I bought this camera because Consumer Reports ranked it a "best buy." It has worked as described by CR and I seem to have gotten what I expected. For a little over $100, this was an amazing deal. It's got crazy zoom power - goes up to around 10x zoom (granted the quality suffers at that power). It has several modes, like "nature scenes" and "portrait" and "night scene" that I tend to use. I also like that it works on AA batteries, because when they die, I can just instantly replace the batteries. It just requires me to carry batteries around with me. But at least I won't miss out on those bachelorette shots due to battery death. I don't know what I'm missing out on by not buying a $250 camera, but this one has all that I need.

So far, I really like this one. I bought it to carry with me on business trips with the SLR was staying home. I am really impressed with the crisp shots I can take and the zoom is really good. The image stabilization works very well. The flash is decent for a compact camera.

This digital camera is inexpensive compared to other cameras and easy to use. I took a couple of shots with it and I noticed that you can't get too close to an object that you are shooting or it will not focus right. You must stand at a nice distance and use the zoom frequently. It takes some getting used to but once you get used to it, you can take some pretty good pictures. Another thing I noticed is that once you take a picture it comes out looking a bit fuzzy on the camera's display screen but once downloaded to the computer it's very clear and detailed. The camera is also small and lightweight so if you're looking for something that feels a bit heavier this camera is probably not for you. Other than that it's perfect for taking casual, fun pictures.

I have always taken lousy pictures , I now know why I used lousy cameras!
After deciding to upgrade to a new ultra zoom I researched and found the canon sx10 to be higly rated. After buying I seee why my pictures are fantastic crisp clear, just what I was hoping for, would definitely recommend if you are tired of lousy pictures.

I'm a novice digital camera user and have used this camera for 8 months, and have been extremely satisfied with it.
Not only does it take very good pictures but it also allows one to record movies at 30fps at 320*240 resolution, so I have been able to record my golf-swing with it for analysis.
The only negatives are that it eats up a lot of power quickly (be sure to have a lot of rechargeable batteries on hand) and the feature layout and controls require some getting used to. The zoom feature is also tricky to use, but that could be due to user-error on my part.
But other than that I highly recommend this camera for a first-time digital camera user.

I am a big, big fan of Canon products and I love this camera, it was exactly what I was looking for in that i wanted a camera I could slip in my pocket. Picture quality is excellent "macro" for close up detailed shots is impressive and the Amazon price is excellent.Treat yourself for the summer!

I purchased my A590IS because of price and ease of hacking. Within minutes of receiving my camera I had installed CHDK on it and I had a camera with features of cameras costing much more. Now I can take awesome shots of lightning, save pictures in the RAW format, and take bracketed photos with ease. The quality of the camera is excellent and the Canon menus are easy to navigate and very intuitive. There are plenty of features for the experienced photographer and an Automatic mode that takes very nice pictures without any thought of ISO speed or any other variable. Battery life on the camera is reasonable, but I always keep a couple of extra batteries charged and ready to go. The body of this camera allows the use of accessory lenses. I purchased several of these lenses, along with the Canon adapter, and expanded the cameras capabilities even more. I like this camera so much that I am considering buying a second one so I can shoot stereoscopic images!

After putting in 2 new AA batteries I turn on the camera and it immediately turns off and I see a message on the screen that tells me I needs to change the batteries. I have had this camera for about a year and it has done this to me almost the entire time Ive had the camera. When I finally get the camera to turn on I am only able to take pictures outdoors in good natural light because I can never get the flash to work inside. I have tried using different size SD cards, tried different brands of AA batteries. Nothing is fixing the problem. There are much better camera's available at a comparable price. I have missed many photo opportunities because of this poorly made camera.

We've been very happy with this camera. It takes high quality photos and works well for both travel photos and shots of our two year old grandson who doesn't stay still. I'm glad to see that this Canon still has a view finder: so helpful for bright sunlight or times when you want to hold the camera extra steady. It's small enough to take anywhere but still has a slight bulge to help with grip. It works well on the full auto feature but also lets you use more detailed settings. It is easy to adjust exposure for strong backlighting. We've been using a SanDisk Ultra II SD Plus 2GB Card for easy camera to computer transfers.

I've had a S3IS for about 3 years. I received my SX10IS on January 8, 2009 and I shot this video the next morning at a local park. It was cold and windy and I was only carrying a mono pod. I read a complaint about short battery life but it doesn't ring true for me. I've shot a 2.5 minute video and a 26 minute video and about 400 images in 3 outings and I still have the same NiMH AA cells in the camera. It looks like it's going to be a fun camera to carry around. It's a bit larger but that's a plus for me. I'm glad they returned to putting the memory in it's own compartment because when shooting videos on a tripod it's very convenient not to have to take everything apart to change memory. The video is a bit shaky. It's at full zoom and the fox is about 100 yards from me. Thanks Canon for another great little camera and thanks Amazon for selling it at such a great price.

I just purchased this over the weekend, as well as a Sandisk SDHC 4GB card and have taken over 500 photos ranging from night shots, low light levels, overcast, bright indoor lights as well as great sun photos and all have come out great!
Pros: Easy to use interface with good sized & well marked icons. Fast power on-to-shooting time(just past two seconds), lighter than a DSLR but feels heavier than most mid level point and shoot cameras. (I personally don't like cameras that are too light in your hand.) Has a good comfotable grip although I can see where someone with large, note I said large not larger hands as mine are average, may feel like it is too small. Colors are rich and life-like without over saturation and blacks feel and look right. I have tried most of the larger sizes and the writing/processing to card seems fast, without the camera lagging. Macro and micro shots are good, with very good detail. The optical zoom is amazing as well as using the Manual Focus. Video is great and smooth. DVD quality if I recall.
Cons: The included 16mb card...enough said. Continuous photos seem to slow down when using the 8mp size photos, I only say that because I tried the smaller sizes around my 300th shot and it slowed down. I even swapped to new Lithium batteries to make sure it was not the batteries. The wheel/dial adjustment for ISO, Focus, Flash and mode seems a little loose or rather sensitive. I brushed it a few times and it went to adjust when I did not want it to. Video mode looks good but no sound!
I gave it the four stars only because of the cons I listed.
Sorry if I did not address modes or things that you may do that I did not try yet.
EDIT: I did find that I muted the sound so, yes the camera does have sound which sounds great on playback. I still can not go to five stars for the issue with the quick settings dial.

Gave this camera to my son right before a trip. It takes good photos - not professional, but more than fine as a keepsake of a memorable trip. He was delighted to learn that there is a small video capability, too. The memory card that comes with the camera is teensy, so getting an inexpensive memory card is a must - and easy to do. For the price it's hard to beat.

Excellent hi resolution pictures,long zoom,very good 640x480 Video with zoom, excellent HD 1920x1080 video (with zoom while recording). Smooth HD playback if played back thru camera. Most .mov players like in photoshop elements play HD with dropped frames for jerky video playback. Waiting for .mov player software to catch up with the hardware now.

There are dozens of reviews on this site concerning this camera and all the reviews are good. That convinced me to buy the camera. The pictures are very good and the camera is as the reviews state versatile. The Easy mode is impossible to screw-up and there's a lot of fun things to learn and do. The video on this camera has gotten a bad rap. I think the video is nearly as good as my Sony Hi8 camcorder. There is some noise on low light indoor pictures, but for a 100 dollar bill I can't imagine a better camera. My only issue is battery consumption. Buy a good rechargeable battery system with 4 batteries because you'll need them. The image stabilizer really makes a difference when using the zoom. Don't buy a camera without image stabilization.

Camera shutter button came apart the fist time it was used. Been out for repair for over two weeks. Takes nice pictures though.

Love this camera. It can be an easy point and click or give the user more control options. The zoom is easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow with the first section for point and click. Read instructions further for more detailed functions. Uses AAA batteries.

I got this camera as a birthday present from my girlfriend, but I couldn't help myself and looked at how much it cost. I was amazed by the value of this camera! I would recommend this camera to ANYONE! Loads of great features, massive and vibrant LCD screen. I cannot fault this camera in anyway. Buy it now!

I cannot believe how easy this camera is to use. It takes excellent stills and a fair quality video. The audio could be better, but it's only a hand held camera! I have been a Canon fan since owning an F-1, then a Powershot A60. Wonderful sized view screen. Half the power usage. Oh yea, "Consumer Reports" recognized it as a "Best Buy" after I bought mine, phew!

This camera is small for easy travelling and has enough functions to take any sort of artistic or tourist shot.
My only complaint is that without a stand or a perfectly still platform, the night picture quality is very poor.

I mean, what is the problem? The case is fantastic! All I wanted was a soft case, small enough to fit in my pocket but would keep out dirt and scratches. This does it perfectly and my Canon Ixus 85is fits in perfectly. Yes, the clip on the inside was a little inconvenient... but, with a little imagination and a pair of small scissors I cut the slightly tacky strap off and now it's perfect. Worth every penny.

I bought this camera to replace a trusty Pentax Optio 4mp camera that went walkies somewhere and I've been really pleased with the results so far. It's tiny, well built and takes great pictures - for the money, what more can you ask for?

This was our first digital camera and it was a birthday gift for my spouse. We have only had it a short time but have been very happy with this purchase. We live in Las Vegas and visited the strip to take some pictures including a volcano and a water show. All the pictures came out very fine.

This is the first point in shoot camera I have bought in over 5 years so when I decided it was time to upgrade my old digital camera I was surprised to discover that I could get a 10MP digital camera for half the price of what I paid for my old 4MP digital camera.
This camera is simple to use but delivers great photos. The main reasons I picked this camera is because of size and price and its performance which I have read about here and various camera websites. This camera is small enough for me to take with me anywhere I wish to go and its not a cumbersome burden like my old camera, since I have taken up hiking and rock climbing in the last year this is extremely important to me and so far it has been great to take along! The pictures it takes are awesome! I was really impressed with the quality of photos this thing takes when it is utilizing the digital zoom, it can really get out there and deliver quality of photos leaps and bounds over the digital zoom capabilities of my old camera!
