But for more punchy output you need to set manually ,
And so it's a clear value fort money
When your viewing still images, then fine, but reading text while scrolling, or moving images and gameplay is just awful.
I managed to snag an Amazon Warehouse "Used - Like New" on this, snapped it up straight away and eagerly awaited my order. It was delivered 2 days later so I took the through to my man cave, made myself a brew then proceeded to open the box, only to realise that I had also fallen victim to this whole mix-up between the flat and curved versions.
Saying that, these are identical otherwise. So, as the box was already opened, I took it out set it up, and it was as described (apart from the lack of curve), but I was still rather peeved that an Amazon Warehouse product, which is meant to be fully checked, was still the wrong item. I paid for the curved variant, so, off to customer services I go. After a friendly suggestion of a partial refund for such a mix-up, I've ended up with a fantastic monitor that was around £100 off the RRP (15% partial refund off the used price I paid)
So, my rating is for the monitor, not amazons mix-up. Although, I think AOC should be making the differences between the two models a bit more obvious. The box only seems to have the flat versions model number on it though.
Fantastic monitor, after playing about with the settings a little, I've got it the way I want it. There is very light smearing compared to my old 24 inch TN panel, but with this being a VA that's to be expected, but it's the best VA panel I've seen (just remember to set overdrive to "Strong").
The stand is kinda flimsy due to it being plastic, but once it's set into position i'll very rarely be moving it so that's not a problem.
No dead pixels, everything working as it should so far after all the usual monitor tests you can do via software.
I'm really happy with it, just wish it was the curved variant, but for the price I paid, I'm very happy.
Monitor 4/5 Stars
Amazons warehouse overlooking proper product serial numbers 2/5
Hope this helps someone, just be careful and if you take the plunge, expect to receive the wrong monitor. Errors are easy with this product and we're all humans at the end of the day.
You have the wrong infomation on your website about it
The image quality is very good with good range of colours, very sharp images and detail and depth in the blacks. Looks great for movies, games, reading and coding. The 2k / 1440p resolution is perfect for this size screen.
The stand is excellent allowing height and tilt adjustment. It even supports mounting in portrait mode.
I have since replaced this with a desk arm (it supports VESA mount) to hold 2 screens to free up desk space and to have them aligned without books propping up my second screen.
Note it comes with a Displayport cable and HDMI. To get the most from this monitor definitely use the DP cable and if you only have a mini display port get a mini-dp to dp cable. The HDMI cable is only capable of about 60hz at 2k and 120hz at 1080p. DP cable can get you full 144hz at 2k.
This monitor has good brightness and contrast, not amazing but then not £200-400 more expensive then alternatives. its response rate is perfectly fine for work and nothing to complain with games, i dont have the means to test colour output or accuracy but i would say its largely irrelevant for what i use it for, which is mostly work (excel based) and games, initial inspection suggests the green and blue is out but since you need to remove some of the blue for work anyway its fine. Compared to my 29in IPS screen which was initially calibrated until i had to reduce the brightness and blues for work, i cant see any obvious difference, for most people i would expect this to be similar.
I did need to knock down the brightness somewhat as it was giving me a headache, i reduced this to about 40
Used Gamma3 and colour temp set to user, i reduced green by about 6 points
Overdrive set to medium and reading mode set to internet, ecomode set to standard, gamemode off.
The curve which ive heard quite a few people moan about is absolutely fine if your sitting the normal distance from a monitor, in fact, id say that an 1800 at a normal distance on a desk i has a negligible effect, this 1500 is feels like a great compromise, if you were seated slightly further away and the monitor was on a wall, this might be a different story. Like wise, if this were a 3 monitor setup for surround gaming, its probably a bit too curved.
For work in particular, i find it pleasing and a dream to work with, for gaming, i find it immersive without being too fishbowl when sitting on a desk at a typical distance from the screen.
overall, i give it a big thumbs up, i would question the logic of getting the G-Sync Version unless you have something more powerful than a 1080ti, you will not be pushing 21:9 at 1440p at 144Hz unless you drop the settings, my 1060 plays most games with highish settings at about 40-60fsp, getting the 144 for me was pointless, that said, if you have a 1080 or a 2080 then yeah, go for it, but anything less than a 1070, forget it, save the cash and get a better GPU down the road that will max out the 100Hz on this
Thankfully I have a DPD receipt for the pick-up but am still waiting for my refund from Box and I bought it over a week ago.
For instance, I am using a Mac and the driver CD that comes with the monitor has only a PC version of the driver. Nothing for Mac. You may think; ok I'll go to the AOC website and get one.
Wrong!! The website is not working, or non existant. Neither Safari nor Chrome can find it.
I don't know if it is a temporary thing but it definitely does not work. Awkward!
Ah! I forgot if you want to use it with your mac you need a video type-c connector.
The monitor comes with a couple of HDMI cables. So you definitely need an adaptor to use it with the Type-C connectors of a new MacBook Pro.
Sturdy stand, height adjustment and angle adjustment
Nice black levels, good colour reproduction for media consumption
27' is a suitable size
Has build in speakers(don't expect anything decent though)
Thin bezels
144Hz on 1440p
Comes with display port and HDMI cables
Has a headphone jack behind it
Cons:
Lacks monitor rotation
No HDR
Doesn't come with the USB cable for the USB hub so you will need to buy a separate cable if you want to use that
Brightness isn't as high as other monitors, only 250cd, but plenty for indoor use, except when there is direct sunlight
Some response time issue but not too noticable if you turn overdrive to Strong
OSD can be hard to control at times
TLDR; Fantastic monitor, colours as accurate as my previous Samsung panel 10/10 would recommend, only downer would be the low brightness, but if it doesn't bother you, nothing in this monitor would.
