This is the fourth webcam for me (in addition to the ones I've bought as gifts). At the office, I have a Microsoft VX-3000; I got the VX-5000 to replace a Logitech I had been using on my laptop. It is much smaller than I expected, but it gets the job done. Compared to my others, the picture is a slight bit grainier, but even in fairly low and contrasty light, it compensates beautifully and provides a clean, colorful picture with well-balanced contrast. Loading the program and setting it up was a snap.I am impressed. I plan to take it with me to Europe (it's small enough to fit with its cord in a half-sandwich bag) and use it from Internet Cafes to keep in touch with my secretary via Skype.For the money, it meets all my expectations. Buy it!

This webcam was immediatewly recognized by the PC. Color balance not the best, though. Easily configurable base to rest on any monitor. Works well with Skype.

It is a horrible product. I bought and i had a lot of problems just installing it. Finally after installing it, the image resolution was horrible so i had to struggle with the webcam until finally i got a good image. After 2 weeks it just stopped working , i red the manuals, went to the microsoft website and tried everything they tell you to do and i could not fixed it. Off course you can call a technician from microsoft but they will charge you 35 dollars.In summary , this is not a good product. Not for this price. I feel i was robbed

I bought this webcam thinking, like everyone else, that it'd be reliable.It's quite reliable, but I thought that the range of focus was disappointing.When you get close to the webcam, it gets blurry pretty quickly. To be honest, it's a wide problem. I found that to be true with Logitech products as well, which is why I had attempted a switch. The only webcam that has made me happy with macro is the IPEVO PoV, and that's because it's got a manual focus.Why good focus is important: well, I chat a lot. But also, I sell some jewelry on eBay. My little beads aren't diamonds, so I have to be able to show a little tutorial on my bracelets with a webcam that'll get close enough as I'm explaining why I like my bracelets.So verdict: ok for chatting, not too sturdy in my backpack, and focus range is disappointing, especially if you're considering showing objects up close.

Easy to install and setup. Light weight can put it most anywhere on my desk. Cord is just the right length. Snapshots are good with the right light. Price was good too.

Just not easy to install and the worst resolution ever. I got this so I could chat with my boy overseas in England, but to no avail. We could barely get it installed. And let me tell you when my teenager can't figure it out, it's not going to get done. She had to go to the Microsoft site and Google help a number of times to figure out what to do next. Not plug and play whatsoever. But most alarming was the poor video quality. We paid more for the Big Brand and what a disappointment. Totally blurry and no definition at all.

Below is my review of the camera but I just want to "up" the rating to four stars. I've got more bugs worked out of the camera and it does work pretty well. Below was written before the bugs were cleared up.Received the webcam but the wire was loose and wouldn't record the voice with a video some of the time. The quality of the voice was lower in pitch and lagging behind a one minute (saved to my hard drive) video by about one second. I didn't know if the camera was the cause of the audio delay, considering the fact that the wire was loose. Received a replacement (great Amazon service) and the audio is still delayed behind the video and the pitch of the voice is still too low, when I save the video to file! (I haven't tested the camera with Live Messenger yet.) But I did try to hook up a small, independent microphone and use that as the primary audio and the saved videos are really good. The voice is now in sync with the video and the voice is at the correct pitch. I have a Dell E 1705 and don't know if the computer is the cause of the continued NX 6000 audio problems or if the camera needs a driver fix. The picture in 640/480 resolution is really nice but anything over that and you see a noticeable decline in quality. When using the highest resolution setting, the frame rate is slowed way down so I won't even bother to use anything over 640/480 for my videos. The still picture capture quality is not as good as if you used your regular digital camera so I will only use that once-in-a-while. I gave the camera 3 stars because of the audio problems, because I had to return the first camera, and because even though the camera boasts high resolution, that doesn't measure up. But again, the video quality in 640/480 pixels is really nice---although my skin color is shaded a little too blue or purple and I can't adjust that. But from what I've read about most other webcams out there, their video quality isn't as good as this camera. I will now talk to a Dell representative to see if there is a fix for the audio problems through Dell. If there isn't, I'll still keep the camera because the small, plug in microphone works just fine. Wish there was better support for this camera through Microsoft! Jerry

I've had the VX-6000 for about 2 weeks now and overall I've been very happy with it. Installation is very simple and straightforward. I bought one for myself and one for my parents and my mother was even able to get it installed and working. My only complaint is that when I tried using this webcam with Yahoo IM, the picture quality was not as high as when I used it with Windows Live and the video kept freezing. As long as I use it with Windows Live it works well and delivers a nice video quality. With that said, I think this webcam is a great deal for what Amazon was charging. Best Buy and Circuit City were selling it for about 20 dollars more and I don't know that it is worth that much.

I give the product 5 stars, works great with both microsoft live messenger IM as well as Yahoo IM. Picture quality is very good. I really like the graphics that you can add to your pictures to make them more personal and not just another picture. It works well in both taking still pictures as well as video. I use this product almost daily. At the Amazon price point well worth it.

fits snugly to the top of a flat screen desktop monitor, quality of image is acceptable. a little bulky for what it is supposed to do, but overall a fine product. recommend but only if you are willing to pay the slightly higher price mandated by microsoft.

I BOUGHT THIS WEBCAM SO I CAN TALK TO MY FREINDS. I ORDERED IT ON THE 12TH OF LAST MONTH AND I NEVER GOT IT. SO FAR I'M NOT HAPPY WITH THE MAKER OF THIS PRODUCT. IM A FIRST TIME BUYER WITH THIS COMPANY SO FAR THE FIRTS IMPRESSION WASN'T A GOOD ONE. ALSO I FOUND OUT THAT THE CAM WAS RETURNED TO THE SELLER. AT LEAST I GOT A RE-FUND.BUT IF I WERE TO BUY THIS CAM AGAIN IT WOULD BE FROM SOME ONE ELS.

I bought this primarily for the price, quality of video and microphone, I used this for skype and yahoo messenger...If you will just use it for home use I highly recommend this webcam. I have no regrets!

Don't bother. I didn't buy the camera, i actually won it, and boy do I wish I could return it. I use vista and I get nothing but problems. Sound is out of sync, the software is horrendously crappy (not even all of the options work. How can it have options I can't configure when this was supposed to be top of the line?).Save your money and get a logitech or something.

It is so easy to install. Now I can talk and see my family at the same time. Everyone lives in different states and it feels like they're in your home. The picture and voice are very clear. Well worth the money.

This web cam works well. But, it is hard to intall it because of poor driver. Except that one, it is one of best web-cam. To be caucious, its microphone is very sensitive.

First time webcam user, running on Windows XP machine, setup was straight forward, no errors, after setup was complete,went Microsoft download center and got the most recent version, downloaded same, installed, and rebooted, ran,that simple. By the way the product arrived on time as descibed . Very happy, I have always had a good experience with Amazon.Dan

I used default settings. 640x480.What I like:+ the small size+ I have been told picture quality is very good at the other end (I have used it with Skype only)+ the built in mic - works well, although on some Skype calls, there was feedback from the speakers to the recipient. Mic works well from a distance. Also when the mic is on the Microsoft logo lights up which is a good visual cue.+ spring loaded camera - when its in, you are guaranteed privaceWhat I don't like:- One very annoying negative: this webcam mic has no echo cancellation. after many complaints from people at the other end of the line, I finally disabled the mic in the webcam and now use another mic.- the spring loaded clip is difficult to adjust and feels like it could break. Having said that it will hold on my beveled edge Dell Inspiron laptop which also has a plastic colour plate- inability to easily swivel or tilt (you have to do it via the software using combination of zoom, pan and tilt functions)- when I first installed it, the sound received via Skype was constantly being cut off. I uninstalled the LifeCam software as well as MS Live Messenger, then re-installed LifeCam software only. Works fine now, but not always reliably...- there is a button on top of the cam which is hard to avoid pressing when you move the camera. This button starts MS Live Messenger if installed and if not then it throws up an annoying window asking you to install Live Messenger. This is very irritating. One should be able to disable the button or re-assign it to another application. Wake up Microsoft....- the USB cable is too short (about 1.5ft). If you want to pan around the room or place the cam elsewhere - the cable could be too short. Not a big deal though.- LifeCam software (v1.21.113.0) can be a bit buggy....e.g. I have just lost half the picture (the screen only displays the left 33%, the rest is all white...!)but picture is fine at 2 mp resolution. Unpluggng and re-plugging in the USB fixes this.- no way of adjusting the frame rate although this adjustment does not seem necessaryNice to have- it would be nice to have a sound cue for whenever the mic or camera come on in addition to the light comming on the front- an additional flexible stand so that the webcam can be placed on a desk or some other surface would be a great thing to have - they can dump the carry case to keep costs down and add better value.So far I have only used it with Skype. I will test it with Yahoo and MSN Messenger when I have the time.

Well, I don't have anything against Microsoft and believe that the mouse I recently purchased from them is probably the best I've ever owned, but I returned this LifeCam to the store that I bought it from today. I wanted to upgrade and the video resolution certainly was a vast improvement over what I was using before. Yet I can definitely affirm that the sound issue is present and very serious indeed. Perhaps the other fellows and I just got defective models through the luck of the draw, but there was nothing I could do to eliminate the noise. As I spoke the audio got intermittently interrupted with a loud buzzing which was several decibels louder than my own speech. When I looked, there was nothing wrong with the control panel settings and there was no conceivable explanation for it. I moved my mouse to another USB port perhaps thinking that it was somehow interfering with the recording but this proved fruitless. After much frustration I drove down the street and returned it. There was nothing more to be done. If I were you I would not risk spending this much money on a model that has given so many other people such clear-cut problems.
