I BOUGHT A CANON POWERSHOT SX100IS FOR $223.00 Dlls.THROUGH AMAZON.COM, FROM 17th.Street Photo AND IT WAS A GREEN LEMON AND A RIP=OFF BECAUSE THE ZOOM WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEVER WAS ABLE TO GET A CLEAR PICTURE......ALWAYS BLURRED!!! AND UPON TRYING TO USE THE ZOOM...THE LENS RETRACTION WOULD GET STUCK AND A MESSAGE KEPT APPEARING ON THE LCD....."lens error......restart the camera"....
1.- My order was placed from Mexico to Amazon on June 27, together with another ten different items which arrived at my daughter's home in Denver by July 7....
2.- I arrived at my daughter's for a month vacation on sunday july 20th, and upon checking my items ordered, I noticed the deffective CANON CAMERA and reported it to the vendor 17TH STREET PHOTO who never answered my complaints and my desired to send it back and exchange it for another BETTER BRAND like PANASONIC LUMIX TZ5K or something equivalent and willing to pay for the difference....
3.-After almost three weeks of complaints to Amazon.com and 17th Street Photo I HAVE NOT HAD A SINGLE ANSWER TO OFFER ME AN HONEST AND ADEQUATE OPTION FOR SOLVING MY PROBLEM......
"THIS WAS A COMPLETE RIP-OFF...!!!"

4.- I now have seen the same camera at BEST BUY here in Denver for $239.00Dlls, where you can operate it and double check it befor you buy it......and they give you a U.S. Garantee for one year...

I bought this Canon Powershot just before leaving on a family trip and had just a few hours to familiarize myself with it before putting it to work. Given my lack of familiarity with any digital cameras, I have little with which to make a comparison, however, I found the camera easy to use and was very satisfied with the resulting pictures.
I was warned by my sister that the capacity of the memory card supplied with the camera would be too small, so I immediately bought another card. If I hadn't been forewarned, I certainly would have been disappointed on my trip.
Finally, in the course of two weeks I took about 300 photographs and ran through three sets of batteries. The 2x batteries are inexpensive and easy to find, but I don't know if that rate of use is par for the course.
Overall, I was pleased with the ease of use and the quality of the pictures.

There are a wide range of digital cameras in this price brand, but I have to admit I am impressed with the Canon A470.

There is a large amount of easily available information on the model, so I will just list the main features I have impressed me the most.

Firstly whilst so many are getting smaller and smaller, this Canon has a nice comfortable fit in the hand, with not too many buttons and is not too fiddly to use.

The screen is of a good size which makes it much easier to frame the picture and also in bright sunlight, the image is still visible (unlike some screens).

I plugged in a 2Gb memory card (which was really cheap) so I can now take nearly 1000 pictures, in standard format, before I have to unload to my PC. Connection to the PC is very easy, just appears as an additional hard drive and you can drag/drop the files accordingly.

On the functionality side, the out of the box standard settings are more than adequate, but are easy to adjust. I managed to work most of them out without reading the manual.

As an overall package this camera is great!

Nice wide screen, very clear view and photos. Batteries lasted over 120 photos. Very good videos. Have not figured out yet how to keep the camera from reseting the flash on feature every time I turn it off and on again. Many features I have not played with yet.

Options - options - options!!! This camera gives you the options you need in a nice entry level digital camera. I have used it for portrait photography, during meteor showers (pictures just needed slightly edited in Photoshop), for paranormal investigations (yep ghost hunting is a hobby), for product shots for websites and much more. It has everything you can want in a camera. Although it might be a little old (I got mine about a year ago), but if I was going to buy somebody a camera or another one for myself I would definitely choose this camera or another Canon Powershot. In fact my mother-in-law loved the pictures so much she went out and bought herself one. And she loves it too.

The only con is a slight problem it has when taking pictures of eyes. If you use the red eye reduction mode it isn't much of a problem, but without it you may get a lot of green and red hued eyes from your subjects. If you forget to set your red eye reduction mode on you may need to touch up your pictures in a photo editor.

Other than that the camera is perfect! Batteries last long (I'd say over 300-400 pictures per set of batteries - which includes a lot of looking at the screen and reviewing the pictures), their are a ton of customizable settings, the movie mode takes gorgeous movies and the pets & kids mode sure helped me when taking pictures of my new kitten. It also has everything you need in order to plug it into your TV outs and play picture shows for family and friends. Which is great when you want to show grandma some of your pictures and she doesn't have a computer.

The first major use the camera got was at the zoo and in the hands of my wife. She didn't bother to read the manual or practice. Without really kn owing what she was doing - the pictures turned out perfectly! The zoom was amazing!!! She got pictures of the animals that showed such detail as veins on the tongues of the giraffes. Dust cracks on the backs of the elephants and much more. Best part was that she was over 20 to 30 feet away from her subjects and out of harms way. Yet the pictures were so close and detailed!

One tip - get a larger memory card - 1gb or more. As with ALL digital cameras you buy these days you will need higher storage than the card they give you. I mean at the highest quality setting on this camera (7mb) - you can only take about 15 pictures before the camera card they give you is full. Save yourself the frustration and just buy a larger memory card.

For those of you interested in ghost hunting this camera is great! I'm happy to say that after extensive testing this camera doesn't show that many orbs created from dust. Some digital cameras have a hard time with dust and this one doesn't have many false positives in dusty conditions.

My order arrived sooner than expected. The camera was brand new - in excellent condition, as promised. I am very satisfied with the Canon PowerShot A470 and would recomend it highly to anyone.

I love this camera! I didn't even know I was in the market for a camera until I used my friends Canon SX110IS. It was so easy to use and understand, and downloading the pictures onto the computer was snap. The next week I bought mine. Since getting it I have taken many pictures-the first test was my 3 year olds birthday party. Let me tell you, the kids and pets setting on the camera was up to the occassion. I got some great group shots even though they were running around the back deck with our dog. I have since brought it to a concert, a couple trips to the park, and taken Easter portraits. All of them are clear. I will never buy anything but a canon again.

This camera compromises on a lot to fit it all in. Thus it does not do any one thing super well. But it does do many things.
The image quality I would prefer to have a slightly oversaturated color. I almost always have to tweak outdoor pictures.
Does not take good indoor(low light) photo's compared to other smaller cameras, flash overfill.
Is rather fragile.
The lens distortion is huge when trying to capture vertical items.
Video is adequate.

Probably the best camera out there with all the features and still fits in your pocket. But a lot of compromises.
If you want better outdoor and event photos, and don't need to fit in your pocket, definately look else where, something with a bigger lense.

For indoor photos or basic outdoor photos, one of the smaller pockets would do.

This Canon A470 was purchased for a friend who wanted an easy to operate and inexpensive digital camera. This one fit the bill perfectly. They are very happy with it and use it a lot.

This camera fulfils all our expectations - its size fits into pockets, bags or any small space easily. Also it fits comfortably into your hand, though it is necessary to use the wrist strap as it is very smooth.

The photo quality is excellent, professional in fact even for an amateur photographer. The price you pay for this is a photo that is a bit heavy on MB. The zoom is easy to use and close at hand.

The peep sight is somewhat small but you get used to it.

Altogether I could really recommend this gem for fast picture taking and for your more serious shots as well.

Have not had this camera very long put I am very pleased with it so far. The zoom is great and pictures are good. A little heavier that I am use too but not a problem. I had a Sony cyber shot before and have always had a Sony camera but decided to try a Canon and I like this Canon better. I am not a photo expert so for my needs this camera is good.

Great camera. I have been very pleased with it. A friend dropped it while we were on a cruise and we were able to order the part to fix it. But before then the camera continued to take great pictures even after the damage. Awesome!

I owned two other Canon Power Shot cameras: the original A30 (3 MP), and the 530(5MP). I was most satisfied with both. I bought the 590IS for its image stabilization feature and the fact that it was 8 MP. I am disappointed. I have had more blurred pictures with this camera in three weeks than I had in the entire period of my ownership of the other two cameras. The viewfinder, a good feature not available in many new point-and-shoot cameras, is unreliable in terms of coverage; I never had this issue in either of the earlier Canon iterations. The color is spotty. The battery life is terrible. The motion pictures, at higher resolutions, are only 20 fps, rather than 30 in the older camras. This camera has all the bells and whistles, and appears to be a wonderful value for the money, but performance has been a disappointment. I prefer my three year old A 530 Power Shot.

Solid value for the money, with good-quality zoom and a big range of resolutions available. The controls are reasonably intuitive to use. The camera has some nice functions (e.g. timer), but is missing others (e.g. panoramic shot, as far as we could tell).

My son bought this camera for me this Christmas and I'm still learning how to use it, but I'll do some pros and cons here:

Pros: View finder, large LCD screen, great macro setting, nice size with hand grip.

Cons: Long delays between shots, grainy at long range, flash too bright, no neck strap.

I really like the feel of this camera, and I love the view finder, but overall it's a step down from my present camera. I have a Konica Minolta Dimage Z20, 5 megapixels and 8X optical. I love that camera but it's too bulky to take everywhere. It doesn't have the image stabilizer but it seems to take clearer pictures than the Canon does. However, the macro on the Canon is much better than the KM, and that's important to me.

I'm really concerned with the long delay between shots, and if anyone can tell me how to fix this, I would appreciate it. I'm not especially techno-savvy and that thick manual is pretty intimidating! (But at least it comes with a manual.)

This is a wonderful camera, but it was delivered broken. It would not receive the memory card, so we had to return it.

This is a great product for those interested in learning how to take good quality digital pictures. It is easy to learn and easy to use, and I was very satisfied with my first photos. It was used in a student camp situation and the kids did unbelievable nature photos.

This camera is very poorly made, battery compartment is awkward to open and hard to keep shut. Camera is diffiult to turn on with the recessed power button. Suck batteries dry overnight if you leave them in the camera - even if camera is turned off. Love the other canon elph i had - but this one is going in the trash and I am getting one of the others instead. Don't recommend at all.

I will make this simple and quick.
I love this camera for its photographic qualities, great videos with the extra memory,etc.
But take this thing out in the rain and take photos, and it will be ruined! It was not raining heavy, but condensation became apparent inside of the LCD screen, thusly no more working camera became a fact in my case.
I have just ordered the Canon Power Shot D10 Waterproof camera.

I was in the market for a new camera and had always owned Pentax or Kodak. As i researched I noticed Canon's get great ratings so I considered a few Canon's in my quest for a new digital camera. I also checked out the Panasonic Lumix TZ5, very nice, however I liked the options and features on the Canon SX110 better. One really neat feature it has that I did not see on any of the cameras I looked at was the playback button. You can view the pictures you have taken without powering on the camera, WOW! Besides the awesome pictures this camera takes and how easy it is to use, you can also use the zoom feature while in video mode (most digicams do not do that). Great camera overall, however the only 2 faults I have found is the date can only be imprinted on the picture in postcard mode (think this is 2mp). This is alright for me b/c I use low res for mostly emails and 4x6 prints, however may not be good for people who like to take pics in higher resolutions. The other flaw is the SLOW flash recycle, you could miss out on some good pics bc of this. I also want to praise amazon.com for the great price which was $55 cheaper than the local retail stores in my area and I received my camera the day after I ordered it! Now that's super fast service!!

I am not professional photographer, but I always like simple functionality for great output. This camera has suited in every aspect to my expectation. I got this camera from Target about 5 months ago, and now I just cannot live without it.

I just got this camera today and imediatelly love how small it is and how easy it was to operate. I was able to do basic things without reading the manual and then read it just for fun and discovered it could do a lot more than I expected. This is a great point and shoot camera. if you are looking for a basic point and shoot this is a good one!

I had a Canon A250 and I was very satisfied with the photos, then it was broken accidentaly by a friend. So l decided that my new camera had to be a Canon again because l couldnt bare the thought of not having such a good camera!!! The pics are excellent and everybody that shares the pics with me, tells me so. I am a totally happy customer,,,,enjoy,,,!!!

I'm not good at taking pictures. I'd like to say I am ... but I've known for years that it's just not true.

That is ... until I bought this camera. I've gleaned more "good" pictures from what I've snapped in the brief time I've owned this marvel - than I've taken in my entire life!! (and I'm STILL learning the camera!!)

I carry it with me everywhere ... *EVERYWHERE* I get so many compliments on the photos I've taken!!

Now, I don't have any great aspirations of being any sort of photographer -- I bought the camera to take pictures of my work to share for progress photos on a project -- still, I find myself taking photos of other things as well. Before, taking a photo was amongst the list of last things I would do!

All I can say is BRAVO!! great price - great product - worth MORE than what you pay!!!
