I wasn't impressed with this Cam. The 1000 and 3000 are comparable in many aspects (according to there specs on the boxes). I chose the 1000 since it was 10 dollars less (29 bucks).It works fine on Yahoo, but the clarity sucks. Maybe it was just mine, but I had a Logitech 4000 and it was crystal clear. Perhaps the resolution is lower. For whatever the reason, I wasn't happy with it, and I returned it.

I purchased this for someone as a gift...no complaints so far so I am assuming it works well. Price very comparable to any other offer for the same.

THE WEBCAM WAS VERY EASY TO SET-UP. I HAD A LITTLE PROBLEM WITH TRYING TO GET IT TO SET ON TOP OF THE MONITOR BUT HAVE WORKED THAT OUT.

Bought this camera as an "upgrade" for an older L***tech laptop web cam. What a waste of money! The picture on this thing is horrible! Even though the specs on this camera are much better, my older camera's video is waaay better. The video from this hunk-o-junk is very blurry and grainy. The sound seems to be okay, but I never really paid attention because the video was so bad. M$ makes decent keyboards and mice, but if this is the best web cam they can make, they need to get out of this market. I'll stick with L***tech.

I purchased a Microsoft LifeCam VX-6000 webcam because I wanted to avoid conflicts with the Windows operating system, and because Microsoft is at least as reputable as the rest of my operating system. (Also, IMHO, they did a heckuva good job on Excel, for all its little quirks, what with VBA macros and the solver.) This was evidently the top of the MS line, so I figured it was a good webcam.The first problem I had was the requirement for a system update, so I went to the the MS support site, and found a document on the patch telling me to install the latest service pack. Now I update my system every two months, and I was due, so I followed the instructions. A couple of hours later, while MS presumably scrutinized everything on my system (and found it legal, because it scrupulously is, because I believe it should be as a matter of principle) the next installation attempt produced exactly the same results. Found another document (there were scores), followed its instructions, and installation proceeded.I went along hitting the agree buttons until, in the installation of some sort of fancy toolbar, I came upon an option to read a privacy statement. On a whim, I did so. So glad I made that choice! Ever read Orwell's 1984? There's the Ministry of Truth, and the Ministry Peace. Now there's Microsoft's Privacy Statement. My God! You have to agree to resident spyware to use this thing! Bless you, Bill and Melinda for all your good works, but gimme a break! Noooooooooooo! You may NOT install that alien malevolence on my machine! I refused the statement, but installation of other stuff continued. (Hey! Sometime it works; sometimes it don', right?)Tried the thing. At first, it seemed to work passing well. It was jerky, but OK. Then I tried the video capture, which was the feature I had really wanted. Ya know, I sorta expected in this day and age with 3.2 (or 2.8 in my case) billion (note the B) instructions per second, that video would be synchronized with sound. Not even close. It didn't look like anyone had even attempted to do anything in this direction. Like "OK! Ship it!"So... How am I supposed to rate the LifeCam VX-6000? It's a piece of junk, isn't it? Note that this is my second day with it, and I could find a setting at any moment that clears this all up, in which case I will edit the content and change the rating. But... if this review is several weeks old, that didn't happen.

I have a thinkpad Z61M and a dell 30" LCD, both of which are too thick to accommodate this webcam's standard mounting clamp. Seriously, if I have to use velcro to use it on these items I imagine it probably doesn't clamp to much outside of a Macbook air. Sigh.

I was initially excited about this cam, but after installation, I quickly realized it was a bad investment. It is easy to install and set-up, but the constant static makes it unbearable to have a conversation what-so-ever. We actually have to put the camera as far away from the computer to reduce the noise, but even then, it is still readily apparent. And, since it is on the side, you have the camera shooting the side of you while you look at the computer. There is also a very loud echo. The video quality is also lacking for a camera of this price. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for a camera.

Worked as described, right out of the box, as long as your using Microsoft software. It has issues when using Yahoo messenger, has to go back to Microsoft Messenger.ThanksTom

I paid for this web camera $37. Quality is good as soon as camera not more than 2 feet's from you. Other wise if you getting fuser from camera, quality falling. Be careful with microphone, it is very sensitive and picking all noses around. It you worried about how much you want to pay for camera it will be nice pick, but if you do not care of price than find something better.

I have bought many things in amazon, and this one is the first time that something does not work correctly.I tested the camera in 3 different computers and the result is the same .... only noise when I use the microphone of the camera.I return to my old USB camera.BAD, BAD CHOICE.

My family and I just relocated 3 states away from our extended family and wanted to get a good webcam to keep in touch with everyone and let our 2 year old see his grandmother once and a while. When I saw the Microsoft LifeCam at Target stores and that it was compatible with Windows Live I thought it would be worth the $100 price tag to be able to keep in touch with family.I purchased the software and started the installation process on my computer. Just so you know, my system is running a Pentium 4 processor and has 8 active USB 2.0 connections, only 3 of which are being used for the keyboard, mouse, and this webcam, along with 512MB of RAM which is more than necessary for this product to function.The software took about 10 minutes to install which I thought was a little odd, then it asks for you to plug in the camera. My XP system recognized the camera but told me that the hardware had encountered an error during installation and may not function properly. I uninstalled the software and tried the installation again with the same result. I then tried a different USB port just in case there was a problem. Following a stepwise process I checked and updated all drivers for the USB hub, ports, etc. and I checked under the system manager tools to ensure that all were working properly. I then went to the Microsoft website and downloaded the updates for the software (this took another 15 minutes and the site crashed twice).By now I was getting very frustrated but hoped that the software update would allow appropriate connectivity with the camera. I went into the software and found that it was recognizing the mic, but it said that there was no camera attached. I again tried to find the camera through other means with no results.For the price paid and the 3+ hours I spent trying to install the hardware I can say with all assurity that this product is not worth it. I will be returning it to Target for a full refund and will look into investing my money with another brand.As someone else said earlier in the reviews, "does Microsoft ever send their products through Quality Assurance before they release them?"

We bought one for ourselves and one for my parents who live out of state so they can see their grandkids. Ours installed fine, but my parents are still having difficulties. For some reason Internet Explorer doesn't want to work on their Windows based computer. They have been using Firefox because of the problem. This wouldn't be a problem, but the Lifecam is a Microsoft product and requires Explorer. Here we are a month after Christmas and we still haven't been able to use it so I can't give any more of a review.

Its a nice web cam, but its just a web cam.Face tracking doesnt work on highest resolution. The best luck i everhad with a web cam was to use a video card with capture (ATI) and my handy cam. Nothing still touches that.

Ok i already own the VX-1000 and loved it so i decided to get a new one and i knew it would have to be a lifecam so i bought the VX-6000 and what a difference, i have a wider span and a higher quality picture, if you are willing to spend the money this cam is well worth it!!

I splurged and got myself a fancy new camera to replace my old Logitech and should have known better than to buy Microsoft. I've spent about an hour trying to get it working but I can't get any video - mic works fine and the camera thinks it's working, but all I get is a black screen. Returning it to get a Logitech or Creative. I'm running XP Pro on an HP with an AMD 3500+ proc.

Hi,This is first time I am writing review on internet in my life. My suggesstion is please dont weaste your money and time for this product. I bought this webcam couple of days ago. It looks very attarctive and its features seems very good but when I install all the required softwares and start webcam it gives me "Initilization error". Then I searched Microsoft website and I found that thousands of customer facing this problem and the solution which I saw on Microsoft site is not working at all.Then I called microsoft product support team. They spent 2 hours to fix this error. They took the control of my laptop through netmeeting and tried all the different settings but same error comes.Finally support team advised me to send back this product to Microsoft and they will give your money back.So overall its just weasting your time and money in courier...PLEASE DON'T BUY....ThanksRits

I have tried this camera on three different computers. All of them have 1 GB RAM or more, have at least a 2 GHz processor, and are running Windows XP Professional w/ the latest updates. Motion on the camera is incredibly slow and blurry. I have tried multiple screen resolution settings, and I found that the camera is basically unusable at 1024x768. You have to set your screen resolution to 600x800 in order to get it work, but the camera video is very slow and blurry. I have tried various camera settings, and I have had no luck with those changes. I was hoping I was doing something wrong, as everyone else seems to think this is one of the best cameras on the market, but alas, the camera is not performing well for me.

High quality images and video for the price paid and the compact design. I was disappointed in the limits to the Microsoft software. No motion detection available was very disappointing.

I hooked it up and it works fine. But it only seems to work with Windows Messenger, and I primarily use yahoo. It's probably a case of me not reading all the fine print before I purchased it, but shouldn't all webcams work with whatever program accesses it? It doesn't make sense that it only works with WM.The positive notes are it's very small and sits nicely on my flatscreen monitor. I just wish it would work in the way I want it to. I mean, my HP printer doesn't require I use all HP software to use it. I can hit print in any application and it will work. Why doesn't this work the same way?

I purchased this since it was Vista Certified. Immediately I had to download a new version of software (177 MBs) since there were "known compatibility issues with Vista". This is a Microsoft product running (or wanting to run) on a Microsoft operating system. Install hung up trying to install version 1.3 and I haven't been able to reinstall (need to uninstall before re-installing although it never installed and doesn't show up in the Control Panel add or remove program list ... since it never completed the install process.) This is going to be a huge waste of time to get this either on or off my computer. Why or why did I think a Microsoft product would work on a Microsoft operating system and the fact that the box said it worked with Vista meant anything at all.

Великолепно

This web cam works great on my HP ZD8230 laptop with 17 inch screen. I have had no problems at all with it. I has awesome resolution and is very compact. I have had no hardware or software issues with this product.
