The Epson V600 performs well beyond my expectations!The colors are true, the pixilations are minimal, and it is extremely easy to set up and to use.The users guide is online, so referencing points is easy. It is a thorough, complete guide that is easy to understand.I am scanning over 2000 slides, plus negatives. The slides are so easy to scan. You do four at a time and choose which options you'd like on each picture. Yes, the process may take up to six minutes for four slides, but the results are well-worth it!I have also scanned some negatives and I am highly impressed with the color photo results.I was initially a bit wary to spend the extra $$ for the Epson, but after reading a number of positive reviews, I took a leap of faith and I am left with an enthusiastically positive impression of the unit.If you are a serious photographer looking for an outstanding unit to scan your slides or negatives, then I STRONGLY recommend that you avoid the cheapo units and spend the money for the Epson V600. It is absolutely worth every penny I've spent!

I really like this scanner. Image quality and dependability is great however the scanner utility software for mac 0SX Lion is not functional. I keep going to the Epson website looking for the 0SX Lion update but I can't find it. You can get the driver that will allow basic operation on the mac but you can't install the Epson scanner utility program. It works on my Dell laptop running Windows 7. If the scanner utility would run in 0SX Lion I'd give this scanner a 5 star!

I was a litle skeptical at first; however, after trying it, I was convenced that it could actually perform as advertised. I converted both prints and some fifty-year old negatives that I took when I was in Military Service, and they come out surprisingly well. I highly recommend it.

A year later and hundreds of photos scanned I'm thoroughly happy with this scanner. Love everything about it except one thing: if you place a photo against the plastic edge next to glass platen then the scan cuts off a litte bit of the picture. I can't figure out why they missed something so obvious and cut off a millimeter from one side of the photo. It you place the photo away from the edge then it solves that problem but creates another: your scan will most likely be skewed. I finally put a piece of thick painter's tape along one edge so that it creates a new edge a couple millimeters onto the glass. Now I slide my photos right up against the edge of the tape and I get a scan of the full photo with no crop and no skew.

The Epson V600 is very easy to use. I have used it thus far only for scanning slides and I am very pleased with the result. Some of my slides are over 40 years old and I can easily adjust the settings so as to scan the slides for the best result.

I have a brand new computer running Windows 7 Home Premium. I made three attempts to load software but got error messages each time about not being able to download the scanner drive. I searched Epson site for information as well as Microsoft but their suggestions did not help me. I finally emailed Epson support and within 24 hours I had their response with step by step instructions on how to get my software loaded. I am no computer genius, but I can follow directions. This machine is taking my 40 year old slides and turning them into an album I can share. My daughter was able to see photos of herself at 2 years old she had never seen. The ICE restores them beautifully and the Adobe Perfection software that comes with the scanner lightens, recolorizes and touches up anything the ICE misses. I love this machine. On line support, in a word awesome. The machine runs itself and the Adobe video tutorial is making me feel like a professional. I haven't even tried old photos or documents yet, but this machine has done exactly what I I purchased it for.

I have had several scanners over the years, and this one is by far the best, and easiest to use. Unpacked the box, loaded the software and plugged it in and it was working. I had a huge project to undertake when my old scanner croaked. My Father left me all of the family slides. I decided to scan them in, label them and put them on a disk for each family member.Most of the slides were quite old and I was able to use the color correction feature and the dust feature with amazing results. I would recommend this scanner to anyone - whether you have large projects like me, or just need to scan in the occassional whatever.Epson Perfection v600 Photo Color Scanner (B11B198011)

I am not familiar with the technology when it comes to scanners, I picked epson v600 based on previews reviews. I have about 5000 pics to scann, so far I have scanned 1500 and the las 500 pics the scanners freezes and does not response, it does not happens very often but when it does I have to turn off, disconnect and start over.

After many searches, we decided on the EpsonPerfection v600Photo Color Scanner. I do a lot of scrapbooking and wanted something that would copy and restore pictures. Works great, but little did I know what else was available...I can also scan and print right from slides and negatives. Now all the boxes and boxes of slides will be organized and put together in one place. And if I am not sure which picture from a negative, I can look at them before committing myself. LOVE IT!!! That element works like a dream. I give this scanner a two thumbs up.

The only thing that I found bad with this is that my computer cannot read the files that this scanner gives me. If they fix this the scanner will be a 5/5. I use to scan my photos to upload to Flickr. It gives me great quality, plus it comes with PS elements which is a great tool to have.

I like the the results from this scanner. I t does a very nice job. My only complaint is that it has been difficult to learn it properly. The explanations have not been clear enough for me. I expect to becaome more proficient the longer I use it.

I purchased this scanner several months ago at Amazon. The price was excellent. So far I have found the scanner to be very good. I do not scan negatives, or many photos, I do scan my art work and documents. At this point I would recommend it. Since I am not a technical person I am always relieved to find a piece of equipment I can operate without major stress, this certainly is a very easy scanner to operate.

If you plan to rely on the software that comes with this scanner, do not buy it. It is essentially for children and does not permit options available on even the simplest programs. No settings for margins, other than your first scan does not allow for number of pages per document, no adjustment available for image size so that you take whatever the machine gives you which is going to be about 110% of what you want. The user manual can only be viewd on a paragraph by paragraph basis, cannot be printed as a document. I have two hours into trying to get this thing to do what any product with some self respect would do right out of the box. The scanner itself appears to operate just fine, but so what? Now about to call Amazon to start the process of getting rid of this thing. I thought these days were pretty much over and that no company would be stupid enough to shovel this trash on the public. Turns out I'm the dope.

As others, I bought this to primarily scan old family photos and negatives. It works great. It's much faster than a similar scanner I purchased about 4 years ago. And much of the scanning can be automated, which again is better than my previous (expensive) scanner. I love the Digital ICE functionality to repair photos/negatives, and I regularly use the color correction feature.My only constructive criticism is that the film holders (for negatives and slides) are somewhat limited. I have an interesting assortment of odd film sizes, and this scanner's film holders don't always accomodate them. It only supports the really common film sizes.EDITEDSince I wrote my review, I have found a crude workaround for my problem with odd size film formats. I have had good luck with using a bit of masking tape to pin down my larger negatives to the glass. This helps with incrementally repositioning the negatives so they are square with the scanner head. It takes more time than I'd like, but it does work... I continue to recommend this scanner to family and friends.

I'm very happy with the V600. Although I'm only an occasional user for documents, photos, and negatives, I think the quality of the scans is excellent. The hardware and the ease of use is also excellent, and I have no serious concerns about the software. Even a very scratched up 80 year old negative scanned in clear as day with touch ups by the software.

Having purchased 4 Epson scanners in the past I knew the quality I would receive. This scanner had one important update to it over my past scanners. It had Digital Ice for prints listed in the specifications. This was a major selling point although I was skeptical. I received the scanner and much to my disappointment the Digital Ice for PRINTS not only failed to work it made the prints look much worse than before scanning. I logged on to the support site and it recommended rotating the print. This I did, not only 90 degrees but various other angles as well with no improvement. When Epson says something works you can usually take that to heart but I think this might be a glitch in the software or firmware. I will continue to check the site and log a report to see what comes of the issue. Other than this one issue it is a great scanner. If anyone has a solution please respond so all can enjoy this addition. On a side note I am using the scanner in professional mode in Photoshop CS2 and CS3 for restoration.

I do not have a problem with this scanner. I followed the directions and it was easy to install on my Mac Book Pro. I was scanning within 30 minutes of installation. It creates a scan in under 1 minute and quietly too (For folks complaining about noise remember to slide the piece in the back to unlock the scanner before using, otherwise it will damage the equipment). I don't use the epson software to enhance the image though, I just scan the image and use Adobe Photoshop CS5 to correct anything. I scan drawings and canvas paintings, as I'm an Illustrator, and I find it picks up fine detail and subtle color shifts perfectly even at 300dpi. It delivers professional quality scans that I can use in the publishing industry and I barely have to correct anything on the original scan. So much easier to use than my old Umax Astra scanner. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality art scanner that won't break the bank.

I used to develop my own B&W film and print pictures in my home darkroom. Since that technology evolved into a no darkroom computer-assisted digital process I've been frustrated that I couldn't recoup negatives larger than 35mm with a scanner. The Epson Perfection v600 scanner has solved that problem with a reasonably priced solution! My wife and I have been busy sorting, scanning, and printing out precious memories of our 3 children when they were very young. The scanner handles all our 35mm, 120, 620, and 127 negatives plus any pictures made from them up to 8x10. The scanned results are great! So far the reliability of the scanner is A-1.

The software is easy to install and understand how to use and provides all the information you need to get the best scans. The unit appears to be sturdily built. Scanning is fast. The results, with documents, pictures, and slides, are fantastic. The Digital ICE software removes specks in seconds which take an hour or more to remove manually, one by one, and does it with very little visible degradation of the image. If you are scanning old prints, negatives, or slides, you WANT Digital ICE or an equivalent. The manner of changing from document scanning to film/slide scanning is fast and easy, the slide/film holder aligns positively and easily on the platen, and the slides and film align easily in the holder. Well-designed and a pleasure to use.About the only minus points I can think of are that (1) this scanner is larger and bulkier than those which do not have a built-in light in the cover for projecting down through film and transparencies and (2) it needs to be powered from AC rather than just through the USB connection, such as the fine-for-the-price Canon LIDE 700F scanner, of which I have two. But the Canon will NOT work with slides, only with film and documents and, as good as its sharpness and color performance is, the Epson is better yet, has easier to understand and use software, AND gives you the Digital ICE software. The Epson is a bargain at the price.Note that many scanners are not yet specified as working with Windows 7 or 64-bit operating systems. The Epson and the Canon both installed and have worked fine for me from the get-go with Windows 7, 32 or 64 bit systems.

I have returned two if these and won't purchase another until Epson looks into the problem of dust artifacts under the glass. The scanner is a great performer at this price, scans fast and very accurately. But when you make some high resolution scans, say 1200 dpi, you start to see artifacts. They are under the glass, and you can't wipe them off. I have owned older Epson scanners, and never had this problem. But note the review Feb 26, 2010 by C. Logg the same thing happened to him a year ago.

Pros:Easy to useGreat results with film, 6x7, 645, and 135 (35mm)Cons:Software is a bit clunkyDigital ICE can do bizarre thingsLargest Improvements Over V500:Can now scan four 645 or three 6x7 negatives at a time (spec is 6x22cm).Bottom Line:Great deal for a flatbed scanner that is designed primarily for film and graphic arts use. I don't think I would upgrade from the V500 unless you scan a lot of medium format film, and even then it might be worth checking to see if the new medium format insert would work in the V500 (I don't know if it would or not). The software is the same as the V500.One of the large bottlenecks of the V500 is that it will only scan two 645 negatives at a time. Since I usually cut in strips of 3, this is a problem. It means I had to scan each strip twice, once to get two of the images, and a second time to get the third. This means I had to 10 scans to get through a roll of 15 images. The V600 allows me to do this in 5 scans instead of 10. This is a nice time savings.Sometimes the Digital ICE produces some bizarre artifacts, like halos around sharp edges and in shadows. It also at least doubles or triples the scan time. The somewhat random nature of the results and slow scan times makes me avoid Digital ICE entirely. The dust reduction does help, but do plan on spending 5 or 10 minutes in Lightroom removing dust spots from critical images. Dusting your negatives and keeping them clean will help a lot. Keep an antistatic brush and cotton gloves handy when scanning negatives.This is a great scanner for film shooters, and will quickly pay for itself over just 10 or 20 rolls of film. Expect to get results comparable to a decent DSLR camera, if I had to wager a guess a 135 (35mm) negative might be comparable to a 6 MP SLR where the medium format might be more like a 12 MP equivalent, but these comparisons are dangerous and don't really mean a whole lot and I haven't done resolution testing. This scanner is ideal for a hobbyist medium format film shooter that doesn't want to pay a fortune for scans, or someone looking to restore a few dozen rolls of film or slides. Expect to spend 1 or 2 hours per roll processing though.

This is a very good scanner. I have scanned slides, negatives and photos and am more than pleased with its performance. I do find the advertised optical resolution to be optimistic and would say instead of 4800 DPI that it is more in the range of 2000 to 2500 DPI. I am an advanced user and didn't expect a flatbed scanner to equal the performance of a dedicated photo scanner, yet I am still impressed with what it can do. If scanning slides or negatives in 35mm and you want professional results, I would suggest the V700 or V750. I haven't tried medium format yet, but I would expect the V600 to give excellent results. Plus...for the money you can't go wrong, well worth the price.

I was forced to buy a new scanner because the Hewlett-Packard 5590 I was using self-destructed right after the warranty expired, and I received absolutely no consideration from HP. They charged me to do an online diagnostic, and told me the 5590 was not fixable. I had only given it very light use, too. So, I swore never to buy anything from HP again, and after checking everything out there, I bought the Epson Perfection V600, and I am pleased with it. My only complaint is that the documentation is rather limited, and you have to figure out certain functions intuitively. I have used scanners for many years, so that wasn't a problem for me. (I still have a perfectly good HP 2CX scanner which I updated when I connected it to an at the time new, but now old Windows 98 computer. It works fine but HP stopped updating the software for it to work with newer computers and newer versions of Windows). The setup for the Epson Perfection V600 is very simple--just plug it in, after first installing the software. I can't comment on its durability because it is new, and after my Hewlett-Packard experience, you can imagine my reluctance to commit to a durability rating on any product that is new.

I've used it on Pics and 35MM slides. Worked very well. Only complaint is that there isn't an easy way to remove the slides after scanning them. They fit loosely in the holder and the finger nail slot is too thick to remove the slide. I remove the holder then remove the slides with a small sheet of paper to avoid touching the glass.

didnt' give it a 5 because of it's clunky softwareBasically, any opttion of image retouching you choose to have the epson software do will result in severely degraded image quality.The digital ICE seems to do nothing but muddy up all my scans (i do mainly negatives).Quality is unbeatable for the price.DO't bother doing anything above 3200 dpi because it just takes forever and there is little noticeable image quality increase

I use this product for my currency collection hobby. It produces fairly accurate images at 400 dpi that takes about 5 seconds. At 1200 dpi, it takes about 20 seconds; but it slows down my computer menu view when displaying a group of more than 5 at a time. I would highly recommend to anyone in the currency collection hobby to buy this product.

This is the first photo scanner I have owned in many years. I am using this scanner to scan slides. The quality of the scans from this scanner are impressive. Colors are accurate and sharpness is excellent. The noise level is excellent as well.

Bought this to scan in my old color slides. It did a fabulous job of that. I then embarked on old family photos. Much to my surprise, as long as you leave half an inch between photos, it recognizes them as seperate and saves them to seperate jpegs. This product is all I could have hoped for. Ony problem to date is that Windows 7 is slow to see it respond. When you see the not responding window, just give it about 5 seconds.

We tried a cheaper slide/picture converter that was terrible to use and had very poor quality. (the Wolverine)We even tried sending off 50 slides to Costco. The results were okay.But this scanner was easy to use and the slides/negs came out sometimes even betterthan the originals. We scanned over 2,200 slides, 1,100 negatives and 100 pictures. No need tosharpen pictures in Photoshop. With the slides check the brighten color box and it will take outany filters in the photo. It's easy to use and am going to let relatives barrow it when we'redone. (still have over 200 photos to scan). I highly recommend this product. And it's inexpensive, too!

Got scanner quickly. Price seems really good. Scanned in a few hundred slides that were 50 years old. Pictures look great. Adobe Photoshop elements (comes free w/scanner)is version 7 ... they are up to version 9 and near full price to upgrade. I'm a little disapointed about that. I have curled film strips and have not tried to scan those yet, but the holder does not seem like it will help much ...but we'll see.Definately recommend it. Huge difference between this and an older HP all in one I tried using before to scan.

The scanner comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 and works well with Windows 7. I do most of my editing within Photoshop so do not use the additional features like ICE. I'm scanning mostly 35mm film, and I like that I can scan up to 12 images at a time. With the preview feature, it is easy to determine what negatives I do not wish to scan, and I can rotate images easily.It will also do up to 4 35mm slides at a time. The image quality for the slides is as good or better than for the negatives. Of course scanning time increases depending on image quality. I prefer to make my scans fairly large so if I wish to make enlargements, I won't have to rescan. With the huge capacities of today's hard drives, why not?It will also scan 120 size negatives (6x6cm)but I have not yet used this feature, although I have a number of 120 negs from my Rollei days. I do not see that it has the capability to scan 120 slides, although that probably could be done by placing individual slides where the negative holder normally sits and doing them individually.There are a number of ways to scan from fully automatic to "professional" where you specify a number of parameters.It is a rather large beastie, but it seems all multifunction scanners have large footprints these days. I did not rate durability since I've only had the unit for a month. It looks well built, but I can't be sure.If you need the capability to do 120 film, this looks like a good bet. I had also looked at the Canoscan unit, but it was always out of stock. I don't know if that means Canon is coming out with a new unit, but I'm happy with the Epson.

I bought this scanner because i wanted great quality prints but didnt have 500 bucks to spare for the V700. i have never used the V700 but i will say the V600 is great! I cant really say ive ever had a real issue with it. I get great quality scans and pretty quickly too. it is a little bit difficult to get the negatives into the matte if they are curled up, but as far as quality goes i would definitely recommend this. in fact, i have, multiple times. Another great thing about the scanner is the ability to scan things other then photo negative. ive scanned a couple printed photos and blew them up and lost absolutely no quality.

I found the Epson V600 easy to set up and easy to use especially since I am not a high tech. person. I purchased it mainly to copy a bunch of old slides and find it does a pretty good job. Just have to make sure that you clean the slides well before scanning with some air or else every small dust particle will show up especially where you have sky in the photo. I find you really have to play around with the settings to get the desired results but than can just start batching them very quickly.

Purchased this unit to replace a microtek scanner. It took two attempts to load the software into my mac running 10.6.5. I still am not sure it all got loaded as of this time. Additionally the Photoshop elements 6 software that came "bundled" will not load on this version of Mac. I called Adobe and they blew me off to Epson who said too bad, go buy Element 9. Not at all impressed with customer service from either Adobe or Epson at this point. As a point of interest, Epson said this unit is last years model.The few slides I have scanned came out very clear and crisp so far.

I have had this scanner for just over 1 month now. I've only gotten to use it a couple of times so far. Haven't got to start on my projects yet. I've only used it to scan in around 25 photos. Everything was easy to setup and to scan the pictures,they look great. I'm just a beginner but I'm looking forward to using its other more detailed features. Will have to update review when I use it for the other things.

We copy a significant number of photographs for our family genealogy hobby, so this product is the best we have ever run across. It is fast and easy to use and the quality of the digital copies we get are usually better than the original. The software for this unit is outstanding. I highly recommend the Epson scanner to others.

The reason I bought this scanner is that I trusted the other reviewers, and the other reviewers did not disappoint me. I bought it mainly to transfer slides and I had my first slide scanned in less than 30 minutes. My only confusing thing was there is a removeable cover under the main cover that you must remove to do slide or negative scans. It took me a while to figure that out, and until then I thought I had received a defective unit. If I had realized that, I would have probably had the first slide done in 10 minutes. I had tried one of those small $100 units that are meant to just transfer slides, and it was terrible - the slide was transferred overexposed and there was no way to fix it. These slide transfers are crisp, colors are accurate, and exposure spot on. You can do four slides at a time, which takes about five minutes, but while they are processing I can do other things on my computer. It even tells you how to put the slides so they are not upsidedown or backward. You just plug it in and go (just don't forget to remove the inside cover as stated above).

Purchased the scanner after lots of study. Am more than adept in using computers. Placed three slides into scanner, followed directions and ... voila! a blurred image nothing like the crisp images I expected. Read some more of the almost non existent directions, and came out with the same lousy result. I'm sure it should work, but I haven't touched it in two months. So much for making DVD's of 60 years of family photographs. If someone has any ideas.... I'm open for suggestions. For now it does look nice on my desk.
