Considering the quality of the A590, I would have expected much more
in the both the ease of installation and, user friendliness of the software.
Every time I connect the camera to download images, I must manually
select the Canon camera window utility from a pull down menu that appears to view or download my images. It's so much easier with my other 4 cameras to simply drag and drop the files wherever I want to put them in explorer.
I would still recommend the camera.....just not the software that comes with it. Also, unlike other cameras that act much the same as a flash drive does when connected to various PC's, with this Canon, if you ever have the desire to connect the unit to a PC other then your own, you will first have to bring the software with you and install it on that PC.

What I also really liked about this camera was the software that came with it. I especially liked the stitching program which allows you to join multiple images together to become one image (which saves on uploading to website costs as the one image is a lot less pixel size than the independent photos are). Also handy for facebook albums and the like where your limited to the number of images in an online album. You can either create a wide landscape image of the one thing or stictch totally different images together for example people at a party. Images don't even have to be the same size if you've cropped some and you can use any images on your computer not just ones taken on this camera. This program's easy to use and after a bit of trial and error you'll be getting the results you want.
The only thing I'd advise Canon to fix on the next model is the memory card/battery door. This is a bit fragile and if you had to change either card of batteries real quick as your subject is moving away you may miss the shot. But if you get a bigger memory card (camera comes with a small 16MB ,about 15 shots card) and use rechargeable AA batteries, replacing them before you head out you should overcome this problem. This door is certainly not a major problem but still annoying enough that Canon should change this design in future models.
By the way you can also get this camera with a dark blue face instead of the grey.

There are only 2 things I am not pleased with.
1. The little plastic cover for uploading doesn't easily open and I can't seem to get it to open all the way. I have to kind of work the connection under and into the slot. I feel eventually it will break. This could use a redesign.
2. The hand strap provided is pretty big and I am a big guy. I find it difficult putting my hand in and then wrapping my hand around to hold the camera. A little cinching clamp would be nice because I could then just let it hang from my wrist. Absolutely cannot do this now.
Other than that, great product and a great price. Best Buy was $40 more.

SX110IS for my daughter for Christmas. The price listed was 149.99. I ordered believeing that the camera was in stock. About a day later I received notice that the camera would be delivered in March. This was way too long to wait so I proceeded to cancel the order. Lo and Behold, the camera was now in stock at a price of 199.00!!! I went ahead and ordered the second camera and cnaceled the first one, but I feel that I was caught. I believe that Amazon knew that all the customers who wanted the camera for Christmas would pay the extra 50.00 just to get it. The camera is just what she wanted, but I wonder how the company could go from having the camera at 149.99 (delivery in late Feb. or early March) and then in the space of several days suddenly have the camera at 199.99---immediate delivery. Interesting, don't you think?

I WILL DEFINATELY BE DOING BUSINESS IN THE FUTURE.

I've been able to get excellent indoor and outdoor photos, and even experimented on some night time photos (have to play with the manual settings to get some decent night photos), and even took a picture of the full moon at 40x zoom -- it looks like your looking through a telescope! The only problem I've had with blurred photos was when taking photos at high zoom in poor light. Other than that, the photos have been perfect.
At the time of me writing this, the SX100 has become difficult to find, but Canon just announced the SX110, which should be a worthy upgrade if you cannot find the SX100.

What I wanted was a digital camera that was VERY easy to use and would take GREAT pictures of my very active Grandchildren. The Canon Powershot exceeded my expectations.
The Canon Powershot can go from the box to taking great pictures in just minutes. No special camera batteries needed, which who keeps them on hand, it takes double A. I can and have recommended the Canon Powershot to my family and friends.

Pros:
- lots of features
- small enough to fit in your pocket
- decent zoom
- decent video
Cons:
- bad low-light performance
- too slow for action shots (sports, etc.)
- e18 / lens error
- frequently gives image stabilization warnings, especially in low light
I'm currently in the market for a new camera - my lens just decided to jam itself open for no apparent reason. Reading reviews for Canon Powershot cameras apparently this is endemic to the entire product line. Called Canon and their flat rate service fee is $139 for a camera I could buy refurbished on ebay for $200 so not exactly a bargain. They did offer a "loyalty" program which looks like they give you about a 50% discount off a refurbished SD850, G9 or Rebel XT if you trade in your old S80.
Now I'm trying to decide if I should go for the refurbished SD850 and risk another lens error, or switch to Nikon.
Just wanted to post this review to warn people yet again about problems with the lens in Canon Powershot cameras.
