In the past I have taken walkie talkies to the State Fair and they were unusable because of all the chattering going on. I brought the Midland GXT1000VP4 radios to the fair and randomly selected a channel and privacy setting. They worked perfectly. Not one other person broadcasted on the same channel (200,000 people in attendance). We could hear each other crystal clear. You either get a crystal clear signal or no signal at all with these radios; there is never any static. They lasted the whole day on one charge and the battery indicator still read full.
The only complaint that I have is when putting them on the charger, it takes a bit of menuvering to get the charge light to go on...and I have had it go off after about 15 minutes before. In that case I reseated the one radio again and the light stayed on for the whole charging period.

I like the Walkies but they lack the range, its states 30+ miles but it barely reaches 2 miles, and I live in flat lands, Trees, no hills or valleys. Its great for the kids for play. Its got that toy-ish feel to it. Hey for 50 bucks it came with allot of gear, head sets, stand/changer, batteries, it comes fully loaded. If your looking for a good Walkie Talkie, this may not be for you.

I recently purchased these radios after our 2-year old Motorolas were stolen. We use the radios exclusively for RVing (communicating between driver and spotter when maneuvering). The audio on these radios is MUCH better than the previous Motorolas. Menu functions seem to be a bit more intuitive as well.
The only negative I have found is "range", or lack thereof. Midland advertises 36 miles. (Yeah, I know, that's on a straight shot with nothing in between, but how many of us really use them under those conditions!) In the real world we were able to transmit about 1 mile.
I knew this limitation going in, so I wasn't disappointed.
The radios work well for our purposes.

Bought these so when i went hunting i can acually call my wife, i live in the country side so not to many obsticles in the way, she works 5 miles from my house, i figured 36 miles WOW i should definitly pick her up from 5 miles with little abstaction, NO WAY, Not even Close. i think they doged out about 1 mile up the road. so people dont listen to false reviews on products that just arnt what they say they are... I give this 1 star for lies and false advertisement, i will however give it a 3 for short range pick up

This is an excellent product. Much better quality than the Cobra FRS/GMRS radios they replaced. Great features, durable construction, easy to program, and good quality audio. You can't go wrong with these for backcountry communication!

By far these are the best radio's I have ever bought. I have always bought motorolla radios in the past and the range was never great. This hunting season I was able to communicate clearly with my father who was over a mile away!! And this was not an open field. My father was in the woods up on a hill and I was able to talk to him at our cabin. I love these radio's.

The range and soud quality on these are much better than the Motorolas that I have been using. Unlike those other radios, they are compatible with all of the other ones that that people I know use. The one problem that I had with them is BOTH of the headsets had the same problem, the button that you use to talk with broke, so now I have to spend $30 to get new ones.

There is a problem with the design, both of my units have an issue when you press the radio near the microphone, it transmits. Sometimes do not let you configure the radio because when I press the front keys it exits the configuration mode (Like when you press the PTT key).
Had to open the unit, insert a dielectric between the mic and the PCB and shave some plastic that make pressure over the mic.
Now the units can be used normally.

I used it in the mountains hunting elk and was able to talk 6 miles over a hill. I also used it in heavy wooded areas in northern Minnesota. 1 mile begins to stretch it in the heavy timber and brush. It works for me. I have 10 mile radios that only go 1/4 of a mile in heavy timber so I'm happy. How about a heavy timber rating!

Product was better then expected. I have bought various radios before including Cobra and wasted my money on these poor performers which will not reach out as they claim.
This product does the job. My hunting buddy just ordered one and is glad he had seen mine and tried it out and was impressed with the features.
He is now a proud owner of this product as well as I am.

The only thing I would improve is the Vox (voice activation) there is a general lag so you have to get used to losing the first word you say to open the mic...then its crystal clear after that.
Best feature would being able to charge them in the truck with the 12volt and maybe the cradle holder as it makes the truck charging even more convenient.

I owned a pair from the leading competitor to midland and even at the same rating for range, could not receive or transmit through heavy urban obstruction from inside a vehicle for more than a mile. This Model was able to do both at 3 miles with the added problem of multiple Ham radio transmitters in line with my signal. In open country, The signal carried for a measured 12 miles, and that, because the radios were not farther apart. for $80. How can you go wrong when considering all the features and the performance.

i bought this radio to talk to my family when we are out in the wood. The fact it says it works upto 36 miles, that is only if you are in Desert with no blocking mountain or building. however, in the city this radio worked upto 3 miles.
I love the fact that you can use Alkaline batteries or rechargeable. You never need to buy battery. It comes with rechargeable stand which can even charge your AA recahargable batterries beside its own included battery. It has alot of futures. Over all it is nice collection for those who like to go outdoor activity. advertise 36 miles, where it should say 6 miles.

I used these radios in the rain and in the freezing wind and snow. Great product! It is everyting I expected and more! The weather channels are an added bonus, and the whisper feature is excellent for when I am hunting.

More than met expectations. Easy to use, easy to charge, durable, and come with a good selection of accessories. Now, I have not used these at 36 miles, but I have used them at 5 miles in town, which is pretty good. Well worth the price.

This radio set is very nice and easy to use, it comes in handy while hunting when it is a two person trip. They are also very nice to be able to comunicate when needed. Range is not as advertised due to its size and capability for transmitting, so that was not an issue. I was very happy with the results of this set and look forward to many more years of use with this during hunting season and other projects.

My husband and I go gold panning in California when the snows melt. We are never in an area that has cell reception so we decided to invest in a two-way radio. We tend to wander away from each other so these have been very useful locating one another. Have only used them twice but are pleased with the reception, the hands free operation and the crystal clear signals.
I'm hoping we never have to use them in an emergency but at least we'll have them ... just in case.

These radios are the best, very light weight, excellent signal and a very long battery life even in high signal mode. the charger is very compact and efficient and the headsets are very comfortable. And the price is great.

Presently surprised with radios. I have a Harley so I had to adjust the sensitivity levels for voice activation. Motor noise interfered at #1 setting. Had to adjust to 7 in order for radio to work with activation. Wife was in house, and we talked for about 1.5 miles. Bought mainly so we could communicate when she is a passenger on bike. Very good for this purpose..

The Midland GXT1000VP4 50-Channel 36-Mile Waterproof is a good radio. But like everything it has things that do not work as well as it is described. Like the range is great as long as there is NOTHING in the way between the people you are talking to. It works to about 3 miles in a city and maybe 10 miles on the freeway. The rechargeable batteries work very well. So all in all it is a very good buy.

The size and shape could be improved to gain more portability and handling;
The single-direction hook isn't as functional as those who can spin so the device may drop when you seat or so;
It would be appreciated if the photos also show a escale so the customer may have an idea of the actual size of this product (I myself bought them assuming the devices were smaller).
