I've used several different digital recorders and this one is top notch. For being a small, handheld recording device, this little recorder has incredible sound. It is extremely easy to use. It has some very nice recording features. It has different mic pickups and omni directional options. It has an external speaker for easy playback. I highly recommend this recorder. It's incredible.

We purchased three Zoom Recorders for my office, but they did not come with the case or the USB adapter, so we purchased three of these accessory packs. The price is good for everything you receive. The case is a hard case, so I can just throw the recorder into my briefcase and it is well-protected. The USB adapter is great for those long days of recording.

Easy to use, great recording quality, outstanding automatic gain adjustment, 16 GB SD card very useful.
Software that came with it wasn't great, but other free, online software options are easy to use with it.

Great item. BUT the threading for the tripod is very weak and cracks easily. I had it for 6 weeks and it cracked. I called the company and they say warranty doesn't cover physical damage, so good luck

This is a great kit with many useful parts.
The remote control (with extension) makes it easy to start/stop the recorder without adding the 'handling noise' when recording. Saves me time when editing multiple recordings.
The wind screen doesn't kill all wind noise, but cuts it back substantially. A better screen or 'dead kitten' cover may be necessary in windy outdoor conditions, but light breeze and air noise from moving around indoors is cut.
The case is great, but does not fit the unit well with the windscreen attached - carrying the windscreen around separately is a drag. It has a nice detachable carry strap, though, which is nice. I also wish there were an elastic pocket inside for holding an extra memory card or the remote.
The mic stand piece is great for holding the recorder on a typical microphone stand, and can be used for simple holding of the recorder without touching it. (reduces handling noise a bit, too)
The mini tripod is pretty cheap, and the legs cannot extend far enough to support the recorder if the ball head is angled very steeply. I think I can maybe get 10 or 15 degrees pitch in any given direction, but beyond that, the tripod will tip over. It comes in handy for vertical orientation now and then, but is largely useless otherwise.
The power supply comes in handy, but most of us have these USB cables & adapters in spades at home already.
Personally, I would rather have paid less and eliminated the tripod and USB cable + power adapter, but I've used them once-or-twice, so ... eh. The primary parts of this kit are great, though, so they make it worth the price.

I bought this to record my voice lessons and it's amazing! The sound is so clear and the setting to adjust the microphone frequency works great when I start singing extremely high!

I must say that after using the H2n for an indie movie I'm putting together, I really love using this Zoom device. Great, crisp quality audio and easy to use.
I'd recommend using Duracell batteries in your Zoom device, as speaking to other people who regularly use sound devices for a living, they say that Duracell batteries increase the quality of recording a fraction more.
I attach my Zoom device on the end of a monopod and use it as a boom pole. Then using the front directional recorders I just tilt the front of the Zoom H2n downward above actors or twist it either way to pick up dialogue between 2 actors talking together. When you buy a boom pole your H2n should just fit right on it. Take your H2n into the store just to check first. You can also use the monopod as a steady cam and do other neat stuff with your video camera mounted on it.

The thumbwheel on my recorder began to lock up whenever I moved it up with less than 3 days of use. I was on vacation so I could not return it to Amazon, as I shipped all my audio and video gear ahead and back by ground services.
When I got home, I got an RA number from the Zoom service representative, which is Samson Tech of Hauppage NY.
The person giving me the RA number stated the MINIMUM turn-around time is 7-8 weeks. (over 2 months with shipping)
I am going to see if my credit card company has a perk to replace this broken unit. 2 months for a $180 piece of consumer gear is terrible support.

Ends up, the only thing I've used was the windscreen & the case. The handle makes a lot of handling noise. I tried applying some foam rubber & it still is noisy.

With the right settings, professional quality recording can be attained from this Zoom model, i.e., crisp, clear natural sounds down to whispers and cricket level.
There are only two things that make this recorder deserve a 4.5 rather than 5 star rating.
First, there are only two buttons used for recording and managing recordings, namely the Menu and the Play buttons. Because these are the only buttons used for practically everything, they are "overworked" and through time they will surely wear out faster and earlier than other designs that have multiple supportive function buttons.
The other thing is the Wavelab LE7 audio editing and mastering software made by Steinberg for this particular Zoom model is probably a give-away laboratory sample. Just as Steinberg described, it is far (about 85%) from the professional software. It shows the editing basics to learn from and that's all. Use it to edit your recording and the edited record would be like you made your recordings in the middle of a bustling huge building construction site!
To edit and make a perfect recording using this almost perfect recorder, keep on recording, playing back and deleting until the record is perfect enough to your satisfaction.

This is not very well made. The Menu button is a hassle. I wish they would have added one more button, because i have to keep turning my H2n off and then starting it again to reset it. I think every video review mention the PLAY button. Why on earth they did not do a better job designing this is beyond my understanding. I don't feel like doing an acrobatic act with my thumb every time I use this thing, but it looks like there is no way but to do so. It is almost always frustrating to use.

-I was surprised, the packaging was not accurate. The handy recorder package was bossed, saddle-backed on top side. Maybe it was packed in a hurry.
-Then accessory box looks like also was packed in rush. Contents in that box was just pressed & squished. And all excitement on my face become serious. At least product was not damaged by that.
-Of course I WILL recommend your product to others, I know you, guys, can pack it accurately. That previous order was packed perfectly, I loved it.
-So, generally it was packed OKay this time. Accuracy is important for a customer.

The sound quality is just amazing. Years ago, I had a whole rack mount setup to get the same performance as I get from this little recorder. I have been using this with the accessory set which includes a small tripod and a wired remote for hitting record.
Once you have a good level this is kind of set it and forget it.

I have to say I really wanted to like it but it still does not compared to the quality of other portable recorders I have. I do really like the style of it but it just doesn't have the audio quality I would want. I've tried playing with settings but I can never get it compare to other recorders.

This is a great ambient recording unit, fanatics and 'pros' will say, but some 'pros' would say it does a great job for interviews too. Just make sure you have a good windscreen if there's a breeze at all and saving in WAV format may help too. With the right adapters, you can easily split the left-right sides for playback. A great little all-around unit for the price and design!

This is a handy little unit with lots of options. Also some good software to work with your recordings. There is a lot to learn but it you have a bit of computer savvy in you it works right out of the box. I have quite a while before I am expert with it though. My only con of this purchase is it doesn't charge itself. You need alkaline batteries or rechargeable. But you have to do it externally. Beside that I have used it numerous times and am quite happy with it.

Well, first of all, I do love this recorder! But, it lacks easy instructions on how to operate the device. This is all new to me, and I really need easy-to-read info on how to get started ... the basics, please! Finally figured out how to have zoom add a date to my recordings. Sadly, I leave it on the current settings and just hit record because I can't figure out ALL IT CAN DO! If I knew how to easily navigate this device, I'm sure I would be doing more. So, for me, it is a basic recorder, not easy to figure out, but it does a good job. I use this to record my daughter's weekly radio show. I plug it into one of the headphone jacks in the "news" recording studio, which is directly linked to the on-air studio.

The recording quality of this device is great, and I love its built-in compressor, limiter, lo-cut filter, auto-gain, etc. What I don't like is its cheap-like plasticky body, unlike the Zoom H1 and Tascam DR-05 portable digital recorders, which don't look so easily breakable. Also, H2n doesn't offer unidirectional mono for the MS setting to use it in dedicated voice overs. The left and right side mics always catch echo even in sound booths, which makes H2n perfect for taking group interviews or surround sound effects and maybe concerts. Other than that, this a great device, yet I need something stronger and with mono option as well, because I do a lot of voice overs on-the-go. Of course, I could plug in an external mono lavalier mic, but that's a hassle and the sound frequency won't match whatever would be recorded with the on-board mics. Well, these are the only (minor) reasons why I give it 5 out of 6 stars. THX

I've had this device for one year. I have recorded about 20 live shows at various venues with great success. This recorder does a fantastic job for live music. Battery life is amazing. Added bonus is the shape and size of the H2n. When I need to get into a venue that has no recording, I leave my cell phone in the car and act like the Zoom H2n is my phone. I hold it in my hand with my keys while security wands me and off I go!

This is the 3rd Zoom I have owned, and it is a great one. The addition of a remote control is very welcome, but I wish it were wireless.
