This cam is one of the best I have found with a price tag under three digits.It produces smooth video when both recording and webcasting. Works great even in low-light conditions. (carries excellent image capture with 120 watts of light at 45 degrees to the left and approximately 10 feet away)Haven't fully checked out the internal microphone yet, but the one time I used it, it picked up audio very good over a television set in the same room.Careful when adjusting the vertical angle though, the top is a button to a microsoft chat site, but it allows you to stop it before entering, so it is a minor convenience, if at all.All in all, a great webcam!Update 10-24-2010:Still Using this cam and it is still great!

Over all it is not an bad cam. Just that I have to unplug it n plug back quite a lot to make it work for MSN. Video is pretty clear though.

I like the clarity that this webcam gives and I love the portability as well. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a new webcam for their laptop.

This webcam is the best that I've used. It has a high MP level so the picture is really good. The problem with it is that the clip is pretty small.

If you read the description of this item, it does exactly what it says it does. It's not the greatest cam in the world, but if you just want to get on every once in a while and say hello to family members, then this will work. It would get 5 stars if it clipped to the monitor a little better. Simple to use and install.

I use this in conjunction with Windows Messenger, as it was intended, and it works beautifully. If I've any complaints, it's that the picture is so good that it brings home my need to get more exercise!

Our family has been using the Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 for weeks now, and we are very pleased with it. We also have a Microsoft VX-1000 and can say that this VX-5000 is definitely higher quality, and the sound is better.The video is pretty clear, though don't be expecting a crystal clear picture on the receiving end. I only know this because my kids and I get on the desktop computer and my laptop and "video" back and forth lolThe microphone works great. I like how this works as our microphone in other applications also.Love the YouCam software. We have so much fun making crazy videos or taking snapshots with super huge eyes, huge noses, etc.The base is bendable, which I thought I would like a lot better, but it's just okay. It always seems like it's going to fall off the monitor, cause it's just resting on it.Overall, I'm very pleased with the webcam - especially for the price.

One of my main objectives in getting a camera was to have a clear picture in lower light and to have a wider angle view than my previous camera. I do not like it when I have to have the camera placed three feet away to see more than just my face on the screen. When I read that there was a zoom on this camera I figured this camera would fit the bill. It turns out that you can zoom in quite a bit to see my face even closer but the wide angle capabilities are not very good. The lighting does seem to be adjustable to an acceptable level using the software. Overall, I expected more from this camera but maybe I am just expecting too much.

The software is nothing very useful to me. This works well with the MSN Live Messenger fine. Resolution seems fine and this is mostly a satisfying camera as a webcam. If you want to use this to discretely view things using it as a streaming webcam the lighted microsoft emblem might draw attention to this camera. Alternately that informs you that the thing is working as well, so depending on your needs, that may be good or bad.I would buy this again.

This webcam works well and for the price on Amazon was a real bargain compared to Walmart, which wanted nearly double. Video quality is very good, setup easy and the software that comes with it works well and has lots of special effects. I would buy again.

I bought two of these webcams - one for my parents and one for me. When I tried to install the software on my parents' computer, the installation would not complete. I went to the Microsoft Support web site, it was apparent that many people have this problem. There were five or six possible solutions listed. During the process of trying them all and not having any success, I tried to call the Microsoft support phone number. They told me they could not help me because there was no warranty on the product. A brand new webcam with known software problems and they refused to help me.I finally got the webcam to work on my parents' computer. I spent hours installing it. Now I'm trying to install the software on my computer trying all the same suggestions from the MS web site and still no luck. I have spent even more hours on my computer.Don't buy this webcam. It will only frustrate you and make you hate Microsoft.

but > I had to download the latest drivers from [...] making sure it was vista x64. It was ver.2.04 to be exact. The drivers that came with it was insufficient needless to say dont use it. Besides the new driver/software is better and has more dashboard effects which are far more enjoyable. The camera quality is couple of notches better than the vx-3000 which I also have but gave away to my folks. But@ 640x480 resolution they are very similar maybe its just me or maybe I just dont notice the wide angle at that setting. either way both of them are great cams. I bought a $20 offbrand webcam it was great but when I got the vx3000 I noticed it was slow on refresh. I also tinkered with the registry to modify the cam button to launch Yahoo Messenger (its tricky). I tried to regedit launch Skype to but failed. Anyways a great cam / too bad I didnt buy it from Amazon as I got it half off elsewhere.

The MS LifeCam is a decent webcam. It's better for laptop use than desktop because of the bendable base. I have two other Creative webcams, both w/ 1.3 MPixel resolution, and more expensive; But this one works better. You don't need the CD, so don't bother installing the software that comes with it. The audio works well also. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a webcam.

The picture quality is very good. I really do not use the on board microphone as I have a high quality microphone already. I just use this for the Skype and Yahoo Messenger calls and I am pretty happy with the video quality.

This web cam was super easy to install and use and the interface is a no brainer (even a caveman can do it).It sits on top of my LCD monitor with nothing but the camera in view and the little blue light tells you when its on. The mic is sensitive so you dont have to yell just talk in a normal conversational voice. I am going to buy another and have already recommended it to others.

Very good during day light or if you have a very good light at home. in the dark or low light the webcam lose the video quality.

Basics - this webcam has great resolution and good fps (this also depends on your computer - with my Core 2 Quad, I am able to capture 800x600 at 24fps with no problem - fluid motion without any blurring).Bonus - the software is clean and very funny! For instance, the software can track your eyes and simulate a pair of sunglasses on you - follow you when you shake or turn your head - and this is done on the driver level so it is real time in all your video chat!Bottomline - it is worth the money, even at this economic downturn.

I ordered one of these web cams first from a different retailer a few weeks back; and was very pleased at how easily the software installed, and how well it integrates with Windows Live (MSN) Messenger. Picture quality is very good, and built in mic works well too. I now cam with friends overseas - the perfect solution.I liked it so well - I ordered another one from Amazon to use with my laptop, so I won't have to keep moving it around. Also works with all applications, including Windows Movie Maker.

Installed in my computer running xp in no time but the 2 i bought for gifts seemed like i got lemons. 1 took forever to install maybe about 1 hour but the other would not install in my sisters computer if i got on my knees and begged. She ran the software disc 4 times before it would install then only the audio worked, no video at all. She uninstalled it and tried again and could not install it at all this time. Seems microsoft released the software with a few glitches in it. Tried the download from their website but got the same results so she's returning it and going to try something else.

hi just so you know, this is the very first web camera that I have purchased...I am not that happy with it! Its speacial features can ONLY be accessed via Window Live for one,Windows live on my computer wasnt accepting the camera, so I called the company and apparently I have to disable all other start up programs each and every time I use it!!! CrazyAlso, I am not that impressed with the picture quality...Good things about this camera are that it has (when working) neat faces you can use while talking,but like I said when working as it sometimes doesnt even work with Window live...
