Acquired on PRE-ORDER, received on Date of Release.
There has been many discussions as either to call it a reduced IPad or a glorified IPod Touch / IPhone. I can say from experience, as I have all of the three other items as well ... It is not fair to classify this item as either.
Yes, it is true it is an intermediate size in between the 4-5 inch Touch-Phone and the 9 inch Pad. But with exception to certain other characteristics, it is for a class of its own. The pod/phone can't really be considered feasible for VIDEO Entertainment. For that the PAD is the only really feasible unit.
Now, if I already have the big pad, why would I go for the mini as well, ... In summary .... Portability .... Plain and simple. I take it and stick it in my back or side pocket of the 24-7's or the inner pocket of a jacket .... And it is like unnoticeable. That's one thing I couldn't do with my regular IPad.
Would I prefer the mini to the regular ... For communications and browsing and book reading ( for which I consider the 4/5 inch Pod and Phone way too small) sure, it is fine. But I still hold on to my IPad 2 for video entertainment, because, as Jobs put it, "for that purpose, anything less than a 10" unit is too small.".
For regular users, I suggest a SCREEN PROTECTOR, and a HARD CASE, preferably with screen cover as well.
But in summary, a highly recommended item... You won't regret it.

I had high hopes for this mini. The charging port broke after three months and it died. It was too expensive to fix it. Good luck.

Great purchase. I took it with me on a trip to Europe. It takes awesome pictures. Wish I had ordered it earlier.

Great size, great memory, love it! I use my iPad so much more than I thought I would. Fits in my bag, so I take it with me, very convenient!

I was not sure whether or not to purchase this first generation IPAD without the retina display. Since I was able to get 64gb (apparently this is no longer available in the first generation model) I figured it was worth a try at the 350.00 price point. I am not disappointed!!! This is an amazing tablet and I can't wait to take it with me to Europe with all of the interactive maps I have downloaded. It will be really nice to have help getting around a strange place.

I recently added the iPad mini to my Qosmio laptop, my ACER netbook and the Garmin Nuvi 52LM. I went on a trip and took the iPad instead of the netbook. The iPad kept me company and was a worthwhile companion. I have since replaced my basic cell phone with an LG Optimus II. I find that the the LG actually does a better gps job of giving me information as I walk around. The gps locator on the iPad is surprisingly inaccurate. Also, except for being able to read Kindle books, I use the LG over the iPad. Finally, for walking around a city, the Garmin is quite useful in terms of showing gps location, giving walking directions and information on local points of interest. So, for the next trip to NYC I will take the iPad, the Garmin and the LG. If the iPad's gps accuracy was as good as the Garmin's and the LG's I would have given 5 starts.

I bought this as a gift for my wife(without asking her). It arrived without fanfare or applause. I set it up for her so all she had to do was turn it on and go to it.
She has an iPhone and is very familiar with the Apple ecosystem.
We kept it for 5 days and then sent it back. We couldn't find any reason that we would need to spend $400 on a larger iPhone. Yes the screen is beautiful but it's not giving her anything that the iPhone isn't already.
I suppose if I had given it proper thought I would have saved the time and energy on returns.
It's a nice device and it has panache. It's a really hard sell unless you know you have an app that you can't live without and want the status of buying the fruit company.

I bought it, despite the fact of thinking that perhaps it was too small a tablet, but once I held it in my hand I realised it's size is perfect!
Functionality: impecable!
One thing I'm not enjoying as much is the auto-sync with iPhone and iCloud... I like keeping different apps and files on the iPhone than those on the iPad, but haven't quite managed to do this just yet.
Still, I love the iPad mini. Great multi-functionality tablet.

As in a lot of house holds, I'm sure, our daughters both had an iPad long before either of the parents! LOL I decided to get an iPad Mini for my wife for our wedding anniversary. As expected, she LOVES it.
I went back and forth between this one and another model. This one has a faster processor speed but the other one was 32 gigs (twice as much storage as this one). After considering how she will "mostly" use it (going to a few favorite apps and watching Netflix), I decided that the faster processor would be more useful. Sure, she will take pics with it, but you can always transfer pics to a computer in order to free up space if it's needed. That's a lot easier fix than making your processor faster!

I love the smaller size of the mini, it's easier to hold and handle. I rarely ever need to use a computer anymore, can't imagine living without my iPad now that I have one!

It is exactly what you would get from Apple itself. The first one I ordered came damaged in the mail with a sizable dent on one side but I was able to easily get a refund from Amazon and order a new one that came in perfect condition. It is an amazing product; I even prefer it to the full sized iPad for my personal use as a student who uses it as an e-reader.

I bought this for someone's birthday.
It was very disappointing; this item never worked, even after 12+ hours of charging.
It was dead on arrival so I sent it back and got a refund.
I did buy another (64GB) for the birthday girl; it works just fine.

The ipad mini trumps the standard ipad in my opinion, it is lighter and fits better in my hands. It is expensive but with Apple products you tend to have to pay for the brand.

I am happy with this Ipad. Keeps things simple for my kids. It's not the newer model, but it does the trick. We only use it for a few applications and use of the Internet.

I've had my iPad mini for about four months now and I absolutely love it! I decided to go with the smaller storage and get the Retina display and it was absolutely worth it. I never go anywhere with out it! I use it for reading, games, and browsing the web. I also use it regularly in my classroom. It was an absolutely necessary investment. My parents had gotten me the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and it ran so slow and I absolutely hated it. I sold it to a family member and put the money towards this and couldn't be more pleased!

Android, Nook, Kindle, Surface, Asus... My husband likes buying gadgets and in the last 18 months we went through as many tablets, but we liked none of them. Finally, he gave up and bought me an iPad mini 2, and we both LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Only regret is we should have bought a 32GB or 64GB model, maybe with cellular, but we only had limited funds. Will be saving up for a higher model and let the kids have this one. The iPad mini is just so much better than everything else. Sorry, Amazon! I love Amazon but even the latest Kindle fire is UGLY and very difficult to use. All Android tablets are boring and susceptible to viruses. The iPad mini gives a consistent experience. I just wish the App Store had a grid listing view like on Windows 8. Other than that my iPad mini connects to WiFi every time and maximizes the speed, unlike the other tablets. The screen is totally the best! I play Amazon videos and they've never looked better. The kids love it, too, and wonder why we waited so long to get a "real tablet" in their words as opposed to those low-quality imitators.

I love iPads period so there really is nothing to be said. Unfortunately my last one that I gave to my daughter had touch screen issues due to either a faulty screen or my installation either way i was fed up and broke down and bought my daughter a new one. I tried to talk her into a samsung galaxy as those are nice as well but nope couldn't get the girl to accept that one. What can i say pretty much once u get a iPad i think you automatically just fall in love with them and dont want any other brand.

My first Apple Product. As an experienced "PC" person I was surprised by the outstanding quality, especially the camera's. The very intuitive way the device features worked was delightful and very easy and quick to learn. The only minor negative was having to load Itunes on my PC in order to upload pictures and video. I now understand why Apple Products, although obviously pricy, are so well liked.
