This drive is solidly built, with a huge capacity (2.5 TB)! Western Digital has a reputation of quality, so I'm happy to be able to find an affordable high capacity WD drive. I paired mine with a McCalley USB drive enclosure Macally G-S350SU Hi-Speed eSata/USB2.0 External Storage Enclosure for 3.5inch SATA HDD and it works beautifully! Many enclosures say they don't work with this large a drive capacity, so I was a little leery, but there were no problems. Installing the drive in the enclosure was really easy. I just wish the drive had come with directions! I plugged the drive into my computer and it was not recognized. I did a search and found that the drive first had to be initialized and formatted. Hint: check here[...] for how to partition and format under Windows 7. TAKE NOTE: you MUST initialize this drive as GPT, not MBR, or you will not be able to use .5 TB of it! If you do use GPT you will not be able to use the drive on an XP machine. Once initialized and formatted (it doesn't take long) the drive now shows up with no problem. Pairing this "green" drive with the McCalley enclosure is ideal - the enclosure is also "green". It shuts down the drive when not in use to conserve power (and reduce heat), but the enclosure itself stays connected (so it never appears disconnected) and the drive powers back up when you need it. Great idea! The drive enclosure also comes with "one touch" backup software to make it easy to utilize this huge drive for backups.

these 3TB drives won't work on Mac unless you have a WD 3TB enclosure. other internal/external docks and SATA connections won't work. i was able to format these drives using SATA connections from several different brands but they only let me format this 3TB drive as either 2.2 TB or 800GB. #TB drives are a well documented issue with Macs.in other words, just buy a 2TB drive unless you have a WD 3TB ready enclosure.There's more info on the #TB problem here on the Western Digital website: [...]

Великолепно

I chose this hard drive for both its size (3TB) and because it was a bare drive that I use for data storage on a htpc. It stores music, movies, pictures, and is a data backup for my other computer that is linked to Dropbox and Google Drive. It runs very quiet and cool.

Good afternoon, I am writing to report that showed a defect, I assume that is overheating due to the temperatures get to meet whileoperation, although I seemed normal, buy a new system of ventilation for my computer, and yet no damage and start theoperating, and has a strange sound when you try to boot, I bought this product in combo with:-AMD FX 4100 4-Core Processor, 3.6 4 Socket AM3+ FD4100WMGUSBX -GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard -Corsair Vengeance 8 GB ( 2 x 4 GB ) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) 240-Pin DDR3 Memory Kit for Intel Core i3, i5, i7 and AMD Platforms SDRAM CMZ8GX3M2A1600These other products work perfectly and have been ensencidos for more than 72 continuous hours without showing abnormalities, I would like to send me aagain presenting my guarantee to the same address to which the order was made, I hope to answer processed instructions, thanks

I bought a hard drive and received a green 3T HDD 2T red. This is not the hard drive which I paid 137.68. This seems a robbery attempt and only return I get almost the same price. Attached pictures of what I got.

I purchased this product to replace several smaller drives with one larger. There was too much heat being generated with extra drives, not to mention the spread of data over multiple drives.The Green drive is quiet and cool, under 40C whereas the earlier drives were running sometimes over 50C. Also, now backup is simpler, which is more important since I now have one drive replacing three.So far, no problems. I did run the drive check and it comes up clean.I definitely recommend this product. I would give it 5 stars but I'll wait and see about reliability.

I used to swear by the Seagate brand, but Western Digital has won me over with their line of Green drives. These drives make great data disks to harbor your music and movie collection, where raw speed is not as important as lower power, lower heat, silence, and reliability. Yet despite the lower spindle speed, these drives are still relatively fast due to their high data density and large cache. I can't recommend it enough!

No problems with it. (don't know if that warrants 5 stars... but hey!!)Rather than investing in an SSD, I went with this 1tb drive for the main drive of a custom build.I'm happy.

will only buy WD drives..have had other drives fail so much.. (18 years in computers).I have 4 of these in a RAID 5 dedicated backup...all intel hardware... should keep working for many years.

I've used lots of Western Digital Hard Drives in the past and have usually had really good luck with them. When I have had to return them, they've always been easy to work with. I'll be using this one in a home Linux server in a RAID5 array.

This drive is great for storing all your large media files.I picked it over the Seagate Barracuda 7200 3 TB 7200RPM SATA 6 Gb/s NCQ 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive ST3000DM001 because it is a bit cheaper and the warranty is 2 years instead of 1 on the Seagate. 7200RPM vs "green" was not an issue for me on a media drive.

I bought this drive to serve as my primary data repository. It's cheap, has a large capacity, and I've had good experiences with WD drives in the past. I mostly buy their "Black" range because of higher speeds and reliability, but decided to go cheap this time to see how these perform.The drive definitely lags in performance behind the higher-end "black" drives. The difference is noticeable when opening large database files. Playback on large video files is fine, as these files need not be entirely read off the disc to start playing. I think that is what these drives should primarily be used for - storage of all the family photos and videos. I would recommend using it in a NAS or other media library where speed isn't much of an issue but you need a ton of space.Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I'll keep my old 500G data drive for speed, and move all the large media files to this drive for archival.

I have several of these mixed in with older versions of the drive, in a 10+ drive RAID5 configuration. The older versions are starting to have issues at the 3-yr point, but so far these newer models are working well. I hope they hold up as well or better at 3 yrs. At 90 bucks on Prime, they were hard to pass up. If they would get the 3TB models down to 110 or so, I would start loading up on them. They seem as reliable as the SG 5400rpm competition - no longer made.Good luck
