Good price for the product, gets better signal than the internal wireless. However I wanted one that would work in linux and this does not work for what I need it. Does work great in windows!

I purchased these 2 units 5/30/2008 and now it's 10/5/2008 and the wireless has stopped working altogether. If you don't believe me, please go to the Netgear support forum to see all the people who has the same problem.Because of the better reviews on here, I ended buying two of this unit to replace my older wireless-G Buffalo Tech. This was a mistake. From the start, the wireless keeps dropping each time I tried to VNC or VPN into my network and I would end up being locked out and until I was able to manually power down the unit and restart it. I've tried upgrading the firmware and still to no avail.Netgear won't accept a return or exchange because its pass the warranty date. I guess I own two large black plastic tower for decoration now.

After seeing so many low-scoring reviews for this product, I was worried I was throwing my money away, despite such a low price.I'm very pleased, to say the least with these Netgear WPNT511 PCMCIA NICs. Certainly an unbeatable price with great performance.The software installation went well on my two Windows XP laptops. After the drivers were installed, it was all plug-and-play from there.I had no trouble getting the cards to work with my Netgear Rangemax Router. In fact, it took less than 5 minutes to go from the box to getting the NICs to work.I'm going to have to acquire more of these.In a nutshell: an excellent value, great performance and so long as you follow the installation instructions to the letter, all will work out just fine.Of course, always make sure your router is properly configured as well.

This is a ok product except its priced too high considering it doesn't have simultaneous dual band N nor does it have USB port(s)! Given that its over priced. If price drops below $75 then it would be a reasonable value.

I was so hopeful about this router... but what a disappointment.The time consuming set up exacerbated by the fact that the darn thing is up and down like a Yo Yo.Now that I have had it for a day not only is it still unreliable but the its slow although it could be due to the previously mentioned up and down behavior.Back to the store tomorrow for this one. My advice...Buy a different router

I've had this router about two weeks now. It hangs practically every night and is a nightmare to reconnect. I have a new HP Vista notebook and while working on the web, it will suddenly disconnect and hang. When I unplug and replug the router, the notebook no longer sees it, so I have to reboot the notebook, sometimes multiple times. If that doesn't work, I have to turn off all of the equipment- modem, firewall/DHCP, switch, and "g" router to get the router and notebook back together.I had to keep my older Netgear "g" router on the network because this one refuses to work with my IBM T42 notebook using "g" technology. It works fine with g on an unsecure network. As soon as I implement the WPA2-Personal security it can't get an IP address from my firewall/DHCP server.Network and Sharing Center was taking so long my HP Vista notebook would show "not responding" before finally opening it. I have never seen that using my older Netgear "g" router.I am returning it tomorrow.

We experienced two major problems with this router:1) Wireless connections are frequently dropped, especially from laptop clients. Updating the firmware seemed to help--the frequency of dropped connections was reduced to every day or two, instead of multiple times per day. But dropped connections once every day or two is still not good.2) The router stopped working altogether after only 25 days. No power light, nothing--just died in the middle of a work day.We're waiting on a replacement unit from Amazon now (26Aug08). Will update review when we've had the replacement unit for a while.[Updated 2011 June] -- The replacement unit had the same problems with dropped connections. We gave up on this and purchased an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. More expensive, but it has proven to be very reliable, fast, and easy to set up.

I purchased the Netgear DGN2000 combination wireless n router and ADSL Modem to upgrade to wireless N. The product was extremely easy to set up. I have had this product for a month now and it works as advertised. The WiFi signal strength is much better in the home with wireless n. I can transfer picture and music files much quicker between computers on my home network.

I was going to give it two stars because it did work ok for a while, but my boyfriend convinced me to give it one, because his argument is that this thing was top of the line and had just came out when we had originally purchased it, and we should never have had so many issues with it for the price we paid, so his logic won me over and one star it is. We didn't even have this router for a year. And as a note - let me say that I work for my cable ISP, doing tech support for internet, so my modem connection has never been the issue because I can check and test my modem from home. We had originally purchased this router as a replacement for our POS Linksys router, but that's a different story.Pros (sort of):Whenever my modem would reboot or update, the router would usually repair the connection, which many routers do not do.When it worked it did work great, It's just that it wasn't very long after we bought it that it stopped working (for wireless). We even got the compatible mimo usb wireless adapter to try and see if it improved the issue, however that was yet another headache (the wireless adapter that is made to be compatible with this router won't connect at the advertised speed without a BETA driver... which would let you connect for about a day and then the adapter would stop functioning altogether. When you tried to reinstall the driver it wouldn't let you - it gave error code 10 and the adapter wouldn't even load the driver so basically the $100+ adapter that is marketed as compatible with this router was completely useless)Cons:After a couple months it would only broadcast the wireless connection sometimes - at random. You could even be connected, it would then kick you off, if you refreshed the network list on ANY wireless computer, it still wouldn't show up until you had refreshed it several times, and then maybe in five mins it *might* let you connect. The router was on the second floor of our house, and the computers we use wirelessly are on the third, directly above it. Our wireless connection was actually so infrequent we had to run an ethernet cord out the window to the router downstairs, because about 85 percent of the time the router would not let you connect wirelessly. Neither resetting to the factory defaults nor firmware updates resolved this issue (nor did several hours with Netgear support, tier 1 and 2...).You can't change the wireless channel to anything other than six if you are using the mimo setting.We finally junked it today for a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 (I'm going to give it a couple months before reviewing, because you never know about the quirks until you've had something for a while). So far the buffalo works great, but their firmware updates are a bit of a process...Pretty much, today I was completely and totally fed up, because for once it was letting a wireless pc on just fine, however every fifteen seconds (like clockwork) on my wired pc (the one running ethernet out the window to the router...) it would say "network cable unplugged"... then within five or ten seconds it would reconnect and let me back online, and then fifteen seconds later it would say "network cable unplugged" again... Imagine over an hour of this... So I junked this netgear.

I bought this router and spent almost 10 hours talking with the NETGEAR and Frontier (DSL provider) technical support teams over two nights. They each blamed the other on the fact it would not configure and allow me to get connected to my work via VPN. In the end it was not worth my time. I sent it back to Amazon and had no problems doing that. I would buy from Amazon.com anytime. But in the end I bought a Belkin N1 and it literally took 1 minute to setup and VPN was working right away. If you only need the internet for play, I'm sure this NETGEAR is just fine. If you need it for work via a VPN connection, I would buy a Belkin.

Hooked bridge up to my router then extender to the room I need internet and room was still dead area. Sent it back for refund and it has been over almost a month without any response from seller or Amazon, I had to email Amazon and was told seller has 6 months to refund money. Product was sent in a timely manner is the only positive thing I can say

AWESOME this device WORKS so fast and easy. I LOVE gadgets, but am not a tech geek so things have to work properly or I'm the helpless girl calling tech support. I used this kit to connect my router to 1) Squeezebox (an A++ music server) thereby vastly exceeding its wireless performance (due to my house's poor network coverage), and 2) DirectTv unit to allow the on-demand feature only available by ethernet connection. Here's how it worked: I plugged one end of the networking kit into my Netgear router and the other (which has two ethernet connections) into the two aforementioned appliances. NOTHING MORE, IT JUST WORKED!!!! THIS IS HOW TECHNOLOGY OUGHT TO BE, BUT SEEMS TO ALWAYS INVOLVE COMPLICATION. Now I'm streaming music without interruption and loving it. I'd say if you have a NETGEAR router, you will probably get the same AMAZING results.

I bought this router as I was told it was the easiest to use. Boy was I wrong. Ended up getting bogged down in complicated instructions each day from their "support" service. When I protested about it, they just passed me to another "engineer". After a week and endless hours trying to set it up, I gave up and bought Belkin instead.

I see several negative reviews here, have to say though in my case the product did exactly what I needed. I have a home router that I did not want to change out, but wanted to add wireless, and this did the trick. For my use case, very easy to set up and use too.

I bought this at such a great price, I may as well have stolen it! When I ordered this I thought I was going to get a piece of junk in the mail or worse yet, not get anything at all because I swore it was a joke. I couldn't believe such a handy little piece of equipment was being sold so cheap! I have been using this since the second I opened the package and I do not have any complaints at all. If you need a wi fi adapter and you are on a budget, then this one is for you!

The Good:It's easy to plug inThe Bad:1. The Driver is just horrid. When you launch the program, it quickly comes up for about half a second, then disappears. If you were really quick, and lucky with the mouse pointer, you could left click on the top pane and hold the program there while it searches for the wireless network. I had to repeat this task every single time I rebooted the computer. Netgear support recognizes this happens, but both of their fixes were ineffective for me.2. Once I made my Wireless network a secure one (WPA-PSK), i was able to enter the proper password (once again by being super quick with my mouse pointer before the program disappeared), and from that point on, the adapter is in a constant state of alternating between "searching for signal", and "signal found", but it will never lock on so there is now no internet.I've tried every fix possible from rebooting, changing the USB port I plug it into, to removing the driver and reinstalling, to searching google for hours trying to find a fix. I've found forums with people having the same problem, but never a fix. I'm not going back to an unsecure network, so now I'm forced to buy a new adapter and will definitely switch brands.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a review about the infamous WNR854T, which a called a beautiful paperweight. Fast-forward to today, I am glad to say that Netgear finally got it right this time. The WNR3500 replaces the WNR854T, in Netgear' lineup of high end home networking. This router has the features the previous one was lacking and it easier to tweak.There is no need to throw away your old router, since one of the new feature included WDS or REPEATER MODE. In this mode the router acts as a repeater, so it rebroadcast the signal amplifying it therefore eliminating dead areas and weak signals. Another new great feature is the wireless security configuration, so no need to remember your password when adding a new device to the network.I am giving if a full five stars"*****" because of its performance and looks.Hopefully with this new model the reliability issues that dogged the 854T are gone, but only time will tell. If not Netgear and you guys will definitely hear from me.

After spending a fair bit of time on these boxes, I decided they were pointless and not worth the time and the money. The speed advantage is not apparent: I compared between this connection and a regular wireless (54Mb) connection, the latter was in fact a tad faster.If it requires some clever configuration to get the speed to be better, as some reviewers have implied, I still wouldn't bother. If it's that fussy, at this price, I'll wait for better wireless technology.I spent quite a bit of time configuring these boxes and troubleshooting connection problems. Let me just say that it isn't trivial, unless you like using default settings, AND if everything works right the first time.Even after that, inexplicably I couldn't get the bridge side to connect to my XP machine (wouldn't get an IP address), although it worked without trouble with my Vista machine. This was the last straw. Although I'm a technology professional, I find myself getting less patient with poorly made, user-unfriendly products. The documentation is atrocious (sketchy trouble-shooting information), and the boxes themselves don't provide much information.(I also find it annoying that you have to count blinking lights to figure out what's happening. Hey, that was acceptable in the 1970s perhaps.)So I wouldn't bother.

I got this for a second PC I built for my son. It took 3 hours to finally get a connection to the wireless router. When I finally did get a connection, the speed would range from 12 Mps to 54 Mps(only for a couple seconds) frequently. Web pages do not display correctly. The router is in the next room less than 30 feet away. The adapter does not fit snugly in the USB port. The extension cord does nothing to increase the signal. In all, a very poor user experience.

I used XE102 and WGX102 earlier and they worked great until the WGX102 burned out -- I went through that course a couple of times then gave up -- recently, I tried again since I have a house that I can't get signal to certain rooms with Linksys repeater due to distance but this time around I installed brand new units and they didn't work at all -- I tried everything I could to make them work but to no avail -- I couldn't figure out if it didn't work because I have new router (WRT54G) or if it was that new Netgear just didn't work -- finally, I realized that I was plugging the XE102 off of the UPS power panel and the WGX102 off of the non-UPS power panel (the house has two separate wiring systems, with one backed up with Uninterruptible Power Supply) while the other is only supplied by the power company -- when I moved them to the same circuit, everything worked great. Lesson learned is that isolated power wiring systems prevent the units from working properly. I now have Linksys repeaters and Netgear equipment all working fine. (By the way, I would change the rating I gave unit to 5 stars but I can't seem to get back to star rating as I am updating my review)

This category of products - wireless usb adapters - seems pretty new, as it is not yet plug-and-play compatible (it needs a software CD), and it has spotty connectivity. This adapter has fairly bad reviews, but compared to its competitors, you wont find too many better products.Installation was a pain - after spending hours trying to install it (on Vista), I finally figured out a way to make it work. And when it does work, it is very fast - so no problems there.However, it does not automatically start after waking the computer from sleep mode, and heats up after only an hour of use (or of idleness). Whenever it shuts off, you have to unplug it and plug it in again, and pray it works! Overall, though, it is a decent product that is well worth trying out.

Three years and running. The wg302 is excellent. Of, course early on, I had to wait for bug fixes and enhancements via updates to the firmware. But overall this item is excellent. I cannot understand the low ratings of others. I wonder if you just have network configuration issues. Some knowledge is required to configure a WAP within a network. You must understand a little about radio and interference too! Using 802.11g near other 2.4Ghz radios is very tricky. Even a microwave can cause performance issues.BTW, I'm not moving to 802.11n till NetGear has stabilized the firmware. I won't need to run in dual mode because I can leave the wg302 in place to cover the legacy wireless gear.
