I bought two of the Epson V600 Photo Scanners, one for a gift and one for use with a family history project. That said I am impressed with the speed of this scanner at this price point. It does a very good job of scanning negatives also. I've scanned hundreds of photos since my purchase and have found that the auto adjust feature does a really nice job. It also has push buttons on the front of it that let you scan in PDF's at the push of a button. My four star rating would have been five if it wasn't for the scanning utility menu. The fact that it doesn't remain open, after a scan, so you can quickly go onto another, is distracting. I believe that the Epson V600 is a quality product at a great value!

I purchased The Epson V600 scanner via Amazon and it is all it was advertised to be. I'm using it with a MacBook Pro that has Lion operating system (OS X 10.7). I've had no uses with the scanner or the computer and have scanned nearly 1000 photos.

I am the IT administrator for a medium sized company. We have wasted countless hours troubleshooting Epson scanners that "cannot communicate" with the PCs on which they are installed (particularly Win7 64-bit machines). After all the years Epson has been in business, they still can't release software that works? Really? My techs have better things to do than to constantly install/uninstall/reinstall Epson software to try and keep these scanners working. I HAVE NOW BANNED THE PURCHASING DEPARTMENT FROM BUYING ANY EPSON PRODUCT UNTIL EPSON GETS ITS ACT TOGETHER. Continuing to release buggy software is inexcusable.

Easy to install and scans are sharp and crisp. However, the "shortcut buttons" for "PDF" "Print", etc don't work. Contacted Epson support. They asked me if the desktop icon worked and I could do what the buttons did on the computer itself. When I said yes, their response was "so why do you need the buttons." No further help and so I've been the controlling the scanner from the computer and not using the front buttons which Epson seems so proud of.

I've only had it for several days now, but I am confident that my current experience will endure. This is a beautifully finished machine, and the scanned results are near faultless. Having said that, the product is so feature rich that you should prepare for a steep learning curve, in which I'm now involved. Also, the film holders don't belong in the same room with the rest of the machine. They're flimsy pieces of plastic garbage, useable but barely. If it weren't for them I'd give 5 stars. I'm thinking about fabricating my own out of sheet aluminum. But overall, with just those reservations, I love it.

I bought this to convert my photographs to digital format. It arrived quickly and it was easy to set up on my Windows 7 (64bit) PC. I loaded the driver software only for now. It includes Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for Windows and MC OS. I was a little put off by what you had to do to scan a single photo but then I realized I can scan 5 pictures (3.5 x 5) at once and the software will figure that out. Amazing. What I don't like so far is that after every scan I have to open the scan program again as it closes after I'm done. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but if that's the only quirk then I'm rating it a 4. The digital conversions look very good. Glad I bought it.

I got this scanner with no aparent problem... But when I opened the box there was a little piece inside the scanner moving from one side to another... It seemed like a plastic waste. Then I set the power and the jbuser cable to my macbook pro and nothing... The scanner displayed an error message... And nothing happened... I'm currently in Mexico... So the warranty couldn't be claimed in the epson's office here... But they kindly pointed that the broken piece was part of a sensor box... So I glued the piece to the box with poxic paste... And the scanner started working smoothly...So the scanner works great, it does as advertised... No complains at all but the delivery care.

We are long time users of Epson flatbed scanners and now have two of the v600 products. The scanners are efficient, have excellent resolution and provide lots of customization capabilities. Even if the "Fully Automated" setting is used the output is really good. But even in fully automated, there are some custom settings for such things as resolution (DPI) that can be set for improved results. The print to scan and other buttons on the scanner are very useful especially for copying and printing many documents in a row and a lot less expensive than an automatic document feeder. We highly recommed this scanner for the purposes intended.

i've had the unit for a little less then a year. worked fine and was relatively easy to use. just took a little experimenting to figure it out. then for some reason i started getting a green line in all my slides. After some going back and forth with epson they finally sent me a replacement refurbished unit. this one only lasted a little over a month before i developed the exact same problem. reluctantly they are sending me a third unit. it shouldn't be so hard?

The scanner works great for what I needed it for. I have been scanning the 120 film negatives. I use Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10 to clean up the negatives and make them look like the original photos. I have not used any of the ICE technology that comes with the scanner because it takes too long to scan a negative and I didn't see that it was any better quality. Overall it has been working very well with no problems.

I had an older Epson Perfection scanner that I had used to scan hundreds of old pictures, slides and negatives that I recently gave to my daughter since we had purchased an all-in-one printer and it didn't seem necessary to have both. Since then I had occasion to scan more old pictures and discovered that the all-in-one didn't even compare to the old Epson in the quality of scan. Since I just inherited all my parents' old pictures to scan, I decided to purchase a new Epson and I'm so glad that I did. I use it in Professional mode and the quality is perfect. I love that I can fill up the scanner bed with pictures and scan them individually and also being able to scan negatives and slides. The only thing that I miss is being able to store the slide/negative apparatus in the lid of the scanner like my old one.

Item shipped without Adobe Photoshop Essentials, this was intended as a gift and was very embarrassing giving a gift that doesn't include the software that it was supposed to ship with. I had to returned red faced from my Christmas delivery's only to find that Amazon will not accept return because I shop early and the window of opportunity has "closed". This does not fair well for Adobe, Epson or Amazon...Beware: the scanner came with marks on it, dust under the glass, and is used or refurbished but sold as new by Amazon.

I bought this scanner to convert approximately 2,500 slides to digital images. The scanner could not be easier to use and the quality of the scanned items is excellent. I simply put the slides in the slide holder (caution: make sure you get the side that is supposed to face the screen facing up), launched the scan icon on my Mac and clicked on the scan key. Once the images were in my folder, I imported them into iPhoto. The process could not be easier. In fact, I don't understand all the reviews below. The settings are all automatic. There is nothing else to do.I am 100% satisfied with my purchase.

We bought this scanner to convert slides and album photos to digital format. The V600 worked as advertised converting approximately 1,000 35mm slides with excellent results. It was quicker than we expected (loading four at a time), fairly quiet and cool. We're hoping the album photo scanning works as well. We would definitely recommend this scanner to anyone looking to convert 35mm slides.

I purchased this scanner to scan 35 mm negatives and convert them to jpeg. The color conversion from negative to positive is almost flawless. It does take about 25 minutes to scan one strip of negatives at 2500 dpi--but if you are willing to take the time, the results are worth it. The software is limited: the dust removal works well, but there is no way to turn pictures without using another program. Combining this with Photoshop makes a virtually professional-grade photo processing studio.

We ended up sending it back because it was too slow for what we needed. We have a giant box full of slides that have to be scanned. This unit takes a long time to scan. If you don't need high speed, the quality of the scans are fantastic.

I did quite a bit of research before buying this unit, so I had a pretty good idea what I was getting into. Of course, there were some concerns about software, etc., but I went in with an open mind.First, this unit does a superb job of scanning both slides and film, so that part worked out very well. At first, I scanned at 4800 dpi, but after a bit, realized that 3600 dpi was more than enough resolution for most pictures. People have said that the carrier is flimsy, but it wasn't a problem. Tip -- when scanning a lot of slides, tape the left and bottom sides of the carrier to the scanner chassis (not the glass). You can quickly drop slides into the slots and later remove them, without the carrier shifting.A lot of people were put off by the Epson software, and suggested Vuescan. I demo'd Vuescan, and wasn't impressed. Why spend a bunch of time modifying the image before the scan, when it is so much easier to make adjustments later in Photoshop 7 (supplied with the scanner)? All I really want to do when scanning is to get a decent version of the image, minimizing clipping, etc., without investing a lot of time. I also like the way Epson auto-cropped the pictures for me.After some frustration, I hit on method for using the Epson software effectively:1) Don't use "Unsharp mask" when scanning. Use Photoshop's version later.2) Select all the pictures and apply "Auto Exposure". This fixes the colors, but does a lot of high and low clipping.3) The images will now look much more like real pictures, but need a bit of work.4) Select a pic and zoom it. Select "Histogram Adjustment". See the top graph? Note that the left and right sliders are too far in toward the middle, so information is being clipped.5) Before making any changes to the sliders, look at the middle graph. It will usually have a bit of a dip (tending toward the bottom right). Remember what it looks like.6) Now, go to the top graph, and move the top and bottom sliders out, until they are just outside the black area. You have now eliminated the clipping, but your now picture looks terrible. Note that the curve in the middle graph has dipped way to the bottom-right.7) Move the center slider to the left, while looking at the curve in the middle graph. Remember how it used to look? Try to make the curve look like it used to, with the same little dip toward the bottom-right.That's it! Go to the next image and do the same thing. Once you get the hang of it, each picture takes about 5 seconds. The nice thing about this technique is that you don't even have to look at the picture while you're doing it. Guard against a tendency to make a dark picture too bright by overdoing the correction. Remember, you're better off fixing the image in Photoshop. Meanwhile, you've got an picture that's viewable now, and that still has all the information you'll need to make it a great picture later.Once I figured this out, and unleashed the V600 to do its thing, the rest is history....

The CD that comes bundled with the 600V scanner does not work for LION; I was directed to the EPSON support site for a download of the scanner driver. That process went smoothly and the scanner sends images to MAC via image capture. The Adobe Elements CD also works. The EPSON easyphoto software, however, including DIGITAL ICE and ABDYY, is not available. Customer service does not know when the Epson easyphoto software will be ready and directed me to call the other vendors to see if they supported LION and would provide downloads. REALLY??? So if you buy this scanner for LION (or perhaps any EPSON scanner), don't expect EPSON software (or an EPSON solution).

For 120/220 film negatives you might want to think about something else. Although I'm not sure what, if you are on a budget. And that's how I wound up with this product. Decent price, and the scans look good enough off of negatives and transparencies. Now, here's the problem: The scanning mask for negatives is not sufficiently large to handle 6x6 cm negatives ("two and a quarter square")in strips of four. A fairly common way of filing these back in the old days that fit a 12-shot roll on to an 8x10 inch contact sheet.Looks like 6x7 cm will fit okay in threes. A few scans of these look good although the default scanner settings breaks them up into oddly chopped image pieces. One day soon I'll have a look at the rest of the software controls and settings to see if there's a way to make what I'm doing the default.Scans from slides and prints look good. Didn't scan any transparency film (Fujichrome, Kodachrome, and the like)in uncut strips.I got more or less what I expected because my selection was limited by price. One Week Report: I'm with the users who say you need to fiddle around a lot to get high quality results. For my 6x6 and 6x7 negatives I'm taking out a scan of the strip and cutting it up in an image editor called Gimp. Then moving the strip and scanning again to pick up the missed frame. And I'm finding that making modifications to the image is easier in the image editor than with the scanner's dedicated software. This could be user familiarity with one product v unfamiliarity with another. - The unsharp mask and ICE technology seem to be leaving weird artifacts in the scan. Neither is a solution to problems I have with my images. Both degrade the results in my estimation. My guess, untested at the moment, is that taking files out as tif and working in Gimp may be a better way to handle film negatives. For those who printed with black borders in the wet process darkroom, this scanning scheme isn't going to work. Maybe I'll try trimming out the plastic carrier. Or making a carrier or my own for one at a time scans. And maybe not. It does scan my negatives. But it's not quite what I was looking for.

When it works, it's fine. But it very frequently gets a brain cramp and will not allow me to scan film negatives. The menu won't even show the option. Give it a couple of day's rest and sometimes it comes back, sometimes it doesn't.Look carefully at the support materials before buying. Make your own judgement. I think they're worthless. I would not recommend this product.

The Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner is easy to use, makes excellent digital pictures of old photographs, and is reasonably priced. The scanner has a large scanning bed that will accommodate pictures up to 8X10 nches. We have not tried slides or other meduim that can be scanned as well. Excellent home photo scanner.
