I really enjoy having the large LCD view screen, as that makes setting up and reviewing my shots that much easier before I upload them to our website. It's compact and uses two standard AA batteries which last a long time. This is a great camera for simple point and shoot photography. I highly recommend it.

The limitations: Longer than normal cycle time when taking flash photos or outdoor bright photos. Macro leaves much to be desired. Other Canon point and shoot cameras have amazing macro ability. This camera does not. Zoom function while nice has a tendency to introduce blur with or without the IS on.
Overall, I love this camera. For the price and it's multitude of functions and the easy mode which is perfect for those who just want to turn on a camera and take great pics, this is a perfect camera.
Note: I have taken over 4,000 pictures with this camera. And take it with me everywhere.

After a week of taking pictures of about anything I can think of, I love it. Takes good pictures, lots of user friendly features and adjustments for when I took to take some more difficult shots.
Only problem I have is the terrible battery life. The ones packaged in only lasted 2-4 hours tops. I replaced them with some new batteries. Same life-span.
Look into getting a supply of re-chargable batteries on hand if you looking to be going somewhere you plan to use your camera alot.

Two of my daughters have expensive digital SLR cameras in the $1,500.00 range which are around two years old. The SX110IS takes better photos! This shows how fast technology is moving.
My wife is an artist and enters contests via a photo of her paintings. Taking an excellent photograph of an original oil painting is almost impossible. My wife has even hired professional photographers. The SX110IS absolutely takes the best photos of oil paintings that I have ever seen. The photos aren't just a little bit better, but a whole lot better!

Besides falling in love with the look and style of the E1 (it's the most beautiful shade of robin's egg blue I've ever seen), the pictures I've taken are incredible both in detail and clarity. And I'm equally impressed how close you can get to your subject with the zoom. I was going to get one of those Flip camcorders but the Movie Mode on this is perfect for capturing quick clips.
The functions are all quite simple to use, you really don't even have to read the manual. It also has an "Easy" mode, excellent for anyone who might be intimidated by cameras. I feel this would be a perfect camera for both ends of the spectrum, from the novice to the more experienced. I'm in love with it! Canon makes wonderful products.

It's very neatly put together and has great functions. The manual is easily downloaded and very clearly written.
The picture quality is excellent, as good as my Sony Alpha DSLR.
MY only criticism is that the buttons are a bit small and fiddly for big chubby fingers, but it's obvious they will be on a small camera.
Purchase this camera if you want great pictures, an easy to carry camera and plenty of features.
I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

It's not a camera for taking self snap shots with friends. I mean you could, but it's a little too bulky for that and I'd be afraid I'd drop it. Definitely a "sir, will you take a picture of us?" camera. Just make sure you put it on Auto before you hand it to a camera noob.
Macro is probably the best feature on this camera. It's about all I use. Takes clear, beautiful shots and allows you to get a close shot without having to be up close. Though for me macro is never close enough. If you're anything like me I would recommend something that either has better macro or can use lens/filter adaption/conversions.
The zoom is great until you get into long distances and then you get some black fuzziness around the edges (mostly just in the corners). Also anything not in the exact center of the image is slightly fuzzy.
Battery life is pitiful. Regular AA batteries just don't cut it. I went through 4 pairs of batteries in about as many days, so I just went ahead and bought a nice little 30$ charger with lithium ion batteries at Walmart. It's better than having to buy batteries every week.
I don't use flash at all so I'm not much help there. High (1600) ISO setting makes your pictures come out very grainy/noisy.
Overall this camera is great for nature and macro photography, as well as outdoor portraits. Indoors is great so long as you have decent lighting.

The battery life is excellent on this camera. I've already taken 150+ photos with the children and the batteries have not yet run out.
What most impresses me with this camera is one of the few point and shoot digital cameras that can accept a wide angle or telephoto lens. I plan to order the wide angle lens and put it into my daughters stocking. (Just search Amazon for a590is lens and several options will show up.) You can also add filters or an underwater kit. I love that it's so versatile.
It's also very, very well made, but heavier than most point and shoot cameras.

Pros:
-Clear pictures
-Reasonable video
-Easy to operate in simple and advanced modes
-Decent price
Cons:
-Sometimes a little hard to get the camera to focus on what you want it to.
-some features feel a little less sturdy that some of the previous A series cameras.

I wanted to experiment with Cams and this is what I thought I'd start with.
It gives 10X Optical Zoom. Believe me ... its good
It has a plethora of options for a newbie to explore.
This is a good Pre-SLR Cam.
And all this for 230 Odd bucks ... Its a steal.

It is packed with features, and the software is great!
It shoots great video too...
Only one problem--the lens cap doesn't stick on. I will need to get a replacement.

Downloading pictures is a bit more cumbersome than with my old Kodak camera, however.
