This is a great product. It came quickly with no hitches, and it is truly a plug and play. I am very happy with it!

I love that they now have a on off switch on the side so I don't have to unplug the scanner. I just feel better being able to turn it off so I know it's not getting started by my cats.It does a nice job scanning, however it would have gotten 5 stars if it actually scanned edge to edge. I've since found out that most scanners don't, yet what I'm scanning needs edge to edge scanning so it means making an adjustment where you place the item your scanning.I haven't yet scanned film, or used the text conversion. At this point I would most likely purchase it again.

Although I am still learning it's capabilies I am very pleased with the V600. The only negative thing so far is that the color slides appear too dark after scanning. The weird thing is that even though they look too dark, if I make a print they are almost normal! I use Picasa to edit them and they are fine. I called tech support and naturally got some Indian that I had trouble understanding and he was not much help. One thing I did learn is that the user guide says that color slides can only be scanned in the "Full Auto" mode. This is a mistake. He suggested I scan them in the "Professional" mode which I am now doing. I was planning to buy one of the small $100 scanners, but thanks to a friend of mine I decided to get the V600. Excellent advice!

I got rid of my last scanner about 12 years ago. Back then, they were slow, worked poorly with slides and negatives, and the drivers caused unmitigated grief for your computer. So it was with some trepidation that I installed the V600 onto our MacBook running Snow Leopard and HP laptop running Vista.I need not have worried. The included software performed flawlessly, and the scanner creates amazing scans even when using the fully automatic settings. I have uploaded three scans, all using the automatic settings: * White horse, scanned from a print made from a digital camera * Candy scanned from objects on the scanner bed * A dog's tail, also scanned from the the live objectAll three scans (especially the candy and dog's tail) are courtesy of my 12-year old daughter, who is getting very creative with the V600. Epson has delivered software that makes the whole scanning experience easy while still delivering high quality results. The film scanner uses special trays (included) and a separate light source, and delivers 6400 dpi. The automatic results are decent, actually a lot better than my neighbor's scanner that cost three times as much as this one. But for great film or negative results, grab a copy of VueScan on the web. Scanners are actually very complex animals, with color profiles a myriad of available settings (which are mostly kept under the hood of the included Epson software). If you want to tweak your results, VueScan is the best solution. It directly supports the V600, and includes profiles for dozens of different negative and transparency film stocks. The results are substantially better than what you can get with the included software.I haven't found a flaw with this product yet. 5 stars for sheer delight.

All I had to do was plug it in and turn it on.I am still learning the different scanning modes. I learned from a photography site that for the best photo quality, I needed to go to Professional mode and set the dpi to 1200. It isn't required for just scanning a photo to send by email.

This scanner is really easy and simple to use. It scans great pictures...but the best part is that the software knows when you're scanning multiple pictures at the same time and will treat the pictures as separate pictures. With my last scanner, it would scan the entire screen and that would be the image...it wasn't "smart" enough to realize that there were multiple pictures on the screen. I'd definitely recommend getting this scanner to anyone (especially those looking to digitize their physical pictures).

This is a great product with one significant flaw. Setup was easy and the interface with Windows 7 seamless. Software is intuitive and offers a full range of contol for image manipulation. Image quality is superb, even at relatively low resolution. As you'd expect with any flatbed scanner, static electricity is a challenge that can be met with some anti-static wipes and an air blower. But, if like me, you use the V600 primarily for scanning negatives in strips, the neg holders will make you scream. They're flimsy and finnicky and a constant annoyance. That aside, the V600 is a cost-efffective, high quality solution for anyone who wants the ability to digitally process film images.

I've become accustomed to being disappointed on most computer/software products. This one surprised me because it works just fine -- So far. The real test will come if I ever need service. The scanning software, is more than adequate. A few things are not exactly intuitive, for me at least, which accounts for the 4 stars - rather than 5 stars. Didn't take long to figure out all I needed to know for my first rather large project of scanning old photos and slides. I'm glad I bought it.

This is the first - and hopefully only - scanner I've ever bought. My parents have passed away, and, as you probably guessed, I am scanning in 80 years worth of photos. It's a huge project.I can't compare this scanner to others, but it is doing the job for me. What I've been doing is letting it do its thing while I'm doing something else - like typing in this review, for example. As the specs mention, it's got a big scanning surface. It's also got different plastic trays for holding differently-sized negatives, and slides. The one definite thing I can say about this is to buy the Epson V600 instead of the V500. If you're like me, and you're scanning in lots of old crinkly photos, the V600 has the ability to get rid of some of the dust, folds, and wear and tear on the photo when you're scanning it in. The difference between the two is that for whatever reason, the V500 can only do that on slides or negatives. So to be able to have this ability on all your old photos, it's worth the $40 difference in price, if you ask me.The one downside to this scanner is the speed. Again, I have nothing to compare this to, but I am scanning in photos at a relatively high resolution, 1200 dpi, so that I never ever have to scan them ever again. It takes a good long while, about 2 minutes a photo, to scan. The nice thing is that you can put 4 or 6 photos on the scanning surface (depending on size) and it will generally identify them as separate photos, and scan each in as its own file. This obviously saves a lot of time, but it takes 8 or more minutes to scan.

I am extremely happy with this scanner. It is easy to set-up and use. And you can't beat the price. For a non-professional like me it pretty much is a no brainer. Just to give you an idea I am scanning my uncles slides - over 1300. A local camera shop wants $0.59 per slide which works out to over $800. I was scanning slides the day it arrived!

I purchased this scanner to scan old photos for digital restoration. I use Photoshop to restore photos, so I was interested in seeing how much work the scanner could save me. I have scanned different kinds of media, from post cards to black and white photos to new photos, and unfortunately I cannot vouch for the "DIGITAL ICE" technology or the other features like backlight correction. In most cases the ICE works as expected, removing dust and scratches from the image. However, on some occasions, photos scan in with some strange digital anomalies. For example a person's white shirt had become a reflective silver, or a painting on the wall was blurred across the length of the wall. I don't know why this happens, but when I turn off ICE, it does not have these issues. Also, the lid is designed to detach, but for some reason they made it completely loose. It comes off the hinges if you open it a little too quickly or at the wrong angle. They should have added a clip or button to unlock the lid rather than leaving it loose.I would love to have an "auto-loader" style scanner so I can scan in many photos at a time, but those scanners are either too expensive or just for document scanning. Being a flat-bed, you have to constantly open it, swap the photos and close it, then scan, and repeat. So even if you don't use ICE or any of the other enhancing features, it is still easy to set up and use, and takes high quality scans.

Even the kodachromes are coming out very close to the original. Some of these photos are prety beaten up. Digital Ice does a decent job as long as the photo damage wasn't too extensive.Scanner was very easy to set up on my Mac. So I cannot give a full review yet as I cannot use the scanner. I did some research before ordering this scanner and probably should of listened. Epson has had some issues with customer support and others have not received parts with there order. I was going to give it a shot anyway.UPS showed up and man was I excited it has been a long time since I have had a scanner and I have never had one that does negatives or slides. I have massive amounts of photos I want to preserve. I opened the box and BAM no cords at all No power no ac adapter no usb cords. This was supposed to be a NEW product. How can it be missing cords? (wonder if they are selling refubed for new) I called Amazon. Well I have to return the product and wait for a new one... thats another 2 weeks or call Epson and tell them about it.I chose to call Epson. Its was a semi pain in the tookus but not bad however they did not seem surprised that it was missing parts. And they were not very nice about it. So I have to wait another 2 to 7 biz days to get the cords... hope they send the right ones.I will review again after I get the cords... man to get a good scanner seems out of the question nowadays.Epson Perfection v600 Photo Color Scanner (B11B198011)

INITIAL REVIEW:I was so looking forward to scanning slides during my vacation from work. This scanner looked to be the ideal product.Unpacked it today to get started. It made a partial pass on a picture scan and froze with a blinking orange light. After a few hours of driver downloads and re-installations I noticed thatwhat I thought was a packing piece turned out to be a broken part off the scanner.A small gray "Transport Lock" switch.I am guessing that the other broken part is inside the scanner blocking thelight carrier.I am returning this and hopefully get to upgrade my review when thereplacement arrives. hopefully before my vacation is over.REVISED ADDITION:Ok, Amazon made it seriously easy for me to get a replacement and to send back the original broken scanner. What I noticed on the second scanner, that arrived very quickly, was that the gray transport lock switch was taped with the blue packing tape, the first one wasn't.After setting the new one up again I did some test scans of photos that turned out good, then I sunk into the slide scanning I wanted to do and was extremely happy with the results. The slides I am scanning are 60 years old, full of dust but the scanner does a great job on them.Loving the scanner so far.Revised from 1 star to 5 stars.

I am late writing this review, but at least you know the device holds up well.I have used it for capturing slides, old negatives, regular prints, text documents. There is no counter on it, but I suspect I have scanned about 1000 pictures so far.It is simple to set-up and use.

I purchased the Epson Perfection V600 Photo to convert slides and it, with my Adobe program did a beautiful job.My only request is that Epson develop a scanner that will allow more than 4 slides. Years ago, I had one that would allow 8 slides.Thank you Epson for a great product.

Over the last 15 years we've owned quite a few scanners, ranging in price from $80-$600. Of all those, this is easily the best scanner we've used.So far we've used it for everything from copying simple documents to scanning slides and film that I've been wanting to convert to digital for years. The results have been amazing! These are the things I like about it:1) I've owned scanners that could scan film and slides before, but this is the first one that does a good enough job for me to feel like I can sit down and do the work without having to redo it again in a few years. I've been scanning these at 600 dpi and turned the JPEG compression level down to 5 in the Epson Scan software - and the images have looked great. The software is also smart enough to automatically split the slides or film images into their own files.2) The scanner is easy to use and has a high quality feel. The easy access buttons on the front are also convenient.3) This scanner is able to start scanning immediately without the typical, irritating warm-up time that most scanners have. This is especially nice when I want to make a quick copy of something.4) The software options in the Epson Scan software are fairly comprehensive. The only time I really use this software directly is for bulk scanning (like when I'm scanning slides) and it has everything I need for that.5) The included Photoshop Elements software is a nice application that we've already been using for a while. I just wish they had bundled version 8 instead of version 7:).6) I'm running this scanner under Windows 7 x64 and it works great. I was a bit worried that there may be some driver issues, but that has not been a problem at all.The scanner itself would be hard to beat (especially in this price range); but, there are some things I hope Epson will consider changing in the software:1) The auto-numbering scheme for files in the Epson Scan software leaves a lot to be desired. There is absolutely no intelligence built into it, which makes it hard if two people are scanning into the same directory from different computer accounts. The way it works is that you have to manually specify the starting picture number and the scanner uses that number for the next picture - regardless of whether that same number was already used by another account. It's just kind of a hassle to have to look up what the next image number should be when the software could easily do that automatically.2) I wish the copy program had a way to scan directly to the printer with nobody logged on.Overall, I highly recommend this scanner.

I'm so glad I chose this scanner. Easy to set up (just follow the instructions in quick start guide). First night I did test scans of photos, slides, and negatives. Very impressed. I've been scanning old photos and using full auto mode so far. I scanned a 2X3 B&W school photo and am amazed at the excellent quality -- this photo is over 40 years old! I could easily print a 5x7 or 8x10 from it. Placing multiple photos (up to six at a time) on the glass and it accurately selects each individual photo -- mix of B&W and color doesn't slow it down. Only glitch so far is that it doesn't recognize the 110mm format negatives but I figured that would be a bonus if it did, not a negative that it doesn't. (I didn't even remember the 110mm format until I ran across the negatives.)
