I recently took the camera to the 2013 Masters golf tourney (practice day of course). The pictures were excellent, the shutter speed was good enough to capture some good shots, and the telephoto lens worked well from a good distance. It was intuitive since I had a previous version, but some of the picture review controls were clumsy.

I love this camera. Pictures are sharp and clear. Zoom is awesome. Not too heavy. The only fault I found was when holding the camera to take a picture my thumb keeps hitting the timer.

I have graduated from models SX10 IS, SX30 IS and SX40 HS. I give the SX40 HS high marks. I bought the SX50 HS in hopes of being able to use the 50X zoom with some competence. I have a decent tripod and the Canon remote. But when shooting on a cloudy day (low light), a very high percentage of shots are trash. No focus. I realize that I am an amateur, but have fun taking shots of nearby eagles. I have not yet tried continuous auto focus or manual focus. And there is still no Shortcourse (Dennis P. Curtin) to guide me in the right direction.I am willing to wait a little longer, in hopes of getting what I want out of this camera. I do not want to wait too long and am unsure as to the return policy. Amazon, can you help?

Great camera but only 3 stars as I needed to take action shots of my son playing basketball. The lens can't handle it. Going with the FZ200 which has a much faster lens. Alternative is the heavyweight DSLR cameras but I still want the mega zoom.

I was considering purchase of a 500 mm Sigma lens for a used Nikon DSLR when I discovered this gem. Just the lens was going to cost $1000 + an the camera body was another $300 used. I wanted/needed a long lens for my new found fun activity - bird watching. I had a Canon G10 and it did an admirable job but I wanted some more telephoto capability. For under $400 I was able to get a camera body and 1200 mm lens that gets fantastic results in the AUTO mode. And, it has all the other modes I was used to on my G10.

it's a great cammera, 50x zoom is useful, a memory card from 16 GB or more is recommended because of pictures size

This camera is amazing. It works great for snapping "fast" moving sports pictures of my 5-year olds soccer team or nice family shots. I can always guarantee to get a good photo of my always on the move 3 year old. The zoom is insane. You tube this bad boy!

I made a serious mistake and bought a Nikon a couple years ago. I had always had Canons before that. I had to go back to Canon and this camera is incredible. In spite of its multitude of capabilities, it is still fairly easy to use and get the results you want. I just love it.

I have owned SX30 and SX40 cameras in the past. SX40 was a HUGE improvement over SX30. However, I am not sure that I see too much difference between SX40 and SX50. It is an AWESOME camera, dont get me wrong. However, if you are just an amateur photographer (like me) and you already own SX40, I would probably recommend keeping your SX40. New version allows you to shoot HD movies and has some minor differences in technical specs. However, I am just not sure if the prices difference between SX40 and SX50 justifies the difference in quality of the images. I think you should at least wait for the price to go down a bit before upgrading.If you DONT currently own SX40 and you are in a market for a new high-end point and shoot camera, then this is the camera for you. I keep all settings on Auto and I absolutely love the quality of the pictures.Its a really great camera for the money!

I have purchase several Canon cameras so far, the last one being the stellar Canon S3IS, which has been a great all around camera. It has outperformed many of the cameras which my associates carry, especially in the stereo audio catagory which was a pleasant surprise. After having the Powershot SX50 HS, it is obvious that Canon has produced yet another great camera!

If you own a Canon SX40, you will really enjoy the SX50. Longer zoom and quicker auto focus. It takes great pictures, but you need to learn the camera to get the best results. It tends to clip the highlights, but after you learn the camera you will eliminate the clipped highlights 95 percent of the time. If you are a birder this is the camera. The Panasonic FZ200 is a great camera also, but for birding its not even a contest. If your shooting birds in the wild you will love the extra reach with the 1200mm lens. If you really learn this camera and know its limitations you will get some amazing shots.

I have two Canon DSRL cameras and I have used the preceeding four versions of this one and I take it everywhere I go. I like the features and the versitility. Some of shots at the extreme end of the telephoto were not as clear as I had hoped as with some of my indoor shots in low light. The camera has been very good overall.

I was amazed by the telephoto zoom. The camera is light and simple to use. The pop out screen is a good addition and the manual lifting of the flash prevents the camera from automatically pop it up. Highly recommend this camera for beginners.

Researched our options a lot before deciding on this camera. Decided that we weren't ever going to become anything more than novice photographers and that a point-and-shoot would serve our needs best. This camera exceeded our expectations. The rapid fire function is impressive and the zoom is unbelievable. Well worth the month.

A very good prosumer camera. A good buy for a beginner to middle range photographer, but not for the advanced photographer. Excellent zoom lens for bird shots and good jpg (better than RAW development in this case!). Faster than the SX40, lighter and overall improved. You will need a monopod or tripod to shoot with this as that is what I carry. Battery life is excellent as I took 1,000 shots over four hours (however, I turned off the camera when not shooting). In fairness to the SX50, most of the shots I took would have been impossible with its superior zoom reach. Probably the best bridge camera on the market.However, the camera should be considered legally blind as it can't focus in dim light, shadows or on dark subjects. Really searches. No in camera stitch editing (why bother having it). A great disappointment is that for the high end price, Canon doesn't include video and computer cables--talk about cheap!!

The electronic viewfinder was a total disaster. I have gotten accustomed to using the viewfinder for composing and making the images and the one on this model cannot be used to do so. It is difficult to use and if speed is essential (wildlife/bird photography) it is too slow to obtain the image.I have already sold the camera!

Love, love, love this camera! I also ordered Bryan Peterson's book - Understanding Exposure - great book!!! The stabilization on this camera is fantastic!! Able to take extreme handheld close ups.
