Then along comes the Wii. At first I was not really on board, growing up with a regular controller and making fun of the people that always used to turn the controller thinking it would somehow help them out. But then I went to a friend's house and played some of the games and it was amazing. I swing, my character swings, I turn the wheel, my car turns, I point at something on the screen and hit my button and things happen. But probably the best part is that others that do not like having to learn all of the buttons and joysticks of the old style controls don't have to, for many of the games you just need to move the remote and hit one or two buttons and you are playing.
Basically if you want a system that non-gamer friends can come over and pick up very quickly that offers a multitude of party friendly, easy to pick up titles, you can't go wrong with the Wii. It is also a better option if you are busy and don't have hours every day to master games, because many of the games don't require a huge time investment to learn and have fun playing, like Mario cart, Wii Sports, or Lego Star Wars all of which I was able to quickly pick up and actually do stuff before I really had any idea what it was I was suppose to be doing...the frustration level of the games I have played so far is much lower than the majority of the hundreds of games I have had in the past.
So if you are looking for a fun, easy to learn, multi-player friendly system that offers the newest adventures of some of the all time best characters ever created, look no further than the Wii.

I just received the Wii Sports Resort game a couple of days ago and played it today. Extremely entertaining. When I stopped working out/playing today the system told be I had been playing for 3hrs and 37 minutes. I got carried away. But I feel great and have felt good for the rest of the day, probably due to the fact I got some good exercise. This has been great fun for me. Even for a friend that came over and we bowled together. Highly recommend!

Before I played with the Wii, I was not sure if it would be as great as the PS3 because of it'sgraphics. But because the PS3 has more violent games, I turned to the Wii because I wanted something family friendly. I got a PS2 when it first came out and played mostly racing games, the violent games did not appeal to me much.
Anyway, playing the Wii really blew my breath away! True the graphics don't compare to the PS3, but the games are much more fun and interactive. Plus the Nintendo store in New York City is a great place to hang out and connect with other Nintendo fans. I'm dying to try the new sports pack game and play the basketball games. Also I'm digging the new Tiger Woods game and the awesome Grand Slam Tennis. I'm so excited :)

In one word, the Wii is a lot of fun.
Compared to the other consoles:
XB360: The XB360 is simply a gaming powerhouse. The XB Live experience is also, in my opinion, far superior than PSN.
PS3: Honestly, I don't own any games for the PS3 other than a few arcade games. I use my PS3 simply for the BluRay player. However, I will add that the PS3 does integrate with the Sony PSP very well.
Wii: Once again, Nintendo doesn't follow the status quo and comes up with something unique. Nintendo for went diving into high definition and instead gave us unique game interaction which is proving to be very enjoyable. However, if you have an ED/HDTV, I would still recommend picking up a pair of component cables for the Wii. Even if you have a standard TV, with S-Video in, I would also recommend picking up an S-Video cable. The composite video is a little on the weak side, which leads to some artifacting and flickering in blue fields. Either of these cables will eliminate this. I also recommend networking the Wii since you will be able to get updates. The Wii has built in wireless (and supports WPA/WPA2) networking, but if you have a wired network you will have to pick up an additional USB-Ethernet adapter. If you network your Wii, definetly purchase the [...] "Internet Channel" (which is actually an optimized Opera browser.) The browser works very well and loads pages fast. It is even better than the PS3's browser. Why it wasn't included, I don't know. It even works great with YouTube!
The virtual consoles (NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, etc) games are a little pricey in my opinion ([...]), but I still bought SM1, SM2, SM3, SMW, SM64.
Like the other two consoles, I recommend running it horizontally instead of vertically. I simply don't trust the drives to give as much life running vertically as they would horizontally.
(EDIT: I'm adding this long after I posted this review, but you can organize your channels. I discovered how by accident! Simply press and hold both the "A" button and trigger, while over a channel. The channel will be "picked up" and you can drag it anywhere you like. Yeah, this was probably in the manual, but who reads manuals?) :-)
Overall, it is a very fun system.
I am glad I bought it.

Just know that this system, made by Nintendo holds up to it's name. Your family from age 3 to 99 will certainly be entertained for many hours, days, & even nights to come. If you loved your GameCube, you'll love this more. It plays all your gamecube games, and you can even use your old GC controllers as it has 4 ports for them.
The best thing of all is how we can just pop in our SD card from our digital camera and let the fun begin with slideshows and many unique editing features! Come on join the fun! Paint a mustache on Grama and add some sunglasses to your favorite pet! Add some great background music to your shows!
Even totally surf the interenet with your Wii!
It's awesome!

The Wiimote + Nunchuck form an inseparable, intuitive pair. Some games (Mario) seem to use the motion controls better than others (Metroid), although that doesn't mean Metroid uses the controls poorly, just not as well. The controller is a solid accelerometer, and accurately detects when you're swinging it and in what direction and how fast. One word though: the sensor bar's native adhesives are very weak. Invest in better ones.
The Wii is a simplistic console. Nintendo, as always, has been only a gaming company. Unlike Sony, it doesn't make TVs or VCRs. And unlike Microsoft it doesn't release software other than games. But that means it can focus all of its attention on making a great console with great games for it; and the Wii shows that off beautifully.
Now for the bad news: the Wii's online play is very clunky. I would say it's almost unbearably clunky. The ridiculously long "friend number" that you need is a very ... interesting solution for online playing considering how Xbox LIVE or even Playstation Network does it. Also, the best you'll ever get (I think) in terms of graphics is somewhere around 400p (but please don't quote me on that). For sure, however, is that you're never going to even approach 1080p. Not even 750p. If you're looking for bleeding-edge, eye-popping graphics, the Wii is not your console.
Prior to owning a Wii, I had owned both a Playstation 3 and an Xbox 360. I can say that all 3 play very differently from each other, but if you are like me and have moments where you don't necessarily want intense single-player action on a PS3 or equally intense multi-player battles on LIVE, the Wii is there, ready for some irreverent fun. It's the ultimate party console, great for when you've got friends over (just make sure you've purchased some spare controllers!).
Before I leave, I should mention the Nintendo Wii comes with Wii Sports. Before you bash it as a stupid collection of pointless minigames, I should mention that they are in fact a lot of fun. You can't ever actually "win", but it's still tons of fun, especially if you want to waste time. Don't expect deep gameplay, but ... I think the best example to give is the game Tetris. Nobody expects deep gameplay from Tetris, it's repetitive as all heck, it's simplistic, and you can't ever really "win" Tetris. Yet it is also strangely addictive, just like Wii Sports.
