Love Love Amazon.com always made me feel good when there is something wrong with my order, If you bought on amazon and then suddenly stock is gone, they do their best to work out with you or give you Amazon store credit, How's that! Not like tigerdirect and circuitcity, my friend works there, he said those website really plan to actually made price lower by mistake so when you order and then they will email you to cancel the order, the purpose is to keep people visiting their site. Amazon is a different thing they even pay you if they made a mistake sweet!Ok about the review, I got this drive and installed it and format it using DiskPart on dos mode to avoid the automatic system hidden partition, make 2 partition on it one 350gb and 2nd is the remainder of the drive space, my MOBO support 6gbs sata 3, I didn't use raid or achi, I just use the IDE default setting on my MOBO, this thing is like the low end SSD I did a test using HD TUNE PRO. Mine reads in the range of 150-184mbps. Write speed is a little slower 130-150mbps which is a plus because most SSD have 250mbps read speed but write speed is usually 75mpbs, like the one I have on my laptop.As far as I lived my life I will say WESTERN DIGITAL IS THE WORST Customer service I had ever encountered, When you call full of robots answering and took 15-30mins to reach a human being on the line just to tell you we have so many call right now and can you give me your number where we can contact you so we can call you back TOMORROW! I was like REALLY? Tomorrow?! It was 9am in the morning and you will call me back TOMORROW, and he said there's nothing we can do sit at least we are honest!!! Wow SWEET HONEST. LMAO. I called again after 2 hours lol same thing a lady CSR said they will call me TOMORROW, oh well I let go and don't want to waste my time, to end the story short they called me after 2 days when I was in my work, and told me I need to be home so they can help me. WTH never again will I buy another WESTERN DIGITAL PRODUCT thy sucks. But AMAZON has nothing to do with that problem. LOVE AMAZON FREE SHIPPING AND FREE RETURNS.

HD came in a box with nothing else. Had no trouble installing in my new build, connected SATA cable to mother board and connected power. Thats all their was to it, worked immediately, still working. I have had several WD Hard dirves, all have been good.

My WD Caviar Blue died after only four months. I put in a WD Caviar Black in another slot about a year ago that is still working well, so I guess I'll replace the blue with a black. I know these things happen to hard drives, and I am completely backed up, but a four-month lifespan is a disappointment.

Великолепно

I was going to pick up a slower version of this drive from my local Fry's, which usually has decent prices. But after seeing this deal, I decided I had to get it. It arrived quickly, installed easily, and worked flawlessly and quietly. Of course the real rating of a drive is how long it lasts, and my previous experience with Western Digital has been great.

Got great service, as usual from Amazon. Ordered it one day and got it the next for only $21.90. However, I am concerned about the Drive. It makes a noise at start up and at times when it appears that it has to move a large distance. I wish I could describe the noise -but- I can not think of the proper words. It is NOT a grinding sound, more like a stretching sound... like errrrrppppt. I have also had a couple of mishaps on the start up. These required a re-boot. Again, however, I have a dual boot system... and the second one is the latest openSuSE 12.1 release. So further testing and analysis is needed to determine whether -or- not I received a defective drive. Other than that it is great and IF it needs to be replaced I will ask for the same thing ... only a properly working one.

I purchased several of these drives to use as spares for servers that had the previous generation SATA II 3.0 Gb/sec WD3200AAKS drive. Well as luck would have it, I've had some failures of those old ones and went to replace them, only this drive was not recognized by the computer. After a day of digging, turns out there is a buggy Intel SATA II controller out there in many makes and models of computers that does not properly interact with this particular drive, causing the drive to remain at the 6.0 Gb/sec interface speed and the controller at 3.0 Gb/sec; i.e. no communication possible.The fix is to place a jumper across pins 5 and 6 which will force the drive to SATA II speeds and make it show up. Unfortunately it doesn't come with any jumpers, so hopefully you have an old computer lying around you can steal one out of.The same article on WD's site that gave me the fix also said it was possible to perform this fix using a software program they offer called WDSpeed but they refused to give me a copy for some reason and said I had to go buy some jumpers.

I want a large hard drive for my lab computer which I used to store and process a lot of data. I have tried one hard drive before and I have to return it because I am worried about its noise. This product doesn't have this problem and the price is reasonable. There is no delay for the delievery date.

I like this hard drive. I ordered the 500GB version of it. Not really much to say except it gets a 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index. Also it doesn't come with a SATA cable, but then again, my motherboard did.The bottom line is it's a good 500GB SATA III hard drive for the price.

I got complacent and held off on buying a new hard drive to replace the 5-year-old Seagate drive in my machine. It predictably died without warning one fine day.These drives are still selling for a premium, thanks to the flooding in Thailand. Despite the excessive price, it was worth it--quiet and slightly faster than the old Seagate. Most importantly, this above-average quality is backed by WD's good customer service if it goes belly-up during the two-year warranty period.Another thing: Amazon's "frustration-free packaging" works *excellently* with these drives. It's just a simple set of deformable plastic brackets, but they secure the drive SO much better than the bubble wrap that other retailers use with OEM drives. This SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the chance of the drive getting knocked around badly during shipping and suffering fatal damage. Many thanks for doing this right, Amazon. I will probably buy my next drive from you for this reason.

Bought this beacuse the one terabyte drive that I stole out of a external hard drive began to fail and would make my computer lock up for extended periods of time. I hoped that it was the hard drive, so I bought this to tell. This drive is reasonably fast for the price and is much, much quieter than the supposed "Green" 1 tb hard drive I had before. It was a little more than I hoped to pay but I wanted something reliable and reasonably fast and there is currently a hard drive shortage so all prices have been inflated. Boots Windows 7 reasonably fast and Minecraft has no problems loading chunks from the disk.

I've had this hard drive for two months in a RAID configuration in my Windows 7 computer. I works great and is very quiet. The delivery was quick and there was mininal packaging. This is exactly what I wanted.

I needed a bulk drive to finish a new build and the prices out there are crazy with the flood in Thailand. Regardless getting this drive for under 90 bucks was alright value considering the time frame. Most retailers barely even carry 7200 RPM drives and charge 90+ bucks for them. This was one of the best values out there at the time and while for the price I could have gotten a 1 TB drive a few months earlier I will live with it.The drive access speed is decent although this drive ends up being to lowest benchmark score in my Windows performance. I get a 5.9 out of it. It's very quiet despite some other reviewers. I don't hear much of anything when the drive is accessed. Overall I am very pleased and my new system is up and running with a WD which is my favorite manufacturer in HD's. This drive will serve me well until the price drop brings SSD's back to a more manageable level and then RAID 0!

I purchased this hard drive to add as a second drive to a new computer to store an "image" of the main "C Drive" in case of a hard drive failure. This drive has performed perfectly and resulted in a very economical way of backing up my entire system including the operating system and application software. I was pleased with the price and delivery time which was exactly as stated when ordered.

Recently got this item for my computer build and it works flawlessly. The packaging it came in was very straight forward without any hassles. I have Windows 7 installed on it and have had no problems on it whatsoever. The operating temperatures range from around 26-30 degrees Celsius. I definitely recommend this item as it is SATA 6gb/sec and is also 7200 rpm.Computer build:asrock 970 extreme3 mobophenom II x4 965gtx 550 tiram kingston hyperx 8gig 1600haf 912 case
