This adapter was tested on two PCs - A Compaq Evo N610c (work-issued) and a Compaq SR1230NX (home), where both run XPSP2, and so far the following issues have come to light:1) Full 108Mbps performance is possible only when I set my router (Netgear WGT624) to "108Mbps only" which precludes using other adapters. Auto-sensing the router drops the connection to 54Mbps tops. Since most of my traffic goes to the Internet through a cable modem, full 108 is not yet a necessity. Those who have a lot of traffic inside the LAN - such as pushing video files to various rooms - might want to shop for a more robust solution.2) On the SR1230NX, connection is at best temporary when using any of the front USB 2.0 ports. The only usable connection is with the back USB ports, which I thought were also 2.0, but which the adapter (or XP) claims are not. The message in Windows states, "This device could perform faster..." - so far my research indicates a USB driver issue. Other devices such as memory sticks, gamepads, cameras (Panasonic camcorder, HP digital camera, and Logitech webcam), and Olympus audio recorder work fine on the front ports. The Evo laptop doesn't have this problem.3) On either system, regardless of the port used, connections die in minutes when using WPA-PSK. WEP works OK.4) It doesn't work consistently on the SR1230NX if plugged in hot. If plugged in with power off, it's OK. This "feature" wasn't tested on the Evo. The installation procedure specifies plugging in the adapter with the power off, so that will be the future MO.5) So long as the above conditions are satisfied, the Smart Wizard works OK. If knowing your connections stats in real-time is important, Smart Wiz is superior to the standard XP Wireless Connection Wizard, which reports 108Mbps regardless of true connection speed. If you don't need it or RAM is tight, the XP Wiz is fine.Once I satisfy the above conditions, the WG111T runs as well as my wired 100M Ethernet connection, which I've disabled. The WG111T's performance has convinced me that all of my future PC/console/media center installations will use wireless. Now it boils down to which stuff installs the easiest and works the most reliably.Addendum 2007-01-30 -I have since switched back to auto-sense speed on my router because I have other devices -- namely a D-Link DCS-900W wireless webcam -- that only runs at 54 Mbps. That of course drops the max speed of my WG111T to 54 Mbps. So far that hasn't affected the performance of my online gaming relative to using a wired connection.I decided not to update the USB drivers for my PC. I'm shopping for a new PC and my current one will probably become a home-grown DVR, so it will probably be rebuilt in Linux anyway.About the only other observation worthy of note is that when the PC is powered down, along with the Belkin USB hub to which it is attached, the WG111T seems to remain energized. At least the blue LED keeps flashing. Detaching and reattaching the WG111T fixes the issue. I didn't verify whether it was emitting RF in its' "PC off" state.Addendum 2007-09-14The WG111T quit working about a month ago. I replaced it with an Ativa USB, the Office Depot store brand. I already had a good experience with it on another PC (my P4 gaming rig - the SR1230NX now serves as an auxiliary). Amazon carries some Ativa merch, but not the USB Wi-Fi adapter as of 9/14. The Ativa is cheap (about $25 retail) and so far it's been the most reliable of all adapters tried. I have two complaints - it's substantially bigger than any USB Wi-Fi adapter I've seen (so it may not be suitable for portables) and the connection manager is a CPU hog - the standard Windows network utility works much better.

I am very impressed with this router. It works well. Far better than the Apple Airport that we were using. It is easy to install and has superior firewall technology. We can pick up signals on all three floors and streaming video and voice is excellent. This is by far the best wireless router that I've ever used. One of our adapters is a Netgear 108Mbps PCI adapter and the other is a USB adapter plugged into a laptop. Over the years I have tried at least 20 different routers (mostly Linksys and D-Link) and this is the one that we are planning to keep as long as it works. The lighting scheme is nice to look at with the lights off. Netgear really did it this time.

Okay...well...first let me say I'm not real handy setting up computer things..so when the reviews said it was 'easy' to set up I thought "hey! I can do 'easy'." It took two hours on the phone with tech support ( in some foreign country...thick, difficult to understand accent) before 'we' were able to get it up and running with our computers. Once it was set up, it worked for a few months, then just quit one day. I didn't have it in me to do another two hours on the phone trouble shooting, so I bought AT&T's wireless router and hooked it up, ( in about 20 minutes) and it's been working fine ever since. Also...the blue flashing light is annoying if it's in or near where you sleep at night.

I bought this device and it didn't work. The CD software failed to install because it only works on 32-bit laptops and computers.ALL new laptops and computers are now 64-bit. That means I couldn't install the CD that is required to use the device. (You can't use the device until you use the CD)I have to return it. It wasted my time and delayed may access to the internet by several days.Boycott NetGear because it is incompetent to ship software without supporting 64-bit laptops/computers.

Just received this kit. Followed the easy directions and set everything up as default. Worked first time exactly as advertised. I am using this to stream HD video from my HP Vista Media Center computer(on my second floor) to my HP Mediasmart extender in my bedroom (first floor)as well as my PS3 in my living room (first floor). Vista media center has a tool to tune your network with a bar graph allowing you to move your bridge around to get the best reception. Before I installed this, my Mediasmart was only getting marginal performance. Now my bar graph is showing the best reception available. I can stream HD to my Mediasmart and my PS3 at the same time with no dropouts. I highly recommend this product!

I have a Netgear Rangemax router and XP Home on a desktop PC. The installation and function of this device has been fine. You do have to install the drivers and Netgear manager before attaching the device. The speed connecting to the internet is the same as the wired speed (which was not all that fast over a cable modem). All of my other wired and wireless devices work fine, too.I did get it on sale from a store as it cost as much (or less) than a cat-5e cable I was going to get instead. As I just purchased this, it appears that Netgear has solved most of the problems that some earlier purchasers had.

I now had this router for almost 2.5 months and as some other reviews reported I also ran into multiple issues for wireless connection drops and unable to connect. All these problems started after I had this router for more then 30 days so I couldn't simiply return it and hence need to find a workaround/fix. This router worked flawlessly for first 30 days but when I changed my appartment I ran into so many problems I thought of just dumping this into garbage and getting linksys but then I refused to give up my $120 without a flight. In order to fix the problem I did the following1. Installed lastest updates for my router.2. Installed lastest wireless adapter drivers on both of my laptops.3. Reduced the MAX router speed from 300Mbs to 145Mbs (http://192.168.1.1 => Wireless Setting)4. Tried choosing different Channels until I found 1 where my wireless connection got stable.Since performing all the above steps I didnt faced any problems whatsoever but I can only use half of the speed allowed on Wireless N. To my understanding problem seems to be that when you use setting for 300Mbs rounter has to use as many as 5 channels at the sametime and chances of conflict with another network become very high. Hope this helps someone going through the same issues as mine.Just to add to this I also had linksys 310 N router for 2 weeks before I switched to netgear and the reason for the switch was that I only got 130 Mbs connection speed v/s 300Mbs allowed so I decided to give a try to netgear.

This router was pretty easy to set up. The problems include slow wireless speeds and a MAJOR compatibility issues with items such as bridges/AP's. My previous and much older Linksys G router was faster and was compatible with other items. Due to poor performance and compatibility issues I am replacing this poor router. My brother bought this netgear and had the same compatibility issues he too had to trash his and replace it. I do not recommend this router.

Absolutely love the Netgear WNR3500. It looks great and works great. The router has performed flawlessly with absolutely no dropouts. I can take my laptop several houses down from mine and still get a good connection. It was very simple to install. I am running 2 desktops, 1 laptop, a XBOX 360, an Ipod Touch plus a Netgear PS121 printer server connected to my Canon MP610 Printer. All work just great. I would definitely recommend this router.

I had no experience with routers at all, and wanted a wireless router to do gaming through xbox live. With no previous experience, you put in the install CD, and it walks you through the steps easily, and it is up and running flawlessly in less than 20 minutes. A few months later, I also hooked up a printer and notebook, each in seconds. Anyone can set this up and attach devices to it. Works well with good range throughout the whole house. Great product. Highly recommended.

This seems to be a great wireless modem/router but after spending a lot of time with Netgear and Verizon support, I was unable to get it to connect to the internet. It could see the DSL connection though. Verizon tech support gave up after their usual half-hearted effort and expected me to go for premium support at a hefty price. I'm back to separate components which includes my old Verizon Westell modem/router.

I too had a poor experience with this device. There are a LOT of updates and fixes available for the problems described by the other reviewer, but unfortunately they are only available for the "V2" device. Amazon shares part of the blame for the problem since I ordered my device WELL after the V2 released but Amazon sent me one of the "old stock" V1 devices. After performing all possible V1 updates, tuning, tweaks, etc. I was ready to return the device. I decided that I would give the V2 firmware a try (yes, it may void your warranty, but if the device is an absolute piece of trash anyway...)The "good news" is that the V2 firmware loaded just fine and performs "as advertised" - just no warranty. DDNS actually works for me with the V2 firmware, and all my VPN tunnels also all work without any issues. My device is used in a light business / heavy home user environment with 5 persistent VPN tunnels and I have not noticed any performance related issues, random resets, or dropped connections after the V2 flash upgrade.Shame on Netgear for not offering an upgrade path from V1 to V2 (partial credit or something).Shame on Netgear for not supporting the V2 software on the V1 device (since the V2 software is the only thing that makes the device usable).Shame on Amazon for not returning all their old stock to Netgear and offering their customers the latest version of the product - my main complaint here is that if I purchase a book that has multiple revisions, at least I am told, and therfore able to select which revision of the book I would like to purchase. This was not the case with my purchase of the firewall.CM

Poor experience with this product - it proved to be extremely unreliable.Setup was quick with the documentation provided including handling fixed IP addresses and the wireless setup including security was painless. However in operation it was dropping connectivity within a couple of hours requiring a power off and power on cycle. Sometime the wired access would drop and other times the wireless, often both. I spent three + hours on the phone with Netgear technical "pro" support which included shutting off all machines except one and upgrading to the latest firmware with no material improvement after two days of operation. The next step was an RMA and the replacement unit arrived in a couple of days with the same result. As this box could not deliver a reliable connection for the 5 laptops, 1 desktop, 1 server, Airtunes and a Print Server - I replaced it with the following setup.(1) a Linksys BEF SR41 for the Router and (2) a Linksys WAP 54G for the wireless access pointThe setup experience was straightforward and the operation since then has been flawless - not a single drop and no re-boots.

Works very well. The setup for the router takes a while, but it is very easy. The speed is quite impressive, and if you need a fast network, that needs to handle a lot of computers/devices, then this is defiantly something your going to want. We have three computers, and several wireless devices in our home, and they are all running faster than they did (simultaneously) before! The only problem I had was setting up my Wireless HP printer with it. The printer was already setup for our old router; however, (in my excitement) I forgot to disconnect it from the old network before setting up the new network. Our printer was quite confused; however, I was able to reset it and connect it to the new one (with some help from HP!). Just make sure that you disconnect (and "forget" on some devices) your old network settings.PROS:-fast speed-easy setup-many options to choose from in the browser on your computer that may be useful to some people-multiple devices on the same network-ENERGY STARCONS:-none as of now

I wanted these to work, but after a lot of time messing around with settings I never could get a good connection rate even at 90% signal strength I would be experiencing constant connection interruptions while playing back media from my NAS. I read a lot on the netgear forums trying to track down a solution and everything I tried didn't help. There were a lot of people having the same issues and as frustrated as I was. The highest data rate I did see was 144kbps. I finally went back to the on board wireless on my PS3 and I can stream media perfectly with no issues. I'll be sending these units back as they certainly need some development before they are the solution. It could be a bad set but after reading the forums it just seems to common of a problem and I'm not happy with this product

I am running the setup disk and it is supposed to guide me through the installation process. What I get is an error message which tells me that my computer has an unsupported operating system. This router requires Windows Vista. My computer runs on Windows Vista. So, this product is a lemon. I called their technical support. Just so you know, you will be put on hold for a long long time and listen to a whole concert before you hear an automated voice that asks you to leave a phone number for them to reach you. Yeah. This product is now on its way back. I am returning it. When tech support puts you on hold for a long time, it only means that they are so busy because their product has a lot of problems. Do not buy this product. I wish this company files Chapter 11 tomorrow. Goodbye.

I really cannot rate the product as I cannot get logged into the product. I attempted to register the Netgear WNHDE111 and they never send me a reply or confirmation that I have registered. When I try to utilize the device it asks for a password. I tried several renditions but have not been able to get it to work. I called customer service and informed them that I had attempted to login for product registration. They were able to see that but I still have not received a confirmation and even after they stated they would send me another confirmation reply with my password. I still hav not received that reply. This truly may be agreat product but the customer service that Netgear gives is deplorable. Fortunately for me, I have 2wire or I still would not be able to gain access to the internet.I cannot login to the web site to get the proper assistance and when I did talk with one of their representatives they told me the the problem was with 2wire as they don't need a password (the instructions say 'password' is the password but I stgill cannot gain access). That is not true. So presently I have paid for a product I cannot use!!!!I would strongly state that no one should pourchase products from Netgear. They have absolutely the worse customer service. What good is spending your money on something and you cannot use it.

This is the third (and final!) in a series of 802.11n routers I tried over the last few weeks. I upgraded to 'n' since our G router + Linksys Range Expander couldn't effectively reach across our courtyard and into my wife's office. We needed high throughput and reliability in an environment that was tough on the G protocol. There are many houses nearby, so wireless interference is a hindrance and unfortunate reality. With this router, which I discovered through online computer site reviews and other sources, I think we have beaten the system. It works very well, establishes a high-speed, robust connection between the FIOS modem, and also allows other devices to connect with great 'n' connections as well.Overall, I am very pleased with this product. It runs as advertised and has solved our quirky problem.BEWARE, this device only broadcasts on the 802.11n and 802.11a protocols. This is not your everyday router. It will either work with your newest wireless devices (enabled for 802.11n or the very old 802.11a) or you will have to run a second b/g router to work with "older" wireless devices (Tivo, Playstation 3, iPhones etc.). This is not a problem for me, but I didn't think about that before I bought it.Would recommend this product to anyone looking to provide a dedicated, high-speed wireless connection between two important devices, but not as your everyday router.

Our original Netgear router stopped working so we decided to get a Netgear replacement (since we had pretty good experience with the brand).A long story short, our Sys Admin tried getting this thing to work and it just wouldn't operate properly (tried installing multiple times). Our system network is fairly simple too but we couldn't even get a response to a "ping". I should have read the reviews before buying this router. We ended up buying an Apple Airport Extreme and it set-up easily and quickly (along with our Netgear switches). I don't recommend this item.
