I bought this product to learn to do education video podcasts for an elementary classroom. I was using this in conjunction with Vlog It and a green screen. It worked really well, and I was impressed with the clarity of the video. I was a bit disappointed by the color and tone options. I had to rely on Vlog It to color correct. The problem was that I am very fair, and for whatever reason, me against a green screen reflected the green onto my skin. It was a bear of a problem. I kept adjusting lighting and settings in the program to make it so that I did not disappear a bit with the green screen. But if you are looking for a decent and affordable camera, this is a good one to start with.

Don't need to down-load software if you plan to use for Skype. Just plug it in an avoid all the Microsoft software.

I did a lot of research before choosing a web cam. After much reading and finding good reviews on this web cam I made my purchase and I am very please to say I made a good choice. It gives a good clear picture, good video and the price is right!

Nice product and the service was good.One little thing was that the shipping box was broken at one of the corners when delivered to my house. The good thing is that airbags was filled in the box, so the product is working fine.Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 (Blue)

Good solid mid-range webcam. The video quality was better than I expected for the price. It was pretty much plug and play on Windows Vista. I've had no problems to speak of, and would definitely recommend this product.

This is not a good product. There is a static on the line while in use on Skype. Video works,but because of the static I was forced to use the VX-3000 by Microsoft.

I like the wide angle lens and low light capablities. Works great and installed great. It seem to do a lot that I have not take time to figure out. I use it to Skpe with wmy grand daughter

My cam arrived today, and it took little time to set up. I have Vista, and the installation went smoothLy. I use msn live messenger, and it worls reat wit it. I don't know about how it works with other messengers. I don't understand that some people say there is too much ad ware and stuff downloaded with the cd. I had no such problem. It is small, but works the same as a larger cam. I like that. Pictures are not as clear as they could be. You can't beat this little cam for the price.

I bought two of this based on other reviews and not happy at all.It cannot adapt to lighting changes in the room properly.The "fun base" is not good enough to keep camera fixed and stable.The button on it is a joke, as it works only with Windows Live Messenger and is annoying, suggesting to install Windows Live Messenger every time you accidentally touch it.The Microsoft LifeCam software installation is a nightmare and may take an hour if all you got is a basic DLS connection, because it downloads and installs .Net Framework which is a big software package. I am not sure why they did not put it on the software CD that comes with the item. It would definitely fit on the CD.The software installation will end up with an error if you are connected to Internet through proxy server. Fortunately, you do not need the software if you run Windows XP, it is required for Vista only.

I was thinking of buying a higher end webcam with higher resolution, but after reading the reviews decided to try the VX-5000 instead. It's incredibly versatile, reasonably unobtrusive in a fashionable kind of way, has excellent audio and video. I'm so happy with it we bought two more for relatives so they could chat with us on Skype.

I got this because of the combined microphone and the higher resolution camera. In the end, I'm not sure if it would be worth the extra price of this over the VX-3000, but I'm happy with the product. I love the web camera. The zoom and effects are pretty cool. It is real easy to turn face tracking on and off. The face tracking does seem to work. The effects are not. My kids get a kick as I can make an effect of stars, it will make stars twinkle in the web view. It does hang on a laptop no sweat or a LCD panel monitor. There is a twist so you can focus as well.The microphone is only as good as your environment. It does seem to pick up noise from old monitor-CRT, and may be better off with a LCD monitor with no interference.The camera came with old driver software. You have to go download driver software. This is the other reason I bought this camera. Microsoft support. I could find the latest drivers to download very easily and they installed great. Easy to check for updates. I'm pretty sure Microsoft will continue to update the drivers.What I don't like. The product is microsoft centric. When you start up your computer it works well if you plan to use Live Call or Messenger. It has a one click button. That can be painful. That feature is not helpful and almost annoying. When I move the camera and if I accidently touch the top button it cycles and has to start Messenger/Live Call.Skype-yes it works with skype, wouldn't trade Skype for anything else.

Length:: 1:44 MinsThis camera is worth buying in this price range for people who generally use Windows Live products (messenger, etc) and normally do basic web cam sessions with a resolution no greater than 640 x 480. If you'd like to do full screen video using other software like Skype, you'll want to get a higher end Microsoft camera or something like the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 (my favorite). I've been using the Quickcam Pro 9000 for the past year and have really liked it, however, it seems to be at least double the price of this MS camera. One downside to this Microsoft camera is that the microphone can be a bit faint and the sound can be a bit off. That said, unless you have high expectations for crystal clear web cam chats, then I can certainly recommend this camera for people mainly interested in ease of use with Windows Live Messenger and other Instant Messaging programs. It was easy to install and is extremely easy to use. I recorded this video in 320x240 resolution using the included software. Thanks and have fun shopping!

My children spent a few hours tonight playing on the web cam. They especially loved the silly special effects. For example, you can distort your face by making your mouth and teeth really big, or add bunny ears and a nose to your face, or wear sunglasses. There are several dozen special effects included. The cartoon special effects will follow your face, so if you move they'll move with you.The sound quality was pretty good, we even used the webcam to record the kids playing the guitar and keyboard. The video was also clear and adjusted to the various lighting conditions we tried and even in very low light the camera did a great job.At this price, Microsoft has made it affordable to buy a few of these for distant family members such as grandparents and cousins. It's a lot more fun than talking on the phone! This webcam also can record voice only, video and voice, or take still pictures with the included software.My only complaint is that I wish the webcam had included a travel bag, as many of the other webcams have.

This was exactly what I needed....no more....no less. I didn't need a lot of "bells and whistles" and this works just great! Easy to install and use. Amazon also had the best price I could find.

There is a Picture folder created in the My Documents folder for any stills that are taken, but no additional third party or junk programs accompany the installation, which is as easy as it gets. Highly recommended Camera for all skill levels of users.

Purchase MS Lifecam VX-5000 for laptopPro: Great Price, Very good picture quality (even in low light), built in mic also works fineCon: Add on software is slow and very basicOverall: It works as CNet and other tech site stated: great webcam for the price range but webcam application that comes with it isn't anything special but it does the job. Works fine with MS Instant Messanger for video conferencing. I use it for online video chat with family over sea without any issues. I would recommend it

This is a great quality webcam for the price. The flexible base makes an easy mount for any screen. Works (obviously) in Windows, AND in Ubuntu 9.04 in Skype (mic works too). Is UVC Compliant.Clear picture, crisp sound, an all around great cam.

This Cam works great and the small size is very convenient, however the attachment piece does not open large enough to fit on larger monitors. Made for laptop monitors only! Suggest an attachment be offered with the device for use on any monitor width or to sit on top. Attaching to a larger monitor with" Two Face Tape" does not cut it!

This won't even fit a Think Pad X61 notebook! I use it on a desktop PC (I had to put velcro on it. What was Microsoft thinking when they designed this? I didn't install the software since I don't use Live. I just plugged it in and it works fine.
