The table top stand could be a lot more secure with a bigger spread of support legs as it seems a bit top heavy. The remote control and extension cable although a satisfactory length for most applications, would inspire more confidence in a much heavier guage of cable. I'm concerned that it could be easily damaged by a bad stretch or a pinch.

I am extremely impressed with the Zoom H2N. I have owned other Zoom audio recorders: H1, H2, H4, H4N. I've also owned Tascam DR-05, DR-08, Sony PCM-M10, Edirol R44, and Fostex FR-2 LE audio recorders. I am both a musician and videographer and for the price of the H2N, it is BY FAR the most versatile audio utility device I have ever owned (until the next latest and greatest technology comes out).
As a videographer/Indie filmmaker, I got the H2N because:
*It has 20hrs of battery life - longest of all Zoom recorders to date.
*The user interface is well designed and easy to adjust during shooting. I love the analog gain wheel.
*It has a REMOTE port (remote comes with accessory pack).
*Internal mics & preamp are super crisp, amazing quality up to 96kHz/24bit Wave. Great for room tone or foley.
*Doubles as USB microphone for Skype, iChat, Logic Pro, Garageband, etc. I'll use to record voice over for my videos.
**The H2N can record both external mic input AND onboard mics at the same time in multitrack mode. Similar to Zoom H4N.
If you already own an H4N, you might still want the H2N to add to your gear. It's a different type of tool. If you absolutely need XLR inputs for everything you do, then don't bother getting the H2N. BUT if there are times when you only need to capture ambient audio, or only use a 3.5mm wireless lav or 3.5mm stereo Rode mic, then I strongly recommend the H2N. It's a better tool for those types of situations.
As a musician, I got the H2N because:
*I wanted to record my band rehearsals and some of my gigs. Put this in the middle of the room, picks up the whole band.
*Has built in Tuner, Metronome, slow playback with pitch control -- so I can learn bass lines by slowing down music.
*I use it for Logic Pro 9 to record vocals. Also makes a great mic for quick demos.
*The Zoom can convert files in the recorder. Converts 4 track to stereo, Wave to MP3, etc.
The few negatives:
-The mics are too sensitive to wind. I don't understand why they couldn't build a windscreen INTO the mic frame.
-The tripod mount is plastic and will wear out over time.
-It's a little too thick to actually put in your pocket. Definitely less portable than the older H2.
If you are a musician, indie filmmaker, or event videographer and you want better audio for your projects, GET THE ZOOM H2N. You also definitely need the purchase the Accessory Pack.

Has many features that will take time to get familiar with. The recordings are clear and the range is good. Not too hard to figure how to use it. Instructions are quite precise.

I just love this unit! Have tried using a voice-only hand-held recorder for music-- terrible! This unit gives me excellent sound quality, is easy to use, and has a lot of features that I've only just begun to explore and use! I started using it right away, right out of the box, and am greatly pleased w/ its performance. I'm no expert at recording, but this unit sure is a great little recorder for voice, music, performances, and just about anything you can imagine wanting to record!

to set up a home studio , you need a mic ,mixer, compresses , pc - the h2n is all in one - so for the convenience sake its worth it, and also you don't have to deal with noise coming form the pc (fan) - the only bad thing is that the recording quality is little less that the setup mentioned before. this is the best personal recorder i bought, the reason for the 3 stars is that i got a the device but the screen will not display anything. i had to use it for an audio book project, so i managed to record without the display, i placed xy mic to gain 7 and the result was OK . I'm really disappointed because i got this device for 120 ad i had to return in :(

I hate to give it such a low rating because the recorder was awesome for the couple times I used it. It fell off my desk onto the flexible vinyl chair runner beneath my desk, about 3 feet. Didn't land too hard so I wasn't all that worried about it. Wouldn't boot up so I figured the batteries must have died and I swapped them out. Nope, DOA, Dead. Seriously ??

We do a lot of recording of choir music and our old hand held recorders were just not good enough. The H2N and accessory kit is incredible. The software was not great and I ended up purchasing a different one. Highly recommend this product in combination with the accessories.

I use the case as a holder for the device when I'm recording on-the-go with an attached clip on mic by Sony (ECMCS3). I love the grip, as it enables me to use my mini boom stick with the H2n. The remote has a decently long wire, and helps immensely when conducting interviews as you can control everything without needing to be right next to your device. The mic foam improves audio quality. The power adapter and the mini tripod are the few things I haven't used yet... It's overall pretty good.
I do wish some of these things came with the initial Zoom H2n purchase though. It's a worthy buy in my book.

I bought this primarily for the charger and remote. Based on other reviews I didn't expect much from the other items but I was surprised. The case is nice, holds the recorder, tripod, windscreen and all cables well. The little tripod is handy for table top use. The windscreen is better than nothing! Biggest surprise was the mic clip adapter. The H2n won't fit on a standard mic stand without a small adapter (smaller than the Shure type which is all I have). The adapter in this kit actually works really well and I use it all the time. Just screw it onto the recorder and plug it onto the mic clip.

I love this little recorder!!! For months, I had been looking for a cost-effective way to record practices/performances with several of the small bands I play with. This device is unbelievably simple to use and has very good sound quality. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a hand-held portable music recording device.

I have owned the H2 in the past and was a great recorder but it got dropped because I forgot to close my camera bag and had to buy a new one but as I looked online I found that Zoom now has the H2n out so I thought I would give it a try. I film alot of rock bands and on the H2 I would set the manual settings and sounded great but the H2n has automatic settings and was sceptical at first so I set the auto setting to concert and set the side dial to zero then ran my cable fron the H2n to my Canon g2 camcorder and it sounded great and no clipping. This is a must buy.

I love my H2n. My band has been using it to record our practices for the past four months, and its been a great tool for us to improve.
We're a pretty loud retro metal band, but the gain control on the mic lets us record without clipping issues. The sound is remarkably clear and doesn't really need to be EQ'd; you hear what the sound in the room was.
I'm not in love with the menu system on the device itself, but I really don't need to use it that much. It's pretty much plug and play.
My only complaint is that the accessories pack is pretty much required.

Well described and well packaged. Doesn't come with UK plug but this doesn't really detract from the overall value. Well made accessories and the case will really protect your recorder

First off: you want the accessories pack. And, yes, that sucks because it costs more money and, yes, that sucks because that's lying to you about how much it actually costs to really experience everything this product has to offer; but, you want it. Next: this thing does everything you could ever want a recorder to do. It's got ms and xy in 4chan and 2chan modes, that's worth over 9000 stars if you ask me. Other than that, it's very easy to use: really it's just 4 buttons to do anything else but record, that is, the menu system has up, down, back, and select. Easy. Next thing that's awesome is the software: super-cool in my own opinion but, that will be something else for you to decide. Last, stars: 1 for it looking like a microphone, 2 for the nice display and menus, 3 for all the in/outputs, and 4 for how much functionality the accessories add, but not 5 stars because the accessories cost extra and they should just be included for $150.

Windscreen, case and tripod alone make this a very useful purchase. The case is a perfect size, the zoom fits in nicely while still leaving just enough room for a pair of earbuds if necessary.

It has a very very sensitive microphone where clear sounds can be picked up over 50 feet away. It is great for recording a tour guides's narration while on a bus trip or while walking with a large group, while the tour guide point out points of interest.
The only accessory missing is a strap that could hold the recorder around my neck while I'm taking pictures. Until I figure out a scheme to do this, I usually place the recorder in my top shirt pocket.
