The hard drive in my Acer small form desktop died. I am sure if you have used computers for as long as I have, this has happened before. So I knew I needed to order a new hard drive and also order a new operating system as I had no backup for the cheap ass operating system that comes with these cheap computers.So I got this WD.Now I should say upfront, that putting the new HD in was a snap. All I had to do is insert the Windows 7 CD in the DVD drive and system was off and loading. Finished the complete load in like 20 minutes.So why the low rating you might ask? Well, when I pulled out the old HD....which was less than a year old, it was the exact same HD. Same make, same line, same size. WD makes crap so I am guessing this new one might die within a year.Don't buy WD. Buy some other name that is of better quality!And if you have to ask why isn't the old one covered by WD's warranty, its because it was sold to Acer in a lot that WD doesn't warranty. They leave that up to Acer who makes it so hard to get a replacement part that its just easier to buy new and badmouth them.So....lessons learned. 1. Never buy Acer again. They look nice but don't last. Lesson 2. Never buy WD! Lesson Three. Never buy a computer that was make on a factory line and shipped half way across the world. Lesson 4. Build your own. By quality and get performance and long lasting satisfaction!

It's revealing that in that persons' review that he says "When the drive was almost full (~3gb free), I was averaging around 30-40MBps". My god, I am amazed that so many people have bought into his method of testing, judgement call and approved of his review.Hard drives start slowing down when they reach about 60% fill of capacity. At this point you will not notice the reduction in speed.At about an 75% fill of capacity you may notice a reduction in speed. Many people will not.At about a 90% fill of capacity you WILL notice a reduction in speed. This is where HDs become slow pigs.Need an analogy? Load up your car until there is almost no room left. How's the performance now Bunky? YMMV (LOL!)

I was a bit skeptical about this product, because it is a "green" product that uses low power. I was concerned that the low power consumption would imply low data speed, but I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, it is a little slower than the Western Digital Caviar Black range of drives, but in my particular application it is still plenty fast. I only use it as an external hard drive for data backup and it will copy large blocks of data at speeds over 100MB/sec on my machine. I do not need more. And it is considerably less expensive than faster alternatives. Another good product from Western Digital. This company has never disappointed me.

This drive works well in my 2nd generation Drobo. In general I've had much better luck with Western Digital drives than Seagate. I plan to stay with Western Digital from now on because they last longer.

The packaging was suitable for this kind of product.the disk is fast enough for my purpose (archiving).Connecting it to the computer was tricky, though.Have in mind that drives above 2,2TB cannot be addressed as MBR but as GPT.This may cause issues with older bios and MBs (like mine). A workaround is to connect the disk via USB.Windows XP is able to work with GPT through additional software.Windows 7 does not have any issues about that.

I always need more data storage. I'm pretty compulsive with keeping data duplicates--or even triplicates for the really sensitive data--so I'm always filling up hard drives. It used to take me months to fill a terrabyte; now I can fill a 2TB drive in a few weeks. Cheap, low speed, cool-running drives are just what I need so I picked this up. I prefer the Samsung drives--I think they are more reliable--but I've never had any major issues with Western Digital drives. The initial format revealed no errors...and I hope the drive remains that way. I'll update if anything catastrophic happens.

The drive arrived on schedule, great packaging, i connected it to my pc and worked inmediately. The only con is that in the specs of the product it says 7200 RPM and intellipower, but i doubt it runs at that speed because in the rating of win7 it only marks 5,9 bringing down my otherwise 7.4 average rating.I assigned 100gb to boot drive, 500gb to installed games and the rest for backup, allowing me to clean up my old pc.I'm very happy with this buy and plannig on buying a ssd for boot drive.I'll updae if i found any problem.

I installed this hard drive on a new PC and loaded windows 7 64bit OS. Works smoothly. The boot setup was easy and the hard drive was recognized instantly. No issues with data accesses .Only thing that bothers is the noise levels when the system boots up or when hard drive is trying to access data. You can distinctly hear the clunky noise.

save yourself lots of trouble do a quick search of "Western Digital Caviar Green failure" on google and click the top 5 links (or any of them for that matter).There are major issues with these drives.I've bought 3 in the last year, one has now totally failed and another is going (getting I/O errors on reads sporadically).I definitely regret purchasing this drive.

Dead on arrival. Put in the computer, buzzed a lot, computer didn't see it as a drive. Put the old one back in, and returned this to Amazon. I know it can happen, but it seems to be happening a lot with hard drives lately. Had a couple that I ordered either DOA or last less than a week. Wonder what is happening with HD quality control? Cutting too many corners. Luckily, Amazon has a great return policy.

The 2 backup hard drives arrived promptly in new condition. I bought them as dual backup to install in a DroboS for backing up video files on my Mac. It's a great system.

bought the mybook world edition II which tout these. within 3 weeks one went out. instead of spending $1000 to replace these crappy drives with enterprise class drives, I chose to buy a third green drive and rotate it in my cluster. The issue i have is the very, VERY poor reliability of these drives. it surprises me not that WD has recently reduced the warranty on these drives from 3 years to 2 years. i think that should pretty well state all you need to know about these drives.

Has been working great for about five months now. On a Windows 7 computer, single partition, I use it primarily for backup and videos so there is a lot of deleting and copying of files. No problems so far.

Picking a hard drive these days is not easy. HD companies are bought and sold, quality goes up and down. WD is usually pretty good, I have a heavily used WD Caviar Black in my workstation, it is probably the best mechanical drive out of more than 7TB of hard drives, including Seagate and Samsung drives.These WD Green drives are too slow for a main boot drive in a computer, but they work great for storage or in entertainment centers, I purchased the drives to go in a NAS device.Let's see how long they last.....

Why is everyone complaining about the speed on these hard drives? They are meant to be for storage and not for installing your OS. I think the size is huge and the price is reasonable. I love this hard drive and I think people need to look at this hard drive from a different perspective rather than criticizing it for being slow. If you want speed, you should buy an SSD.

I ordered two of these about three months ago, and both are still working fine. I installed them into an HP with Sata-300 running Vista, and had no issues whatsoever.

I had this product for about 6 months now, and let me tell you, I have been using it HARD, I leave the PC on about 5 days a week, and I use it for gaming hard with it, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Witcher 2, etc, for 5+ hour sessions.I have it with an Intel i5-2500k overclocked to 4.2ghz, two Ati 6950 in crossfire, 8GB Ram, a Mushkin 120gb SSD, powered by a 750w PSU.It has been flawless so far, it came very well packed (resisted the shipping to Miami, Miami-Bogota, Bogota-Medellin). Recommended 100%.

The one I ordered was the 2TB one. I ran HD Tune on the drive immediately after I received this hard drive. Surprisingly, the drive has 9 percents damaged blocks. The worse thing was, whenever I tried to run the benchmark test, the "read error" window popped up. HD Tune was not able to run benchmark tests on this hard drive. This is the first time I have a bad experience with WD hard drive. I hope this is not common on other green drives. I suggest run a hard drive test before you put files on it. as days where coming by of losing hdd space i had to buy another hdd. i had problems with hard drives because their prices are extremely high, more like 80% more expensive. (flood in thailand crashed the hdd supply causes inflation in hard drive prices)thats why i gave this product 3 stars. good buy anyways.

I own several WD hard drives, including this 3 TB Green drive, and I am very pleased with them. From time to time, one of the drives has failed shortly after purchase, but always within the time frame for return to Amazon. Concerning the 3 TB drive, it was my latest purchase, and it has been up and running for about a week now. No issues yet. Smooth so far.

I needed two drives for a NAS server. 1 of the 2 original drives I purchased was DOA. After returned the DOA drive I got a second drive that lasted about 2 weeks before it started throwing I/O errors and the system notified me that the drive was failing and needed to be replaced. I am now on drive number 4 which is working...for now.Interestingly I purchased the NAS drive because I had an external drive fail on me after years of service. All hard drives fail eventually but WD is terrible. When you finally get the right drives I think you will be happy, however:1) BUY FROM A STORE YOU CAN RETURN TO..i.e AMAZON or FULFILLED BY AMAZON BECAUSE THESE FAIL (50% in my case 2/4)2) DO NOT BE SHY ABOUT RETURNING DRIVES AT THE FIRST SIGN OF ERRORS

Purchased a handfull of these drives to use as backups. With in 2 weeks, I had 2 of these drives crash on me. Both times, they lock up the computer and after a reboot, all the content was GONE! They show up on the desktop as brand new drive, empty as they day they arrived. Thank God they were backups.It should be noted, I use these drives for video editing and typically I will fill up 3TB in a week, so they work hard. It could be that they were over worked, but seeing I have worked with 100 plus drives in the same way, tells me there is something up with this particular 3TB model. The 2TB green has been flawless.

I have bought several of these over the years, and they always perform without issue (In servers and workstations). Keep having to add them to my collection to satisfy an ever growing library of movies, music, and pictures. Lower power and not as fast as the black series from Western Digital but perfect for backups and file storage!

Drive died in 3 months with very light home use. Amazon return policy only good for 30 days & WDs "limited" warranty is of little value. I guess I'll eat the $120 & start over. Not much choice is there?

Purchased this drive along with the DLink NAS (as its storage unit) - because Amazon recommended it.To date, I'm very happy with the drive's performance. I've had it for over a month now with no problems at all.I've backed up and restored a least 1.5T of data over that time - from both pc and mac systems, with no problems.Overall, its quick and quite and is not noticeable in any way - just like a drive should be.I can say that so far the drive is working flawlessly - and I recommend it.I'll come back and post any negatives if the drive gives me any problems in the future.

This is probably the 3rd or 4th Western Caviar green drive I have purchased (various capacities) for over a year's time. No failures on any of them and sometimes I leave them on overnight via my Thermaltake Docking station. All drives came well packaged. So to sum up, they arrive protected in good packaging, have not failed yet, and can be used on extended run times without crashing. So far that is.

I had purchased over 10 WD Digital, only a couple game problems but this??? Caught me completely off guard!!2 TB data lost, Usually you get a warning a sign that the drive is having issues, weird sounds, slow, etc etc but this????? the computer reset and PUFF!! "You need to format this drive"" only six month of use and now WD wont replace it because I live overseas and I need to send the damage HD, I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS DRIVE TO NOBODY!

I received 3 3 tb hard drive and 2 out of 3 were dead. I did a rma with western digital and they sent a quick turnaround once they received the shipment. I didn't do a return to amazon because they were temporary out of the hard disks. The replacement hard disks are working great with drobo.

it wass well packd and delverd well, no damge i am from saudi arabia and its hard to return the packege if ther is damge so i am hapy i bout 5X3TB WD for my synology dx510 ther real size of a 3TB HD is 2794.52 GB and for the 2TB 1863.02 GB, i did Raid 5 to all 3TB HDD and came with a 10.89 TB with one of them for protection this HardDisk is not the best HardDisk but its good for medum userse if you have a company and use servers 24/7 you suld go to the enterprise Hard Disk

I've been running this for a week or so in my home theater PC. I haven't pushed it hard (recording/watching the occasional tv show), but it seems to work fine, and I had no issues setting it up. I wouldn't recommend this drive for heavy usage, as it is not made for that purpose. I can't hear the drive at all. It arrived in perfect condition, in sufficient packaging. Others have noted issues with quality control with these drives, but so far, so good for me!

Worked great, out of the box. I have it in a docking station as an external HD, and it has worked fine since arrival. My 2nd WD HD and I have no complaints.

I bought this hard drive just in February, three months ago. Few days ago it reported many dead blocks when I checked it with Western Digital Disk tools. Then it just failed to the point that it is not even mounting anymore.

Reasonably quite. Seems to perform well. So far so good. When I bought it this was the least expensive 2TB 7200 RPM sata drive. I find it good value for the money.

I bought this to replace a broken 1.5 Tb disk. So far this seems to be fine. No issues. It is still as quiet as the old 1.5 TB disk no complaints. This went into a 4 bay disk array with 3 other 1.5 Tb drives.

I installed this in my puter. 1st no mounting screws, 2nd no instructions, 3 no cables to hook to boards. After running around town to aquire the necessary hardware to hooked it up. It ran great and is still going with out a problem.Gave 4 stars because no instruction, or mounting screws. The cables I found don't come with it. Shipping was fast and packaging was good.

I've been running this hard drive for about a month now as a secondary (back-up) drive and I have no complaints. Very quiet hard drive. Always have liked Western Digital's quality on their hard drives!
