Like clockwork this router crashes every day. Have to unplug it and then plug it in again. See posts on the internet and Youtube video on this model. Not buying D-Link again.

I returned this product the day after I installed it. The written instructions are absolutely bizarre. Unless you have network and wireless configuration experience, you'll never get this thing going with just the printed instructions.Once up and running, I saw absolutely no difference whatsoever in my home wireless network. Tried several different scenarios and locations -- nothing. According to the advertising claims on the box, I should have seen substantial network range improvement, etc. I saw nothing. Period.

I purchased this router because I had a previous "G" class D-Link travel router and it worked fairly well. I wanted the range available with "N" class routers. This one did not disappoint. It works great and services several devices at the same time. I've tested it at home, replacing my home router. I have 3 PCs, 2 iPhones, and an iPad. This router handles all of them at the same time and has range nearly as good as most full size home routers.

This router is junk. I bought it because it had 8 ports and saved having to use a switch. The setup was easy/simple, life was great.Two months later it stopped working, I continually disconnect the power cord to allow in to reboot.....pain. There is no firmware or any other upgrade for this router; I reset factory settings, does not help.Today I have reinstalled my Linksys router and the switch.

If you are using Microsoft Exchange for your email this router will not work. It's a shame because this is an 8 port router and it will be used most likely in a small business environment. The router causes anyone who is using Exchange to have numerous slow, freezes, unresponsive sessions in Outlook. Other Amazon users have also noted this problem. I called D-Link tech support and they said there was no issue. They don't recognize this as an issue. Their firmware is on the first edition so you cannot go back to another version. D-link has issues with Exchange with many of there other routers. Google it! I cannot recommend this router or any other D-link router if you want to use Exchange. The router works fine with normal internet usage.

I have good technical skills and was unable to get this router to work on my SOHO network with any reliability. The router was configured exactly as the Linksys router it was replacing so I did not have to touch any of the connected devices. First off, I was unable to map network drives to my Linux machine running samba without bringing the network connection down/up on the Linux machine each time a Windows computer tried to connect. I see other complaints in the reviews about problems with Linux -- they appear to be valid. Connections to MS Exchange from Outlook were flaky at best. I can't say much about wireless connectivity. when the router was working, wireless downloads seemed to knock it out. On the upside, the router is very, very fast when surfing the web. From wired devices, that seemed to be the only thing that worked well. After an hour on the phone with dLink support, I gave up. I would recommend to anyone interested that they wait for a firmware update before purchasing this router (after reading the user reviews).

I agree with the many positives about this router described in other reviews.However, beware, if you are wanting to use this router at home to access your corporate email via Outlook/MS Exchange, you are screwed. There is a firmware bug. Your Outlook will hang, messages won't send, your work session will grind to a halt.As others have noted, this router has no alternative firmware version. (Users of some other DLink routers have been able to back down successfully to an older firmware that does not have the Exchange bug.)The bug does not affect internet access in general, nor Web-based email, nor even Outlook used as a front end to other email servers. It's just Exchange that won't work.UPDATE. DLink Customer Support (often maligned in these reviews) came through. A workaround exists, to reconfigure the router as an access point, disabling DHCP and connecting it via a LAN port to the modem. If any reader wants more details on how to do this, I can add them.

My old D-Link died after about 10 years so I ordered this one for the 8 ports. I really liked the idea of the 8-port router because everything we buy today comes with an Ethernet port. I'm a Comcast customer and so we have Cable, Internet and phone service all bundled in one package. My cable modem is next to the TV in the entertainment system and this is also the location where the D-Link Router is. I was very happy to see that DLink created an 8-port router because now I can connect my PS3, Samsung TV, Denon Receiver, TiVo and SlingBox directly to the router and still have ports available for future devices.Overall, the router was fairly easy to connect although I work in the IT industry so I can't really say how difficult this would be for a non-techie. I thought there would be more drama than there was though so I can honestly say that the setup went faster than I had expected. I have much better coverage throughout the house now, getting at least 4 bars of signal on all my wireless devices from anywhere in our single story home. I am very pleased with this device and would recommend it to anyone.

Currently I am using this router to connect several PCs (wired), a network printer (wired), laptops (wireless - B and G), 2 Roku XDS boxes (dualband N), a Wii (wireless) as well as 2 Philips Internet capable HDTVs with USB dongles (wireless). Usually at least several of these devices are working at the same time, such as streaming video from the Roku while surfing the web, printing, and emailing. I've been using this setup for several months with not even a hiccup from the router. I love the fact there is a guest feature so I can have friends login without granting them full access to my entire network!I will update with more technical information and our overall experience in the future. I wanted to provide a review at this time since we have a broad range of devices connected reliably.

I was excited about the product description, offering a better connection, wider area etc. etc. In all honesty, it doesn't seem any different from our previous router. My husband and I like to play World of Warcraft, so having a good connection and good data speed is important to us. There was no difference between this router and the one that our internet provider gave us. The framerate and latency were within the same ranges as our previous router.Installation was fine, and instructions were clear. We had no issues setting up the wireless -- we did not connect any computers with a hard line, but I cannot imagine there would be any issues with that either.All in all, it's a fine router -- just not spectacular, and not worth a premium price tag.

It's a worst router I ever purchased. The speed is way too slow. Its located in a bedroom and I don't get sufficient signal in another bedroom. Tried upgrading firmware but to no avail.Never buy a refurb router from D-Link, the warranty covers only 30 days!

There are currently two DIR-825 devices on the market. They look slightly different if you look at them very closely. I've tried both in my home, and they are very frustrating to work with. D-link does not test their products before they release them. Instead, the rely on their customers to voice issues, and subsequently, they release firmware upgrades.After a little bit of research, I came across a D-link forum where consumers are complaining with the issue I am having trouble with:[..]If you're laptop/computer's wireless card has a MAC address that begins with something other than '00', like 78:e4:00:53:07:41 for example, this router will keep causing your device to disconnect. Some users complain their device won't even connect. I know for a fact, that when you try to 'reserve' an IP address that has a MAC address that does NOT begin with '00', the router complains that you have entered an 'invalid MAC address'.I may have not described the problem accurately, but to the best of my knowledge, this is just ONE of the PRESENT issue's I am facing. The forum link above, would be the ideal place for you to read more. I've had other issues in the past, that SEEM to have been resolved with firmware upgrades, but that really is not the correct way of keeping your customers happy and providing them with useful, high-quality, and reliable technology. In addition to that, this is one of their most advanced, and most expensive consumer routers.I've had also had very similar experiences with a lower end D-Link router. The routers are buggy and need to continually be updated. It's safe to say, I will not be buying another D-link product for a very long time.

I agree with Josh, this router is a piece of crap! It randomly drops users, the router randomly resets the date and time, so it won't function properly if you are using parental controls and setting times for wireless use. The signal under mixed n, g i is horrible, and my old wrt54 router was faster and more reliable. Support is worse than imaginable, and I will never buy another linksys router again.Level of frustration is so high, my blood pressure stays elevated for day after fooling with it. Never again

On my home network I keep copies of files on a network hard drive. My wife's laptop is wired into our network and I use my 10" Asus laptop in wireless mode. (We also have a desktop and a network printer) I changed the wireless card in my Asus to use 5ghz wireless draft N for quick file transfers. I purchased the 5ghz netgear wireless access point and it was terrible. I purchased the D-link 825 after reading the Amazon articles and I was pleased with the performance of file transfers, Here is the good and not so good: The good is that the router puts out 2.4ghz and 5ghz at the same time. You can name them separately to ID them or use the ID names that D-Link provides. I use the 5ghz for file transfers, very fast. I can send a 1 gig file to my network hard drive wirelessly in 5 minutes, (my Asus shows a 300mbps connection)To show you just how fast, when I do a speakeasy internet speedtest while on a ethernet connection I connect at 21kbps and exactly the same with the 5ghz wireless!! So with this router there is no difference in speed between a wired or wireless connection. (a G wireless won't do 10kbps on this connection). and I use the D-Link's 2.4 ghz wireless on my backyard deck (130mbps) Solid performance for both, very noticeably faster then G wireless. Now the not so good: The wireless range of the 5ghz is terrible, and the range of the 2.4ghz wireless is much better but not the best. Its a shame because the 5ghz is so fast, both in file transfer and internet. Thankfully I was able to position the router to be able to use the 5ghz in our den and the 2.4 on our deck, so I am please with my setup. With further testing, I found that the 2.4ghz wireless works best in N only mode. So I now have 5ghz and 2.4ghz and a old Linksys G wireless for guests. So because of the not so great range of the 5ghz, this router gets 4 stars. Haven't experimented with the gigaports on this unit yet,so basically, if you are looking for a fast connection with not so good distance, this is the router for you. If you are looking for a fast connection with very good wireless range, go elsewhere!June 2009 update:After multiple tests using my refurbished Linksys wrt-160n router against the dual band D-Link 825, I must tell you the D-Link is going to Ebay. Here is why. With a close to router test, although the 5ghz performs well the throughput is only a slightly better than the Linksys, on the 2.4 Ghz band the Linksys blows away the D-Link. Now for the distance test: At approx 40 feet away on the other side of my house, the 5ghz D-Link band is non existent! The wireless router can not reach my laptop! On the 2.4ghz band the DLink does reach my laptop with a good signal at 130mbps, but the Linksys throughput is twice that of the Dlink. I did these tests multiple times. I do want to point out that both routers were set as wireless access points when these tests were performed. The wired ports were not tested. In conclusion, Amazon should allow a person to change their original star rating. I would change the D-Link to 2 stars.

Since this purchase, I never loose my network connection. Laptops, Roku devices, smart phones all stay connected with high strength signals. In a word: Awesome!

This router works like a champ. It was easy to set up using the CD that came with it. We have had no problems with wired or wireless connections. It's a great router for the money.

as of now mid november 2010 the router I got from amazon was hardware A1 which is the old hardware and is not compatible with DD WRT.I called tech support with my disconnection issues with this and they were unable to help me upgrade this to the newer hardware revision B1 so I had to return it to amazon.I got the B1 version from office depot and installed ddwrt on it right away, very easy.having 2 router in the house is kinda annoying so I might disable the 2.4ghz.the 5ghz is definitely faster but much shorter range. it works great for an apartment but I am sure in a big house you need the 2.4ghz.I still could not figure out my homenetwork with this so I have to spend time on it.ddwrt is fairly new for this device and has weekly updates for it but I am sure soon it will be the most stable firmware for this device.shareport is useless to me with dlink firmware limit of one connection at the time and I still did not sort it out with ddwrt. anyway if I want I can go back to dlink formware but for now I am good. I think this is an overpriced router right now but the hardware is great in version B1 and with better firmware it will be worth it...

This refurbished product was delivered promptly and in like new condition. I had read reviews regarding the bright blue LEDs, but I was still surprised when I plugged it in at just how bright they are. My goal was to use the DIR-655 as a wireless N access point and gigabit Ethernet hub. There are instructions on the web for configuring this router as an access point, which worked well for me. I have a wireless G router (Linksys WRT54GL), which is located on the second floor of my house. Therefore, I have the DIR-655 configured for wireless N only. It resides in my basement and I have both a media center PC and Roku HD hooked up to the ethernet ports. My laptop computers with wireless N cards are consistently reporting speeds of 270 mps. I am very happy with the product and the installation.

Installation went easily, since I was familiar with D-Link system. Had some problems with the included USB printer set-up, to print to a printer on the router USB port from any computer on the system. Slow to change connection from one computer to another on the LAN.

I'm on my second unit after the first one had range issues. When I replaced my old G-band router I expected to get better (or at least the same) range with the DIR-655. Unfortunately that was not the case, as my range was effectively cut in half. I made several calls to D-Link and they stepped me through some configuration changes, which did not help. After 3 calls, they told me to return it to Amazon and request a new one. Amazon's exchange policy was quick and painless. With the new router I have the same range as my old G-band model, but the speed is quite a bit better. After setting up the new one, I noticed that it was hardware version A4 as opposed to the first one, which was A2. With all that being said, if you get an A2 model and have issues, you may need to exchange to get a later hardware revision.As far as the router goes, the setup was ridiculously easy and so far the performance and reliability have been fine. Plenty of features in the firmware to tweak. I haven't messed with the USB port yet, but other reviewers have some complaints on that one. Right now I'll call this a decent router for the price.
