This is the second of this model I have tried. As a router goes it works fine but the wireless piece of it is unreliable. I have gone through the troubleshooting and returned one. The second is no better. I needed the more than 4 hardwired ports but really dont like to daisy chain. Now I have this 8 port with wireless turned off tied into my 4 port wireless router. Works just not how I wanted to do it.

Would have given it 5 stars were it not for the awful documentation. Took me about 1 hr to figure it out but had all three modes running smoothly. I'll be using it extensively for the next two months and will update this. For now it looks like a good investment.

Bought this router to improve connectivity in my home, where I have every type of wired and wireless entertainment options you can imagine available. The downfall of this device for me is it's inherent inability to function correctly with either of my AppleTV's. Nothing more frustrating that spending hours trying to forward ports and follow instructions from various forums to workaround a problem that doesnt exist with any other router I have tried. So tonight was finally my last goodbye to D-Link and the DIR-825, hope other people have better luck!

I purchased this product at the end of September. Delivery was fast and I was eager to see what were all these bad reviews about. This router is a replacement of an old Netgear 4-port Ethernet switch and router. All I can say is that following the instructions for web setup everything worked as expected and the device works now up to its specifications. I have a long experience with wireless devices and this one I can say is excellent. Since I use it mostly as an AP and did not work with it long time as an Internet router, I cannot say if all features work as expected. The advanced features like port forwarding, filters, etc. are to be tested and reported by someone, who uses this device as a front. The fact for me is that as an AP and Ethernet switch it is faster and better than my old device and I am very happy with this product.

This is the second one of these we've ordered. The first one failed only because a box was set in front of it, which blocked the vent (which is in the front of the unit) causing it to overheat. We tried another low-cost model and remembered we liked this one so much, we bought another. Not disappointed. Instant improvement in wireless connectivity.

I've owned nearly a half dozen of these little D-Link routers because they are so useful for taking to hotels--since many hotels (especially in Europe) are charging per device it's nice to have a router to make all my gadgets appear as one so I only have to pay for Internet access once. Plus I get encrypted wifi and don't have to share the wireless bandwidth with all the other hotel guests. But every one I've owned has failed after about 6 months. Eventually I just can't get a wifi connection. Wired connections work fine, and the lights work. I can reset the device to default, but once it fails I can't keep a solid connection. Strangely with one of my devices switching to Access Point mode helped, but even that eventually quit.So I am resigned to having to carry larger routers or just deal with hotel wifi.To bad, I have always been rooting for these devices and giving up on them is a very sad deal to me, but after going 0-5 on the devices I have to admit there's something seriously wrong with them.

I bought this router to exchange an existing Linksys because I need more than 4 ports. Installation was easy, but loss of connection signal Wireless and Ethernet cable was so frequent (every 3 - 4 min.)I could not use the product. I missed the return policy time and to return it at shipping cost is to expensive,D-Link DIR-632 Wireless-N 8-Port Router so I just tossed it.

I will add some things to my review others have not stated. The ease of use of this router compared to my old linksys is really nice. I play a lot of video games and the port forwarding on this router is super easy. It has a large list of common applications that you can pick from where it knows what ports need to be opened. Then it gives you another list of devices on your network, so you don't have to find the specific ip-adress of the device in order to select it. Very handy and much faster. Opening the ports properly made my NAT open for xbox live and other games so I don't have issues anymore connecting with friends or servers. It has been said that this only supports 10/100 M/bit ethernet which is true but irrelevent to the vast majority of people's networks. I have high speed comcast, and my download speeds are 2 megabytes a seconds. 2 megabytes equals ~17 megabits, not even close to saturating the 100 M/bit bandwidth. This router only supports 2.4GHz and not 5Ghz, which still doesn't matter to most home users, but I would like access to 5Ghz myself. 5GHz has less interference (seems like everything runs on 2.4GHZ) and has the ability to increase speed on some of the newer wireless-N band routers. Some people have mentioned brief connection interrupts that halt the download of large files, or disconnect you from servers, when you are using wireless. I have downloaded many huge files and play video games for several hours at a time and have never experienced this issue. I watch a ton of netflix movies over wireless on my sony bravia ex308 HDTV (has its own wireless adapter, very nice) and my xbox 360 and it never has to restart. My router does say it has the A1 revision (A0 is usually first), with 1.01NA firmware, so either of those could be why.

i do not usually write bad reviews on things but this item deserves it. This thing didn't work correctly from the start. the Disk that comes with it to help set it up Didn't work. i had to do it manually. which wasn't a problem for Me being an IT guy. so i got it working. about 30 mins later i noticed My aim kept getting booted offline every time i tried to send something. ok fine i switched to pidgin and it stopped. i assumed it was aim that was the problem. i was wrong. a day later about every 10 mins the internet would Drop out in the middle of loading a webpage. This started to become More and More frequent. i called Tech support they said send it back. i have been searching the net about this router. every review list i find from amazon, neweeg, walmart tigerdirect, office max, and a few others. all had the same complaints about 75% of the people that gave reviews were complaining about the same issues i am. This router is cheaply made and a total waste of Money. i wanted to Like it but in the end switching back to My 6 year old Linksys router proved to be the better choice in this situation. this router is junk DO NOT BUY!!!.

This D-Link DIR-632 is a good match for my purposes. When my old 802.11b D-Link didn't work well with a new iPod Touch I was given for Christmas, I looked around for a new router. None of them had enough Ethernet ports for my needs and most didn't offer a USB printer port. Most of the highly rated WiFi routers were dual-band which I didn't need because I have no devices that can use the second 5 GHz band. Dual-band adds a lot to the cost of a WiFi router. Then I discovered the DIR-632 which I've had for a month now and I couldn't be happier. It was easy to install and has been working flawlessly with my 3 WiFi devices, my 6 Ethernet devices, and my USB printer all running at the same time. Of course, it also greatly increased my network speed compared to my old D-Link.I only have two minor complaints. The setup wizard only installs a medium security level. You have to manually enable the highest level security options. However, these features are well documented and didn't take long to set up. The USB printer option uses a until called SharePort which has to be installed on every PC and is yet another background process chewing up CPU cycles. It doesn't work with every printer but it runs fine with my Canon inkjet printer. If you don't need a dual-band WiFi router, I recommend this one especially if you want more than 3 or 4 Ethernet ports or you want a router with a USB printer/storage port. It works well with my Windows 7 and Windows XP PCs, Apple iPod Touch 4G, and other WiFi 802.11g, 802.11n, and Ethernet devices.

I usually have luck with refurb products but this was not one of those. If you notice the ratings it is either 5 or 1. That is because half the units shipped will not even power up. So what was refurbished? How do they know they fixed the issuer if they don;t even attempt a power up to see if it turns on?The price is great and specs are wonderful... but 50/50 chance of it even getting past the "insert power cord" step of installation.

Since we're an apple household, i had to use the single page of written instructions rather than the bright shiny disc that came in the box. I think it was on the order of five whole steps between opening the box and having my computer online again. The only snafu for me was that i had to re-start my cable modem a few times, but modems from my cable company are notoriously fickle. You have to restart the modem any time you change what it's plugged into, and sometimes again just for kicks. While getting connected to the internet was a breeze, setting things like password and such were complicated by the fact that apparently all router manufacturers run on such a shoe-string budget that they can never, ever be troubled to make their software user interface even the slightest bit user-friendly. It's all late-90s blocky layouts and eye-watering color schemes. I spent a few minutes trying to track down how to restrict which mac addresses can connect to the router (a good bonus layer of security on top of the password), but couldn't find it. (I've never used a router with a good software UI, so this one is no worse than the others. A few hours of design and code overhaul could make it worlds better, though, and i don't understand why they don't bother.)This router provides great wireless signal strength throughout the house, even in the far corner of the second floor despite the router being in the basement.(And for the ongoing debate about this router and macs, i have no compatibility issues whatsoever with computers running 10.5.x and 10.4.x, nor my iPhone running 4.2.x. Setup was done with the 10.5.x computer.)

Bought this D-Link router thinking it was one of their top of the line dual-band routers. Its 2.4hz signal was horrible. Wouldn't even pick up wifi signal in the next room. The usb shareport after calling and spending 2 hrs on the phone with tech support wouldn't work either. Returning it to Amazon, what a inconvenience and waste of my time. Stay away from it, that's probably why its a little cheaper than some of the others in its field.

This Device worked fine for us so not sure what the previous reviewer is having issues with. The "instructions" are about like all DLINK products really, just like the web gui is for that matter, just ajdust your nic and login and configure.FIVE minutes to do this at home then, Deployed perfectly to the Irving Dental Office (as Access Point)..Connect to 192.168.0.50 and configure the Device..I beleive WPS has to be supported on your current WLAN/LAN in case that was the guys issue.Range was noticably improved - I went into a large storage closet area to the back wall with the door closed, then outside the office accross into the next business property 25' with the door closed, farthest end from the SmartBeam Radio, and 5 bars in Windows7 the entire time..Looks good to me,jcSO it is a WAP or a Bridge, AND a 4 PORT GIGABIT SWITCH, AND A USB 2.0 PORT, for storage and other devices as well..

The signal is twice as strong throughout my 2500 sq ft house as my prior wireless g router and i am using the 2.4gh band. The gui is a little confusing unless you are an it professional (I am) but most of the required features are there. If you are doing a simple setup and using wps its a snap.I recommend this for someone looking to add n to an existing g network.

I ordered this router from Amazon because two WRT160N's from Linksys both locked up within 10-12 hours of use, in spite of directed cooling fans. This is a very preliminary review that attempts to help solve some problems that might face anyone converting from the popular Linksys routers to this fine piece of equipment from D-Link.First of all, I never use install software for routers. I configure them manually via the web page. This is where I encountered my first problem (although the included software install utility fell victim to the same issue).I had my existing machines configured with static IPs. I could not connect to the router from any of them. It turns out the D-Links expect an IP address to be in the range 192.168.0.xxx and not 192.168.1.xxx, during configuration. Until I discovered this little "anomaly", I could not connect to the router's web page. The simple cure to start was to take the computer I was attempting to do the configuration of the router with and let it get its IP address from the router. Immediately I could connect and begin configuring the router. Setup was very easy (Manual). I understand enough networking stuff to configure a router in just a few minutes, and the internal web page layout is intuitive and well described, including excellent help screens, if needed. For all my machines configured with Static IPs, I had to edit each one from 192.168.1.xxx to 192.168.0.xxx, or none of them would connect. Of course, I could have just let the router assign IPs, but I prefer my own network topology. If you have other networked devices like Network Drives, etc., be sure to set them to DHCP before changing routers, or you won't be able to access them easily. I had them set for static IPs, and had to spend two hours finding out how to get access to them, because again, they were in the 192.168.1.xxx range. (I had to discover how to reset them to DHCP with special utilities and/or special button presses on a MyBook World 1 TB and Buffalo Pro Duo 1 TB)Once configured for the service provider's static IP, etc., assignments to me, I was on the net.Throughput was an issue. I was only seeing about 15 to 20 percent of maximum throughput on G (2.4 gig), and had not tested N (5 gig) yet. Some poking around and I found that QOS was turned on to "Shape" WAN traffic by default. This provides priority to gaming activities (which I have no interest in). By default "Shaping" is on. Doing internet speed testing, I was getting 70 KB/sec downloads and only 9 to 12 KB/sec uploads. I disabled "Shaping" and instantly the speeds were up to snuff. So, a word to the wise...you may want to turn off "Shaping" to start with. The setting is in the Advanced > QOS section in the Web Page setup. The router's default http address is different from the Linksys. The D-Link uses 192.168.0.1, while the Linksys uses the more familiar 192.168.1.1. Don't forget if you have static IPs on your machine to change them to match the "0" ...leaving them at "1" would not work for me.Overall setup is a dream. G range is very good. N range and performance have not been evaluated yet. I was especially fond of how easy and intuitive it was to set up port forwarding, and band/performance parameters. Everything made sense, and nothing left me "guessing". I'm using a Netgear USB G adapter and a WGA600N dual band adapter (when I get to the N section). No compatibility problems so far.)They warn not to configure the router using a wireless connection. Once configured and rebooted, I have found I can go into the router web page any time I like and make edits using a wireless machine. If N lives up to G, I'll be a very happy camper. I'll submit another review after I do my N evaluation. I'm waiting for a firmware update of another device to be able to test HD Television streaming from an HD Satellite DVR to another sat box. This is a very demanding environment and should be a good test.Initial Throughput Assessment:G (2.4 gig) = 2.5 megabytes per secondN (5 gig) = 10.0 megabytes per secondHigh Definition TV Streaming: N band performance is EXCELLENT at about 30' away, through one wall/window. No halting or other video/audio anomalies. Signal levels near 100% on both N and G.Throughput measurements done with Linksys WUSB600N Dual Band Wireless N USB Adapter

Wish I could write a better review for this product as I love the concept, and I've actually bought a number of variants on this design.But...Every one I've ever bought has quit working after a few months. It seems to work, all the lights blink appropriately, but nothing I try to connect to it will get an IP address. I finally resorted to buying the Airport Express from Apple, which has worked extremely well, but isn't as small as this device is, and I was very excited about having a USB device connected remotely!Ah well... Your mileage may vary, but I'm never taking (another) chance on this again.

What can one say about a piece of computer equipment? Unless one is a geek, not much. We want it cheap, to be reliable and to be easy to use. What can we say about the D-Link DIR-632 router? It is inexpensive (manufacturers hate the word cheap), it is reliable and mostly easy to use. We'll get to that mostly part in a moment. For an 8-port router, the price of the D-Link is very reasonable. That is a lot of ports for the price. Throw in N wireless and it is a bargain.Reliable? Prior to upgrading, my smart phone kept losing sync with my older G wireless router. My smart phone supports the new N wireless settings so in addition to being more reliable it is also faster. Since installing the D-Link DIR-632, my smart phone has not dropped the wireless connection at all.Easy to use. Yes, we are to the "mostly" moment. Using OS X means that manufacturers don't always think about us. D-Link though has special instructions for Mac and Linux people. Granted, the automated setup available to Windows users on the included CD does not work for us, but the printed quick start guide does a pretty good job of getting the setup started under OS X.The biggest complication experienced is because we also have Uverse at the house and well, it has wireless G and insists on always being on. For people who have DSL or cable providers, the D-Link will be much easier to setup.D-Link provides a full set of options when setting up the router. From the router setup page one can do automated or manual configuraiton. The manual configuration pages are pretty easy to figure out.All in all, I am very happy with the D-Link DIR-632 and would recommend it to friends.Rebecca KyleDecember 2010
