I have had this camera for over a year now. The output quality is excellent and it's easy to use, battery lasts a long time (I actually filmed a wedding ceremony with no problems) - but I have three small complaints:
1) No fill-flash option
2) No multi-shot capability on the timer function
3) Videos other than in daylight tend to be dark and grainy
Thank God it doesn't record in Quicktime!
It's expensive, but well worth it.

I have been a fan of Canon cameras for nearly 10 years and have purchased 4 of them over time. They have all performed well. Everything is easy to use, it has a good feel in the hand. If there is any negative on this camera, it is the time it takes to write the picture to the SD card. It seems to take too long in this function. Also, have been having a difficulty getting it to focus in low light conditions. But if I switch to movie mode, then it has no problems capturing what I am trying to get.

I decided to try the Lenmar replacement battery for the Canon NB-2L based on the "positive" feedback (note: there is a lot of negative) that it received and the appealing price. I was going on vacation and my current batteries were getting old and didn't hold a charge for very long anymore. So, I purchased a genuine Canon Battery, and the lower priced Lenmar battery. While the Lenmar gave satisfactory performance, based on the fact that it costed less than 1/3 the cost of the Canon. Life was definitely shorter, but again proved acceptable. It allowed me to use my Canon battery, and if it ran down on me, I could use the Lenmar to finish out my day until I could recharge. It didn't let me down. Overall life was definitely less as previously stated, but again, it was far less expensive. Actually, I could have bought (3) Lenmar batteries for (1) Canon, so....you get what you pay for.
Overall, it met my expectations, and probably then some. Not good enough for 5 stars, but definitely worthy of 4.
Note: This was used with an older Canon S30 Camera, and not a new DSLR, which might yeild different results.

the aperture can be open up to 2.8!
the large aperture provides clear foreground and blurred background which distinguishes the shot subject from surroundings.
it performs well when picturing a portrait or detailed feature.
this might be the greatest advantage of sx110 over other 10x compact digital cameras whose aperture almost start from 4.x(smaller aperture).
it is however a little bit heavy and big sized. I still like it.

I am a complete novice photographer looking for a snap shooter that would help me take better photos. I have no idea how or why I would want to set an F stop (to give you a better idea of my skill level).
After reading through the manual and using some of the different predefined settings, I was able to snap some pretty acceptable photos. I really like the face identification feature. It helps.
You do need to be judicious with the digital zoom. A little too much and, well, grainy would be the best description of the outcome.
All in all, the camera is easy to use and does a pretty good job

This little camera is great. Good size, easy to hold and use but small enough to carry easily. I set this camera up without reading the manual, it is that easy! Takes very good pictures and videos. No camera shake in the video and I was just holding the camera. I am very impressed!

I bought this camera for my wife to use with our newborn baby. My camera is a Canon DSLR (XSI) so I'm very spoiled but when I look at some of the pictures this camera takes, I'm blown away at the awesome picture quality, color rendition, sharpness & detail. 4x Zoom versus the standard 3x is also a good thing. For the price and considering the type of camera I'm reviewing I must give it 5 stars. Sure it could be better but not a that price and not with a point & shoot.

I was so disappointed with this camera, I don't know how Canon could release it with such flaws. I am a Canon user since 1975 and currently use a DSLR of theirs. I wanted good quality HD movies mainly in this camera, but I also wanted something that I could use if I wanted to travel lightly. Unless you have blazing daylight, the noise in this camera is worse than any I have seen in a camera in this category. My Powershot A720 IS which I got last year is way better. shame on Canon for not doing a better job - they can! Sent it back.

I consider myself a little bit of a photography buff, though I prefer my 35mm Pentax to anything digital. So with this Canon I was pleasantly surprised at all of the features. It ranges from a simple, user-friendly choice with automatic settings and multiple atmosphere settings, to a more complex, manual camera with a whole depth of features that make it fun to capture exactly what you want. Since I enjoy the manual aspect of 35mm, I really love the fact that I can change ISO, shutter speed, F stop, focus and everything else to really achieve the results I'm looking for. Its the first digital camera I've owned that actually operates like a camera and not a computer. Nice big screen, sturdy body, easy operating buttons & functions. I love it.
The ONLY thing I don't like about it is how fast it goes through batteries. You should really get some rechargeable ones to go with this because I can go through 2AAs in one day easily with this thing.

I just purchased the Canon PowerShot A590IS for an upcoming European vacation. I wanted a camera that was priced to fit my budget and wasn't very complicated to operate as I don't have time to read about all the bells and whistles although this camera does have a lot of them! I opened the box, read the first few pages of directions, put in the batteries and memory card and I was good to go. I clicked away for a few minutes and so far I'm very happy with the results. The camera comes with cables for a printer and computer as well as software. I would suggest purchasing a case if you don't have one. The one feature I like is that I can get a good grip on it and it's not super slim that I would drop it. I'm good to go on my vacation and I'm sure I'll have great photos when I return!

The camera is awesome! The flexibility to allow for a wide range of 'modes' is exceptional and not found on most point and shoot cameras. There is a learning curve for those of us who have not had a Cannon digital but given time I have managed to become capable of using quite a few different modes.
Patience is the key to becoming proficient and productive with this very powerful camera. Cannot be beat in its price range!!!!!!

I purchased this camera for my huband who wanted a "pocket" camera. We have a Canon Digital Rebel XT for general photos but it does not have video capabilities and is not pocket friendly. He found the Canon Powershot to be just what he was looking for and because we have a small Camnon photo printer, we can hook it right up without a problem.
He/we are still playing with it , but all in all it was a great camera for the money.

First of all I want to say that the product is very good. Until now I couldn't take good photos with the manuel option but night shots or macro shots are very good. I bought the camera for its 10X zooming, and I am pleased with it. I think this camera is a step to DSLR cameras. There was a cashback promotion from Canon so I got 30 pounds back, I advise new buyers to search for such oppotunities, but that promotion was in may.

The A590IS is probably the best camera bargain out there now. It's amazing how much camera you can get for the money nowadays, compared to just a few years ago. The A590IS is a decent performer. It's performs much better in good lighting conditions, than low light. Pictures are quite noisy, but usable at ISO higher than 200. The flash is weak, but OK for most situations. Recycle time is also slow. The camera has a view finder, but it's pretty much useless since it's tiny and very inaccurate. The 2.5" 115k low resolution LCD screen is where you can tell this is a budget camera. It does its job, but is fair at best. The video mode is limited. You can't zoom during recording, and fps has been limited to 20fps. On the positive side, battery life seems improved over previous "A" models. There are some manual modes. This is very uncommon on inexpensive cameras. The camera is fairly small, stylish, and generally takes very good pictures. All in all, it would be tough to find a better camera in this price range. The Panasonic Lumix LZ8 is probably its closest competition.

I like this camera. It was important that it have a view finder in addition to the "screen". I shoot a lot of dance performances as well as full moon at the beach, flowers, butterflies, birds and scenes with light and dark contrast. Can't wait to take it on my next trip. I also like that it uses AA batteries vs. the more expensive types. I'm happy.

I took this camera on my recent trip to Disneyland, and it did a great job. The price is fair, and battery life is terrific. I used monster cable rech batts, and never needed to charge them in 5 days of modest use. My 8 gig card will hold nearly 4000 shots at max quality, and we took over 400. Image stabilizer worked well however, very fast motion will still blur. Rarely the focus seems to be unable to locate anything to lock on, and results in a out of focus shot. This was annoying, but didn't happen often. I can see where the zoom lens could get jammed if the camera was turned on in it's case, but I always put it in review mode so I am not concerned with the jamming I have heard complaints about.

I bought this camera because of "Canon" brand which besides 9 MPix had very good zoom (10 Optical).This is my first Canon, I have used Kodak Digital Camera in the past. But I would say I am not satisfied with the results I got from Canon.
Barring battery life (better use rechargable batteries than the alkaline), the biggest drawback which turned me off is the flash (its pop up flash which I thought may be better than inbuilt imbedded ones) which makes indoor/night images yellowish in color.Maybe that's why it is priced at lower side. I am not a professional or expert but I would definitely disagree with those who are giving this camera 5 stars.

When I was looking at which camera to buy I found an extreme shortage of reviews on the Canon Powershot S80. So I hope that my addition to the growing number of reviews helps.
The following format for my review will start with the Pros, then the Cons, and finally a small summary blurb about the camera...
PROS:
-Appearance
~The Powershot S80 is surprisingly small for the power it packs, which helps make it a suitable pick for anyone who travels.
~Style... I wouldn't be surprised if famous personalities started wearing this camera on their neck chains as "Bling". It is very sharp looking, though one can determine what they think of it by looking at pictures I suppose.
-Operation
~You can find out most of the information regarding this camera's operation and statistics on various websites, but I have a few things to mention that I was not able to find online, or didn't think of looking for.
~After using this camera it is easy to see that a significant amount of effort went into gearing it for point and shoot photographers. Have no fear though, it does offer advanced settings that I have not actually been able to play with yet on my S80.
~8.0 effective mega pixels (8,000,000 pixels) worth of resolution means for example, if you turn on the Macro setting (at least 4 CM or 1.6 inches from the subject) and take a picture of your index finger, then, upload it to your computer and zoom in on your fingerprint you will actually be able to see the tiny particles or dirt stuck between the many crevices that make up your fingerprint. It is really amazing. The resolution has been incredible for every photograph and video that I have taken thus far.
~The video recording capability of the S80 is unmatched for any other camera in its size or price range for that matter. One of the important factors that I was looking for when shopping for my camera was that the video format was basically anything but ".mov". The S80 uses .avi which means that you can use windows media player to watch the video that you record and more video editing tools to manipulate footage that you record. The video resolution of the S80 goes up to 1024 x 768 at 15 until you consume up to 1 Gigabyte of memory. I recorded a video last night and watched it (with the cables provided in the box) on my 32'' television. I am still amazed at how clear the image was. I will even go so far as to say that this camera will second as a camcorder for certain purposes, which would then imply that I think that it is a good 2 for 1 buy. Which it is ;-). You can also record in lower video resolution up to 1 Gigabyte too. If you are planning on using the highest quality picture and video settings, buy a SD memory card with lots of memory, I bought a 2 Gigabyte card myself. Ah, and I took a 48 second video on the highest resolution and the file was 87.8 Megabytes, which will give you some rough idea of how much footage you will be able to shoot on the memory card of your choosing.

Also, my friend had his camera die due to a simple mistake in battery purchase, he put Lithium AA batteries in his camera (I forget the make and model, it was a 3.2 MP though) instead of the Alkaline batteries he was supposed to be using and it totally broke. I was amazed that such a simple mix up could kill a 200$ purchase. When I helped him bury his camera (in the trash) I swore to myself that I would only go with rechargeable in the future.
~For its size the S80 offers just a little more than the norm with a 3.6x optical zoom. Which is really cool. Don't even turn on the digital zoom. It's worthless and probably one of the worst ideas ever conceived. You might as well take a magnifying glass and hold it up to the picture, the quality suffers when you zoom in with the digital.
~The LCD screen is massive (2.5 inches) which is good for video playback and reviewing your photos before downloading them to your computer. It also appears to be very strong, which is a definite plus.

The camera takes decent shots, but what annoys me is the constant low-battery life icon that would keep popping up after about 30 shots. I used the batteries that came with the camera, and I used many different brand new batteries too. I thought that I got a defective product, so I sent it back and had it exchanged, but it gave me the same problem again. So I thought that I would just ignore the icon and still take shots, well then it wouldn't allow you to take anymore and ask you to replace the batteries. I sent this crappy camera back to Amazon and got a full refund. I am still trying to find a camera, I might get the Panasonic lumix this time, but I'll wait until Amazon gets more of those since I don't want to pay for shipping.

Judging by the other views I can only assume their is something wrong with mine .Yes it looks nice , its pocketable ,it's pretty and it takes not bad photos indoors . However , out doors it is woefull . I have seen just as good results from a throwaway camera .

this camera has been out of production for over a year.i sold this camera at my job for 179.95.we closed them out at 119.95.it is a great camera with a lag time of .5 of a second.very good for a aa powered camera.

Used the camera for the first time on a recent vacation trip and was very satisfied. Pictures are very good and camera function was good (Mostly used automatic settings). Main reasons for buying this camera were: Brand name I trust ..... High resolution for the price .... 4X optical zoom and still easy to carry in pocket....and most important - View finder is a MUST!
If you are not a professional like me and merely want a good camera, I highly recommend this one.
