I had an older model PowerShot that broke after two years on constant use. It was $600 for the camera and accessories. I bought this one for a fraction of the price and it blew me away with its quality. Canon has improved the camera's ability to take sharp pictures without any need for camera expertise. It is worth learning how to use the extra functions though. It has many settings for lighting, sound, focus, flash, self-timer, date stamp. It has a good zoom and great flash with lots of settings for any type of lighting you intend to shoot in: daytime, nighttime, indoor incandescent or fluorescent, etc. A bargain for a wonderful camera. I highly recommend Canon as one of the best cameras on the market and certainly the best camera for the investment.

We had our first child in the Spring of 2012, and in anticipation I bought a new camera to capture all of the special moments. I did a decent amount a research and landed on getting this camera, big mistake.It takes forever to snap pictures between shots, the flash takes a lot time to charge. The auto setting would get us blurry pictures more often then not, so I began using the manual settings. Did a ton of research on shutter speed, aperture, etc to try to find the sweet spot. I tweaked and tweaked and tweaked the settings, to no avail. I'm not a professional photographer, but I'm no dummy either, with the amount of time and effort I put into this, you would think I could get some semi-decent shots.The result, 1 out of every 10 pictures snapped was even remotely salvageable. So many great Kodak moments lost during my baby's first year and a half. Now I'm already shopping for something to replace this oversized piece of junk.

The camera was purchased to replace a Canon camera purchased 5 years ago. The old camera worked well but this one was on sale and had a better optical zoom. When I started using the camera I noticed it worked much better in low light conditions and with the increased megepixels produced much better pictures. It was easy to crop the pictures later and still have plenty of definition left. It works on regular AA bateries so when the bateries are low all you have to do is put a new set in and you are good for a while. Batteries seem to last a long time and if you use the special Energizer lithium batteries they can last for months. I would buy a similar camera again, in fact, I did buy another for my wife.

This is a great camera overall. I had the previous version to this camera as well. There are cameras out now that offer the same or more and in a much smaller package, but I didn't have enough to buy those at the time of my purchase, so I opted for getting high quality for less cost, but with a slightly larger camera (its still not crazy big or anything) I keep in in my normal size purse.The one main thing with this camera as was with the earlier version of it as well is the flash is SLOW! You cannot take quick pictures in lighting where the flash is needed. However, you don't need the flash all that often because it takes great pictures without it most of the time and then it takes the pictures fast. Other than that, it is so easy to maneuver the settings of this camera and the zoom/recording is great.

This camera is amazing. It has worked perfectly. Close ups or distance. Always clear and sharp. Have only used the movie once. Looked sharp as well. I would highly recommend this camera. Especially Amazon's price. Don't know how they do it.

We had one like this for two years and loved it. Someone took it while we were at Disney World on our last day. Certainly didn't mind replacing the camera. Just missed our pictures from 4 weeks of vacation. LOVE the fact that you can use regular batteries. Sometimes (like at Philmont) you can't charge anything. You can always AA get batteries.

I own a previous Canon PowerShot S5 IS (8M, I bought back at 2008) and found it to be a great camera, on the prosumer side. The zoom features were very good, and too late I found out that the when taking video, the quality was very good, but for todays technology is regular.Based on the Canon personal reference and because the SX150 had a great deal at the local Costco, I decided to buy it. The main reason was that I wanted to take advantage of it size compared to my previous canon, and also because the video is a 720p HD, better than the420 of my previous camera. I was aware the SX150 was not a direct replacement, it was more on the "pocket camera" side than on the "prosumer camera" side.Pros: The pictures taken with the camera are very good. Very nice detail, simple to use, smaller if compared with my previous camera (still qualify as pocket camera). It has some very cool features as to filter the image to just the color you want, i.e. if you select green, it will provide a picture/video on gray tones and will let the green objects to be unfiltered. The video is not full HD, it is 720p, but for my Mac, it is enough for great home video edition. Simple to use. The anti shaking filter is really awesome, it will provide really nice stand video when filming. I actually prefer this video quality than other HD camcorders. I also bought a 16GB memory, so I have almost 2hrs of video, plus all the pictures I want. Unless you are a professional that shoots the straigth 2 hrs, 16GB will be more than enough for your family daily activitiesCons: Unlike my previous Canon, the display cannot be twisted, turned off, moved on angle (tilted), and if you have used this features, you really missed it. The lens is slightly smaller, but does not really impact the quality. An small spec somehow go inside the camera lens, and even though this is not affecting the pictures yet, I found it to be really discomforting (my previous Canon never got dust inside the lens). It is kind of slower than my previous camera so some time is required to actually shot the object (specially my kids).Some people complain a lot about the battery life, and I was aware of that, so I take an alternative approach. I bought 4 AA rechargeable batteries and an small camera case, and every time I take the camera with me, I have the extra batteries. The camera actually consume a lot of power, and I have found that for a regular 5 hrs of use, the battery needs to be replaced. So far I have not spend the two pairs, so this approach has worked really good.So at the end, if you see the cost-benefit, for a 150USD you get a really nice product, excellent pictures, great video, affordable and a easy to use camera. Is it the best? of course not, but the 150USD are unbeatable for what you get.

my previous cannon powershot had finally died. this newer model is awesome. i carry my camera around all the time, i like the amount of zoom and pixels for such a portable camera and the viewer is large enough for my aging eyes to see what i'm taking pictures of!

These Powershot Cameras have a #1620 battery inside that CANNOT be replaced unless you work for NASA. Once it dies the camera will not function. Yes, it takes incredible photos and can be shot in manual mode like an old professional film camera but it is designed to die after about 2 years. I took it apart and found the #1620 battery on the far left side of the camera to the left of the view screen. This battery operates the red low light focus beam and the time delay shutter beam. That beam does not operate off the two AA batteries on the right side. It's a disgusting world we live in when such a fine piece of technology is designed to be thrown away. I'll never buy a Canon product again.

It takes pretty good pictures, but the flash is really slow to charge, and I've missed lots of great kid shots because I was waiting for it to charge between flashes. Also, this thing eats batteries like nothing I've ever owned--you only get about 30-40 shots and the low battery light comes on (it's...crazy fast).

I'm a bit of a tech-head and I love my gadgets. I have had plenty of compact cameras, and although the fit-in-your-pocket cameras are a great idea, the pictures have never really done it for me, there's always just that hint of blur or graininess which is so frustrating on that picture that 'would have been great'. So I thought I'd try a 'full size' camera. Well ok, this is an older model, but heck at this price I had to give it a shot (discounted 48% from original RRP when I got it).So I have to be upfront - it DOES chew through batteries. I have no idea why, but it does so do yourself a favour an invest in decent batteries like these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004DW7S06/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_img_sol_10With a fresh pair of these in, and a spare pair along, I've never run out. I'd always carry a spare battery anyway, so really don't see it as a big deal. Now if you are going to use it HEAPS, and I mean hundreds of photos and hours of video, you're going to need lots more batteries, but for the casual user like me, this has been fine. Even on busy nights i've gotten through fine, and the great thing is that because it takes standard AA batteries in a pinch you can always find some more to get you through in an emergency.That aside, I've just found it really easy to get really clean, clear crisp pictures with great color and depth with very little effort. I've seen some other reviews picking holes in the picture quality, but _come on_ - what are you doing with the pictures? Making posters? Sitting there zooming in on every pixel? If like me, you are using it for family and general life, then this is great. It's simple, it's fool-proof yet has all the gadgets you need if you like to play. It really is an awesome deal I can't see me needing to buy another camera for a very long time.If you are after ultra-portable or ultra high-tech, then you'll need to go pay 3 times as much to find as good a quality picture in my opinion.

I have had this camera since March 15th, 2013 and I am having the same problems that I have had with this model on 2 previous occasions. This is my third camera since my original purchase on July 24, 2012. Each camera has the same problem: a display of a flashing battery, then the camera will shut down and says" change the batteries", which fails to remedy the problem. I may have taken a total of 30 pics, tops, before this camera shut down. This one and the previous one were refurbished. I am furious with Canon and this PowerShot model- this model is completely unreliable for vacations. I would like Canon to refund my purchase price for this camera(they refused)so that I can make a more quality purchase from another manufacturer. This is incredible that I continue to have the same problems, regardless of the battery type. It is stored in it's case when not in use and none have ever been damaged. I have had the same problem with the A1300(sent in in March of 2013). I fully expect them to breakdown as well given the quality of the manufacturer. I simply cannot in good conscience write exactly how furious I am with this issue. Once the "change the battery" comes on- it's too late, the camera is done for. This was the first camera I have ever bought and it is a huge headache. I can't trust it on vacations any other important event. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MODEL OE THE A1300. My sons cameras have both been sent in for the same issue and they received them at Christmas!

I had read the reviews...I was a little wary after reading the reviews that said it used up the batteries too fast, so I bought the rechargeable variety. I haven't noticed that it uses them too quickly..I think it's the best digital camera I've ever had. There are so many features, I have been using this camera for 6 months and still haven't gotten around to discovering them all. I highly recommend this camera

This camera consumes a lot of batteries. After 19 shots, the low-battery sign starts bliniking. I regret buying it. It's a waste of money.

Exactly what I wanted. I hated taking pictures with my cell phone and this is the perfect alternative for me. Easy point and shoot. Great pictures. I have not gone to the reusable batteries yet as I have not really gone through batteries as quick as I thought I would. The flash is perfect for getting just the right amount of light for inside pictures. I'm really very happy with this camera. Not too big and not too small either.

I got this camera at an amazing price on Black Friday and I couldn't be happier. Before this camera I had another canon camera, the Powershot A610, which was a great camera but after so many years with it, I wanted a little more without having to spend more than 200 dollars.The tryout: I have been trying the SX150is under different conditions: Under lots of sunlight, at night, taking pictures from my car, with my dogs, cloudy days and so far the pictures have been amazing. I haven't had any problems using the 3 inch screen under very sunny days. The zoom of this camera is lots of fun, especially on video mode, I was in a race track the other day and it was cool to use it to not miss any part of the action, even when the cars were far away on the other side of the track. Yes, it's true that it is a little bulky, you might not be able to slide it inside your jeans pockets but, just like somebody wrote, that's where your cellphone should go, not your camera. It's easy to use with just one hand while your other hand has a soda or a beer, so no need to worry that you will miss enjoying the food and drinks at the BBQ because you decided to take pictures.The Flash: Before getting the camera I was kinda worried about it, since you gotta be pulling it up if you want to use it. The truth is that once I got my camera and started taking pictures I didn't feel that was a problem, the camera lets you know if you need flash, although there are sooo many ways to take great pictures with this camera without even thinking of using the flash. Taking pictures at night is awesome, I haven't seen cameras on this price range taking pictures in low light with the quality that this camera gives you. The flash does take a little bit to load, but it is not a big problem for me, it's not like you have to sit or make people hold a smile for 30 seconds so that you can take a picture with flash.I have read some complaints about battery issues but, that shouldn't be a problem if you buy good rechargeable batteries. I got for this camera four (4) 3100 mAh rechargeable batteries and it's a whole big difference when you compare them with what alkaline batteries or lithium batteries can give you. The fun part is that, in case your rechargeable batteries run dry, you can always get some AA anywhere you are and keep having fun with your camera until you can recharge them again, so my advice is that if you have this camera and you don't want to be one of those people giving crappy scores to this camera just because they are too hard headed to keep feeding this camera with normal batteries, spend a little over 10 dollars in batteries as the ones I got, I spent a whole afternoon taking pictures and videos with these batteries without having to recharge them.To make this short, if you want the best camera that money can buy for less than 200 dollars, this is it. No other camera will give you the quality or the features that this one has. I'm very happy with what this camera offers, it has been way more than what I expected. You won't regret it and remember: BUY GOOD RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES!! It's just silly to keep seeing people writing complaints about using this camera with normal batteries of little capacity.

Even though it would insist the batteries were low when I just changed them, I fin this to be this camera's only flaw.This camera has been dropped many times, surviving each drop with no more than a scratch. Other cameras I had did not survive similar falls.

My husband bought me this camera and I do like it, but I have a little complain about the life of the battery. If you use the regular AA batteries, this camera really eats up the life out of our battery pretty quick. The way to do it is to buy rechargeable batteries and I am going to order some. It also takes a while to charge the flash of the camera so there are times I miss some good shots. Other than that, I like the quality of the photos and the videos that this camera take. Also, the microphone is located on the top left of the camera where your finger goes to hold the camera. Sometimes I would forget that it is there and you end up covering it with your finger when taking your shot. So be aware always that the microphone is on that side or else you would end up like my husband taking a video and couldn't hear himself because he forgot to take his finger off of the microphone. Bad place for it.

I would say I'm a fairly decent photographer snapping photos, home and abroad for about the last 40 years.I purchased the Powershot SX150 in May for a 10 day cruise in Alaska. I've also used it for a few other weekenders and day hikes since then. So this camera has got some good usage under different but average conditions in the last 3 months. I'm satisfied with the quality of the photos.Battery life is fine. I'm not sure what people are complaining about. I just bought several pairs of rechargeable batteries. Even with all the photos I was snapping of my family on the cruise I never noticed myself having to constantly change batteries. Battery usage was not an issue. Double AA batteries was an actually a feature I wanted in a camera since I know I can easily bring along several pairs of rechargeable batteries which can be shared with my other electronics, such as my GPS.Size of camera is a little larger than your average point and shoot, but this was never an issue. On my trips and hikes I had the camera in a belt pouch and it never felt overly bulky or in the way.Interfacing with the camera is easy and logical. Most used features/options are usually one or two button clicks away.I also wanted a camera with features similar to a SLR camera, such as shutter and aperture priority which most point and shoots do not offer.The large 3" viewing screen is a nice feature to review/show photos and easily read the different options.Value is excellent. There are more than enough features that you'll ever need. The best and most used feature is the powerful zoom. One can get some great effects with the zoom. I noticed no drop off in quality. However at the higher magnifications you'll need to anchor the camera on a sturdy base.I only noticed two minor drawbacks. The first is the flash recycle time. Like other people have commented, the flash does seem to take an extra second or two to recharge compared to other point and shoots. The second is when taking macro shots with a flash, the lens barrel projects a shadow in the photo - this is minor unless you do this type of photography all the time.This is a great camera for the value. The Powershot SX150 is a versatile camera, perfect for the photographer who wants to use it for every day conditions and/or on trips with some advance features of an SLR.

Not only is the battery life a deal spoiler (as noted all over the place) the digital noise is unacceptable. Shame on Canon, they must know they lose customers when they make this kind of c*ap (if there was a 0 star, id rated it as such)

This camera takes great pictures I like it but it goes through batteries FAST! I have spent more on batteries since I bought it then I did the camera easily. Also the flash takes a long time to charge up so it is easy to miss the perfect shot. However you know when it is on because you have to manually flip it up, making it easier to not accidently take pictures of gallery subject matter that restricts the use of a flash. I think I will figure out the features eventually as with all electronics instructions leave unanswered questions.
