The product did not work, I tried on both a Mac and a Toshiba PC. The Driver would not load on the PC. It loaded on the Mac but the scanner still did not work. OK I understand that there always can be a dud and I was unfortunate to score it. But it is the support that irritated me. I went to the Epson US web site and attempted to download the appropriate driver software. After jumping through hoops, a 3rd party, presumably contracted by Epson said it had located the problem but it would cost $30 to fix on my computer. I agreed but after parting with the money, the program failed to do anything positive. I contacted Epson again and got a talking head. Given the accent, he was in India, He was very helpful and after going around my computer ( about 6 weeks old ) told me he could fix it, but at a "nominal" charge. After asking what was the charge about 10 times and getting an evasive answer, I was told it was $100. He too was working for a contractor retained by EpsonThis is insulting service from Epson I can forgive them for a product that doesn't work. But the support effort is inexcusable Epson Perfection V600 Photo Color Scanner (B11B198011)

As far as non-pro scanners go, this one is the best at resolution, color representation, focus and accuracy. No complaints.

I bought the scanner first from Amazon.com. However, when I tried it didn't work at all. (I did use a 220V to 110V transfo; so no, I didn't fry the scanner) It was doing literally nothing. To send it back, it would have cost me almost the price that I had paid for it. Hence, I decided to leave it as it was. I was really not happy about it.I bought a new one from Amazon.co.uk. This one is working perfectly. The quality is exactly what I want. The buttons work, even from my Mac (although many claim they don't). The Epson software is doing exactly what I want it to do. Once my preferences were set, I could scan the negatives like a train. However, be it a bit of a slow train, because scanning takes 2.5 minutes per strip of 4 negatives. I shouldn't really complain about this, because it was mentioned in the product description that I read before buying the machine.So, the only reason why I don't give 5, is because of the first one not working and the send-back cost being prohibitively high.

I am very disappointed in the Epson V600 scanner - at 13 mos old red hair lines appeared on scanned pictures or documents. A number of calls to Epson representatives and many downloads of software later ; I still could not get rid of the red lines. It is definitely not the glass. A scanner should last longer then 13 months.It is quite a distance to a authorized repair center and I'm not sure that the cost or time would be worth it.

I use this with SilverFast software. With that software, this is a great scanner for photos and negatives. But with the installed software, it is only average.

I purchased this scanner new on Amazon to scan medium format negatives.First, let me say that this scanner works perfectly well for scanning documents and other reflective materials. The reason I am giving the V600 a negative review is that there are other perfectly usable document scanners to be had for cheaper; the primary attraction of this scanner is that it also scans 35mm and medium format (i.e. 120 / 220) film. The included scanning software is actually pretty good, and I can get a good workflow going. The problem is, pure and simple, the negative scans are not nearly as sharp as the stated DPI figure would suggest. The actual maximum REAL DPI you will get out of this scanner is around 1200, NOT 9600. For those who want a sharp negative scanner, don't buy this scanner.Other flatbed negative scanners may cost more, but as Palmer says, the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.Bottom line, I would not recommend this scanner for negative scanning, although it is a passable document scanner.

I've been using Epson scanners for years, and this one is just as good as all the others I've used. It is large and sturdy, and the lid stays up when I open it. It produces excellent results, and it works quickly.

Best bang for the buck. This has increased my productivity, and can produce quality picture. Only thing that would make this (feasibly) better would be a larger bed.

I bought this to get all my pictures digital so that last through the years. So far its been great and easy to use. The top 1/4 inch is not always seen, so if you've got a close cropped photo, you need to pull it down a little when you scan it. Otherwise, I think its great!

I can only speak to film scanning, I have not tried scanning prints or documents yet. I'm using the V600 with VueScan (basic) on a 2006 Thinkpad running Ubuntu 11.04, and I got great scans of 35mm AND 120 film, after just a few hours of twiddling. I know professionals with V600s, and they get amazing film scans out of it with VueScan. If you're not getting good results, the problem is between your chair and your keyboard, not the V600.There is a fairly steep learning curve, but if you just spend a few hours of trial and error figuring out what each adjustable parameter means, you'll get the hang of it fairly quickly. I panicked at first because I was getting soft images of 120 film, and it turned out I had the histogram set to too little contrast, because my negatives were sharp when I looked through the loupe. I thought my camera was broken, I thought I needed a $100 betterscanning.com adjustable film holder 9000, any number of things. NOPE, bonehead user error.The basic settings are good enough, but I tend to tweak every frame anyway. I use the V600 for a rough scan to capture as much information as possible (with low-enough-but-not-soft contrast), and then refine even further in GIMP (or photoshop or whatever). If you're not obsessive like me, using the basic guidelines in VueScan will get you great scans. Keep your negatives clean, keep the glass clean, and you should be golden.

I did my homework before buying my first scanner but this model was new at the time and I just had to take a chance.I could not be more satisfied. I have scanned several thousand pictures and documents and not one problem.

At last, a way to get all of our old photos converted into a digital format that we can keep in a couple of safe places. It does a great job of cleaning up the images to look their very best. We couldn't be happier.

While a trifle slow with only 4 scanned at a time, the quality and editing is excellent. Very pleased, the price is excellent and we are already recommending it widely to our friends and acquaintances..

I did 250 old 35mm slides and it worked flawless. The auto color correction worked very well it almost always had the correct color correction. Old slides turn red with age and it will fix them.

I ordered the Epson Perfection V600 Photo Scanner because I was trying to scan 60 years worth of family photos (negative film, slides and prints) using a Epson V500. The V500 was doing a really great job on the film and slides but a lot of the prints were in poor condition. The V600 claimed to have Digital Ice for Prints capability. The V500's Digital Ice for film worked very well at cleaning up scans from film and slides and I had hoped that the DI for prints would be just as good.The DI for prints was the only disappointment about this scanner. All it does is smudge any tears or blemishes on the prints. In my opinion it just doesn't work.The rest of the claims for this scanner are true. Scans are sharp and well exposed. Color restoration works amazingly well on faded originals. It also does a good job on old prints that have developed a yellow or magenta color cast. I am very happy with the image quality and the controls available with the Epson software.Hardware and software installation was super simple. Run the software off the CD, download the upgrade from the Epson website and plug the scanner into the Mac (iMac 27" running Snow Leopard OSX) - the setup is complete. could not be simpler.Operation is also very simple and easy. The Epson Scan software has 4 levels of complexity. All 4 levels are easily accessible at all times. Full Auto Mode is the 'Point and Shoot' level. Professional Mode would be more for the D-SLR type of person. If you like to complicate your life there are third party drivers that allow you to tweak and manage every aspect of the scan.Scans without Digital Ice are really quick compared to scanners I've used in the past. Digital Ice really slows things down. Scanning 4 - 35mm slides @ 3,200dpi without DI takes 2 minutes with DI it takes 10 minutes. The software for the Mac runs in the background and does not seem to slow down either my iMac or my Powerbook. I can scan while I work on other things. Very convenient.Despite the time it adds to the scans, Digital Ice is definitely worth using. The scans are instantly usable without and post-scan touch up in PhotoShop. The end result is a huge time saving.OutputSpectacular! Scans from 35mm color negatives scanned at 3,200 dpi with Digital Ice can be printed at 11X13 and look as good or better then the same size print produced by the photo store without any additional work. If your a PhotoShop or Elements wiz the results only get better. Scans from prints are also very good but will probably require clean-up in PhotoShop or Elements before you print them.The BadAs I mentioned earlier Digital Ice for Prints does nothing useful. Digital Ice for Film works very well on color negative film and non-Kodachrome slides. If you have lot of B&W film or Kodachrome slides, you are going to have to clean them up manually. I understand there is a Kodachrome friendly version of Digital Ice but Epson does not include it with their software.I recommend this scanner to anyone who wants to make quality scans with a minimum of fuss. The value for the money is very high. If you have a scanner that is 4 or 5 years old or older the upgrade is worth it. If you have an Epson V500, the V600 is not that big an improvement.

The Epson scanner works well. However, the photoshop elements 8 which comes with the scanner has problems and when telephone help was requested, I was directed to India and told that I would have to pay almost $30.00 to get help.

Purchased this to convert all my parents slides to digital, and it worked beautifully! The only reason i gave 4 and not 5 stars was because the directions how to use it are not great and it is slightly complicated for the non tech person.

Just installed it. Install software first, then connect scanner. Easy to use interface. Scanned several photos already with good results. Still haven't used it to scan hundreds of slides in, but will update later when I do.

So far (after one week) no problems whatsoever. Works great in fully automatic mode for scanning photos and slides. Product manual is only mediocre, available via web link. Would prefer a more detailed manual, either hard copy or a PDF file.
