Straight outta the box, this board is massive. However, it's also (basically) one giant heat sync. Temperatures are incredible. I was a little concerned about the PCIe slot being between the CPU and GPU, but stress tests with both of those components OC'd (5.1 and 2.1 respectively), it doesn't raise the temps any higher than idle temps.
The back plate is lighted, which makes things very convenient if you ever fiddle around back there in the dark. Both the QLED and Display are easy to read and show error codes/actual problem (i.e., HDD error, rather than 'just' a two digit code). The rest of the RGB features on the board are great, too. Hands down one of the best looking motherboards on the market.
If you're OC'ing with this board, you're going to want to do everything manually. If you set things to auto/adaptive and let XMP do its thing, you're going to see voltages at 1.54 and higher. Would not recommend letting it make its own decisions, it's like a 10yr old in a LEGO store...gonna want a bit of everything. However, doing things manually is a breeze. I'm very fond of this BIOS. In light of that, I 'did' have stable overclocks letting the board do its thing. It ran really hot (over 100C, even with a 360mm AIO), but it was stable. Dropping voltage to 1.46 resulted in spikes no higher than 90C, average in the low 80s. I'll continue to work with it, but that's more a discussion for the CPU (I've also reviewed the i7-10700K if you care).
The board layout is fantastic with one exception. All headers/plugins are on the border (I came from a board in which that was not the case), all labeled and easy to read, a TON of fan slots, with the one exception...if you're liquid cooled and you have an AIO that REQUIRES you to plug into the AIO slot, it 'is' at the very bottom of the board, and the three separate AIOs I've owned were not long enough to reach. If you can plug into a CPU slot, you're fine. There are several to choose from within reach. Just keep it in mind if your cooler isn't capable of that.
The board comes with a DIMM2 extension, giving you the possibility of sticking your PCIe drives in eternal slots rather than tucked under heat shielding. It also comes with the latest and greatest Thunderbolt hookup, if that's something that tickles your fancy. I'm yet to try the WiFi antenna as I prefer wired, but I've heard it's nothing to write home about. It works.
If you have the money to drop on it, do it. You won't be disappointed in the least bit. There isn't an Intel board I'd recommend more.

So, I stream here on amazing everyday! I did a stream where I built my current PC with this mobo.
Unfortunately there was bent pins, and the live dash LED didn't work. It disappointed me. I rated it 3 stars because of my first initial problems but I do absolutely love this motherboard to death. It's one of my favorite motherboards of all time and even though I'm not using custom water cooling it looks fantastic! It has 5.1 bluetooth that I use to connect my Airpods to while I chat in discord overall It's an amazing motherboard! I hope you don't get a bad one like me.

Really happy to have spent a little more to improve my motherboard in my latest build! ASUS has a good reputation for delivering sturdy, well-packaged hardware. If you're building with an liquid CPU cooler, be sure to note the clearance on this board to make sure all your parts will fit. A NZXT Z73 AIO cooler will block the first RAM slot on this board, unless you rotate it 90 degrees.
*note* If you're writing one star reviews for the "Scratched" details on the front of the board, slow down. There is a protective plastic film on the panels on this board that may show scratches, this is common with electronics like these. Just peel off the plastic once you're comfortable with your installation and you'll be all set.

Overall a nice board with RAM OC being the main drawback. I am pasting the rest of this from a post I made on the Asus form.
Just feedback for those considering Asus z490. I just have experience with the Apex and Hero Z490. I also have the z390 versions of both boards and was satisfied with those.
Anyway I also got a MSI Unify to try since the Z490 Hero was a disappointment to get memory working stable at anything over 4000-4133. The Unify is much better for training and getting memory either 4x8 or 2x16gb clocks higher than even on the Apex when using 2x16.
I preferred the aesthetics of the Hero but went with the Unify since it also sets much lower CPU voltages than Asus does if leaving things on default.
I used varies stick of memory from 3600/16, 4000/c15, 4500/c18 to 4800/c18 GSkill and Team b die kits for tesing and also 2 10850k and 1 10700k for testing so i know it is not down to one item like a CPU or memory being the issue.
Not that the Hero only running 4000 on 4x8 or 4133 on 2x16 is that big of an issue just compared to the Unify being able to clock 4400-4600 with the same CPU and memory it shows a large difference and hopefully Asus can fix it but I am doubtful if this far after release they still haven't.
The z490 Apex also is a disappointment compared to to the Unify when comparing 2x16 memory training and OCing. The Unify looks like it will do what the Apex does and much easier and faster for someone new to memory OCing.

I have to qualify my review as being based on very limited experience with this board, but I was quite impressed with the board overall.
I first ordered this king Asus Z490 motherboards but after delivery noticed that there was no ability to utilize on-board integrated graphics from the CPU (which I desire to use). So back it went. I have to say that the board is just amazing based on my hands-on-only. It feels like it is filled with copper or lead!
I wish I could have used this board with the 10gbps NIC and Thunderbolt interface, but that will have to wait. I will note that a competitor to this Asus board (there are 3 in the arena) does plumb/inject the display port output to the Thunderport port - I wish Asus had an option for this on this Extreme board.
I had to run out to the local blue and yellow store and buy an Asus Strix to allow me to continue with my build. The Strix seems to be one of the best mid-level boards for more users with more needs (better I/O options, overclocking, etc.). I write software and needs lots of striped M.2 performance and some mild but stable OC.
If you need/want use integrated graphics (i.e. 10900K) and not discrete video cards, because you want a semi-workstation-level machine for productivity, then the Asus Strix is probably the best all around board to get. No board, from any vendor seems to provide a HDMI/DP video ports, 10gbps NIC port AND Thunderbolt port on the rear I/O panel - this would be great for power users that are not using discrete video cards. Maybe this will appear with Z590+ boards - I hope so.

I purchased this motherboard over 4 months ago and have had nothing but problems. I've been back and forth with ASUS over the issue and they up till a month ago or so blamed it on everyone else until finally, they admitted it's their MOBO. They told me they had a new one in testing over 3 weeks ago for an RMA and I just got an email saying they never had one for me and will not make me a priority over a new customer. I bought this to build a computer to help me work at home during COVID 19 and specifically for a job that I couldn't finish because the mobo will randomly get stuck at the ASUS logo screen and reset for hours and then magically work again. ASUS has been a complete and utter joke throughout this process... I've always recommended ASUS to colleagues and friends but not anymore after this...

This BIS mobo is all the right stuff, performance, quality, and AI. So far this thing is blazinf, durable, ergonomic as they get, and super adaptable. Its running a 10600k havent OC yest but from the looks of the heat sinks and vrm, also playing with the AI, I think it will be just under the $750 boards, and make over 5ghz no prob. Also it interacts with the ram nicely. Definately my opinion best board of any for z490. It also runs pretty good temps at the moment, bit im hooking up the 2 waterloops next month. Great software, and packaging. Cool led.

Note: This is an EATX form factor. It is a large MB that requires a large case. As other reviewers have stated, this board stands alone for tweaking...amazing voltage control, great bio, looks stunning as well. This board also has great heat dissipation. There are thick heat spreaders everywhere. It is also very heavy and will support a large GPU and cooler with no problem. They jam pack the box with every thing you could possibly need for this build. This is a high end board for people that have the money, time and expertise. It comes AI OC'd out of the box. You may need to turn of some of the stock settings for a more stable system. One, odd complaint that I have is the lack of internal USB 2.0 connectors. I needed five to finish my rig so I had to purchase an internal expander. Just weird that they give you way more than you need (including a thunderbolt card and a fan extender card) but not a USB expansion card. I read that some people were having an A2 error, I encountered this as well. Clear your
Cmos, if the problem persists use a different bios rev. Sometimes a driver can cause this as well. I really have no major complaints with this board and I highly recommend it for high end builds. Oh, one last thing for Asus...I wish that the error code display could change colors. But again, a very minor thing.

Sadly this board is an under performer. Even when it was running it was not doing my i9 10700K any favors. One night it was running and the next morning I started the PC and the start up screen stated OC'd 43%. I quickly shut it down and tried rebooting into BIOto see what was going on. It wouldn't enter BIOS. I finally got the OS up and downloaded the updated BIOS. Went through the steps and when it got to Do not turn off power or reset pcit hung. I waited for 45 mins and nothing happened. Tried restarting and it failed to do anything. It has been returned and at this point I will never purchase ROG. The GPU I have from them is garbage and so was the MB. Going back to MSI. BTW spend the extra $300 and go for the MSI MEG Godlike it smokes everything else!

This thing had a very noisy VRM, I can hear it above my fans at the opposite end of 90ish inch desk. Unbearable sound unless I crank up the headphone audio. This may not be as noisy if used with a lower end cpu, compared to the 10900k I am using. It also lacked more premium features you would expect in the price range. The onboard audio was acceptable, but not great, and there was no back plate. I loved the bios, but that was about it. The noise and boring audio quality drove me to try the gigabyte master, which is better quality at a lower price point. (And not nearly as noisy as this hero)

If you are wanting to build an awesome, liquid-cooled gaming PC and want the best of the best, buy this board. The board is heavy, but delivers with features. ASUS has really outdone themselves with one. Don't flinch at the price of the board, because with what you get and as many features crammed onto a liquid cooled board you will have boat loads of options. I have had mine for 2 months and not a single problem. Their packaging is awesome, so if you have never bought something from ROG ASUS you will be impressed. Asus spares no expense on marketing to make your experience a good one. They have top notch packaging and once you open it you will see what I mean. Also, the manual is very in depth, so if I could give it a 6 star I would. Thank you ASUS.

Built my first computer rig. Was trying to avoid H20 cooling.
Got a corsair i115 and it cools well; keeps below 40 and mostly runs at 32C even during extreme gaming.
BUT - Water Cooling is what this board was designed to do so I suppose you are paying a little extra for this feature.
If you want to air cool or use a contained water pump it works,
Love the OLED screen and RGBs.

Ramcache III thinks nvme ssd is a hdd but recognizes sata ssd, armory crate and aura sync are very buggy and incredibly sluggish/ freeze no matter how blazing fast the pc is. Great motherboard, bought it for the superior power delivery. Softwares from asus that are included with the motherboard however are unusable, I've tried 2 different argb devices on the mobo headers too and neither of those have worked. Customer support couldn't resolve the ramcache iii issue and told me I'd be contacted by different team to fix the issue and they never did. My experience with some asus customer support has been amazing, some have been lackluster. I highly recommend Asus, but things like this really make it hard to.

The only reason I didn't give all 5 Stars is that this board wasn't my first choice, but it has happily surprised me. If I really stretch for a negative I could say there are too many settings in BIOS/UEFI but then I'd have to add that each is automatically explained with a help/info popup. I am upset that it won't run Win7 properly but I knew that going in and anyway I'm on Linux 99% of the time and it's a speed demon there even with just an i5.... well, a 10600K but still, an i5. :)

First of all, this MB came already open so I'm sure someone else experienced the same issues I had. The motherboard would not stay shutdown. It kept rebooting itself without anyone touching the PC on random occasions. The M.2 drive placement is also terrible if you need to use all three slots. It barely supports one 2280 m.2 drive.
This does not have the build quality you should expect from a $500 MB. Sure the LED is a nice touch but I don't think I even looked at it once after installing it.
The only pro this has is the ASUS bios, so many options to overclock that it is extremely overkill for 95% of users.

This is simply probably the Best motherboard out their to buy that's below 400$ Amazing Bios seriously, you could spend days tinkering with it and tweaking different settings with it, has all the bells and Whistles one could possibly want, CMOS reset button on the back of the Motherboard, extermly good power delivery, and is I9 overclocking ready, granted I use it with a 10700k instead but still. In Summary if you want one of the best boards out they're and are going to go with Intel look no further this board is awesome!

Pairs very well with my i7 10700k and Aorus rtx 3080. Asus is a very reputable company. Motherboard feels well built, sturdy, and looks great. Built in WiFi and Bluetooth work very well. Make sure BIOS is up to date, as with all motherboards. BIOS is very easy to use with options to do just about anything. Definitely recommended.

I am always skeptical of buying expensive pc components online, because you never know how they are handled in transit. True to form the first one arrived broken and it wasn't until I had my entire pc put together that I was able to rule the motherboard as the issue. Having to take everything apart again, especially the processor is risky, so I was pretty upset. Thankfully, I was able to replace the motherboard in under 3 days, and the replacement works to this day.

Love the ASUS ROG Maximus XII Extreme Z490 (WiFi 6) LGA 1200(Intel 10th Gen) EATX Gaming Motherboard ,No complaints so far.
One thing I should say though is that it does not fit the NZXT H710i Case unfortunately,I thought it would but I had to buy a new case I really like my NZXT case but the MB was too big :(

He comprado este modelo debido a la buena conectividad que tiene y sobre todo para utilizarla conjuntamente con un ryzen 3 3700x.
Pros: Si vemos las características de la placa no le falta de nada. La iluminación aura está muy chula, el software de Asus te permite modificar la CPU, la RAM y el hardware. En general va muy bien toda la placa base (*)
Contras: De mano para ser una placa base Asus de gama Media-Alta debería de venir con chapa reforzada, con más de una conexión de sonda temperatura y la conexión de audio digital no está optimizada
He tenido que devolver 2 placas debido a que no les funcionaba el adaptador wifi (Concretamente no aparecía ni en administrador de dispositivos (Ni ocultos) ni adaptadores de red, desde la BIOS aparece como habilitado pero ni las compilaciones 1909,1903,1803,1809, ni instalando los controladores viejos del DVD ni los nuevos desde la web de Asus o desde el software de Armoury Crate (No he podido acceder nunca al adaptador wifi de ninguna de las maneras)
** Me he puesto en contacto con el soporte técnico de Asus y no me han dado solución (Que devuelva la placa)

He instalado Windows 10 Pro Compilación 1809 (Marzo 2019) sin internet, y Windows me ha detectado el adaptador wifi (Intel R Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz), cosa que con las versiones más nuevas nunca lo hizo.
A partir de ahí actualice mediante Windows Update y el software de Armoury Crate (Asus) pero no instalo la compilación 1903 o 1909 que me da problemas de que no existe el adaptador wifi.
Está avisado el soporte técnico de Asus que próximamente lo solucionaran (Hay personas que sí les funciona), pero esto es para los que tiene el problema del adaptador o pantallazos azules debido a esto

He instalado Windows 10 Pro Compilación 1809 (Marzo 2019) sin internet, y Windows me ha detectado el adaptador wifi (Intel R Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz), cosa que con las versiones más nuevas nunca lo hizo.
A partir de ahí actualice mediante Windows Update y el software de Armoury Crate (Asus) pero no instalo la compilación 1903 o 1909 que me da problemas de que no existe el adaptador wifi.
Está avisado el soporte técnico de Asus que próximamente lo solucionaran (Hay personas que sí les funciona), pero esto es para los que tiene el problema del adaptador o pantallazos azules debido a esto
*** Vuelve a desaparecer el adaptador wifi, es un problema de hardware no del S.O ni del software.
Bastantes personas han reportado que no les funciona, mismo problema, una lástima he tenido que devolverla
