(1) This adapter easily provides 802.11n wireless connectivity to a PC or laptop with a USB port. In order to get the full speed benefit, of course, you need an 802.11n wireless access point. But it is backwardly compatible with the more widely deployed 802.11 b/g WiFi access points.(2) The adapter has approximately the same size as a thumb drive and can be plugged directly into a USB port. Netgear also provides an auxiliary cradle with a 52" cable. The cable plugs into a USB port, and the adapter plugs into the cradle. The cradle is useful if you are using the adapter with a PC placed under a desk, for example. You can position the adapter for best RF reception.(3) The adapter runs only slightly warm to the touch. It has an inside slot, which allows good air circulation. When plugged into the cradle, the adapter is held at an ~45 deg angle from vertical, again allowing good air circulation.(4) The adapter does require you to load drivers. I'm using it with an old PC running Win XP. No problems. Just load in the setup CD and follow the step-by-step instructions. You should check for compatibility with other versions of Win.(5) If you have a PC with a standard Ethernet port, an alternative adapter is the Netgear WNCE2001 Ethernet-to-802.11n adapter. That unit does not require drivers; however, it is a lot more expensive (~$60). It also runs hotter and does not come with a cradle (Netgear supplies Velcro strips if you want to mount the unit to a surface). Prices vary a lot day-to-day on Amazon. I bought this USB adapter a month ago for $35, now I see it's selling for $24. That's a good bargain.(6) One word of caution concerning what this adapter will *not* do. It will not allow you to connect a non-network printer with a USB port to a wireless network. This adapter converts USB signals to 802.11n signals. It does not have a network protocol stack loaded in firmware.

I have been running this Netgear and have not had one problem with it, Works great! Doesn't drop out or loose signal. Plus you can modify to your own needs.

So far, so good...so easy. I already have a Netgear router, so the compatibility and set-up was effortless. Within a matter of minutes I was able to use my old PC (5 year old HP, Microsoft Vista) without wires. I haven't had any problems with it connecting to my network even when I turn the system on. Like I said, effortless.

Good price, fast shipping even on super saver, ran the disk first so i wouldn't have to carry it to the other room and plug it in hard wired incase it needed to install drivers, I'm on xp. Internet connected in 5 mins or less

I bought this WiFi adapter in Aug, shortly after I moved to a new place. I have never been happy with it. It goes off when my desktop goes to sleep, but it does not turn back on with my computer. I am constantly having to unplug it and plug it back in just for it to connect to the internet. I would return it if I could. Instead I am buying another WiFi adapter.

The Netgear WNA1100 USB Wi-Fi adapter gets the job done as advertised. I use it for a computer in the basement about 50-60 feet from my wireless router. The throughput is great and connectivity is excellent. The desktop cradle for the tiny receiver is a nice touch that can be easily hidden behind a picture or speaker. I'd definitely recommend this product.

I shopped around on amazon and at walmart, i paid $10 more at walmart, but my parents wanted to make sure that if there was a problem i could return it easier than i can with amazon purchases. Ever since my parents bought me my laptop last October for school to replace my old one that decided to be super slow and not work very well, I had wireless internet connection problems. There were times that my laptop would not even show my router as a network. At school, I didn't fare much better at times. It took me over a year of agitation and anger to realize maybe there was something wrong with my computer's internal wireless adapter. I decided to see if I could fix the problem with a usb adapter. It installed and had me online in less than five minutes. Our DSL serves as our router as well, and it connected to it with no trouble, and I have had no issues with it since installing it. I am very happy with my choice. And if someone says that it doesn't work with windows 7, they are wrong. My computer is windows 7 and it works with no problems. I have not lost internet and it is pretty fast. I honestly wish that I had figured out that this is what i needed a year ago when i first started having issues with my computer. It would have saved me so much grief. I recommend it to anyone.

I have installed this wna1100 on all my desk top computers from vista to windows 7, and they all have worked very well with no problems. And updating firmware is easy if you want to. I use AT&T wireless and it sets itself every time. No more cables running all over the place. Speed is very fast too.

I got this unit to go with a Netgear RangeMax N150 Wireless Router WPN824N, which I have also reviewed. Installation of the Adapter was a breeze: pop in the CD, follow the instructions (more on this in just a bit), and start surfing...it's that simple. The gizmo itself works quietly in the background like it's supposed to: no muss, no fuss. It does take up a USB port, so if you have a lot of USB devices you may need a USB hub...or constantly unplug/replug something.The only small hic-up was during installation, when the instructions said to press the WiFi button on my router. The big blue button on that device (the WPN824N) was lit, so I didn't know if I should press it anyway. I did, and I shouldn't have. The installation discovery process timed out. The second time I did the process, WiFi was off (from the first time), so pressing the button turned it on, and all was well.Now we're all hooked up and have joined the 21st Century. If only all techno-gadgets were this easy to install and ran so well!

This device just isn't ready for release. Among its problems:1) As configured on install, the device is shut down when the computer hibernates, but doesn't wake up when the computer comes out of hibernate. You have to manually go into device manager and tell the computer not to shut it down. This could easily have been done in the installer.2) Even with that setting fixed, quite often the device doesn't wake up properly on wake-up or boot. Sometimes unplugging it and plugging it back in works, sometimes not. Twice I had to uninstall and reinstall the driver software.3) It doesn't interoperate correctly with other net connections. Frequently it would die and take the others with it.4) When I bought a different usb wifi device and threw this one away, I then went to uninstall its software from the app manager. It popped up a "Remove the usb device" dialog (despite the fact the device was not plugged in) that could not be dismissed. I had to reboot to get rid of it, and I still can't uninstall the software.In short: This device is awful.

if you install the drivers both windows 7 and 8 will crash neither will windows automatically install default M.S drivers searching for drivers work

I bought two refurbished WNA1100-100NAR wifi adapters from another site - $11.98 including shipping. As noted by one of the other reviewers, it doesn't come with a driver disk just a dock/antenna hardwired to a usb cable and the adapter itself. Plugged the first adapter into the dock, then plugged that into my wife's computer and booted it up. Connected right away at 150Mb/s. Then I took the second WNA1100 and plugged it directly into my computer and booted up. My computer shows 135Mb/s, but I'm not using the dock. Both computers are running Fedora (Linux) 17. I'm very pleased with my purchases.

Just so you don't overlook the obvious, the instability problem (connection drops reconnects, drops again, driving you crazy) often is the result of two competing adapter software applications. Because Netgear provides their own, you have to be very carefull in the install not to accidently activate both the Netgear software and Windows wireless controls. You have to install the netgear application to get the drivers. If you do end up with both apps running, you will get the exact problem described, where it becomes unstable because the two software applications will conflict. To fix it, uninstall all netgear stuff and manually erase any remaining folders or files from netgear, disconnect the adapter, reboot. Make sure your system is working fine without adapter. Then reinstall the netgear software using the latest update, if you can get it off another computer connected to the web or the one you are working on connected by wire. Do not attach the adapter until it asks, then do it and quickly follow the instructions, making sure to select the netgear wizard, not the microsoft controller. If you wait too long, windows will go ahead and install its own control software and you will have start all over. The windows controller software did not work well with the netgear adapter, as I tried both.

The product does what it says. It allows me to use the internet wirelessly on an old desktop without needing a wireless card. However, it is refurbished and there is not a software CD with the product. The software is available online. Seeing as how I bought the item in order to use the internet on my computer I was frustrated. All I needed to do was use a friends computer to get online and I saved the software to a USB flash drive then uploaded to my desktop. It took less than 10 mins. A pretty sweet bargain. Haven't had any problems with the device since installation.

This adapter works out-of-the-box with Ubuntu Linux 12.04. Its not the fastest adapter, but very few of these things run at spec and this unit is certainly fast enough. For my purposes, it hit the spot. Plug it in and re-boot.

Just received the adapter today, replacing a slower Netgear adapter about 10 years old that was giving me download speeds of 4-5 MBPS, one floor below an inexpensive "G" router. I have a dual core chip running Vista Home Premium. I set a restore point, uninstalled the old Netgear driver, inserted the installation CD and chose to install only the standalone driver. Plugged in the adapter when prompted, Windows recognized it and installed the driver. Download speed is now close to 15 MBPS, about triple what it was a few minutes ago.I like the cradle to hold the adapter on top of my desk (the computer is below) and the price.I will update this review if anything goes wrong. For now I'm a happy surfer.
