I am reasonably technical; not a guru but capable of making most devices that can work, work. The D-Link 825 is horrible! I am not angry that D-Link has designed a lemon. It happens to all manufactuers. I am mad because they left it on the market and did not provide a solution to those of us who have been plagued with problem after problem. I am really being polite. I have struggled with poor connectivity, speeds that start fast, get slower than finally disconnect in less than a minute. A lot of connectivity issues. Wireless N on the 5GHz channel 20' away passing through one sheetrock wall loses connectivity. My netbook with Intel 5300 AGN occassionally locks up. The only time this has ever happened is when I am connected to this router. I could go on but writing about this POS gets me more angry. 10+ calls to support would indicate that their tech support reps do this because they are incapable of doing anything else in life. Okay, maybe that was a little harsh but not too far off the mark.It appears D-Link did come up with a new Rev. B build. Not sure if that improved anything but it was never offered as a potential solution. If it worked as advertised, I would be a happy camper. Shareport almost works. I am taking a step back and getting a Linksys WRT56GL. I had one before and after providing many years of trouble free service, finally failed.

This device works as described. The extended range and dual bands were what we needed to connect all the devices in our home as well as our Blue-ray/Netflix players. It wasn't the easiest router that I have set up but technical assistance was excellent and walked me through my sticking point. The router does occasionally disconnect from devices as other have noted in reviews but the range is excellent and that makes up for an occasional reset. I have found that pulling the power on the router and letting it reset works more often than restarting the disconnected device. I would purchase this router again. Amazon service and delivery were excellent as usual.

One of the selling points for me on this device was the shareport which promised to allow the router's USB port to be accessible by the computers on the network. Which it does. I can connect a USB drive to the device and the computer, eventually, sees it as if it were physically plugged in. The problem is that it's basically useless unless you use it for printing. It's way too slow to be used as a file server. I was getting transfer speeds between 500 kbps and 1 mbps which is just a little over a medium speed broadband connection. When I moved the drive to a physically network attached computer I transferred the same file at 7 Megabytes per second. The old linksys wrt350n would share files at 2 Megabytes per second. So if you're going to attach storage to this router you'll have to spend extra to get a network attached drive, don't even think about using the USB port. That said, the USB port is cool if you have a usb modem with your cell phone provider, you can plug it in and share your wireless 3g/evdo. And it's nice, if clunky, to share a printer (but next time splurge and get a wifi printer, they're cheap enough these days).USB aside I'm very pleased with the networking capabilities. No dropped connection on long file transfers or backups. My wireless N computers talk on the 5g band and leave the 2g band for the wireless Gs so I'm getting solid 300mbps ratings on my N connections. I was even able to set up a guest internet access for friends without granting them full access to my entire home network. It's a good buy, but don't buy it if you're really serious about wanting to hook up a usb drive and share files off it. Unless you have a seriously slow internet connection you'd be better off using the cloud storage solutions as they're free and (unfortunately) nearly as fast. I can't say for certain but everything about this port screams USB 1.0.

The setup of this router was very quick and easy. The options available for configuration are impressive. Without making any changes, our Xbox live connection worked great. When using other routers opening many ports is required for good operation. The great thing about this router is the ability to simultaneously create 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. Another bonus is the ability to create a guest network on each.

would like to start off by saying I FREEKIN LOVE AMAZON!!!! it does not matter what it is, if you are a chep SOB like myself i can almost bet you it is on here cheaper than anywhere else that I know of. I give this adapter a perfect score, does exactly what it is supposed to, with minimal installation effort. The only problem I had was that I am running windows 7, and the included driver disk is not compatible. But with the greatest of ease I was able to locate a suitable driver and get it up and running in no time flat. THANKS AGAIN AMAZON YOU FREEKIN ROCK!

Several months ago, I had bought the D-Link DIR-655, a lower model that did not do 5GHz. It would not get a DHCP address from my ISP and I eventually returned it.I decided to try again, this time with the DIR-825. Same problem - no DHCP. This time, D-Link support was more helpful and guided me to the actual problem, which was that the router failed to "auto-negotiate" the Ethernet link speed from my FiOS optical network block. No other router or PC I had tried had such a problem. The second-level support rep had me change the speed to 10Mbps (instead of the default 10/100/1000 auto) and it worked.Well, sort of. What's the point of a 15Mbps service with a 10Mbps Ethernet link? Could I set it to 100Mbps? Yes. Did it work? No. But I then had a think. I grabbed an Ethernet switch I had elsewhere in the house and put that between the FiOS connection and the router. Success! The switch negotiated the speed just fine and presented the router with a GigE link. So off to local store I go and I find the same model Netgear GigE switch on sale for $30. Install that and I'm in business. Now that it works, I'm very happy with the features and performance of the DIR-825. One can adjust the properties of the 2.4 and 5GHz radios separately, and it has a "Guest Zone" feature which might come in handy some day. I get a strong signal throughout the house and it can be configured in detailed ways or just left alone.I used manual configuration so can't comment on D-Link's CD-based setup. I have used the WiFi Protected Setup feature, where you just enter a passcode (printed on the bottom of the router or you can generate a new one in the admin panel) and it retrieves the key automatically. Very neat.If the DIR-825 does the auto-negotiation for you properly, then that's great. If not, you can install a switch (more power and higher price) or look for another brand. I conclude that the Ethernet transceiver D-Link uses is not as good as that of other brands.

Have hardware vB. Like many others, continuously required reboots. Wound up using it as a "N" standard wireless access point off my 4300, which works fine that way. But, that's an expensive access point.

Having been frustrated with my Linksys WAP-4400N (Wireless Access Point) I decided to look for something new. I was looking for just an access point vs a router, but with the great reviews I've read on the D-Link DIR-825, thought I'd give it a try. I already have a router that I like to use for my Internet traffic, basically a computer running Kerio's Winroute Firewall. I use this for DHCP and NAT already so I didn't need the router functionality.I initially had a problem with setting this unit up. I accessed the admin page manually, without using the CD and had no problems. The problem that I did have is that I assumed that I should hook up the Internet port of the DIR-825 to my existing local network. This works... but with a couple of issues that I found. The Internet port is only 100 Mbps (which in a normal configuration would be great since my cable modem doesn't even go that fast). Also, it wasn't relaying the DHCP requests to my router. It actually didn't take me long to realize that I have to disconnect the Internet port and plug in one of the LAN ports to my existing network. Now everything works fine. Just be sure to turn off the DIR-825's built-in DHCP server, and I also turned off SPI.The laptops in the house report a connection speed of 300 Mb/s, where I would only get up to 144 Mb/s with my Linksys WAP-4400N. I can feel the performance difference too, and do like the dual-band functionality. Several people on here already talk about the dual-band so I won't talk about it here.I am actually quite impressed with the great amount of options and control in the admin that I'm actually thinking of making this my primary router to save some power and I'll shut down my PC running Kerio.

Purchased this router and within days was having problems of it dropping the internet (WAN) connection and having to be reset on average every day. Many, many others are experiencing this same problem (see the [...] for you self!). I have latest version of both hardware and firmware (Hardware Version: B1, Firmware Version: 2.02NA) so not having most recent updates is NOT the issue. Issue is D-Link makes $#^&$#. Don't buy...

I bought a wireless router D-Link 825 three months ago. Installation was straight forward and the N-band is quite strong. I can use the router 90 feet away from my computer to display on my TV and I can streamline a whole Netflix movie over a wireless connection without failure even with only a two bar signal. I use Comcast and a one year hold portable Dell or HP with Vista, both are clean of viruses and adwares. The G band is not strong enough to do it but the N band does it. At 90 feet across walls, I sometimes loose the connection with other websites but not Netflix, they have an optimizer that fine tune the connection. Depending of your equipment and setting, this can be quite a good buy.

I purchased this looking for an inexpensive, yet feature complete Wireless-N Router, I couldn't be any happier. This router has so many features I will never utilize them. It has Dual Band wireless (meaning, two separate wireless networks) in addition to the ability to have a Guest network which can be either a 2.4 or 5 network - so really it would be triple band router. The amount of data that I've put through the router simultaneously is amazing - streaming HD video via wireless-n from one computer to another, while being able to browse the internet using the second band without any noticeable speed difference.I did give the product 4 stars because of my experiences with the signals. I'm not sure if it's my building and the way electronic devices and metal appliances are positioned throughout my condo - but wireless-n has noticeably less signal strength than wireless-g. For example, on my computer that has a Wireless-N Adapter, the Wireless-G band appears at full signal strength, whereas the Wireless-N band appears at 80% signal strength. I thought Wireless-N was supposed to have better signal strength than G?Overall, I'm very pleased with the device and even though the Wireless-N signal strength isn't up to par with the Wirelss-G, the throughput of Wireless-N is still as high as expected.

When I first bought the router it seemed to operate OK. However, the latest firmware download has caused a big issue which requires the router to be rebooted almost daily. This is a known problem and D-Link seems to be doing little about it. I would avoid this router if I were you and pay for something that works. I wasted $150 on this router and won't be buying a D-Link product again.

I purchased this router thinking it would speed up my network and it did, kinda. If I am sitting in the same room as the router, about 6 ft away from it, I can transfer at anywhere from 9.8 - 11.9 megabytes per second. Wonderful! Then I walked out of the room. I have an open floor plan so no solid walls were between me and the router and the transfer speed dropped to 4.6-6.2 megabytes per second. I got that with my Belkin that I was replacing. I was afraid to try upstairs. 2.4 Ghz is far speedier than 5 Ghz. It was going to take a full 35 minutes to xfer a gig on the 5 Ghz so forget it.Shareport could not find the router on through any of my computers. Customer service is non existent. It is being returned.

Picked this up after my old Netgear router was making a high-pitched whine and I had had it with my Airport Express' constant dropped signals. I then proceeded to wait to intall it because of all the warnings about the complicated set-up. When I finally did get around to it, it went VERY smoothly. There's a decent "wizard" in the included software that I think got everything working in a matter of minutes. It would be nice if they included printed instructions, but the electronic manual on the CD is pretty good and helped me sort out a little confusion I had (that was of my own making - the wizard had actually set everything up properly). My system: Cable modem, one wired desktop computer, one wi-fi laptop, one Airport Express (for streaming music to my stereo), and a wi-fi iPod touch. The ONLY difficult part of the setup was the Airport, but that was the fault of that device, not the router (I couldn't reprogram it for the new network remotely, so I had to re-set it and reprogram it over ethernet). Now I get ZERO dropout, not even the microwave interferes with the music stream. The router is silent and the lights are a cool and un-annoying blue. I live in a Brooklyn apartment building and it serves up a great signal even out to the elevator. On the flip-side, there's plenty of security options so my neighbors are hopefully not snooping on my network.I have not tried the USB port, but am looking forward to using it for serving up media to my yet-to-be-purchased netbook. I will update this when I do.

I do not know much about routers. I just want to say this router works great with my new HP vista 64 bit home premium computer. Prior I used an AT&T modem and router combo (provided by my AT&T, DSL provider) with my old windows XP computer. I connected my new Vista computer and it constantly threw me off the internet when I went wireless. I would have to reboot my new computer each time this happened. I spent hours on the phone with the AT&T support. I was told over and over that the old router is okay. Finally someone at HP computer support told me it is probably the router inside my modem. I guess the software in vista 64 bit is not compatible with some of the routers software out there. That is why I purchased the d-link, because it is Vista certified. Installation was easy. I did need to call customer support once with a question and got through immediately. I have this router two weeks and have not been thrown off the internet once. I have both my window XP and Vista laptops hooked up to it. I'm happy with this product so far.

Can't complain about the connection itself although the streaming to my DSM-520 started to have problems with this router. Using an airport express and connecting through wireless n solved the problem but it shows speed of g is much worst than my old d-link router.Really bad part is the shareport USB: with a mac don't even bother trying to make it work. After some investigation I could install the shareport utility but it doesn't work at all: it detects my printer but disconnect after a few seconds. No way to keep it connected with firmware 1.11. I just gave up trying.

Originally was geting 108 mbps upstairs but now find that it fluctuants often down to 52 or 16 mbps.Have to reboot it about 3 times a week because of no reason it looses internet connection. Most time this seems to happen some time durng the night because first thing in the morn is usually when the reboot is required.

I had had problems with compatibility between my desktop computer and a previously purchased Linksys router, but I was eager to try a new product from a different manufacturer line.I had no difficulty hooking it up, and I am currently using 3 out of the 4 inputs, for a PC, game box, and laptop. The installation wizard is easy to follow, though ?I don't know what it is like for Mac users. Also supplied is a Dual Band USB Adapter with its own installation CD, to help things along. However, it can only be used by one computer at a time. And only USB interfaces are compatible. It requires antenna placing in order to maximise the best coverage. However, the antennae took very little adjusting. It is helpful if you can write down your network name/SSID, and the security key and passwords that you have chosen, for faster reference/remembering later. The added security features there make it a good choice if you are looking for a router to eliminate outsiders from trying to abuse your system. The speed and interference-free streaming, e.g. of videos from Netflix (and I'm a heavy user!), is really great. There is no interference or hiccups, and you can simultaneously check your emails while enjoying a movie, or gaming. The ability to support HD-quality streaming of movies is a big plus, too.So far, I'm very satisfied.[...]

Плохо

Let me start off by saying that I replaced my D-Link DIR-655 router with this DIR-825 (firmware 1.01) and combined it with a D-Link DWA-160 USB Adapter (software 2.2). I really wanted to like this router combo, but there are too many issues with the 5GHZ portion to recommend this as of now. The signal strength on the 5GHZ portion is only about 1/2 that of the 2.4. At about 10 feet, I could copy a media file at about 14 Mps on 5GHZ. At about 40 feet with a story in-between, it then drops to about 5Mps. At 80 feet and 2 stories, the 5GHZ signal is no more. You must use the D-Link software to use the 5GHZ channel (which is fine unless you swap to the 2.4GHZ due to range). Then it requires a system re-boot to get back the superfast speed on 5GHZ. Without a reboot, the router performs just like it was at 2.4. Also, I saw no tangible, measurable difference in speed on 2.4GHZ band when using the N DWA-160 than when using the G internal card in my laptop. Wish I had better news to report.I expect that the software and firmware for these two items will improve with time, but at this point I cannot say that it is stable enough to justify the premium price for dual band technology.

First of all, I will admit to being a minor techno geek, but routers have been my downfall. I've used 3 different Linksys routers over the years and have not been happy with their sluggish performance and general crankiness, so I just gave up on the router thing and used an ethernet connection directly into the modem.I had recently begun to reconsider my decision, having been tempted by the speed that a family member reported with his N router, but I didn't want a Linksys. I investigated product reviews and decided to give this D-Link a try.In terms of set-up, it's not for the faint of heart. It offers a lot of options that you may not need, so my recommendation is to just focus of its main purpose for you and then figure out the rest of the stuff later.I just wanted a faster wireless router, and that's what I got.If you keep the installation simple, I'd rate set-up difficulty at about a 7; setup is much more complicated than a Linksys but it appears to have been worth the extra time. This is a fast router. I haven't used it very long, but it seems durable and reliable and I look forward to continued effortless and speedy wireless performance from it.
