Good:
- Mounts on camera tripod
- Excellent stereo sound (although I'm no professional)
- Records very very long time on one set of batteries
Bad:
- None!
I wish it had...
- IR remote control or app for phone to control it remotely.
- rubberized outer skin for grip and protection.
I would recomend it for anyone who's looking for a recorder for gigs or practice.
Like:
- different record formats and directions;
- presets for autogain levels;
- player and converter, metronome and tuner;
- ergonomics (buttons, menus, etc.);
- one rec/stop button;
- quick start and ready to work (2-3 seconds);
- longtime work with standard AAA batteries (I think, more than 6 hours continuous recording);
- USB interface and SD-card;
- usb-microphone for computer;
- external line in/out.
And the most important for me. It does not need any preparations before use - just turn on and play. This is very useful for recording musical drafts and ideas.
I tested it indoors and outdoors, in room and in a church, recorded instruments: classical guitar, violin, accordion, blockflute, harmonica, organ. Quality of sound is very good for a microphone of such size.
Bottom line is if your only using 2 people for commentary with nobody behind them it works great. You can set it to only pick up audio on their side. It doesn't pick up any of the sounds on the other side of the mic (fans or wrestlers). We were very pleased with the quality.
However, if a single person stands behind the mic withing 8 feet you can pick up their noise. Not like its a bad thing... It could actually be quite useful. But in our situation it stunk. The fan was very explicit and it killed part of the audio...
Overall I like this mic and will continue to use it until I outgrow it or it dies.
cons: its a little large.
BTW, the H2 accessory is shipped with the wrong accessories package. Mine said it was for the H1, which is a more narrow device. So the nice case will not fit the H2. The pieces will be duplicates, as they come with the H2n. The H2n case is excellent and its fits well.
I have a photography Podcast ([...]) and I am interested in doing field interviews, and needed quality audio recordings. I have used it several times and the quality is excellent. I like the look and features.
The play back speakers are weak, but then again they are not made for that. It is only to spot check your audio content. The best thing is to use ear phones to monitor the input and output audio.
What I don't like is the SD door slot. Its better than the H2, which broke off immediately on day one. The H2n slot is made of rubber not plastic like the H2. However it is difficult to pry open and insert or eject the SD card. I can see that SD door hatch breaking off eventually. The other negative is the enclosed "free" Wavelab LE 7 software. It is not made to work on Apple OS systems. Although it saids it does, it does not work. It looks like a promising audio application but it does not work at all after it was installed. I downloaded the latest update and it still does not work. Inside the Wavelab LE7 notes it states that it might not work on Apple OS systems. So why market it as an extra when it won't work with Apple computers. I was curious about the WaveLab LE7 product, but I will never know. I use Adobe Soundbooth CS5, it does everything I need and more.
Happy with H2n, great product, very high quality results for my purposes. I would trade the H2 for another H2n. I would highly recommend the H2n. Thanks Amazon.
The audio it records sounds exactly the way it does when listening live: excellent.
i highly recommend. That being said, I am no audiophile.
The package is good, but not the little tripod. I did a small review with some sound samples at my Youtube channel. Yes it is in German, but you have the sound samples so I thing the language does not matter much. Just look for: Stephans Bilderwelt there is also a test of the Røde video stereo Pro Mic. Hope you like it.

That's why I felt that this is literally old fashioned way:
this product is functioned by only the couple of buttons up and down multiple times in order to look up what I want to do...that is what I do NOT like. Considering the fact that i need to record numerous times of my performance of my instrument in my daily practice, it is a big hassle for me.
Besides, the built-in speaker produces too small sound to listen to.
I cannot distinguish the subtle quality of my recording, so I had to use earpieces or I had to connect to the better speaker, which
is another hassle every time to listen after recording.
If I knew this fact, I would not buy it because I bought this
for built-in speaker function to use more easily because
I have already had old fashioned way recorder like this one.
The battery life on the new model is huge. With the previous model I was always checking to see how far I had left. Now I don't worry about it.
The "bundle" also extremely helpful.
It took me several tries to figure out how to switch from record mode to play back mode, but it's really simple, once you get the hang of it. I'm still learning the audio editing software that comes with the Zoom H2n, but it seems to have a lot of capability.
Overall, I'm really happy with the purchase, and I'll get a lot of use out of this recorder.
