it is one WOW scanner. It is nearly 4 times faster than my previous epson scanner was. The color, clarity, resolution are superb. I did some older negatives and slides on it and the scanned performs very respectfully.Great scanner! Recommended!

So far OK...my old HP scanner had a simple menu. I had to get rid of it because the new more powerful computer I built with a 3.1 Ghz Quad CPU, 64 bit Windows 7, couldn't handle my old 5sp + SCSI card. This Epson USB connect flatbed scanner works fine. I like the feature that allows you to turn old negatives into pictures. I'm still learning the software but so far, no problems. Flatbeds do what all in one Fax,Scanner,Printers can't.

I purchased this scanner to convert my legacy 35mm negatives to digital format. I have been using it non-stop for about a week and am thoroughly impressed with the results. I've scanned the odd document and photo and that worked very well too.

I have 21,000 slides to convert to CD's-& Dvd slide shows. When it comes to technology, if it's got a plug I'm suspicious. That said-this piece of equipment is a masterpiece. When scanners for slides first came out, I bought one. After scanning a couple years of photos I stopped to preserve my sanity. I recently bought this one hoping for improvement on the problems of the past and it has greatly exceeded my expectations. It has restored my 30+ year old slides to their original condition. It has restored faded photographs to near perfection. I haven't tried negatives yet-but I'm looking forward to it like Christmas! Simple to use, results worth your time, solves backlighting problems-etc so the finished photo is better than the original. I'm going to take back my closets from the slides and photos plus the kids will get easily accessible pictorial accounts of their childhoods. This is some of the best money I've ever spent.

I have been using the scanner for only a month, but I have been pleased with its performance thus far. I have scanned over 1000 slides and the results are very clear and crisp. I found the setup and instructions easy to follow and had no issues. I was scanning within a few minutes of taking it out of the box.

Was able to save my 34 year old slides to my computer with ease. Set up and using the controls were a snap. Unit has a low profile taking up little room on my desk.I like the no warm up feature. Would have liked storage space for the 2 film holderswithin the scanner when not in use.I highly recommend this V600 Epson scanner.

This V600 Epson Perfection scanner is the little brother to my V700 which handles anything I throw at it with ease and, shall I say, Perfection?Obviously the V600 (in the $250 price range) is no match for the nearly $600 V700, but it has some wonderfully capable functions if you're in need of a not-too-pricey device that can handle your old negatives and slides. The V600 can be considered a serious photo scanner with features that include 6400x9600 dpi optical resolution and 3.4 Dmax, medium format film scanning up to 120/220 film size. The V600 offers a LED light source which means no warm-up time. It comes with Digital ICE for both prints and film and Photoshop Elements for photo retouching and includes a high-speed USB 2.0 port. (Note your computer must also have a high speed port to achieve decent speed.)The V600 has been targeted for both the advanced amateur and the semi-professional and comes with a 35mm filmstrip and slide template, a 200 filmstrip template with film decurler, a power adapter with cable, the USB cable, an installation poster and a CD with scanner software manual, Photoshop Elements software CD and the one-year warranty.While you might not get true 48-bit high resolution scans, 24-bit is easily attainable and perfectly suitable for most work.Some have mentioned that Digital ICE can do bizarre things. I didn't experience any problems other than somewhat slow scan time. The software installed without a hitch on my Windows XP machine. The fully automatic scanning is a huge plus, also the ability to scan without having to select and crop each negative. For a modest expenditure, this is a great machine for anyone still using film and slides.

The Epson V600 is everything it claims to be. It was so easy to setup and don't have any complaints since purchasing it. It is fast and it will scan more than one picture at a time. You can put as many pictures that will fit on the scanner top (as long as the borders of the pictures aren't touching each other) and it will copy them as individual digital pictures to whichever destination you choose, laptop hard drive, external hard drive etc. I have my laptop, the Epson V600 and an external hard drive hooked up and it sends all my pictures it converted over to the external hard drive. Oh and the slide template makes copying negatives over a breeze. You put in the negative and lets say the negative has six pictures on it, well it will process the negative digitally and save each individual picture as if you just scanned the actual picture. I really like that feature because i have alot of negatives but don't have the actual pictures. I either gave them away, used them or lost them and now i can reproduce all those pictures again with the touch of a button. Needless to say i am very happy with this product and i can't imagine what more possibilities there are. i know Epson makes a higher end unit above this one but that one is about 500 dollars so for the price i don't believe you need anything else than the Epson V600.

Bought this for my wife and daughter to use. My wife is saving and repairing old family photos My daughter is a professional photographer with a home studio. I set it up and scanned the first photos. The first time I used it I took 3 or 4 try's messing around with the settings to see what they did to get a scan that I wanted. After that it was very easy. It works with windows xp and vista with out problems. It creates great scans and is faster than other photo scanners I have used. The ICE software works better than I expected, which can save considerable time when working with old photos. My only complaint is, why ship with last years photo shop elements when any one that uses elements regularly probably has upgraded any way.

Haven't gotten to negatives/slides yet, but have done a lot of documents and photos. Using under XSane/Linux with very good results. Little bit of a learning curve as I've never done this before, but results are good. Can't say I find the ICE technology significant under Windows or Linux. My main interest is in documentation. If using under Linux, make sure scanner is attached and running before starting XSane.

The scanner seems great - I just can't get the Adobe Photoshop Elements to install. This feature was one of the reasons that I chose this scanner - anybody else had that problem and solved it?

I was using an old Microtek scanner attached to a Mac OS 9 machine. The old scanner was dying and I had upgraded to OS X throughout the house. So, I thought it was time to upgrade the scanner as well. I bought this Epson scanner for the primary purpose of scanning text documents although the idea of scanning some of my photographs from years gone by was attactive as well. SO far, I've only used the scanner for text documents; it has worked flawlessly - super fast and nearly automatic. A push of a button on the scanner and a click of teh mouse and I have a document that is immediately useful. At this point, I give this machine the highest rating. Can't comment about photos yet.

I have scanned over 1,000 slides and some negatives in the short time I've had this scanner. My only complaint is that it seems to be a bit slow. The scanning software that comes with it is fairly impressive, but I usually scan the image to .tiff format and then manipulate in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop.

I bought this for my husband who uses the V700 at work.Our budget wouldn't allow for $500 and higher, so I found and did some research on this model (V600) and purchased it directly from Amazon.We were so impressed when it arrived 2 days later (It qualified for free shipping).He is EXTREMELY pleased with it, and has been scanning family photos for the past two days. Since he was familiar with the operation of the V700, using this model was just as easy. We're very satisfied with this model Scanner and recommend it highly.

Epson got this right. Easy to use, good scans, nice quality. I've read a few reviews of people who didn't like the Epson software. I found the software easy to use, and with a higher resolution (for film, slides) than Vuescan (which I also use). All in all, a very good scanner at a great price.

After reviewing various scanners on the market, I selected the V600. One reason is a smaller footprint than some of the others with the same features. Besides the Epson name, I also selected this scanner based on the lower price and reviews by other users. I am very satisfied with my purchase, the quality of the images are fantastic.

I was looking for the right scanner to start digitizing life before digital cameras. Read all the reviews, looked at many scanners, wanted something not to complex but allowed me to customized when needed, and all for around $200. If you are starting out on this same journey, this is a great scanner. You can scan prints, you can scan negatives, you can save time -- scan 4 to 6 prints at once and it will automatically separate them. Quality is great. Spend the time before hand to figure out what settings are best for what you need. If you are scanning in a bunch of old photos, 300-600 dpi is perfect depending on your space constraints and future use of the pictures. Scan higher dpi on negatives if you have the space. The ICE technology is a great bonus and comes in handy on the manual mode. Dust removal is very nice.

I purchased the V600 from Amazon at a very good price and have had it for a few weeks. So far the scanner does an excellent job of scanning photographs or slides. The included Adobe Photoshop Elements does an excellent job of fixing and organizing my photos. So far!Over the past several days I repeatedly get a message from the Epson Scan software that says 'Unable to write to file'. When I click on OK the box goes away. No images are imported to Photoshop or presented for saving by the Epson software if Photoshop is not running.I've exchanged two e-mails with Epson support and tried both suggested fixes. Neither has worked and unfortunately this problem has rendered the scanner useless. From what research I've done I am not the only buyer having this problem and it is unclear that Epson has a fix.In short, the scanner is excellent and lives up to the reviews. The software however has made it the equivalent of a brick. If this cannot be fixed I'll have to return the scanner.If they fix the problem all of my ratings will change to 4 or 5 stars.Carmine Prestia

We needed a new scanner and I selected this one based on technical reviews I found on it's ablility to scan slides and film. I have had it since just before Christmas.I am very happy with the 35mm slide scans I am getting with the Full Auto Mode and 300 dpi setting. The pictures look great at full screen view on my 24 inch monitor and 4x6 printed photos from the scans look great as well.It is more than adequate for my needs to digitize my slide collection. It is very easy to load and scan slides. You lay a template on the bed which has guides to get it in the right place and drop up to 4 slides in the open squares in the guide. It takes about 2.6 minutes to scan 4 slides with the settings above.Yes it will take time to scan a lot of slides, but I am willing to take the time because of the results.I had one very bad underexposed slide due to bright background light. It appears almost black even using a projector. I was able to get an acceptable picture using Professional Mode and Photoshop. That sold me on the unit and I have been very happy ever since.I have not tested scaned text conversion, but that is not a concern for me. I can make photocopies of documents and that is all I needed in that regard.I can definitely recommend this unit so far. Of course, at this stage I have no idea about durability, but it seems to be built pretty well.

I seem to continually need to replace scanners. I have moved a lot and this may be part of the problem with past scanners. Those have mostly been Canon scanners - and they just quit working with my computers (Wintel systems of varying brands). The scanners themselves always appear to power up, but just can't seem to connect to the computers.Anyway, this one has performed outstandingly. I have had the scanner for awhile now, and am using it to scan very old photographs that are being restored with Photoshop CS4. The scanning process is very much faster than I experienced with old scanners. Warm up time is near instantaneous. Just turn it on and start scanning. The scan itself is also very fast. I am scanning using 1200 dpi as that's about all I can get from the old photos that I am working with.There was absolutely no issues with Windows 7 and this scanner. Installation was fast and effortless.I highly recommend this scanner.

I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SOFTWARE. IT WAS NOT "MAC FRIENDLY" TOO BAD BECAUSE THE EPSON SCANNER I WAS REPLACING HAD BEEN GREAT. I SUGGESTED TO EPSON THAT THEY HAVE THEIR SOFTWARE TEAM CONSIDER ADOPTING THE "MAC" EXPERIENCE FOR SUCH SOFTWARE AS IWORKS, ETC. I WORKED WITH WHAT WAS PROVIDED AND EVEN FINALLY FIGURED OUT THAT I NEEDED TO DOWNLOAD IN ORDER TO GET SOMETHING TO WORK. FRANKLY, IT WAS EXCRUTIATING TO GET INTO MY MAC AND THEN VERY UNCLEAR ON HOW TO LAUNCH AND USE....I FINALLY DECIDED THAT IT WASN'T WORTH ANY MORE HOURS OF EFFORT. TO BAD...I LOVE MY EPSON PRINTERS.

Very disappointed, I bought this to replace my 5+ year old 4800 DPI Epson 4180, hoping to get some improvement in quality from the 6400DPI of V600. Also, Epson's lack of support for the drivers/software was making the 4180 increasingly difficult to use with OSX.Well, I was immediately disappointed in the scans from the V600, so did some direct comparisons to the 4180, @ 4800DPI the detail was pretty sharp on the old 4180, @4800DPI on the V600 most of that detail was missing and it was pretty fuzzy, scanning at 6400DPI which is supposed to be its optical resolution, everything became much worse fuzzy, blurry, just unusable. I wouldn't even consider using scans at higher resolutions from this scanner, I don't know how it can be this bad, unacceptable. At lower resolutions on the V600 600DPI for example, the color seemed improved over the 4180 and the detail was very nice, but that doesn't help me. Sadly my $170 Epson from 5+ years ago is a superior product. Unfortunately, Epson's installer for the V600 did something to the EpsonScan software so it won't even open which I need to use with the 4180. How can they get it so wrong? Sad, as there aren't many quality scanner choices out there, this clearly isn't one of them.

Since I switched to an I Mac from my 10 year old PC - I had to replace a lot extra equipment. The scanner was the first. This Epson V600 works great. Being almost retired I wanted to scan a lot of old slides. It does a very nice job.

Had slides from decades past, but no way to view or share them. This awesome scanner allowed us to saved them digitally and get good looking prints in the process. I'm going to spend this winter digitizing all our old stuff and then just tossing the bulky boxes of slides and negatives. What a brilliant space saving idea.

I was excited about the Photoshop software that is included. Not anymore. I know it isn't the full software but so far I have not been able to do much of anything useful with it. I ended up using Microsoft Paint instead, that should not be necessary. The scanner itself seems good but the software is pretty useless. I guess I'm going to buy some other program.

I am satisfied with the Epson scanner, but was not pleased that it shipped withPhotoshop Elements for outdated XP and Vista. I have Windows 7 and was assured that I would be getting Adobe Elements 8 for the latest Windows release.

I knew this was a great scanner when I scanned some photos, but where it stands out,(and the reason I bought it,)was in the scanning of my father's slide collection..literally, our life as a family.The Epson V600 not only delivered as it said it would, the quality was astounding,I finished the first "trial run" DVD for my Dad and family,and they just thought it was magic.They can't wait for the next one.This scanner is a valuable tool,I recommend it!

While I was waiting for my Epson v600 to get here,I read about the problems one person had using the Digital Ice on B&W negatives so I pulled out a bunch of B&W's so I could put the v600 to the test & I've had nothing but success. I'm using windows XP,not the windows 7 like the person that had problems is using. I have no clue to their issues,but it all works for me!I love the intuitive feel of this wonderful scanner. I put in film images with 12 pictures on the strips and the v600 delivers back to me 12 JPEG or TIFF files in a wide selection of sizes & deposits them in the My Pictures folder. It does the same thing with my slides,4 at a time.Using the wonderful Epson Perfection v600 Photo Scanner is a breeze,whether it's on film or slides or just the everyday documents that constantly come up in life, they all look sharp and perfect,often better than the original source.I'm really pleased with this scanner,it has such quality & usability at an incredible price. When I've gone to the local photo shop for the type of transfers I'm doing from slides/film to digital,the locals wanted (and got) $10 an image. For the cost of TIFFs from a roll of film, I own this baby!This scanner is the Greatest!!!

The Epson Perfection V600 photo scanner was excellent! It scanned quickly, quietly, and had easy directions to set up. The quality of the scans were perfect also.. For the price, it was definately well worth it. I haven't had the opportunity to scan the negatives or slides yet, but seeing that the quality was excellent when scanning the photographs, I would assume the same good quality for the latter. Overall I would give it 5 stars! I am very satisfied!

I am a fine art photographer and writer and acquired vintage photos for a project I am working on and needed to scan these into PhotoShop. I was concerned that in not purchasing an $800 scanner I would lose quality in the scanned object. Not so. This scanner is doing a beautiful job and it is easy to install and use. I highly recommend it. It is trouble free and the price is right.

I originally ordered the $308 Plustek 7500i scanner because of a smaller footprint on my computer table. However, I had a terrible time installing it (never did get it to work on Win 7 Ultimate) and had to finally put it on a Vista machine. Once installed the Plustek started giving error messages after only 7 slides were processed. Returned it and got a refund. (Amazon was very prompt in crediting my account) Then ordered the Epson Perfection V600. The V600 has the proper software for Win 7 which loaded quickly and flawlessly on my Win 7 Ultimate machine. Scans of 35 mm slides have produced splendid digitized results and I am quite pleased. While this machine takes up more desk space than the Plustek, the Epson works--a huge improvement! The cost savings of the Epson V600 over the Plustek machine is another real positive. Still learning to use all the features, but I am satisfied with the Epson machine and recommend it.

This is a great scanner - makes excellent high-resolution scans of photos; Digital ICE comes in handy with damaged prints; speed is good; software is easy to use and flexible enough for my needs; and it's reasonably priced. However, the thing that killed the deal for me and knocked off the fifth star was the presence of dust particles on the underside of the scanner glass. This was the case with two V600s I got from Amazon. This meant that every scan I made had little specks in those spots. You might expect some dust inside the machine after some wear and tear, but not right out of the box! Amazon was great and readily accepted the return of the first scanner, quickly sent out a second, and then recredited my account when I returned that one. I'll wait a while for Epson to deal with their quality control problems before ordering another.

The price of the scanner from Amazon enabled me to get the extras (scanning slides and negatives; dust removal; color restoration; backlighting and DIGITAL ICE Technology) I might not have from other sources. The scanner has done everything well so far. It took a little while to get used to (still learning) as I had been using an old flatbed from Visioneer for around 12 years. I'm even able to still use the old Visioneer Paperport software (that all my old scans are in)to access the new scanner or use the new software that came with it.It may not be super fast on the slides and positive film, but the quality more than makes up for it.

V600 works extremely well out of the box.I dont care much for Adobe software but it scans very wellthe Epson software and Elements seem to clash sometimefor 120 this is a no brainer get it,it scans more slides at a time than V500and the price is in the low 200sfor 135mm you might want something better(pricier)but I am happy with my purchase

Fast. Nice scans. Some of modes of operation are a bit puzzling, but work fine. Very nice that there is no significant warm up time.Have used only for reflective scans so far. No film or negative scanning yet.

I received the Epson Perfection V600 Scanner in record time from Amazon, installed the driver and scanned my first photo in just minutes. I've used equipment much like this for years so it may have been easier for me; however, the instructions were clear. The photo scanned beautifully and the file saved quickly. I have used middle priced Epson printers for yearsI have switched between a scanner and printer to an all-in-one and back again. The footprint of two pieces of equipment is larger than an all-in-one; however, I didn't have a choice but to purchase Vista last year making my all-in-one driver obsolete.

This scanner was easier to install than the basic printer I just bought! The software worked flawlessly with Vista and the installation directions were clear. If you have ever used a scanner before you probably won't have to refer to the User Guide at all to begin scanning. Everything is very intuitive. Four modes are offered with functions from simple to intricate to suit your needs. The OCR capabilities are better than on any other scanner I've used. The ability to scan slides is a big plus, though it would be nice if it could do more than 4 at a time. Included Digital Ice software did a remarkable job of cleaning up all the dust and scratches on on old slide. The improvement was really dramatic. A nice little photo editing program was also included. Scans are really fast and the machine is quiet. It does have a pretty large footprint for a single function machine but overall I'm very impressed with this product.

Setup was easy (Windows XP) and the quality of the product seems very high. Ease of use could not be simpler and the scanning results are superb. We upgraded from a top-of-the-line (and now outdated) Agfa scanner. This Epson is technically better in every catagory and at a fraction of the cost. Aside from sending out high resolution scans for large print reproduction, the V600 fulfills all of our in office scanning needs. And the included OCR software was a nice surprise. I can't imagine a more cost effective solution for general scanning projects.

I purchased this to replace an Epson Perfection 1650. Although the 1650 was a good printer, it never provided adequate transparency scans. Additionally, the drivers and software weren't fully compatible with Windows 7 (No Windows 7 64-bit driver for example). I'm extremely happy with the ease of use and the quality of the scans. It is also nice to have the LED light source that has intant warm-up versus the 1650. The included software is not perfect, but it is adequate for what I need. Also, the included Photoshop Elements is current version and lists for around $100.

I have taken on the task of digitizing all the family photos, slides and negatives and chose the Epson V600 based on reviews, features and price. So far it has exceeded my expectations, excellent quality and basic features that have saved me time, like scanning multiple photos at a time and then being able to break them out into separate files before sending to my computer.I would recommend this as a high quality scanner for under $200 with a lot of the features of a much higher priced model.

I bought this scanner to scan 1000's of old slides and photos that I'd accumulated over the years. I've now done nearly 2000 scans and just love the machine. Very easy to use. Incredibly intuitive. OUTSTANDING quality scans. (I've been using 600 dpi and it's very fast). I can't say enough. The V600 has definitely exceeded my expectations. And, to top it off, it ships with Adobe Photo Elements, which is great/easy to use in making additional tweeks . . . adjusting skin tone, eliminating red eye, and so forth.

The Epson Perfection v600 Photo Color Scanner is a good buy considering all it offers. The Digital ICE for prints is superb with its photo restoration features. Slides, photographs, and other media scanned in well with this product, as well as negatives from our artwork. We only wish the scanning bed was larger.In addition to its fully automatic scanning, one of the best (unique) features we appreciate is the ability to convert scanned documents (e.g. papers or books) into *editable* text. This proves highly useful both in the office and perhaps for students too. Plus, one may instantly scan, copy, or scan-to-email and create PDFs via the push of exterior buttons. All around a great buy!

This thing is SWEET!So far it has scanned everything that I have thrown at it with ease!Setup was simple and painless on Windows 7 Ultimate. Even includes a USB cable so hookup was also a breeze.This thing scans everything, photos, negatives, books, full page copies.I have tried the included software and it clears up older photos that are showing wear perfectly!Even photos that are torn and bent it fixes them with ease!Full page/book scanning is also perfect - nice, rich, and crisp text and photos.I haven't had the pleasure of trying any negatives though but I am sure the Epson wont let me down!Out of 5 stars I give this scanner a 15!

Bought this to replace a 5 year old Canon scanner that had no 64 bit drivers available. The scans are phenomenal! The footprint and overall size is larger than expected, but it's well worth the money. Very flexible software, from its basic default to numerous customized settings. Installation was a breeze.
