcore gamer.

We don't own any other game systems. We chose this one to help us get up off our "sitters" now and then. No problems with the system. We are just getting to know all the "Wii points" and other stuff that can expand the system more. Overall, I'm glad we bought it.
