I have had this router for about a year. Since I purchased it, it has worked flawlessly.I use the router to connect wireless to streaming movies on my HD TV, wireless printer, two laptop, and Wii. For a unit that is over a year old, I find the price a little to high.Great purchase if you can find it for under $100.

My home office, with computer, VoIP phone, and printer was working fine with my linksys router until I decided to upgrade my wireless network with this new router. As soon as I set this router up, my VoIP phone stopped working. I called my VoIP service provider, and he said these D-Link routers always cause trouble by blocking the phone service. After about an hour, we got the phone working. Then I realized the computer no longer recognized my printer. I called D-Link support, and the lady, who spoke poor English, told me to call my printer manufacturer. I told her I wasn't going to call my printer manufacturer, and if she couldn't get this set up, I would send the router back. She had me go to the D-Link setup in my browser and clicked around for half an hour, and it still didn't work. So now I'm down a printer because the D-Link router is blocking the connection.

DIR-825 / Over an hour with D-Link support. Never mind the lack of understanding of the agent. He told me that 802.11N would not work with windows XP. I said "Wow that's funny because I had been running it for over 2 years with an older D-Link router without any problems. Only way to make it work was to make it 802.11b/g compatible. So I loose the enhanced range and speed. Wow, that's the only reason I got this router was to use the extended range and speed. So I've upgraded to a new router and LOST range and SPEED. D-Link will no longer get my business.

This router gave us the false impression of being great because the signal was so good and we had little problems when we first set it up. Things have gotten progressively worse.First red flag is that this router is not compatible with XBox 360 wireless and they haven't made any effort or indication of fixing this.Second red flag is that this router hasn't had a firmware update in 6 months while at the same time lots of issues discussed on their forums.Third red flag is that someone tested this router and found that their optimizing option does not actually find the best signal, usually picking the worst. Sounds like bad programing. The nail in the coffin is that, in only a few months, the latency is now starting to jump, download speeds dropping, upload speeds almost stop on a regular basis. Reboot of router made things better for a short period of time. Now it's gotten so bad that I'm getting drops about every 5 minutes. When I plug directly into modem, I get great speeds and no drops for extended periods of time. The router will have good speeds then degrade over a few hours. I've already gone through troubleshooting, changing options, without improvement. D-link does not appear to care about the issues with this router. From now on, I'm going to research to see if the router is maintained with frequent updates to the firmware before I buy one.

I ordered the D-Link DIR-825 from TechOnWeb for $139.26 total (with free shipping). It arrived in about 3 days.I am completely new to networking and routers. I used the wizard on the D-Link Disc to set it up and it was pretty easy. I am sharing Cable Broadband with 2 Pentium 4 Desktops using Windows XP and XP Pro (Wired) and a Dell Studio 17 Laptop connected wirelessly. I used the Network Magic software that came with the router (unfortunately it's only a 30 day trial version). So far everything seems to be working correctly. I tried the laptop on a higher floor and got the same signal strength as when it was on the same floor as the router (all the bars are on, an excellent rating).I really dislike the latest trend of only having manuals on the disc as opposed to a printed manual. I don't like the fact that it only has a one year warranty but it does have 24 hour toll free tech support (see more about tech support below). The broadband speed is pretty much the same as before (between 3 to 5MBPS using a RCA Cable Modem with Roadrunner lines from Time Warner Cable). The install wizard makes configuring everything pretty simple even for a novice. Now for the Bad:Every time I called tech support, (about SharePort Technology) there was a high volume of calls, which meant long waiting times. The lower level techs didn't even know what SharePort Technology was and were telling me I needed a print server. One 2nd level tech spent over two hours on the phone with me trying to get this feature to work. After all of that we discovered that a certain utility called a Network USB utility was needed. So again I was switched to someone called a product specialist who was supposed to get me the needed utility. He promised to email me the utility but he never did.All that was accomplished, after hours on the phone, and endless frustration was that now my settings were all screwed up. It now took me hours just to get back to where I was initially.I was finally able to get the utility from their website on October 2nd. Ironically, the D-Link site had instructions for installing the USB Utility on their site but no utility till now. I was finally able to get the USB feature working with a Canon Inkjet USB printer.I was told by the last tech that I spoke to, that the utility was most likely put on the site, on October 1st because of all my complaining about this issue.Be aware that you also have to update the firmware to 1.01 and may need to install the drivers for the printer or other device on each computer on the network.[...]There was no mention of the SharePort Technology in the manual or anywhere on the D-Link site up until the last few days.I would have given the D-Link DIR-825 4 Stars for the hardware if not for the endless ordeals with tech support in getting the USB Port to work. Why advertise a feature all over the web, and then when you get the product, there is no mention of it anywhere and even tech support is useless in this regard!

Well, I should congratulate D-Link. It seems they have a group of talented people who have brainstormed to get list of router features user may want.*Installation*Of course, as many products in this area this one is not totally "plug'n'play", though D-Link has demonstrated great progress toward this direction.Just for review I stopped being geeky and decided to follow supplied D-link wizard to replace my old Linksys router. To my amazement it worked.Well, the wizard refused to start on multihome system (that is when you have many network cards or virtual machine adapter or... hopefully this is not your situation) and then it hang trying to detect newly plugged router, but after reboot it managed to pickup installation process and in the end I got router in working condition along with WiFi network security properly set. All members of the gang of my WiFi devices - T-mobile cell phone (802.11b), Wii (802.11g), two laptops (802.11a,n,g) and IPod connected successfully on their preferred networks... Wire connection for desktop and NAS storage drive was never a problem too.It also was fast finding my ISP. Not bad at all!*Features*This is where this router shines:- two separate WiFi networks: 2.4 GHz 802.11 b-g-n and 5GHz 802.11 a-n- WiFi guest network support (so your friend with laptop cannot see your locally shared My Pictures folder when connecting to your home WiFi)- excellent web interface: clean, powerful and fast; wizards for easy setup of ISP, wired and wireless networks; lot of "manual controls"- ability to (almost) share USB device (including hard drive) between network computers- dynamic IP providers support (like DynDNS)- secure connection (one, I would guess - and it works)- quotes and schedules (so you kid machine goes off internet at 9pm)and many other standard features, like firewall and Upnp, port forwarding, DMZ, etc*Problems and drawbacks*- N-network is disappointment, I can always get strong 54Mbit/s for G, but N signal is weak and I always get mediocre 24-36 Mbit/s; may be this is just interference with my 5GHz phone?- I had dropped connections problems with my old Dell D620 laptop; driver upgrade helped, but not 100%; it looks like when router sees b,n,a and g devices all together some bug manifests itself and WiFi signal may physically disappear from air for several seconds...- Only one network computer can control shared USB device at a time, special utility must be installed for that and this utility UI is not beauty context winner*Conclusion*Way to go D-Link!Yes, new product, some bugs and quirks are inevitable (and I still want, my 150 MBit/s per stream for 802.11n) but general impression is very positive.I hope after another firmware upgrade I can firmly put the fifth star to the product rating.

So my wife destroyed my router with the vacuum but since it was 6-7 years old I didn't really mind. Gave me an excuse to upgrade. So first off my CD/DVD drive did not recognize the CD at all. I went through the manual setup and eventually called tech support. The guy was nice enough and within 15-20 minutes he had me up and running. Both my computers were able to connect to the internet. However within a few minutes my connection went down. I called my ISP and they told me to run the ethernet directly into the modem and Voila, I had connection on my hardwired computer but my Mac desktop now has no connection with a router. The lady at ATT went into some tech babble about bridging, etc of which I''m completely illiterate but then again so was she (or at least she didn't feel like taking the time to help me) and passed me off to some self help site. So I call back DLINK and this new guy had a attitude. I told him a had called earlier and had a reference number. When I started with A, he goes "yeah, yeah ALR400, what's after that?" What's after that? How about a little courtesy since your product blows that I just wasted $150 on? You couldn't wait for me to get the next 5 digits out? Would've ruined your night, huh? Tech guy didn't do jack squat for me and was in a hurry to get me off the phone. Called back my ISP (ATT) and after being on hold for over an hour I finally gave up. That was a really fun evening. But if you still want to buy one, I'll be glad to sell you mine. It's been used for all of 10 minutes.

The router works really well plugged into our 2wire modem/router. If you're replacing a modem/router with this, make sure to get a modem as this does not have one. I have not yet worked out the best configuration for the antennae yet but other than that have had no problems with it so far.

This wireless router works just fine.Setup was no worse than others I've used, although the web pages are a bit daunting compared to those of routers of old. Of course routers of old had significantly less capability. As expected, the 5MHz signal strength is not as good 2.4.My data rates in the same room are a fairly reliable 300Mb so long as I have the security parameters set appropriately. That took a bit of digging to determine what configuration would maximize throughput. The USB shareport works great. It powers a hitachi drive used for backups.I think the blue LEDs are a bit bright. This router and the hitachi USB drive were bought together with low power consumption as an important criteria. The specs on both looked quite good.

Oh my goodness, this is the worst router ever. The setup CD wouldn't connect to the router. When I attempted to use the Web interface, all it would let me do was update the firmware. So I updated the firmware. That changed the IP address of the Web interface. After fussing, I finally figured that out. It took forever to get basic settings configured in the massive interface. FINALLY, it was receiving an IP address from my ISP and handing out internal DHCP addresses to wired and wireless WPA2-secured clients. The Internet speeds were SO SLOW that anything other than simple requests timed out. I finally took the thing off my network and put my old Linksys Wireless G one back on.

I am reasonably technical; not a guru but capable of making most devices that can work, work. The D-Link 825 is horrible! I am not angry that D-Link has designed a lemon. It happens to all manufactuers. I am mad because they left it on the market and did not provide a solution to those of us who have been plagued with problem after problem. I am really being polite. I have struggled with poor connectivity, speeds that start fast, get slower than finally disconnect in less than a minute. A lot of connectivity issues. Wireless N on the 5GHz channel 20' away passing through one sheetrock wall loses connectivity. My netbook with Intel 5300 AGN occassionally locks up. The only time this has ever happened is when I am connected to this router. I could go on but writing about this POS gets me more angry. 10+ calls to support would indicate that their tech support reps do this because they are incapable of doing anything else in life. Okay, maybe that was a little harsh but not too far off the mark.It appears D-Link did come up with a new Rev. B build. Not sure if that improved anything but it was never offered as a potential solution. If it worked as advertised, I would be a happy camper. Shareport almost works. I am taking a step back and getting a Linksys WRT56GL. I had one before and after providing many years of trouble free service, finally failed.

This device works as described. The extended range and dual bands were what we needed to connect all the devices in our home as well as our Blue-ray/Netflix players. It wasn't the easiest router that I have set up but technical assistance was excellent and walked me through my sticking point. The router does occasionally disconnect from devices as other have noted in reviews but the range is excellent and that makes up for an occasional reset. I have found that pulling the power on the router and letting it reset works more often than restarting the disconnected device. I would purchase this router again. Amazon service and delivery were excellent as usual.

One of the selling points for me on this device was the shareport which promised to allow the router's USB port to be accessible by the computers on the network. Which it does. I can connect a USB drive to the device and the computer, eventually, sees it as if it were physically plugged in. The problem is that it's basically useless unless you use it for printing. It's way too slow to be used as a file server. I was getting transfer speeds between 500 kbps and 1 mbps which is just a little over a medium speed broadband connection. When I moved the drive to a physically network attached computer I transferred the same file at 7 Megabytes per second. The old linksys wrt350n would share files at 2 Megabytes per second. So if you're going to attach storage to this router you'll have to spend extra to get a network attached drive, don't even think about using the USB port. That said, the USB port is cool if you have a usb modem with your cell phone provider, you can plug it in and share your wireless 3g/evdo. And it's nice, if clunky, to share a printer (but next time splurge and get a wifi printer, they're cheap enough these days).USB aside I'm very pleased with the networking capabilities. No dropped connection on long file transfers or backups. My wireless N computers talk on the 5g band and leave the 2g band for the wireless Gs so I'm getting solid 300mbps ratings on my N connections. I was even able to set up a guest internet access for friends without granting them full access to my entire home network. It's a good buy, but don't buy it if you're really serious about wanting to hook up a usb drive and share files off it. Unless you have a seriously slow internet connection you'd be better off using the cloud storage solutions as they're free and (unfortunately) nearly as fast. I can't say for certain but everything about this port screams USB 1.0.

The setup of this router was very quick and easy. The options available for configuration are impressive. Without making any changes, our Xbox live connection worked great. When using other routers opening many ports is required for good operation. The great thing about this router is the ability to simultaneously create 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. Another bonus is the ability to create a guest network on each.
