I need to revise and correct the mixed review I gave of this scanner a few hours ago. I reported that, although it produces outstanding images, is easy to use, and is reasonably priced, I ran into a problem. After the first 50 or so slides I scanned, a thin blue, vertical line started appearing on every image, extending from the top to bottom. I assumed there was a technical problem, which made me question its reliability.I went to Epson's website, and found that the problem could be solved very simply: by cleaning both upper and lower scanning surfaces!I now give this scanner a well-deserved 5-star rating. I am very happy with the results I am getting.

I needed a scanner to copy many, many old photos that my quite elderly aunt has. I did a lot of research and ended up buying this one for two reasons: Apple recommended it for a MacBook Air which I had bought recently and the generally good reviews. I had planned to test it at home but ended taking it with me unopened on the plane. The only real problem I had setting it up was that to install the Epson software for a Mac you have to download the software - the CD provided only works for Windows, although there is a CD provided for loading Photoshop elements. Quite confusing, but the online help function was very helpful.I am amazed at how it restored old colored photos. There was one of my mother from around 1950 that was very yellow. I could barely see who was in it. It restored the photo. This is a picture that I had never seen. It brought to life a period in my now-deceased mother's life.The scanner also copied many old photos in black and white and also in sepia from the early 1900's. It restored them and provided me with lovely pictures of my grandmother and great-grandmother.I scanned over 600 photos in three days. That was made possible because of the other incredible feature. You can place multiple pictures on the scanner and if they are separated, the scanner recognizes them as separate pictures and scans them separately. This allowed me to scan the pictures four and five at a time. A huge timesaver.I am not a techie. Frankly, I didn't understand many of the reviews - way too technical for me. I used the auto functions and am very pleased with the result.The scanner is lightweight. I took it as a carry-on on United. The box was 144 linear inches and United allows a carry-on to be 145 inches.

I got this originally to scan some old slides. Once done with that, I moved on to every photograph and kids' art project in the house. (Ok, I'm not done yet, but I get credit for getting started on them, right?)The color correction is amazing. The slides had some photos where all the whites had yellowed. They're bright, sparkling white again now.It does take a little time for the scans if you have all the bells and whistles going, but if you want fast go buy something cheaper with less quality.

This is a fine built machine that does 35mm material and medium format material and prints well. I have tried to do 120 negatives with limited success. The masks and software limits what can be done with other formats. The masks are indeed delicate and must be handled carefully but once you have your film in the machine the operation is straight forward. After preview it allows color, brightness, etc. adjustments. It sounds like a robot as it hums and beeps as it processes the film. It does batches of 8 negatives nicely and took about 4 minutes depending on dpi setting. I was doing old negatives so I used 400 dpi. Don't try to do something not designed for it. I tried to mix B&W with color negatives. It quit and I had to uninstall and re-install the software to get it working again.

Epson B11B198011 Perfection V600 Photo ScannerI recieved mine for a gift at Chrismas. Simple to install and to use. My first project was 35mm slides they turned out fantastic. This is good I have 3000 of them. My wife joined me with some really old Black and White photo's. The Customize button helped restore the picture by lighting up the really dark areas and automatically put them into (our Pictures) so we had no problem locating them.I had done quite a lot of research on the scanners H.P had lots of problems and alot more money. My printer is an Epson Photo R220 older but very reliable. I would recommend the Scanner V600 to anyone wanting a fast and simple to operate piece of equipment..MY WIFE LOVES IT!

Easily the simplest and easiest scanner to setup and use. Intuitive controls on the scanner and software make it a breeze to operate. I have already scanned 1200 photos of all sizes and am currently on 1600 slides. Doing 4 slides at a times really saves time. It looks like it will survive the rest of the 3000+ slide.s and 4000+ photos to scan yet. I highly recommend this scanner. It is clearly a high quality product at a great price. Kudos to Epson!

This scanner has blown me away. It far surpassed what I expected. I've done over a thousand scans so far of negatives over 50 years old. It performs beautifuly. The built in scanner software (color restoration) has breathed new life into these old memories. This is an excellent piece of equipment that will allow me to build a photo archive for my family. Easy to use and set up, it's been a great tool.

I researched scanners for quite a while before deciding on this one. I'm glad I selected it. Absolutely top notch product. I've scanned thousands of slides, negatives and photos at 2400 bpi. This provides a 3.8-4Mb file size generally. The scanner operation has been flawless for a year now. The software is intuitive and excellent. I use the Color Restoration and Digital ICE functions on almost all slides and negatives. Results are amazing. I checked with a professional photo shop in Mt. Vernon WA about their scanner. To my surprise (and happiness) they use the V600 for all their professional work and also think it is the best. High praise indeed! I echo that.

When my Epson V500 Photoo Scanner died unexpectantly I upgraded to the V600. To me this was a no brainer. When the V600 arrived the setup was as simple as the V500. Following the instruction it was up and running in just a few minutes. I cannot say that the scan quality is better than the V500. However, for the price and ease of use it does a great job. When this one departs this world I'll definitely move up to the next "V" series scanner.

Worked great on my Mac. Nice scan of slides. High resolution is great. The trick is downloading the software from EPSON's web site, as the instructions tell you to do. Do not insert the CD. Up and running in 10 minutes. Using Mountain Lion OXS 10.8.2Only disappointment was flimsy plastic on beds for scanning slides, negatives, etc. Had this been better (and not feeling like they would break at any moment . . . You can do better here EPSON!) would have given 5 stars.

I have an epson 1640su scanner that worked fine for me on my old xp system and is still in good shape. BUT when my old xp system died and I replaced it with a windows 7 x64 system I was shocked to find that Epson didn't provide a compatible driver. I had some work to do, so I followed their recommendation and bought a piece of software from Hammrick that is supposed to support my new operating system. The results are inconsistent....sometimes it recogizes the 1640, others times not. My understanding after some web searches is that providing a compatible driver is a relatively small task. So now I have to replace a perfectly functioning scanner and I can guarantee you it won't be another Epson!!

I've had several Epson products over the past 12-15 years, including scanners. I purchased the V600 primarily because I believed that my old family b/w negatives (2.75" x 4.5") could be converted to positive images so that they could finally be printed. As it turns out, the V600 only handles negative strips that fit in two templates. I replaced a perfectly operative Epson scanner for the V600. Very disappointed!

I am undertaking a project to scan every photo, slide, negative etc. that we have amassed over the last thirty or so years. My wife has color slides from the 60's, and we have a lot of negatives that we don't even know if we have the pictures to any longer. I expect it to take a year to get everything scanned, and who knows how long after that to get it organized.The scanner set up very easy, I downloaded an update of the software from the Epson site after seeing that the version it came with was older. No problems there.The software is really very easy to use. I have played around with the settings and came up with ones that are getting me good results. I have been scanning three pictures at a time, which in itself is very nice and a great time saver. I love how you don't have to put stuff in the corner (origin) but just place anywhere on the scanner and it finds it.I scanned about 100 slides and got excellent results, have also scanned about 20 or so picture from color negatives with great results as well.A couple of things I noticed when scanning slides and negatives is if you have them upside down(which isn't real apparent) you get reversed images. Took me awhile to figure that out.As others may have said, the holders for the slides and negatives seems flimsy, but I imagine they will last and work just fine if you take care of them. The scanner itself doesn't feel cheap, but remember it is under $200, so it doesn't have a high quality feel either.For the money, this is a great machine to crank through a mountain of family photos, slides and negatives. If I wanted to spend more I may have looked seriously at the Epson 750, which looks like an excellent upgrade.Finally, don't try to tackle photo scanning projects on all in one machines, they just lack the features of a real scanner. Again, for what this cost you will be glad to have spent the money.

We bot this to scan slide films, It is easy setup, easy to operate, & excellent quality. Can load 4 slides at a time, in easy slots, click to scan & in about 3 to 4 minutes all 4 are scanned with very good quality. Each slide is put into a separate file, & you can designate where to store them. No problems. strong recommendation to buy.

I love this scanner. I can make multi-page PDFs without having to piece anything together in Adobe software. That function alone makes it 100% worth the price. I scan in all of my receipts at the end of the year. If I need to look something up, like a car receipt from 2011, all I need to do is open the 2011 Auto Receipts PDF.That is not why I bought this scanner. I bought it for scanning old 120 photos. It is a great negative scanner, but unfortunately my negatives are not in strips anymore and they don't sit flat enough in the tray. When you look at the tray, you might think that is fine. You will have to card them.

I was going through some things in my fireproof "safe", and realized that I could scan the huge collection of negatives (and some slides) accumulated over the years. The ex-wife has the photo albums, and I could always copy the pictures in them, but scanning negatives - even better! So, did some research and the Epson products seemed to offer good functionality and versatility for the price. I went for the higher-end of their lower-end scanners because I've got thousands of negatives, and this model holds two strips of negatives at a time.So far, it's provided far better results than I was expecting. When I have time, I'll update this review with some of my personal experiences using the scanner. For now, I'll just say that it takes a LONG time to scan a negative if you want high-resolution - something I'm willing to deal with for the more special pictures. Even at 300dpi it takes a minute or so per negative. With the results, I'm good with that - though.

The scanner works fine, but after having a basic question, and attempting to deal with Epson's tech support, this will be the last Epson product I buy. After asking my question, and receiving an obvious boiler-plate reply that had little to do with my problem, and then attempting to follow up with them, and getting NO further help, I think Epson needs to obviously do a complete revamp of their tech support system.

I've had this for a couple of years now and it does what I expect of a home scanner. I don't use it often, and so I'm a bit clumsy with the software and operation, but I get good digital files from various kinds of originals, including slides. What more can you ask?

I bought this for my Mom to scan her old negatives and it is awesome. We are now able to print pictures from 50 years ago which would have been lost forever. The software is a little difficult to work with for photo editing, but once you get the hang of it it works well.

It works fine so far and the software is easy to use. I had an Epson model prior to this one and the only reason to get rid of it was because there was no support for it with the newer O.S.

I was looking to upgrade my old Epson scanner that I had been using for about 5 years. There was nothing wrong with it but I wanted to take advantage of some of the newer advancements. I knew I would be going with another Epson and the price on Amazon was exactly what I was looking for. If you are in the market for a great scanner this is the one to purchase.

The scanner itself is great and works fantastic. It does a great job with film and slides scanning.The only issue I have is the software that you have to deal with. It is quite cumbersome and I still am struggling with it. I've had several scanners in the past but this is the first Epson. I would definetely recommend this scanner.

I scan tons of negatives, slides and pictures and this thing has held up really nice. Had some quirks with it in the past but the bugs seam to have been worked out. Not sure if it was a software issue or hardware issue, but it's been working fine for a long time now. The quality of the scaned items is great and the software is pretty easy to use. Personally, I like the way it looks too. Just wish they had included a plate for 110 film negatives.

Sure, you've read the other critical reviews about folks saying "spend $700 on this other scanner because it's 'better'". I'd imagine it is on some small level to those who are very very picky about details, but for this price point, wow, I'm truly impressed.I had 1 purpose for this scanner: I'm archiving family pictures that have been stored at various houses since the 40's, amazing they've survived this long, they need to be archived digitally so they're not gone forever.There are 2 options with the Epson software that I am using ALOT am am very impressed with. - I can load up as many pictures fit on the scanner and it automatically diferentiates which pics are different, numbers them, allows you to auto rotate before scanning and auto-numbers the filename outputs. This is a HUGE time saver. As I type this, I have 11 small pictures on the scanner that it's systematically scanning through each as if they were put on the flatbed at different times. What a time saver, I didn't expect this. - The 4 slide / 35mm positive holder. I only poked around for a few hours but I actually found the best results for these slides is automatic mode with color & dust correction. Again what's great is the software knows where the image is in the slide and just scans that. I have pictures from the early 60's that look like they were taken with my 16 megapixel digital camera. My wive and Mom both looked at them and literally said "wow, no way!" Simply amazing.I'm sure there's better scanners and better scanner software out there but for all the negative reviews that I read about epson software, Ive found it to be very good and the scanner is just excellent.I'd recommend this to anyone without hesitation.
